I really liked this dark book, complete with its twists, secrets, and final showdown with Lilith. All of it was excellent.

Isobel really proved, once and for all, that she was one tough lady. She would find a way into the dream world, battle its inhabitants, and challenge its leader, all to save someone she loved (and, really, the entire world as well). I already liked her character and this book was just further reason to think she was a total badass.

I'm really glad that we got to see more of Varen in this book. What most annoyed me about the second book was that one of the main characters was barely there and I'm happy that it wasn't a problem in this book. I can't give too much away about what happened to him but I will say that I was relieved to see him fighting his fate and trusting Isobel. Needless to say, I still adored him.

The romance played a larger role in this book than the previous, though it still wasn't too heavy. Ultimately, the story was about defeating Lilith but that couldn't happen without Isobel and Varen's bond and the possibility of it transcending Lilith's hold on Varen. I love Isobel and Varen as a couple but did the get a happy ending? My lips are sealed :)

The plot was wonderful, fast paced and thrilling enough to keep me hooked. There were plenty of twists, a few secrets, and tons of that delightfully creepy darkness that made me like the previous books so much. I really liked the story and I loved the conclusion to the Nevermore tale.

Oblivion was a darkly brilliant, absolutely fantastic ending so a great series. Delightfully twisted, thrilling, and just wonderful in general, this book definitely won't disappoint fans of the series. YA lovers, this book, and, really, the whole series, is definitely worth the read.

*I received a complimentary copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review

Sayyedhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06302635928183963955noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6470846385711372276.post-27998704669853970632015-07-08T05:00:00.000-04:002015-07-08T05:00:03.941-04:00The Highlander Takes a Bride by @LynsaySands Review @avonbooks

Release date: July 28, 2015
Publisher: Avon Books
Genre: Historical (Highlander) Romance

A bold, seductive laird meets his passionate match in a scintillating Highland romance from New York Timesbestselling author Lynsay Sands...

Sword fighting, swearing, and riding astride come naturally to Saidh Buchanan. With sweet romance and a surprising betrayal, this book was great and I really liked it.

Saidh was a fantastic heroine. She could hold her own for sure, with her fearlessness and her badass fighting ability. She could be reckless at times but she realized that and learned from her mistakes. I thought she was great.

Greer was also wonderful. He was very sweet and loved Saidh exactly as she was. He was protective of those under his care and took that responsibility seriously. I really liked him as well.

The romance was both sweet and spicy. Saidh and Greer were a perfect match. They were infatuated with each other from the start and it didn't take long for those feelings to deepen. And they definitely had enough chemistry to turn the heat way up. I thought they were great together.

The plot was mostly well paced abut there were some parts that slowed down. While the story never really dragged, it did have slower parts. However, I still really liked the story. It was romantic and included a betrayal that really took me by surprise. And the ending was lovely.

The Highlander Takes a Bride was a delightful historical romance and I really liked it. Small paintings and miniatures encompassing generations of Tollivers covered the walls and surfaces. In the Queen Anne style, the furniture was old, but comfortable.

Long windows gave a view over the rose garden and the marble fountain in its center. The curtains had recently been changed from the velvet used during the colder seasons to a cerulean blue watered silk trimmed with gold braid. Even though they were experiencing one of their few warm days this spring, a log spat and popped in the fireplace. In fact, the only disturbing part of the normally tranquil atmosphere was the conversation.

Doing her best to keep her jaw from dropping in shock, Mary stared at her grandmother. The older woman’s thick silver hair was face held few lines. Her gaze seemed as sharp as ever. Generally she was the picture of health, except for this recent burst of incipient insanity, for that was all it could be.

Mary opened her mouth, then closed it again. Several moments passed in silence as she struggled to make sense of what she thought she’d heard. After rejecting retorts such as, Grandmamma, are you feeling quite well? Or, are you sure you wouldn’t like a nice room in Bedlam? And finally unable to come up with another way to ask her question, she simply voiced the nicest thought in her mind. “Surely I have not understood you properly. You want me to do what?”

“Well, I think it’s a wonderful idea.”

Mary shifted her gaze to her aunt. Perhaps madness had always run in the family and it had been kept a secret so as not to ruin them socially. After all, who would deliberately marry into a family where lunacy was rampant?

“He has a face like a fish.” Aunt Eunice opened her eyes wide and moved her lips in a fair imitation of a fish.

“Hake.” Grandmamma nodded decisively. “It’s the way his eyes protrude.”

Mary closed her eyes, repressing a shudder. “I agree, but surely there must be less drastic measures I can take.”

Grandmamma leaned forward and pounded her silver-headed cane on the floor. “He may look like a fool, my girl, but he’s canny, and, if what Cook told me is true”—Mary should have expected that— “which I have no doubt it is, he almost caught you a few days ago.”

“Yes, well.” Not the cleverest of replies. Surely, she could think of something more to say. “I got away from him,” she ended lamely.

“This time.” Grandmamma’s lips thinned.

“And every other time previously.” Mary let out a frustrated huff. Unfortunately, her grandmother did have a point. It was becoming more and more difficult to evade her cousin. “Did Barham receive an answer to his last letter to Uncle Hector?”

After a few moments, during which Grandmamma turned so red it appeared as if she would have apoplexy, Aunt Eunice replied, “Yes. But it won’t serve. Barham said Hector continues to insist your father promised you would marry Gawain, and he will not release your funds until either the marriage takes place—”

“In which case that spendthrift, Gawain,” Mary almost growled, the anger in her voice surprising her, “would control everything.”

“Or you turn five and twenty.”

Her aunt’s voice interrupted her silent railing. “I’m sorry. What did you say?”

“When the trust ends,” Eunice replied patiently.

“Unless you plan to spend the next two years inside the house,” Grandmamma said, emphasizing her speech with another loud thump of her cane, “you will do as your aunt and I advise.”

Mary eyed the silver headed stick. What would her grandmother do if she hid it? Still, what they were suggesting was complete insanity. “But I—”

“He’s found you everywhere we’ve tried to hide you, my dear.”

Eunice stared at Mary, a compassionate look on her face. “Drastic times call for drastic measures.”

Mary slowly shook her head. “I don’t think I could pretend to be someone else for that long a time.”

“But you won’t have to pretend.” Her aunt beamed. “That is the brilliance of the plan! You can be yourself . . . with a slight change in your last name for the time being.”

“We’ve been very careful,” her grandmother said as calmly as if she were choosing a dinner menu, “to select a remote area where there are no important families.”

