My Blog: Hey hey! Do not sing that song all over me again! Here, look at this. It's one of your favorites. Get inspired woman, and get back to work.

Me: Ah, such is life. Song sung blue, everybody knows one. Song sung..

My Blog: Psst..hello, readers, wohoo, yup, you guys. Oh alright! Ladies and Gentlemen! That is polite, right? Now, can you please send some sunshine her way before I hang (myself)? Pretty please?

Me: Well, green is a kind of a blue. They are from the same family. They are practically cousins. And then when there is no sunshine, green looks like blue. So there.

Travellers and Magicians

Travellers and Magicians; Tales of a sea gypsy; Atelier; Indigo blue...

These are just some of the themes that lured me to The Society Inc., a eclectic store owned by Grazia's interior editor - Sibella Court, in Sydney. The store changes its 'theme' four times each year, and each theme transports the customers to a story created from products from real places, and imagined eras.
The interiors and decor in these pics is reflective of the myriad magical themes, and yet has a very real, down to earth feel to it. And that is what I like about such decor - dreamy, but also very doable in your own home.

Mr. Wilbert Das, when not being the über creative director at Diesel, is into setting up beautiful villas in Brazil. So glad he picked up this 'hobby', else we wouldn't have had Uxua Casa Home.

"Above a remote stretch of Brazil’s Bahian coastline sits an enchanting fishing village called Trancoso. On the town’s historic green (the Quadrado) is a secret garden holding a luxurious hideaway; nine 1-3 bedroom houses built and decorated in collaboration with local artisans using traditional building methods, recycled materials, and exquisite attention to detail."

India, Guatemala, Bhutan, Mexico, Mongolia, Brazil, Uzbekistan....just some of the places that have inspired Gudrun Sjödén to create a beautiful and prolific line of clothes, and home furnishing. Combine this mélange of influence with Scandinavian design traditions, and well, you have a collection that makes your heart skip a beat. Mine skipped more than a couple actually, and made me take hasty decisions like wanting to share this goodness from Sweden as soon as possible. Like pronto. Like without any further delay and, without much ado. Quite a difficult task since I had to stop drooling and do mundane things like copy paste, format, align, swear etc. And get used to blogger's new fangled post editor. Sigh! I can keep rambling on, but, I strongly recommend that you stop reading and start scrolling. And then tell me how many beats did your heart skip?

And home furnishing isn't even the mainstay of Gurdun...she actually specializes in creating incredibly beautiful clothing line.

While browsing via my latest adda (hindi for: a place where you hangout), I came across rooms, all scanned from magazines, that had Retro and/or India written all over them. You would know what my next thought was - I have to share these gems with you!

(sorry, the images are a bit grainy...)

The swing (jhoola) - common feature in traditional Indian homes. This room seems to be from a haveli

The crowded corner and center table :)

Low stools (moodha) - you can find these selling along the highways, especially in the north and central India

Beautiful latticed wooden screen. Below the low sitting arrangement is footwear: kolhapuri chappals and mojris

Rijuta's Art...

Rijuta Rishi is a graphic designer, and an eternal doodler. I loved her work when she first shared some of her art with me sometime back. One thing led to another, and she very graciously created banner art for An Indian Summer (look look - new header!). This header heralds the soon-to-come autumn/fall season :)

Rijuta on her art:

"I'm very drawn to ancient India, its mysticism and myths, so it's probably why I get very inspired by the traditional arts. There's room to 'say' something in many layers, and the symbolism is subtly embedded amidst their stories. Traditional forms feature in my doodles and art quite often, and mostly, I forget the world when I'm doing these."

Meera Dabir

From designing and making props for movie sets, to creating magic on the walls of homes and establishments of many high profile clients in India, to now doing a masters in design in London - Meera is clearly in pursuit of creative happiness! When she started in India 10 years back, she used what ever paints and pigments were available and experimented with and invented her own techniques and colour concoctions, making sure that effect looks organic. Steering clear of the commercial synthetic effects, such as walls mottled using a spray gun, she aims for effect that is well blended and subtle and looks like as if there were worlds lurking beneath the surface - like an abstract painting; not like a pig dressed up for the county fair! She firmly believes that the thing with building colourscapes, is like poetry - it's all about feeling.

