I was away and I did not do any work on my blog for a while, but now I`m back to help you guys!

In this "Coming back" tutorial I`m going to show you how to clean your vocal, and make it sound bright and clear.

Let`s get started :

REMOVE NOISE STEP 3

Run Cool Edit Pro, insert the instrumental, arm the track to record hit the red button and record you vocals
Open you vocal track into editing mode (2x click on the track)
If you have any noise on your mic you should remove it by marking the empty space then right click and left click on silence (check out the screenshot)
The next step is to add some effects to your vocal track, you can do it by marking the whole track and go to effects panel and choose dynamic processing. Find the Classic Softknee and apply it.
Next step is to add some reverb (delay) effect to your vocal. You can do it by clicking the effect panel again and select Delay effect. Then select Natural Reverb or Tight and Close, apply it
Now it`s time to level your vocal. You can do it by using Hard Limiting.
Next thing you should do is to remove any noise from your vocal . You can do it by using Noise reduction
The final step you want to do is mixing volumes of instrumental and vocal track. This step you must do by yourself, because I don`t know how loud is your instrumental. Just mess a lil bit with the volumes to get it perfect.

The graphic user interface of the PSP MasterQ is designed to be both elegant and functional,

offering a convenient and aesthetically pleasing layout which gives you easy access to all of its functions.

Basic Operation

To activate the buttons, simply click them. They will glow yellow to indicate that they are active. To avoid accidental resets, the Reset button requires double-clicking. The Latency numbers may also be clicked to force dynamic latency compensation. To adjust the knobs, click on the knob and rotate your mouse clockwise or counterclockwise. The numeric display of the current value below the knob you are adjusting will change to reflect your mouse position. All knobs react to your mouse movement speed. The faster the mouse speed, the faster the knob’s value changes. If you press the SHIFT key pressed before you click on a knob, for as long as you hold the key down the knob will be in Fine Movement Mode, which allows you to make more minute value adjustments. The knob value display below each knob can be clicked to reveal a text box. You can directly type a desired numerical value into this box. Clicking on the name of currently chosen LIM-SAT algorithm opens a popup with a list of available LIM-SAT algorithms to choose from. Note that the EQ graph is not only just a display—you can manipulate the EQ curves by clicking active points on the graph itself.

Under the LATENCY header at the bottom of the PSP MasterQ is displayed the current internal latency of the plug-in in samples and milliseconds. Double-clicking this button will instantly reset the Range knob and all of the filters’ settings to their default values. This is particularly useful if you find yourself wanting to zero out all your settings and start over.

This knob sets a cut-off or center frequency of individual filter. The range of each filter’s FREQ knob depends on the chosen filter. Each FREQ knob has a different default setting based on its range.

The “Q factor” knob sets the width for a filter. The lower the Q, the wider the range of filter (which results in a softer slope to the EQ curve). Higher Q values result in the filter affecting a narrow frequency range (which looks more like a notch or resonance than a curve on the EQ graph) The default value for each filter was set to match the purpose for that given filter (see Operations for details).

GAIN

This knob sets the gain/attenuation for a filter. Its range is –24 dB to +24dB with increased

resolution closer to 0dB. Note that the high and low cut filters do not have GAIN knobs.

RANGE

Range

The RANGE knob acts as sort of a boost or cut for the entire EQ. It sets the multiplier assigned to all Gain controls of the individual filters. It allows you to increase, lessen or even invert amplitude characteristics of all filters except low cut and high cut.

You can dial in settings from –150% to 150% giving you an extra 50% of filters’ boost or

attenuation. Certain key numeric values are colored to make them stand out: 100% is indicated by green numbers, -100% is indicated by blue numbers, and 0% is indicated by red numbers. The default value is 100%, which does not alter the gain settings of the filters at all.

At the bottom right of the interface, the OUTPUT knob sets the output signal level of the EQ before it enters the limiting-saturation section.

