It is FREEZING in London and has been forever!!!! Sorry to whine, but I am tired of being cold to the bone. I have not blogged - I have tried to stay warm. I am planning the great "college tour road trip" for our oldest. We are off to the states on Saturday for 2 weeks. I am hoping 2 weeks of glorious sun and maybe just maybe a temperature above freezing.

Here is wishing you and yours a very happy Easter. I will be back after the break. Stick with me :)

Need Some Green

We are off to Dublin, Ireland this weekend to celebrate St. Patricks Day! We will be at the parade on Sunday, but before that we are touring in the Wicklow Mountains and Powerscourt Estate. Of course, no trip to Dublin would be complete without a trip to the Guinness factory.

I am off to add some green to my wardrobe today. Have you ever been to Dublin? Any travel tips to share?

It is 32 degrees and there are snow flurries today in London! I am dreaming of spring and really being drawn to all the mint green that is showing up in design. Let's take a look.....

Coffee Talk....

I had a great time in France shopping the antique markets. I came across an old french water tank I couldn't resist. I knew it would make a great table. I cleaned it up a bit and topped it with a piece of glass. And voila you have the perfect coffee table. How is that for recycling and repurposing?

It still has the pipe connection attached which definitely adds character. You can also see the cool pottery bowls I bought made from cooking molds. Thinking I might look for something to put inside the bottom since you can see into the tank through the glass.

After a week of skiing a friend and I headed out for 3 antique fairs in Provence for a few days. It is a beautiful region of France. Here are a few pictures.....

I found these 2 chairs....they will get some new "clothes" and have a whole new look. Can't wait for them to be delivered.

It is back to reality after a fun week in Chamonix Mont-Blanc. School was on half-term break, so we headed to France for a week of skiing & snowboarding. Here are a few pictures from our adventure.

Chamonix is a beautiful town in the French alps. This was our first ski vacation in Europe and it is totally different than skiing in North America, as you are above the tree line (easy to get off course!). We enjoyed fabulous French cuisine every night and some heavenly sweets. Stay tuned for pictures from my girls trip antiquing in Provence.....

Tea Time

When we moved to London I joined a local women's club. The club plans numerous activities and it provides a great way to meet others. One of the things that is offered every month is an afternoon tea outing. It is so much fun and we usually go to a fabulous spot in city for this English ritual. This week we went to The Dorchester. It is a gorgeous 5 star hotel located in the Mayfair area of London. The hotel is beyond beautiful and the tea was fantastic. I wouldn't have minded checking in for the evening.....but alas, duty called and I returned to real life.

Next month we are actually going to do a tour at the Victoria & Albert museum on the history of tea before we sit down to sip. If you ever visit England do make sure to take tea at least once! Cheers.

I took you on a house tour back in September soon after we had moved to London. I thought I would give you a little before and after today of our hard working narrow entry way. I shared some inspiration photos in this post. Here is the before picture

This is the entry we use everyday. It had to have space for coats, umbrellas, sports gear, dropping keys, etc. Here it is today.

I found a couple of great coat racks and an umbrella stand at one of the many antique markets.

The console we brought from Atlanta. It is a great catch all to drop keys and mail. It also stores gloves, hats and mittens. The gallery wall is of photos from over the years. The rug really warms up the space and the mirror is great for that last minute check before you head out the door.

Hampstead Heath

Saturday the sky was blue and the sun was shining in London. It was quite a change from the previous week of snow and cold. Mr. TMD and I took advantage of the weather and headed out for a hike through Hampstead Heath. Although the weather is a bit warmer there was still some slush and snow on the ground. The weather never stops the Londoners from taking advantage of this beautiful space they are always out walking, running and playing.

The heath is one of the highest points in London. It is a wonderful green space of over 700 acres in the city full of trails, parks and woodlands. It is a popular spot in warmer weather for picnics and swimming in the public ponds. Enjoy my Saturday views.

Sorry I have been missing. Mr. TMD's sister and her husband came to town so I have been playing tourist since the weekend. We had a blast doing many of the traditional London spots - Houses of Parliament, St. Paul's Cathedral, Tower of London, Churchill Cabinet War Rooms, National Portrait Gallery (saw the new portrait of Kate) ......and just exploring the city by walking everywhere! We spent time in our village, Hampstead including doing a traditional Sunday roast. They headed back to the states yesterday - so it is back to reality! Here are a few shots from their visit. (unfortunately you can always photograph inside some of the places we visited)

It is always fun to be a tourist in your own city! Enjoy your Thursday.

Holy Bat House.....

On our UK list of things to do and see is to visit "Wayne Manor", home of Batman. After doing a bit of research I found that Wayne Manor is really made up of two homes,

The one pictured above is Wollaton Hall. It is located just outside of London in Nottingham. This home is used for only the exterior shots.

Here it is during film

The interior of Wayne Manor is Osterley Park. It is located in London and is part of the National Trust. I included an exterior shot, although only the interior is used for the movie.

It took two beautiful homes to make up one - Wayne Manor - that is show biz for you! Looking forward to hopping in the batmobile and visiting both!

I found this goody at an antiques market in Lincolnshire, UK. I am absolutely smitten

It is a beautiful Jung-Koch-Quentell botanical chart. It was printed in Dusseldorf, Germany by Lehrmittelveriag Hagemann. They were popular in the 1960's. I loved the wooden dowel rods - no need for framing. I think the black background really makes the artwork stand out. This was the only one the vendor had in black - would have loved have another one to hang with it - a reason to go back to the market next month :)