There was something very wrong about all of this. “May I ask who the owner is?”

Her grandmother waved her hand as if dismissing her question. “The less you know for time being, the safer you’ll be if Gawain comes sniffing around.”

Grandmamma tapped her cane for at least the fourth time. Mary’s fingers itched to grab the thing away and throw it in the fireplace. “It’s decided. We’ll leave early tomorrow morning.”

________________________________________________________________

Giveaway:

Up for grabs are copies of A Kiss for Lady Mary.

Good luck!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

About the Author:

Ella Quinn lived all over the United States, the Pacific, Canada, England and Europe before finally discovering the Caribbean. She approved of Charity’s choice, a scenic spot near the river. At a distant boom, birds flew from the trees. “Another volley of gunshot,” Faith said to her younger sister. “The Brandreths’ guests must be enjoying a successful day’s shooting.”

“Mm.” Charity stood her easel on a flat piece of ground near the riverbank. “I’ll work here. The light is perfect.” She picked up her brush and palette. Taller than her sisters, Charity bent over her canvas and flicked back a fair lock, closer in color to their mother’s, a shade darker than Faith’s. “Are you looking forward to their ball?” Charity’s voice held little disappointment at still being too young to attend.

“Yes. Seeing Honor and Edward, especially.” Faith angled her lacy yellow parasol to block the sun, which was still surprisingly hot, and glanced at her sister with a sigh. Charity’s straw hat swung carelessly by its blue-striped ribbons. “Mama will have a fit if you get freckles on your nose like Mercy.”

“Mercy is devising a lotion to fade them,” Charity murmured. “It contains something called deliquated oil of tar.”

“I wouldn’t let that anywhere near my face, and neither should you,” Faith said.

“I like her perfume, though,” Charity said. “Cinnamon and cloves I think. She’s really quite inventive.”

“She is, but I prefer Attar of Roses,” Faith said.

“Mm?” Charity murmured, now sunk in contemplation of her canvas.

Faith turned a page of the Minerva Press novel her elder sister, Honor, had smuggled into the house for her to read. Father had banned them, saying they filled a woman’s head with ridiculous notions. The story proved to be enjoyable, but Faith felt guilty every time she opened the book.

“I think I’ll paint that big oak tree over the river. I like the way the sun dapples the leaves.” Charity dabbed at her palette with a paintbrush, mixing paint.

The river bordered Brandreth Park, now linked with Highland Manor through Honor’s marriage to Edward. The eldest, Lord Chaloner, was Marquess of Brandreth, their father having died some years ago.

Faith closed the book, her attention caught by a fragile yellow butterfly alighting on the tree trunk beside her. Her recent conversation with her father made her too unsettled to read. It was true; her Season had been a success of sorts. A whirlwind of soirees, balls, card parties, musical evenings, and routes. But choosing a husband was like wandering in a hedge maze. One way might look promising, but then it led to a dead-end.

She sorely missed Honor’s wise counsel. As Honor and Edward had a farm in Surrey, the family didn’t see much of them. But they were coming tomorrow for the Brandreths’ hunt ball. Honor was so practical she was sure to help Faith order her scrambled thoughts. Faith glanced at Charity, painting furiously, lost in her art. At sixteen, Charity was too young to discuss the important matters one faced in the grown-up world.

A gentle breeze carried the smell of pine and swayed the willow fronds dipping gracefully into the water. Another barrage of shots sent a flurry of birds into the sky. On the far bank, a dog barked.

“Pheasant for dinner tonight,” Charity said. “Chaloner has promised to send some.”

Faith sat up as a hound exploded from the bushes on the opposite bank, followed closely by a tall, dark-haired man. He stopped and raised his hand to shade his eyes.

“Good afternoon.”

Charity left her easel and walked to the river’s edge. “Good afternoon,” she called back.

Faith clambered to her feet, her heart racing, as he removed his hat and bowed, revealing hair midnight black and silky straight. Lord Vaughn, a younger and more dazzling version of her brother-in-law, Edward. She hadn’t seen him since, at sixteen, she’d watched him in the Brandreth wood bagging birds for the hunt ball dinner. That had been two years ago, and she was too young to attend. She had climbed a tree for a better view until Honor had come and dragged her home. Her father had made no secret of his disapproval of Vaughn, who he saw as the most troublesome of the Brandreth men. He’d expressed relief when he’d gone to live with his sister, Sibella, and her husband in York to manage the Marquess of Strathairn’s horse stud.

But here Vaughn was, standing legs slightly apart, shotgun over his shoulder, chatting to Charity across the water, and Faith, normally never lost for a word, mute as a Royal swan.

“You must remember my sister Faith?” Charity was asking him.

“My lord.” Faith stepped forward and dropped into a mindless curtsey.

A rich chuckle came across the water. “Don’t drop your parasol into the water, Lady Faith.”

Vaughn looked different somehow, broader in the shoulders. He had been absent from all of the social events spent in the Brandreths’ company since Honor and Edward had married. Thoughts flew through her mind. Was he engaged? She hadn’t heard of it, and anyway, what did it matter?

Charity stepped closer and gave her a nudge with her arm. “Say something,” she hissed.

Faith cleared her throat. “Has your shoot been a successful one, my lord?”

“Feeble,” Charity whispered.

Vaughn put a hand to his ear. “Your soft voice carries away on the wind, Lady Faith.”

She raised her voice. “Do you intend to stay long in Tunbridge Wells?”

He frowned. “I’m not sure of my plans.” He shook his head. “Difficult to carry on a conversation while shouting.” He turned away.

Faith firmed her lips, annoyed with herself; she’d lost an opportunity to make a good impression. But Vaughn wasn’t done with them; he’d put down his gun and walked farther down the bank. Then he backed up and took a flying leap over a narrow part of the river, alighting on a rock mid-stream. He regained his balance and jumped again, landing a few yards downstream from them. Vaughn dusted his leather breeches and strolled over to them. He swept off his hat and bowed.

“Ladies.”

Up close, he was even more devastating. There was a new maturity in his face, Faith decided with a swallow.

_________________________________________________________________

Giveaway:

Up for grabs is a copy of Taming a Gentleman Spy.

Good luck!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

About the Author:

Maggi Andersen lives in the countryside outside Sydney, Australia, with her lawyer husband. It upped the stakes, revealed many more secrets, and completed the series with a great ending. I really liked it and I thought it was a top-notch read.