OPERATIONS

Filter Frequencies

The frequency range of each filter has been specifically tailored to be as useful and dynamic as possible for its given range. You’ll notice that most of the filters in the PSP MasterQ actually have a far wider range than most other EQ plug-ins give their filters. This is to give you the maximum flexibility in adjusting each filter. The frequency ranges and default values for each filter, from left to right across the PSP MasterQ interface, is as follows:

Low Cut Filter: 10 Hz — 20 kHz 10Hz by default
Low Shelving Filter: 20 Hz — 2 kHz 100Hz by default
Low Parametric Filter: 16 Hz — 16 kHz 250Hz by default
Mid Parametric Filter: 20 Hz — 20 kHz 1kHz by default
High Parametric Filter: 24 Hz — 24 kHz 4kHz by default
High Shelving Filter: 300 Hz — 30 kHz 10kHz by default
High Cut Filter: 10 Hz — 30 kHz 30kHz by default

Adjusting the Q

While there are no hard and fast rules as to how to set the Q factor for each filter, there are a few general rules that can help you get the most out of the PSP MasterQ. The Low shelf and high shelf Q factors within the range of 0.35 to 0.71 result in a smooth shelf curve. Values as low as 0.35 give the smoothest possible curve while values greater then 0.71 add a peak above and while below the set frequency. The Low cut and high cut Q factors in the range of 0.35 to 0.71 result in a typical low cut and high cut curve without any resonance gain. A value of 0.71 value creates a curve of 12dB/oct or 24db/oct depending on if you have engaged 24db/oct switch. Lower values decrease the steepness of the curve down to 6dB/oct (for 12dB/oct filter's mode). Values greater then 0.71 raise the resonance. The Q ranges and default values for each filter, from left to right across the PSP MasterQ interface, are as follows:

Low Cut Filter: 0.35 — 1.41 0.71 by default

Low Shelving Filter: 0.35 — 1.41 0.5 by default
Low Parametric Filter: 0.05 — 20 0.41 by default
Mid Parametric Filter: 0.05 — 20 0.26 by default
High Parametric Filter: 0.05 — 20 0.41 by default
High Shelving Filter: 0.35 — 1.41 0.5 by default
High Cut Filter: 0.35 —1.41 0.71 by default

As Sakis stated in the Forward, when you are dealing with EQ, you need to tailor the plug-in to your specific needs; rarely will anyone’s else’s settings be exactly what you need. But the PSP MasterQ includes a number of settings that should offer you a good place to start your own explorations.

You can access these presets from the PSP Audioware standard PRESET bar at the bottom of the plug-in interface. Here you can select from among the factory presets, and load and save individual, as well as banks of presets. There are three sections to this bar, the PRESET section, the Preset window, and the BANK section.

· Ping-Pong: Sets the amount of the ping-pong effect. There is no ping-pong delay present in

the C(enter) position. Moving the control to the left from C sets the plug-in's left delay

shorter then the right one. Moving the control to the right from C sets the right delay shorter

then the left one. For a standard, balanced ping-pong effect set this control to 3R or 3L.

· Ducker LED: Indicates the state of the ducker. Green indicates the ducker is in the opened or

opening state red indicates the ducker is closed or closing. If the ducker is disengaged the

· Ducker In/Out: Use this button to engage (In) or disengage the ducker.

· Ducker Threshold: This knob controls the threshold of the ducker.

· Ducker Range: Sets the amount of attenuation when the signal on the input is above the

threshold.

· Ducker Open: Controls how long it takes the ducker to open when the input signal goes

below the threshold.

· Ducker Close: Controls how long it takes the ducker to close when the input signal goes

above threshold.

to beats per minute. In both settings the reference is 15”

speed and a quarter note on sliders.

· man/snc switch: Sets the source of time and tempo. When

set to the man (manual) mode the time base or a tempo can

be set manually. In snc mode the time base or tempo is

synchronized to the host tempo. In either setting the

reference is 15'”speed and a quarter note on sliders.

· Time/Tempo display: Sets the overall delay (echo) time

or tempo referenced to 15” speed and a quarter note. Click

on a selected digit and drag the cursor up or down to

change values of individual digits.

