Big day on South Dixie Highway!

Brooke and Steve Giannetti are signing

their fabulous book, "Patina Life" at the

Lars Bolander Shop.

I am an avid follower of this couple, not just for

their great style, but they were the bloggers

to aspire to when I started.

I hope they were both impressed with all the

shops on Antique Row. Over 40 shops

located within walking distance of

each other.

It's a wonderful book with

spiral binding so that

you can lay it flat.

It is loaded with his sketches, ideas,

comments and musings

about his clients and their projects.

Matthew worked for David Easton who worked with Mr. Hadley.

His lineage is well established indeed.

Mr. Hadley and Mr. Smyth were both

honored last fall at the

STARS OF DESIGN AWARD of 2011.

Doc Martin ... so British!

I am a huge fan of British film and television

and with the divine Downton Abby back for a new season
I can't seem to get enough of those crazy folks.

If you are also of this ilk let me turn you on to a fabulous

series called "Doc Martin"

Martin Clunes is so terrific in this role and

the supporting ensemble is brilliant!

I found all 4 seasons on Netflix and spent an entire weekend

watching all 30 episodes.

Dr. Martin Ellington is a very successful surgeon from London,
who develops a phobia to blood.
He opens up a general practice by

the sea in the tiny hamlet of Port Isaac in Cornwall.
Martin's entire wardrobe consists of suits and shirt;
the only time he is not in a suite is at bedtime
and will even wear suits on his day off.

The town is filled with the usual English cast of characters including:

His Aunt Joan, who raised Martin. and still runs her farm

by the sea with a vengence.

A love interest in the Head Mistress at the

village school.

A plumber who opens a restaurant...and he wasn't a

great plumber, so this is better than it sounds.

His son who is so sweet and funny.

Local folks with ailments you have never heard of

who find their way

to Doc Martin's cottage on the bluff.

A previous colleague who worked with

him in London.

The pharmacist who has a huge crush on the Doc.

His receptionist is the BEST!

This is the law in town...sweet, but...

But, as i said, the interior of his office really kept me

looking for new details with each show.

Doc Martin's surgery office is painted one overall

deep gray/green color.

It certainly makes the furnishings pop.

I love the buddha in the background.

It moves to different spots in the office.

Of course, he is totally obsessive and it shows in every

aspect of his character.

Isn't this a terrific desk?

I think the windows are prefect.

The contrast of these prints matted in the soft orange warms

brilliantly with the wall color.

I have not found out yet, may never know, where his

Chinese influence comes from but it is

very apparent.

The doorways are so low that

he has to stoop to get through them throughout older section

of the house.

His private area is very smart.

The typical English wallpaper in his waiting room, but it looks great with

the paint color and details. The chairs are just

inspiring with the wall lantern fixtures.

After learning that his hobby is repairing clocks, they

begin to appear in the interiors.

Isn't this fantastic hardware on his backdoor?

And a Dutch door no less.

And very funny too.

One of my top ten writers.

This brilliant movie of his novel "The Razor's Edge" is full

of great actors; Tyronne Powers, Gene Tierney, Herbert Marshall

as Mr. Maugham and the wonderful Edmund Goulding as Elliott Templeton.

"The Moon and Sixpence" is loosely based on the life of Gauguin,
again Herbert plays Mr. Maugham's character.

But this!!!
Miss Davis in "The Letter".

All the while he traveled the world, Maugham rubbed shoulders

with the richest and the most famous people of the day,

put together a private art collection of Impressionist paintings

that was the envy of all who saw it, and

observed the human condition in all its myriad forms.

And, of course, we all know that even though he was
a homosexual, he married one of the first interior designers
of the last century, Syrie Maugham and had a child.

Take some time and read/listen to a few of his short

stories. I am sure you will be as taken with

his writings as I have always been.

Many years ago I was thrilled to find the

Otomoi Indian women of Mexico

and produced a line of pillows using their

fabulous embroideries.

Just the other day I found on Elements of Style

a company that is printing this design

in many colors, fabrics and can even

be ordered quilted.