Miki was at the top of her game in this book. Even with the mix of trouble in the Game and tragedy in the real world, she kept it together as best she could and still managed to kick ass. As in the previous books, I think she's awesome.

Jackson was just as badass as Miki was. He was learning to act as a team rather than take everything on by himself, though still as determined to protect everyone that he possibly could. He was also so sweet in the moments where it was just him and Miki and I still thought he was a totally swoon-worthy, absolutely adorable character.

The romance was great. I've always though Miki and Jackson were great together but this book really showed how much stronger they were as a team. And their romance added a lightheartedness to all the doom and gloom going on, which made the book even better.

The plot was fast paced and had me hooked right from the start. There were tons of thrills and secrets along the way, along with a game-changing secret that shed a lot of light on what was happening. Less post have been going up and less of those have been reviews. Why? I'm simply too busy to be able to focus on reviewing and it's only gotten worse now that I'm beginning the process of moving.

So, I will be leaving Imagine a World. While it makes me sad to leave the blog that I've been on for three years, I've thought a lot about it and came to the conclusion that I can't devote as much time as would be needed to keep running Imagine a World. And that time would be better served getting the copious amount of work I've been getting done. I'll be posting a few more things for tours that I have already scheduled and I'll be hanging around the reviewing world but I'll be on the sidelines instead.

As a side note, should anyone like to take over running Imagine a World, feel free to contact me at farrahsayyed@gmail.com. I'm very fond of this blog and I would love to see it continue to run even after I leave it. It was a lovely read and I absolutely loved it.

Sarah was a wonderful heroine. She had made a single indiscretion years ago and paid for it ever since. Not only did she have to deal with her own regret and guilt over it, she had to shoulder all the disappointment and cruelty her unsympathetic parents could muster. However, all of that didn't make her bitter. Instead it humbled her to the point that she thought very little of herself. But, even though she didn't see it, she was a very kind, friendly, and likable person. She was clearly strong to live with all the shame piled on her and she only became stronger when she decided it was time to live for her own happiness.I thought she was fantastic.

Christopher was also great. He started out the book with remaining a bachelor being his goal but he changed his tune real quick when he met Sarah. For the most part, he was very sweet, kind, and all around adorable. He did have a moment where his preconceived notions threatened to ruin everything but he, thankfully, got over that quickly so it wasn't a problem. I really liked him as well.

The romance was so sweet. It was clear from the start that Sarah and Christopher were perfect together and it didn't take long for them to realize it either. But, of course, things weren't going to be that easy with a secret between them. I thought they were a lovely couple.

The plot moved quickly and had me hooked all the way through. The story was engaging, entertaining, and entirely enjoyable from start to finish. And the ending was perfect.

Lady Sarah's Sinful Desires was a truly excellent historical romance that I absolutely loved. Enjoyable, romantic, and just an overall lovely read, this book was fantastic. Romance lovers, you won't want to miss this book.

*I received a complimentary copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review

_____________________________________________________________

Excerpt:

Offering a curt nod, her stepmother said nothing further as she turned her back on Sarah and followed her husband into their bedroom, closing the door behind her and leaving Sarah alone in the corridor. She took a breath, trying to relax and ignore the way her insides shuddered in response to her stepmother’s resentment. “Have you ever seen anything so beautiful?” she heard Alice remark.

Entering her room, Sarah had to confess that she certainly had not, for as it turned out, they were to share an entire suite of rooms with a comfortable sit- ting area in the center.

“Never,” Juliet replied, echoing Sarah’s thoughts. Ignoring her sisters, Sarah walked across to the window and peered out at the vast lawns, the intricate flower gardens, the maze in the distance and the massive lake upon which, if her eyes did not deceive her, was a sailing ship—a frigate, to be exact. No doubt Thorncliff surpassed every ancestral home she’d ever visited. Nothing compared. Perhaps that was the point of the Thorncliff estate.

Sarah resisted the urge to explore Thorncliff for an hour—longer than she’d ever thought possible. Then, with the intention of taking a look around, she left her slumbering sisters to Hester’s watchful eyes.

After descending the stairs, she wandered down a corridor and soon discovered that Thorncliff was filled with guests and servants to the point of over- flowing. Her first impression upon visiting a salon wrapped in Chinese décor, where some ladies were having tea, was that she’d probably be unlikely to discover a private space she could claim as her own. This suspicion grew when, after passing a series of other rooms, she found each one to be occupied by somebody else. Though she did recognize a few faces and made sure to offer polite greetings, she had no desire to engage in conversation with anyone, fearing it would only result in unpleasant prying.

Eventually, Sarah decided to head out into the garden in search of a secluded corner where she and Snowball would be able to enjoy each other’s company. The poor little creature had spent the better part of the day confined to her reticule and was surely growing restless. But, before arriving at the French doors that would take her outside, Sarah came upon another door that piqued her interest. It was made almost entirely of glass, and beyond it, she could see nothing but greenery—trees, bushes and ferns mostly, all planted on either side of a tiled path that wound its way between them before disappearing from view.

Reaching out, Sarah pressed down on the handle until the door swung open. A humid heat blending with the smell of wet soil greeted her, and she stepped quickly inside, closing the door behind her with care. Silence, and the relief that came with solitude, washed over her as she reached inside her reticule and retrieved her furry companion. Snowball squeaked, wriggling between Sarah’s fingers as she stroked him gently across his back. “I’m sorry,” she whispered. “I know you’d love nothing better than to scamper about between these plants, but if I set you down, I’ll never find you again.” Stepping forward, she started along the path while her gaze leapt from one massive glass window to the next.

Andover Abby didn’t have a conservatory, and Sarah had always wanted to visit a house that did. She just hadn’t imagined finding one of such incredible size. Why, it had to be at least one hundred yards long, and the width . . . perhaps twenty or thirty? Thinking herself alone and lost in her attempt to calculate an accurate square footage, Sarah instinctively leapt at the sound of a very loud grunt, startled by it to such a degree that she let go of Snowball, who tumbled to the ground and, as one might expect from a curious hamster, chose not to sit and wait for Sarah to pick him up again but raced off along the path as fast as his tiny legs could carry him. Forgetting the sound she’d just heard, Sarah hurried after him, desperate to catch him before she lost him forever in the small jungle.

“Snowball?” Sarah hissed, as if the creature would actually come walking back to her when summoned. Pushing past some wide leaves, she finally spotted the little fellow, sitting quite happily on the edge of the pathway. Heart pounding in her chest, Sarah dropped to a crouch and eased her way forward, desperate to prevent him from leaping off between the bushes. Good heavens, she’d never find him then! With measured breaths, Sarah moved with the silence of a wraith—at least to her own way of thinking— and as tedious and strenuous as the endeavor proved, she knew she had to avoid startling Snowball at all cost.