· Note Sliders: Use sliders to set the musical note value

used for the delay. The reference note is a quarter note,

which also refers to the denominator when synchronized to

the host’s tempo. You can glide to shorter or longer values

during silence or when there is signal present as a way to

mimic –unstable tape like effects.

· Echo LEDs: These LEDs blink green when a wet signal on the corresponding echo channel occurs. They will blink red when a tape is noticeably saturated.

· Tap Tempo/PSP Echo: Click on the Echo label below the words “tap tempo” to tap out the tempo you wish for PSP Echo.

· Panic: Click and hold for at least 0.5s on the Echo label to reset all delays' signals

· FB-Pan:

Sets the feed back panorama for this channel’s echo effect. This allows for various cross-feedback and echonarrowing effects.

· FeedBack: Controls the amount of feedback of this channel.

· FILTERS (high pass): Use this to set the high pass filter for the processed signal. The range is 20Hz to 2kHz. A setting of 20Hz bypasses the filter.

· FILTERS (low pass): Use this to set the low pass filter for the processed signal. The range is 200Hz to 20kHz. A Setting of 20kHz bypasses the filter.

· FILTERS (combined): Use this combined filter control to change the cut-off frequency for both filters by a horizontal mouse move or to change the frequency distance for both filters by a vertical mouse move.

· Drive: Sets the amount of tape-like saturation on the delayed signal. Experiment with various drive and filter settings to mimic analog tape echo effects.

· Level: Controls the gain of the echo effect’s output.

· Link switch: Turns channel linking on or off. You can switch the link on and off during

setting up PSP Echo without losing independent settings of channels, however if you want to

retain your independent settings please remember to turn it to the Off position before saving

the project or closing your audio application. When a project is stored and PSP Echo is in

Linked mode all independent settings of channels will be lost.

· Dry Spread: Controls the stereo spread of a dry signal. Values to the left of M(iddle) reverse the stereophony, settings close to M makes the signal narrow. Setting it to S+ provides anormal stereo dry signal on the output.

· Dry Balance: Sets the balance between dry left and right channels.

· Dry Level: Sets the dry (unprocessed) signal gain to the output.

· Wet Level: Sets the wet (processed) signal gain to the output.

Wet Balance: Sets the balance between wet left and right channels.

Wet Spread: Controls the stereo spread of the wet signal. Values to the left of Middle reverse the stereophony, settings close to M makes the signal narrower. Set it to S+ for a normal stereo wet signal on the output.

· In-Bypass switch: This switch engages or disengages entire Echo effect.

Cool Edit Pro 2012 Mixing Full Tutorial

Hello everyone!

Today I will share with you the new 2012 Cool Edit Pro mixing tutorial.

First thing you must do is to record your vocal (verse). Open that recorded verse in Edit Mode.

First you must to eliminate all unwanted sound (noise) from your vocal.

Mark first few seconds of the verse (before your vocal) and click effect and find Noise Reduction. Click on Capture Profile then OK. After that mark whole verse (CTRL + A) and go Noise Reduction again and press OK. This process should eliminate any noise from your vocal.

Next effect you need to use is Dynamic Processing. Go to effects and find Dynamic Processing. Now the new window will pop-up and you will get several presents.

Choose Very Fast Attack if your verse is fast or choose Classic Soft Knee if your verse is normal speed or slow. Choose what you want and press OK.

Next effect you need to use is Graphic Equalizer. Go to effects find Graphic Equalizer click 2x on it and choose Spit Clear and press OK.

Next one is FFT Filter. Go to effects then click on filters and click twice on FFT filter. If you have a low quality equipment choose Kill Subharmonic or Kill Mic rumble, press OK.
We will use FFT Filter again so go to FFT filter and choose Mastering Heavy And Wide, click OK.

Next thing we have to do is to bring vocals at the same level. To do this go to effects and find Hard Limiting. This will prevent all peeks and puffs.

That's about is, all you have to do is to set a volume for your vocal and beat. Enjoy