How fantastic is this?

I always wanted to use this fabric as drapes. It

was a problem getting the width I needed to do

that, but now this fabric can cover chairs, sofas, and

anything else you dream up.

Perfect in children's rooms, as

tablecloths and upholstery with no worry about

pulling the embroidery.

Find ordering information here from a

company called Spoonflower that does

some amazing custom color ways and will

print on a variety of fabrics.

This new source will be one to

keep on file!

Look who was checking out the shops on

South Dixie Highway!

Simon Doonan and Jonathan Adler along

with their wonder dog, Liberace.

Simon has a new book coming out this spring

that guarantees to be as entertaining as all

his previous tomes.

This is the wise fellow who said

"Make sure you have a

drag queen in your life."

Simon has made Lady Gaga a

holiday Godess with his guidance as

Barney's Creative Ambassador-At-Large

this season.

(What a fabulous title indeed.)

Meanwhile, Jonathan is rolling along with

new designs, merchandise and brilliant

home goods that will make your life more fun!

They were traveling with the adopted

member of the family, Liberace.

What a poser he is!

I think this was taken at their wonderful

place in Palm Beach.

Oh, it was so much fun chattering

just as fast as we could

to each other.

One of the lots in the upcoming

Elizabeth Taylor auction at Christie's

is an antique piece of jewelry made

of ivory Theater discs

from the 17th and 18th centuries.

I love ivory and the fact that these were all

collected and custom made into this fabulous piece

really "winked" at me.

I did not know much about these objects when

I first saw them years ago,

but when I heard that Miss Taylor

was bequeathed this gold and ivory necklace from

Edith Head,

my head was spinning!

She is one in a million and of course she

would collect something so chic.

It's said that they were very close and

Miss Taylor has been quoted:

If only this necklace could talk.

They estimate it to bring $1,500 to $2,000.

That's crazy!

I can't image it going for less than...

well, we shall see.

I received a gift from my sister that

I know you will want to think about as a

"don't go empty handed"

holiday gift.

Towels, aprons, and carry all bags that

are not only beautiful,

but the packaging is brilliant!

I love the designs and especially the graphics they

use in their line. Not to mention the lovely

linen fabrics that only get better

with each washing.

Estate Sale November 12 & 13th

The weather is great down south and next

weekend in Palm Beach

sounds to be a fab one for scavengers and shoppers.

Of course, I am working on the estate sale

for next Saturday and Sunday,

but there are flea markets and sales going

on everywhere.

But meanwhile, here are updated photos of where we are

in the tagging and organizing of

The LInda Burke Estate Sale.

If you have been to a few estate sales

you know a good

one from a well,

not as good as you hoped one.

This sale has it all.

My hands are covered in sharpie

marks from tagging!

High End Scavenger Estate Find

You just never know what is going to turn

up at a good estate sale.

I have been working day and night on a really

fabulous tag sale that is going to take place

in West Palm Beach

November 12 and 13th.

And looked what turned up in the

back of a closet from the

Linda R. Burke Estate.

This is a dress designed and made by

Lucy Christiana, Lady Duff Gordon,

professionally know as Lucile Ltd.

It must be at least 100 years old

by my research and is covered in real pearls!

Lady Duff survived with her husband and

secretary the sinking of

the Titanic in life boat number 1.

She was the first British designer to achieve international

notoriety and became known as the innovator

of the "mannequin parade,

the training of professional models"

and sent the era spinning with

slit skirts and low necklines.

In the back of the dress and around the bottom she had sewn into

little pockets tiny flowers which at one time were scented

and added to the wearer's allure.

The workmanship in this gown is just

breathtaking and you can imagine a

woman being the belle of the ball in this lovely gown.

This is such a great find and it just shows

what an adventure scavenging can be.

I am going to be working on a huge

estate of a decorator here in West Palm Beach.

The sale will be

November 12 - 13, 2011

at the home and the sorting,

pricing and merchandising begins today!

Linda Parrish Burke lived in NYC, Connecticut and Palm Beach.