Eventually, she reached him, her hand moving toward him, ready to snatch him up, just as another grunt shook the air.

Snowball darted off beneath a fern, and Sarah swore with vigor. Hands clenched into two tight fists, she prepared to rise and give whatever creature it was that had produced the sound a proper set down, when a voice spoke, saying, “Aren’t you a bit too old to be crawling about on the floor?”

Sarah froze. If the grunt had belonged to a pig, she might have understood. A pig would not have been clever enough to know what Sarah was trying to accomplish, but then again, a pig would not have been roaming around a conservatory either. Her irritation grew. Of course her efforts had failed because of a man. Brilliant!

Expelling a deep breath, she unclenched her fists, closed her eyes for a brief second and rose, deter- mined to avoid a quarrel with the foolish individual behind her. She prayed that somehow she’d find the ability to be polite in spite of her annoyance. “Sir,” she started to say as she turned toward the dunce, “I will have you know that I . . .” Her words trailed off as he came into view.

Heaven above if the addlepated dunderhead had not been graced with looks that could easily make a roomful of women swoon. Sarah steeled herself. She would not allow his handsome face to affect her. “Where else should I be, all things considered?”

“On your feet?” he suggested, as if he were speaking to a child.

Sarah glared at him. “Obviously,” she said. “Why on earth didn’t I think of that?”

Idiot.

The man’s eyes widened as he leaned back a notch, and Sarah realized to her horror that she’d spoken the insult out loud.

_____________________________________________________________

Giveaway:

Up for grabs are copies of Lady Sarah's Sinful Desires.

Good luck!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

About the Author:

Born in Denmark, Sophie Barnes spent her youth traveling with her parents to wonderful places all around the world. Her job? Dragging kids out of virtual reality and back to their parents in the real world. It’s normally easy cash, but Nixy’s latest mission is fraught with real danger, intrigue, and romance.

Nixy Bauer is used to her classmates being very, very unhappy to see her. After all, she’s a bounty hunter in a virtual reality gaming world. Kids in the MEEP, as they call it, play entirely with their minds, while their bodies languish in a sleeplike state on the couch. Irritated parents, looking to wrench their kids back to reality, hire Nixy to jump into the game and retrieve them.

But when the game’s billionaire developer loses track of his own son in the MEEP, Nixy is in for the biggest challenge of her bounty-hunting career. Wyn Salvador isn’t some lazy kid looking to escape his homework: Wyn does not want to be found. And he’s left behind a suicide note. Nixy takes the job but quickly discovers that Wyn’s not hiding—he’s being held inside the game against his will. But who is holding him captive, and why?

Nixy and Wyn attempt to fight their way out of a mind game unlike any they’ve encountered, and the battle brings them closer than either could have imagined. But when the whole world is virtual, how can Nixy possibly know if her feelings are real?

Gamers and action fans of all types will dive straight into the MEEP, thanks to Julia Durango’s cinematic storytelling. A touch of romance adds some heart to Nixy’s vivid, multidimensional journey through Wyn’s tricked-out virtual city, and constant twists keep readers flying through to the breathtaking end.

Goodreads/Amazon/B&N

My Rating: 5 Roses

With thrills, twists, and a bit of romance, The Leveller was a fantastic YA read that I really enjoyed. Since Lucy mastered her powers, King Henry has kept her close. And now he’s called her to investigate attempted murder—by a mermaid. All Lucy can glean from the creature they’ve captured is a warning: The sea is coming. We are coming. And we will drown you all.

And then the floods begin. Swaths of London are submerged as the people scramble to defend themselves against the water, and the monsters, that are flooding their streets. As mistrust of Lucy’s magic grows, the king relies on Nat, Lucy’s great love, to guide them through the storm. But Nat is cold and distant to Lucy. He swore his love only a year before, but now he calls her “stranger.”

Lucy is determined to defeat this powerful new magic alone if she must. With a mix of court politics, sweeping magic, and sweet romance, this book was wonderful and I loved it.

Lucy got stronger and smarter over the last two books and that trend continued in this book. Lucy was clever, tough, and determined to put a stop to the attacks if she had to do it herself. I thought she was lovely.

We already knew that Nat was clever from the previous books and, in this book, Nat had made sure that the rest of the world knew that as well. He made himself into a respected court member and proved to himself that he could do it on his own. He was smart, sweet, and a great hero.

The romance was mostly good. Despite the nearly 2 years separation, they both clearly still loved each other, even both they had both changed. My issue with it was that they seemed to make problems for themselves when it was clear to literally everyone else that they were perfect for each other. It was a little annoying but not a big deal. I still thought they were a lovely couple.

The plot was fast paced and riddled with thrills and twists. I was hooked from page 1. I really liked that we got a look into the origins of the Chantresses, which allowed me to understand that whole thing so much better. The story was wonderful and the ending was a lovely conclusion to the series.

Chantress Fury was an amazing YA read that I loved. It tied up the series perfectly, with thrills, secrets, and romance along the way. Fans of the series, you won't be disappointed with the conclusion. And, YA lovers, this is a series worth the read.

*I received a complimentary copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review

_________________________________________________________________

Excerpt:

I looked at the mermaid, and she looked at me—and I gave myself over to listening.

At first I only heard the water in the barrel, and its vexation at being contained. Round and round it went, an endless circling melody. But then I caught a glimmer of something else: A chilling music that told me that something in the barrel felt hunted; something felt afraid. And it wasn’t the Frustrated, I wrapped my fingers around the edge of the barrel. She was right there in front of me, but I couldn’t reach her, and I didn’t dare touch her, not when she was so frightened already....

The water in the barrel bobbled. As it washed over my fingertips, a wave of feeling washed over me, too: a bath of remorse so strong that it made me pull my hand from the water in shock.

The mermaid was sorry?

With a twist of her fins, she broke the surface again. Liquid streamed from her hair, and down over her skin. It took me a few moments to see that it wasn’t just seawater, but tears.

I touched the water again, and again the tide of remorse washed over me—remorse and pain and fear.

She hadn’t wanted to hurt anyone. I knew that now, without a doubt. And I knew something else, too: She was dying.

The gag wasn’t just cutting into her skin, and it wasn’t just stopping her from singing. It was suffocating her. The wadding had wound around her tongue, and now it was trailing down her throat, a little farther with every swallow…

Her panic felt like mine.

