A Letter to My Younger Self

In response to the launch of her new blog, http://askapricot.com/, apricot has a contest. To enter I am answering her question with the following entry. The question is to write a letter to your younger self giving advice about troubles you would have in the future.

Since I am 54 years old, I have a lot of troubles I have survived, so I have chosen to write this letter to myself on the day I graduated from high school.

Dear Younger Self,

Life is going to bring so many surprises your way. It seems today that you have it all figured out. You know what career you are going to pursue(accounting), what guy you want to marry and how many kids you want to have (2 or maybe 3 at the most). You have it all planned out! Well, so much for the planning. You can never guess what will come your way. Career changes, marriage, divorce and marriage happens again. A total of 6 children and a very busy career. You never knew you could juggle it all! Before you know it they are grown and God has strengthened you every step along the way. You have survived a difficult divorce, graduate school while pregnant, kids growing up and all of their problems along the way. You have always had God and your family to turn to, so maybe you should start listening to them now. Don't ever think you can't do something, you can do anything! Don't ever panic, you are not alone! Don't ever think you know what is going to happen next, you don't! Enjoy your life and know that I will be here for you down the road. Remember to enjoy the path as well as the destination, for the path is filled with wonder.

Lady says it is time to get outside and start walking. Spring is almost here and we are tired of being stuck in the house all winter. It is amazing how every year we turn into couch potatoes again (well at least I do). And, every year we get one last blast of cold and snow like we did last weekend. We had about 5" of snow on Saturday and today it is 68 degrees. Isn't March amazing!

Well, I won't complain about 68 degrees, so it is time to get outside and get moving. Daylight savings time is coming this Saturday and the evenings will be even nicer.

I think Lady needs a new collar and leash for spring, so I picked out this Pastel Boho Collar and Leash. I think this is perfect for getting us in the mood for this wonderful weather. Does anyone else have Cabin Fever? What are you going to do to celebrate spring?

Back to Life

Well, obviously I haven't posted for a while and now it's time to get back to my life.. The older I get, the more the holidays take out of me. I did survive them, and now I finally feel like I am getting back to normal. I have all of the Christmas decorations put away and am concentrating on finding new and wonderful ways to enjoy life. I felt like I needed a mini-makeover in my house when I put everything away, but budgets after the holidays keep many of us from purchasing a lot of new furnishings, so I decided to update my accessories. I am really trying to focus on simplifying for the New Year, in more ways than one. I am taking that concept to my decorating. I want to use fewer, but more interesting accents throughout.

Today is the big turkey day where everything falls into place (we hope) for a wonderful family gathering. We put so much work into the preparation of this meal, with shopping and decorating and cooking for days ahead. Christmas is coming and we have so many choices when we start shopping for our children and grandchildren. There are all of those toys with multiple little pieces. There are toys with batteries to replace and then there are those old fashioned ride on toys that we loved when we were little ourselves. I can remember the rocking horse that I got for Christmas when I was three years old. It was the source of great fun and imaginary rides across the prairie. I love the idea of not having toys with hundreds of little pieces and batteries to replace on a weekly basis. Or worse yet, the toys just get tossed in the closet and forgotten. We are so excited to be able to offer Kalencom Diaper Bags on both Stylish Home and Gift and Stylish Tots. They have so many amazing prints and furs, all protected by a laminated vinyl covering. It could be very difficult to decide on which one is your favorite, but I have narrowed it down for my choice. Our new doll furniture from Three Little Ziglets reminds me so much of when I was a little girl, playing with my dolls. I had a cradle and a high chair very similar to these. We did it! Vegas and back in under 36 hours! Talk about speed shopping, we covered a lot of territory in very little time.