Her collection of chairs,"salesman samples" and Staffordshire

is amazing. It will take us the entire month to just

sort, price and merchandise.

Everything Goes. Right down to the window

treatments and the hardware.

You can see the East Coast influences and the mix of Palm Beach touches.

My blogging will slow down, but I will update you with photos

and a final catalogue.

There will be a donation made to the

Susan Korman Cancer Society.

This is going to be a nice sale with loads of

Fresh Goods!

Okay, so it was a busy week but I did find some

interesting bargains around town.

First up...

I am getting ready to deliver several of

my pillow collections

to a new shop opening in

Delray Beach next week.

Consisting of in house decorators, antiques and home furnishings,

an amazing collection of lamps, chic children's

things for Grandmothers to buy,

hand picked clothing from tip to toe that

is pure Florida, artist's to commission,

hand painted furniture, mirrors and

terrific decoratives. It's going to

be a great source for designers and

shoppers.

I just took the day and went around to see what was

going on in my world.

First stop, The Design Center of The Americas.

This is the place that services all of south Florida and

it is huge and all the top design showrooms are here.

This fabric and chair was in the lobby and it was from

Andrew Martin in the UK.

Not only was the building going through a major renovation, but all

of the individual showrooms where deep discounting their goods off the

floor and putting out new Fall designs.

This design center services South America

and they shop here and think they

are at Walmart.

At Lee Jofa Lily Pulitzer was front and center.

I love this rug. It is from the Threads carpet

line and they are serious about texture

but they were incredibly soft.

I fell into Duralee Fabrics and found some fab sea creature

pieces that make great pillows for my

Empress of The Eye collections.

They just scream Florida!

Huge repeat on this fabric, but what

impact as drapes.

I loved this dragonfly pattern and it is also on my list of

fabrics for another pillow group. It is by

Thomas Paul for Duralee.

I could have spent all day in the John Rosselli showroom!

This is the latest collection from Kathryn Ireland,

(with the John Rosselli linen line included)

and it was so fresh looking.

Such a nice mix.

These chairs are covered in canvas and hand painted...

not only that, you can be color specific.

I love this showroom and I heard from

Kevin, Fabric Manager,

that the new shop

on 61st Street in NYC is amazing.

Put it on your list for next trip to NYC.

Finally, I stopped in at SOLD on Dixie, one of my favorite antique

shops in West Palm Beach.

Nikki had just gotten in this pair of

faux bamboo armoires.

They are from the 60's and the shelves pull out.

She thinks they stored folded

shirts in these cubbies and were used

as men's dressing closets.

In my world I saw them as perfect cabinets

to keep my stock of textiles in.

A girl can dream...

Nikki was asking $2,400 for the pair, and

her back is telling her that

they were made well and had some weight to them!

On the way home I drove down A1A

and it was the end of a

perfect day.

Season is just about to begin and the

beaches will be crowded again,

but for now they are

all mine.

Centennial Celebration for My Library!

Almost 100 years ago, 40 women with 40 books

organized the

Delray Beach Public Library.

The women of the Ladies Improvement Association

began in 1913 what is considered the hub

of the Delray Beach community today.

I love libraries!

And we all know they are not just

for books anymore.

In one day this year the
Delray Library

served 2,500 patrons

issued 36 new library cards

330 people used the computers

and provided WIFI for 400 wireless users.

With the upcoming Centennial Celebration of the

library being held on

April 11, 2013

Kimberley Trombly-Burmeister

was hired as the Development Director to help raise funds

and grow the endowment along with putting the candles on the

cake for this special occasion.

In Kimberley's first six months she has hosted and

participated in several engaging

events that have assisted in community awareness.

She also has many ideas and exciting moments in the works

for the Birthday Party!

This is a not for profit library, it takes funds from a partnership

of both public and private contributions.

Throughout the entire year of 2013 the
Library Centennial Committee
will sponsor events that promise to be fun, entertaining,
educational and lively.

As I learn more about what the Delray Beach Library has to offer I