_________________________________________________________________

Giveaway:

Up for grabs are copies of Chantress Fury.
Good luck!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

About the Author:

Amy Butler Greenfield was a grad student in history when she gave into temptation and became a writer. Her fingers rested lightly on the sleeve of his coat, and her hip pressed against his. Will closed his eyes briefly, excruciatingly aware of every curve of her body.

He would have asked her to dance that night at his ball, had she not disappeared. Just to have her in his arms if only for a few fleeting moments. Her memory had lodged in his mind, and since then, more times than he cared to admit, Will had imagined what this woman would have felt like next to him, her warmth merged with his. He had imagined repeatedly what it would have felt like to have stolen a kiss.

But he hadn’t anticipated the raw desire that crackled over every nerve ending in his skin and lodged uncomfortably in his groin. Her slightest touch made him feel almost feverish with need. Without meaning to, he leaned forward slightly, inhaling her scent. Soap and sunshine.

The conundrum that was Joseph abruptly faded into the realm of unimportant as Miss Hughes pulled Will forward slightly and he followed, unable to think of anything else to do.

Unable to think, period, except to wonder at his intense and sudden urge to claim those curling lips. He shook his head, trying to regain some measure of control over his runaway libido.

“Joseph may be young,” Miss Hughes was saying, “but I can assure you he is most capable.”

Will tried to listen. But he’d noticed an escaped tendril of hair had plastered itself to the side of her neck, and he imagined pressing his lips to the dampness. It would taste salty and—“If you’d care for a closer look at the stock, Paul will be happy to accommodate you once he returns.” Her voice was coming from a distance, but somehow he couldn’t focus on her words, only her mouth. Why hadn’t he noticed last night that he would barely have to dip his head to kiss her? There was a freckle near her upper lip that he needed to explore.

And why hadn’t he noticed the way her breasts curved enticingly, begging to be worshipped? They weren’t overly large, but they pushed up invitingly beneath her bodice, and Will had the irrational urge to rip that ugly gown away from a body it didn’t deserve. She turned her head, gesturing to something in the distance, and her hair caressed his chin, a brush of soft He’d been hopelessly drawn to Miss Hughes that night of his ball, and now in her presence, the affliction seemed to be getting worse. Perhaps because she was a complete departure from the overdone, overscented, overindulged females he’d been dealing with since he inherited his bloody title. Normally, in his presence, women preened and primped. They giggled and fluttered and hung on his every word. Jenna Hughes did none of those things. She didn’t tug or adjust the awful dress she was wearing, turning just so to give him the best view of her profile or her cleavage. She seemed oblivious to her appearance, and, even more fascinating, indifferent to what he thought of her appearance.

Perhaps it was that confidence that Will found so riveting. There was no pretense with this stunning woman. She would say what she meant and mean what she said. There would be no coyness, no games. When he took her it would be raw. And physical and—“Are you alright, Your Grace?” They had come to a stop.

Will jerked to attention, realizing with horror he was still staring at her breasts like a besotted school boy. Fantasizing about sex he would never have with a woman he should never touch.

_________________________________________________________________

Giveaway:

Up for grabs are copies of A Good Rogue is Hard to Find.

Good luck!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

About the Author:

Kelly Bowen grew up in Manitoba, Canada. She struggled to get her breath back against the dizzying recollection of those big strong arms wrapping around her.

Until that last squeak of self-preservation, when he’d been so appallingly close to taking her, she’d been mad for him. She’d loved everything he’d done. The kisses. The caresses. The murmured praise and encouragement. The heat. The intimacy.

What she knew about this man should disgust and terrify her. He’d bedded women all over England. He’d come close to bedding her. She shivered to remember that hard, insistent weight pressing between her thighs. Yet he’d stopped when she asked, and she couldn’t mistake how he’d repented his loss of control.

When a woman lay at his mercy, what sort of rake let her escape unscathed?

Nothing from last night fitted what she knew, except perhaps how the marquess attracted her like a magnet drew iron.

Was Dorothy mistaken about her seducer’s identity? Why would she blame her fall on Lord Leath if he wasn’t responsible?

And there was the inarguable fact that someone had seduced Dorothy. Now what became of Nell’s quest once the marquess proclaimed her a lightskirt?

Could she convince the Duke of Sedgemoor of Leath’s misdeeds with only Dorothy’s last words as proof? Especially when Nell’s own belief in his crimes wavered with every new day. She had a horrible feeling that Sedgemoor would dismiss her accusations as mere fancy.

Fate must decide.

She raised her chin and marched toward her ladyship’s apartments, only to halt in the doorway on a betraying gasp when she saw Leath with his mother. For one searing moment, his gaze met hers. That sizzling contact transported her back to those torrid moments in his bed. Then he glanced away and continued discussing Lady Sophie’s latest letter.

_________________________________________________________________

Giveaway:

Up for grabs are copies of A Scoundrel by Moonlight.

Good luck!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

About the Author:

Always a voracious reader, Anna Campbell decided when she was a child that she wanted to be a writer. Tying it at her neck like a little old woman, she made her way through the house and outside by way of the kitchen. A steady drizzle greeted her. Sort of. The truth was, the rain felt more like tiny, frozen shards of glass. Already, the hard clay path to the woodpile was slick, covered with a fine sheen of ice. The soles of her shoes slid over the crackling ground, and fog as thick as pillow stuffing obscured her view of the shrubs, trees and outbuildings. She didn’t mind that, however. Not having a glimpse of the carriage house suited her nerves. Just thinking of it, in fact, sent an icy shudder through her, making her grateful that she lived apart from those who knew her shameful secret. A dog howled, startling her away from her thoughts. The nearness of the mournful bay stole the breath from her body. And as luck—or fate—would have it, he can. Ever since coming out of a coma as a kid, he has been able to create alternate worlds. Worlds where he is a superhero, or a ladies’ man, or simply a better version of himself. That’s the world he’s been escaping to most since sophomore year, a world where he has everything he doesn’t have in real life: friends, a place of honor on the track team, passing grades, and most importantly, Kylie Simms as his girlfriend.

But when Jonathan confuses his worlds senior year and tries to kiss the real Kylie Simms, everything unravels. The real Kylie actually notices Jonathan…and begins obsessing over him. The fantasy version of Kylie struggles to love Jonathan as she was created to do, and the consequences are disastrous. As his worlds collide, Jonathan must confront the truth of his power and figure out where he actually belongs—before he loses both Kylies forever.

