Is your Epiphone an Export Model or made and sold for the China Domestic Market?

Edwards Bros ( Seb, Sam and Josh) are Serious Musicians. Passionate about the Music Industry, whether it be playing, recording, research or Supplying Quality Guitar Pieces.

Its no secret most Guitar's are made in either Korea or China. China being the largest supplier.

Here we will detail the difference's between Genuine 2006 onward and Domestic China Epiphones.

Undoubtedly there are some excellent non-export models, circulating but others maybe questionable.

After this study you will know the difference!

The images shown on your right compare an Export Vintage Sunburst Les Paul Custom and a Domestic China Black LP Custom - its a fascinating study.

The particuar copy shown here is a high quality piece, still there are subtle differences that only a purist would appreciate.

GUITAR BODY - Binding

EXPORT (a) and DOMESTIC (b)

You will notice on the Export model they only have two Black Lines and the Domestic types have three. Genuine USA Gibson Les Paul Customs actually have three lines on the binding, we assume to distinguish certain Gibson Epiphone qualities.

EXPORT (c) and DOMESTIC (d)

The white binding on the Domestic guitar are thicker and nowhere, near as neat in comparison, to the exports.

GUITAR HEADSTOCK - Binding

EXPORT (e) and DOMESTIC (f)

The Binding on the headstock is noticeably thicker, more so than the binding on body.

PICK GUARDS

EXPORT (g) and DOMESTIC (h)

You will notice that there is a gap between the binding on on the export one, whilst the domestic goes all the way to the end of the guitar.

PICKUPS

EXPORT (i) and DOMESTIC (j)

The back of the export pickup has Epiphone stamped and an R (for the rear one) and F (for the front one. The domestic guitars are generally blank