Hayan Maani

Hayan Maani is a multi talented artist from Jordan, and his work covers a wide array of design directions -from paintings and calligraphy to logos and advertising, all within a journey of over 20 years. He firmly believes in the power of expression, individualism and originality. Take a look at his site for some incredible work of art, the bronze sculptures being my personal favorite.

Sonal Nathwani

Sonal's work reflects a blend of Asian and European influences and sensibilities. She was born in Malawi to Indian parents, and grew up in England, and polished her innate talent at a fine art course at the renowned Charles H. Cecil Studios in Italy. Take a look at her gallery to view her lovely paintings

Plum Pretty Sugar

Charlotte Mills runs and owns the brand of Loungerie (bedding, loungewear) called Plum Pretty Sugar. The fabrics and inspiration, both are from India. Her creations, specially the loungewear are deliciously dreamy and summery. You can buy these from her etsy shop.

The Loaded Trunk

Doesn't the name 'The Loaded Trunk' sound exciting? It reminds me of treasure hunts, and when I looked at Roni's online store, it was like a treasure hunt come true! Incredibly beautiful rugs, fabrics, art objects - all collected from different parts of the world, specially the orient. You have to go and take a look....and buy me a rug while you are at it ;-)

The Style Saloniste

Dianne Dorrans Saeks, the very well known author of many design and style books, wrote a beautiful tribute to the legendary Rajmata Gayatri Devi, the incredibly beautiful and famous former maharani of Jaipur. The article is a fitting tribute to a princess who has been a symbol of Indian erstwhile royalty for the world. Thanks for sharing the article and your experiences, Dianne.

If you live in Milan, Florence, Rome or Madrid, please raise your hand. And, if you love all things Indian, raise your other hand. This post is going to make you happy. Very happy. For I am sharing Lisa Corti's fabulous line up of Indian furnishing, furniture, garments and pottery - a store that is located in your very own city! So read on. And yes, you may put your hands down now...unless you can scroll using telekinesis ;-)

Others, i.e. non-residents of above mentioned cities: Do not despair! Lisa Corti's goodies also retail in other European and American cities. I guess that leaves folks from Asia Pacific..well, India is just a flight away anyway! And for us in India, more inspiration on what to look out for the next time we go shopping. :)

Nothing fancy. Just an online scrapbook of things I like - art, jewelry, photographs, music, poetry, books, furniture, rooms, humour, DIYs, dresses, accessories, cats, illustrations, recipes, typography...anything that catches my eye! While I will continue sharing interior inspiration on 'An Indian Summer', for all of you who have liked what I have liked, hop over to An Indian Summer Likes for more of my likes! Yikes! Kishani Perera

I stumbled upon Kishani Perera's portfolio and liked her way of incorporating Asian and Indian touches to primarily western interiors. Her designs very nicely illustrate the fact that oriental influence on design does not necessarily need to be over the top. Kishani has a bunch of interesting projects as part of her repertoire and she loves to use resources from around the world to bring an distinct interpretation of style to her client's homes. Here's a look at the designs from her portfolio that I liked :

Very simple and elegant arrangement on a side table. I really like the vase - reminiscent of traditional Indian pickle/chutney holders called 'martbaan' (in North India). Readers from India: I would love to know what are these called in your region :)

Old wooden chests work very well as a table

Traditional Indian furniture painted in bright colors add a touch of quirkiness to this room

Bright 'sindoor' holder from Benaras on the centre table. These are available in many different sizes.

I like the cosy warm feel of this room with a 'diwan' style sofa and bright cushions

Chetna Vij Sharma, the brain child behind this design firm, is a graduate from The Pratt Institute, NY, and has been working as a graphic designer in India. Ching Teoh's art work

Eva Hanusova

Eva, from Czech Republic, became fascinated with the handmade jewelry world while taking classes at School of Visual Arts and Parson School of Design in New NY. This being the 200th post and all, I have gone a bit overboard. Which translates into a lot of eye candy of design and style that I find myself drawn to these days. And I found all of this on one incredible photographer's site - Jordi Canosa. The fact that the images also had shades of India and Morocco, here and there, made it all even better :)