Goodreads/Amazon/B&N

My Rating: 4 Roses

An interesting concept that turned out to be a great story, In a World Just Right was a fantastic YA read. There was more than one version of her that were kind of the same but with enough differences that they weren't identical and that made her an interesting character. But, like Johnathon, her character throughout it all was nice and accepting of everyone. I thought she was a great character as well.

The romance was really sweet. It was definitely different, with the different worlds and all that. But, throughout every world, Johnathon and Kylie were a sweet couple.

The plot moved quickly, keeping me interested all the way through. The only downside of the story was that the world-building and explanations weren't all there. I got enough that I had some understanding of what was going on but not enough that I could say I really got the whole concept. I still had a few questions, mostly over some details that weren't quite explained. But, it wasn't that bad and I was still able to follow the story so it wasn't a major problem. I still really liked the story. There were several twists along the way that really took me by surprise and made the story unpredictable. And the ending was perfect.

In a World Just Right was a fantastic YA read that I really liked. It had an interesting idea, a few unexpected surprises, and a great story. But, it turned out I didn't have to be worried because this book was wonderful. Enjoyable and romantic, The Harlot Countess was a lovely romance and I really liked it.

Maggie was a tough heroine. She faced a scandal with her head held high and dealt with every misfortune she had to endure. Even after that, she made something of herself and refused to live at society's whims. I thought she was lovely.

Simon was frustrating at first. I found it irritating how he assumed the worst of Maggie more than once. Things could have been solved so much easier if he bothered to ask for her side of things. But, at the same time, he also proved himself to be kind, generous, and rather sweet. So, overall, I liked him.

The romance was great. Once Simon no longer held on to his assumptions, the feelings that they had for each other from several years ago came back and grew stronger. And, they definitely had a lot of chemistry together. There were sparks constantly flying and ten years' worth of attraction going up between them.

The plot moved quickly and kept me interested right from the start. There wasn't much in terms of surprises along the way. I actually didn't understand how Maggie and Simon didn't suspect who it turned out to be. It was sweet, with some spice, and a couple of surprises along the way. I thought it was a lovely read.

Rose was a great heroine. I didn't think I would like her at first, with how shrewdly she manipulated people. But, after finding out why she did it and seeing her other qualities, she grew on me. In the end, I found her to be clever, devoted to her loved ones and determined to protect them, and ultimately a likable character.

Avendale came off as rather cold at first, with the mask he kept firmly in place at all times. But, as the book went on and he fell in love with Rose, his softer side came to light and made him a much more likable character. I still wish there had been more to him, as his issues seemed to be swept aside quickly for convenience, but I liked him overall.

The romance was lovely. Though it didn't seem like it at first, Rose and Avendale were a well matched couple, both clever and strong enough to keep up with each other. And, they definitely had enough chemistry to turn up the heat more than once. I thought they were great together.

Rose's brother, Harry, was an interesting character. It took a while to actually get to his character and learn about him but, when I did, I grew rather fond of him. He hadn't had an easy life and still didn't, but he was still a kind and sweet boy and I really liked him.

The plot was okay but the pace was, to be honest, kind of slow. I was never able to get fully engaged in the story and found myself skimming on more than one occasion. Also, a change in the plot about halfway through made the first and second halves of the book almost seem like different books. It didn't feel like there was a single goal throughout the story to connect all the plot points and that might be why I didn't get fully drawn into the book.

However, I still did enjoy the book overall. Though I wasn't totally engaged, I was kept interested all the way through and I thought the ending was nice. This book might not have been perfect, but it was still a great read.

The Duke and the Lady in Red was a lovely historical romance. It was a sweet read, both emotional and romantic, and I liked it. Packed with misadventures and romance, this book was wonderful and I enjoyed reading it.

Prudence was great. The sensible and practical sister, she had gotten nothing for her good behavior but impending spinsterhood and she was done with it. So, off she went on an adventure and proved herself more than what she thought herself to be. My only issue with her was that, after showing herself to be a strong character, she made a really poor decision that was weakly justified and it ruined an otherwise lovely story. But, other than that, I really liked her.

Road was just wonderful. He was so very sweet and protective over those he loved, including Prudence and his sister. She set her sketch book and charcoal pencil down on the branch and took a moment to appreciate the scenery before her. Brightly was noted for its lush gardens and rolling green hills, and she found it impossible to imagine any other property in England being as lovely.

This was her favorite tree, had been for years, and one of the only places she could disappear to when she felt the need for a respite from her three sisters and older brother. She relished the quiet of her hiding place, the silence disturbed only by the soft wind skimming the pond, the rustling of the leaves in the oak groves, and the occasional coo of a nesting bird.

“You naughty minx!”

Lilly startled, the unexpected sound of a man’s voice coming from out of nowhere. She steadied herself against the branch in front of her, knocking her sketchbook onto the ground in the process. She sighed, doubting the book would survive the fall intact. I absolutely loved this book and I thought it was a wonderful read.

Cassandra was a lovely heroine. She was very smart and wanted nothing more than to be a doctor, though the rules of the age prevented that. But, that didn't stop her from learning all she could and she carried that determination over when things in her life became, well, different. She was a clever, strong character and I really liked her.

Rafael was also great. In the first two books in the series, he came off as gruff and somewhat taciturn. In this book, he still did but we get to see the other sides of him. His determination to protect the vampires that were left in his charge, the kindness that he was reluctant to reveal, and his sweetness when he fell in love. He really was adorable and I liked him as well.

The romance was very well done. Cassandra and Rafael had been interested in each other from when they met at another's wedding and, after being forced to be in each other's company for several weeks, those feelings had a chance to deepen. And, the attraction between them definitely came to boil. I thought they were a lovely couple.

The plot kept me engaged all the way through, staying fast paced from the start. The threat of rebellion and betrayal definitely added some thrills and kept me on the edge of my seat. I love the story and the ending was perfect.

Bite at First Sight was a dark, thrilling, and romantic historical/paranormal romance that I really loved. Her fingers had long since gone numb with the effort of navigating the dratted conveyance over uneven ground and across slippery, damp grass. Shovels and pry bars clanked across the wagon’s worn pine boards. The winch rattled on its frame.

Something flickered across the corner of her vision.

Cassandra jumped. She stopped and rubbed her gloved hands together for warmth, surveying the graveyard. The area was still and silent as…well, a tomb. Yet the chill in her spine refused to abate. A scornful frown turned her lips at such irrational behavior. Ghosts were an illogical figment of uneducated imaginations, and no one could possibly have business out here at this hour…except herself.

“Worthless curs,” Cassandra whispered in as haughty a tone as she could manage.

If only the men to whom she’d offered a more-than-generous sum to perform this troublesome task had done their duty, rather than disappearing. She shook her head. If not for their unreasonable negligence, she would now be comfortably ensconced in her laboratory unraveling the secrets of the human body…not out in this cold, dreary place, jumping at shadows.

Surveying the newest graves, she read the dates to decide which would be the best specimen. The mysterious disappearance of her hired hands nagged at her. Could a murderer be on the loose? She shook her head and pulled the folds of her cloak tighter. No, by now the authorities would have found their bodies and the news would be sensationalized in The Times.

They were cowards, but she was not. To prove her lack of fear, Cassandra halted her wagon and fetched out a shovel. Her hands trembled nervously as she grasped the wooden handle.

Removing the dead from their graves was illegal. If a constable caught her, she’d be sent directly to Fleet Prison. A fresh surge of trepidation curled in her belly.

Exhuming a corpse was quite a different matter from having one ready on her operating table. As objective as she tried to be, the prospect of removing the body from its carefully arranged resting place by winching it out of the ground and loading it onto her cart was undeniably gruesome. However, gruesome or not, Cassandra needed a specimen to continue her work. And she would acquire it, no matter how much her nerves protested.

Despite being barred from official education as a physician because of her sex, Cassandra was determined to learn the skills required to become a doctor. That included studying human anatomy, and for that, she required cadavers.

Returning to the graves, she made her selection. Alfred Lumley, born September first, 1801; died September twenty-sixth, 1823. Two days ago Alfred had been a living twenty-two-year-old man, three years younger than herself. Whether or not he’d been healthy, she would soon determine. A pang of sorrow struck her heart. His soul is in heaven, she reminded herself. A mere shell remains. A shell that will help me to aid the living.

She raised the shovel, ready to plunge it into the soft soil. “I am not afraid. I am not.”

“You should be.” A sinister, accented voice pierced her consciousness.

The shovel fell from her nerveless fingers, thudding onto the cold ground.

Cassandra knew that voice; it had the rich, dark cadence that had haunted her dreams since the night she’d first met him. She spun around, the hood of her cloak falling to her shoulders.

Rafael Villar stepped out from behind a mausoleum. The shadows embraced his bronze skin, obscuring the scars on the left side of his face while moonlight highlighted his exotic features on the right.

Known as “the Spaniard,” Villar had been an infamous pugilist in Cheapside despite having only one functioning arm. The eccentric and wealthy Duke of Burnrath was his sponsor. Cassandra had often encountered Villar at Burnrath House when attending the duchess’s literary circles. Right away she’d suspected that there was more to the relationship between Rafael and Their Graces. And she’d been utterly and completely fascinated by him.

When the duke and duchess departed for the Continent to travel, Villar had leased Burnrath House. By all accounts he was rich as a nabob. For the remainder of the Season, Don Villar was all the ton could gossip about. But when months passed without the Spaniard making the slightest attempt to join Society, he was forgotten. Cassandra would have forgotten him as well, if it weren’t for those damned dreams. Now he stood before her in the most unexpected place and at the most inconvenient time.

Good Lord, will he turn me in to the authorities?

She opened her mouth to ask the reason for his presence, but the words caught in her throat when she saw that his amber eyes were glowing like a funeral pyre. His sensuous lips—lips she’d unreasonably dreamed of kissing—drew back to reveal white, even teeth…with two gleaming fangs for incisors.

Before she could scream or flee, Don Villar’s fiery gaze widened, then narrowed in recognition. “You! You’ve been the one disturbing my people?”

“Y-your people?” Cassandra stammered, staring raptly at those sharp fangs. She’d certainly never seen those during their previous encounters. Her heart leaped into her throat in dawning horror. This man was not human.

His lips curled back in a sneer, puckering the scars on the left side of his face. “Don’t play coy with me, Countess.” The word was filled with disdain. “Some of my subordinates reported hunters disturbing their lairs.” He gestured at the mausoleum behind him. “It is hard to fathom that you’re behind this, though I should have guessed. Is that why you befriended the Duchess of Burnrath?”

“I haven’t the slightest idea what you are going on about. I came here to… Well, it is no concern of yours.” A wave of indignation bolstered her courage. How dare he speak of her most treasured friendship in such a manner? How dare he accuse her of duplicity when he stood before her sporting unnatural teeth and luminescent eyes? And of what exactly was he accusing her? “What does Her Grace have to do with this?” Cassandra took a shaky step back. “And, in the name of heaven, what are you?”

In a blink of an eye, Rafael stood inches from her. With the same impossible speed, he grasped her shoulder, pulling her close against him. Dizziness swarmed her mind at the feel of his firm heat and his intoxicating scent of forbidden spices. His crippled left arm moved lightly around her waist, his fingers delicately brushing across her lower back. The heady combination of rough and gentle made her tremble.

His eyes locked on hers. “I will show you, Countess.”

Then his mouth was on her neck, firm lips caressing the sensitive flesh, somehow more intimate than anything she’d experienced during her ill-fated marriage. Cassandra melted against him, tangling her fingers in his silken hair.

Sharp pain exploded in her throat as his fangs broke her skin. Cassandra cried out and tried to push him away, but his iron-like right arm mercilessly held her immobile. The pain took flight, and drugging pleasure fluttered within her belly. A low moan escaped her throat as she pulled him closer. Liquid desire pulsed between her thighs. Whatever this was, she needed more, craved it with mindless longing.

Rafael pulled away, muttering a foreign curse. “You’re a grave robber?” Lifting his finger to his mouth, he pierced his flesh with one pearly fang and then gently touched the wound on her throat. The soft touch was juxtaposed by his blazing eyes and furious snarl.

She barely heard his words as her eyes locked on those deadly fangs. Cassandra froze as realization shook her to the core. He wiped her neck with a handkerchief. In confirmation of her suspicions, blood spotted the snowy cloth like an accusation.

“Vampire,” she gasped, struggling to breathe. The foundations of her scientific beliefs quaked within her consciousness. Fairy tales were not true, and magic was not real. Yet here he stood, ready to devour her blood and perhaps her soul. Terror gripped her heart like ice.

The creature that should not exist outside of myth nodded. “Yes, but you will not remember the fact.”

His eyes glowed brighter, capturing her gaze. The intensity caused a fresh wave of dizziness, but Cassandra fought it off. The vampire stood like a statue, continuing to stare at her in a most unnerving manner.

After an endless moment, she shook her head and took another wary step back. “Why are you looking at me like that?”

Villar blinked and the fire dimmed from his gaze. An explosion of Spanish expletives came out in a growl as he seized her arm. “I apologize, Countess. You’ll have to come with me.”

“C-come with you where?” Cassandra stammered in confusion, trying to pull away. He’d already bitten her and drunk her blood. What more could he want? “Why? And f-for how long?”

“I am taking you to Burnrath House,” Rafael snarled through clenched teeth. “I have no choice but to place you under arrest until I can determine what to do with you.”

***

Rafe bit back another growl. Madre de Dios, why did the mysterious intruder have to be her? The Countess of Rosslyn was the only mortal in over three centuries to have gotten under his skin, and he still did not know why. And why did she have to be one of the rare individuals immune to mesmerism?

He’d wanted a brief moment to punish her for being a nuisance to him yet again. He’d wanted to punish her, to show her the folly in seeking out a monster, before banishing her memory. It was the worst of luck that the first mortal he’d deliberately revealed himself to was impervious to his power.

“Arrest?” Lady Rosslyn struggled in his grip, her warm flesh slipping beneath his grasp on the sleeve of her cloak, drawing his attention back to the vexing situation at hand. “Are you a constable?”

“Constable? Hardly. I am Lord of this city.” He held her fast.

“Lord? Of all of London? Whatever do you mean?” The countess tried once more to pull away. “And what of my wagon?”

Rafe tugged her closer before she could trip over a gravestone. “Damn it, woman. Devil take your wagon! You fail to grasp the severity of this situation.”

Truly, it would have been a simple matter had he succeeded in clearing the woman’s mind of the memory. Hell, it still would have been simple if the woman hadn’t been her. Not when her sweet, rich taste lay thick on his tongue. Not when her intoxicating scent of rose petals and woman engulfed his senses.

“Well, of course I do not grasp the situation!” Lady Rosslyn exclaimed, maddeningly oblivious to the tentative hold he had on his temper. “You have failed to explain it! First, I had no idea that vampires existed outside fiction. Furthermore, I have no notion why one would arrest me for exhuming a corpse for my studies. I am fully aware that my actions are illegal, but the logic eludes me as to how that should mean anything to you.”

Rafe sucked in a hissing breath through his teeth, biting back a stream of curses. Conversing with humans had never been his strong suit, but talking with Lady Rosslyn was always especially trying. “Your morbid hobby is of no concern to me. I had mistakenly believed you were hunting my people. You’re fortunate that my people didn’t take action themselves. That you weren’t beaten bloody by a mob, your house set aflame!”

Rafe closed his eyes, remembering how Ian’s third-in-command and a gang of other vengeful vampires had done exactly that to a prominent surgeon only three years ago. Ian had been apoplectic with rage. If the man’s wife hadn’t been in the country, she would surely have perished. Ian had punished the mob and issued a law that all suspicious mortals were to be handled only by the Lord of London from then on.

“Morbid?” Cassandra repeated, oblivious to the rest of his words. “You drank my blood only moments ago and you call me morbid?” Her sea-green eyes glared up at him from beneath impossibly long lashes. The captivating contact was broken too soon when she shook her head. “Well, if it is a mistake, then why are you arresting me?”

Ah and what a sweet drink it was. Yet somehow her life and memories had been more potent. Rafe usually closed his mind to his victims’ lives when he fed, but in the case of Lady Rosslyn, he had needed to discover what she was up to.

Lady Rosslyn seemed to have been a very busy woman during the last year. She’d had the daring to apply to Oxford, Cambridge, and Saint Bartholomew’s to master the healing arts. All those establishments had turned her away because of her sex. But she did not give up. Instead, she’d set forth with her studies alone, even robbing graves to learn the secrets of the human body.

Rafe sighed. This evening’s events had all been a misunderstanding. Unfortunately, one that could not be rectified. The Elders would not permit her to leave his presence alive.

“It is forbidden for mortals to know of our kind. I attempted to banish your memory of the encounter, but it appears you are immune to my powers. It wasn't perfect but I did like it.

Grace was a likable character. Good-natured and kind, she tried to see the best in everyone but she also knew how to hold her ground. I thought she was lovely.

Ambrose, however, wasn't my favorite hero. Until the last couple of chapters, he came across as cruelly unconcerned about anything other than his family name and that led him to hurting Grace more than once. The only reason I didn't fully dislike him was because he did eventually see the light. so, while he wasn't my favorite hero, I was okay with him.

The romance was okay but not my favorite. To be honest, I would rather have seen Grace end up with Dansbury, Ambrose's friend, because he was much kinder to her. But, in the end, after Ambrose got his act together, I like Ambrose and Grace as a couple.

The story was quick and I enjoyed it. While this wasn't perfect, it was a good read. Romance lovers, you might want to look this one up.

*I received a complimentary copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review

_________________________________________________________________

Excerpt:

A knowledgeable lady understands that, typically, the best way to make a good first impression is not to fall bottom first into a puddle of mud. Alas, Grace Radclyffe, with her inclination towards unfortunate mishaps, found this knowledge to be generally useless in the reality of her everyday life.

Therefore, despite the uncomfortable feeling of wetness seeping through her gown and the faint-though-nearby sound of dripping mud, she did what any sensible lady of good upbringing would do in less than ideal circumstances. She cursed. With conviction.

“Bloody hell. Not again.”

So maybe she didn’t say that. But it was something she occasionally thought in her mind, though only in her mind.

In actuality, she chuckled lightheartedly (because it’s always best to set yourself and any potential rescuers at ease in awkward situations) and graciously procured the proffered handkerchief dangling over her left shoulder. Then, after clearing the mud from her face so she could actually see and with cheeks tinged only slightly from embarrassment (because, really, that kerchief hadn’t been dangling over her shoulder on its own), she peered up to thank her would-be rescuer and

Gasped. Out loud.

For staring down at her with one eyebrow lifted in question, were a pair of eyes—emerald green eyes to be more precise. The most deeply penetrating emerald green eyes she had ever seen in all of her near twenty-one years.

_________________________________________________________________

Giveaway:

Up for grabs is a heart shaped charm on a leather corded necklace, pictured below.

US only.

Good luck!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

About the Author:

Amy Quinton is an author and full time mom living in Summerville, SC.
