There’s nothing wrong with that advice. It’s actually reeks of good common sense – start early, finish early. The thing is that technique alone won’t work with everyone. Especially not with people who are not morning larks.

I should know because I was once deluded with the idea that I will be more productive if I get out of bed by 6 a.m. Like most of you Lifehackers, I’m always on the lookout for productivity hacks because I have a lot of things in my plate. I’m working full time as an editor for a news agency, while at the same time tending to my side business as a content marketing strategist. I’m also a travel blogger and oh yeah, I forgot, I also have a life.

I read a lot of productivity books and blogs looking for ways to make the most of my 24 hours. Most stories on productivity stress waking up early. So I did – and I was a major failure in that department – both in waking up early and finishing early.

via google.com

You can read more of this interesting article at http://www.lifehack.org/articles/productivity/manage-your-energy-so-you-can-m...

Obsessive Perfectionism: A Bad Habit that Can Be Broken

There are a few types of obsessive behaviors such as obsessive negativity and obsessive analysis, but there is one that is really at the root of these, and that one is called obsessive perfectionism. Which means in plain English. No more consuming for the sake of consumption alone.

In Dave’s case this enabled him to spend more time with his family, writing a book about it and much more.

via powerfultraits.com

How to Handle Interruptions Like a Ninja

On top are only the items I need to write: my Macbook, the wireless mouse and keyboard. Wires add to clutter and whenever possible I untether from them.

I disconnected and stored a separate 20-inch flat-screen monitor because I rarely used it. It’s in a 30-day holding pattern and if I don’t feel the need to bring it out of its box, I’ll sell it. Wake early. These days I wake without an alarm clock, whenever my body tells me to wake. Some days I’m up as early as 3am (yes, really). I recommend waking early, before the chaos brought forth by the sunrise, even if you have to set an alarm. Wake slowly. Take your time. Think. I write in the mornings in a quiet room with no distractions—no TV, no radio, no clocks, no noise: just me and my thoughts and the words on the page.

2. Schedule time to read. I love reading, especially literary fiction (e.g., David Foster Wallace, Don DeLillo, Denis Johnson, Jonathan Franzen, et al.). I don’t have a routine, and I read whenever I feel like it, but I used to schedule time to read (when I had a busy corporate schedule). It was a way for me to force myself into solitude: just me and my thoughts and the characters on the page.

3. Go for a walk. I walk all the time (even though Dayton, Ohio, isn’t the most walkable city on earth). Walking gives me uninterrupted time to think, time for myself, time inside my head to marshal my thoughts and emotions. Even if it’s a fifteen minute walk, it’s worth my time: just me and my thoughts and the city lights under lavender skies.

4. Exercise. I exercise every day. I do so mainly because my health is the most important thing in my life—without it nothing else matters. Sometimes I go to the gym. Sometimes I do push-ups, squats, and pull-ups under a sun-kissed sky in the park. Whatever I do, I have the opportunity to do it by myself in solitude: just me and my thoughts and my body in motion.

5. Get rid of distractions. This sounds like common sense, but we’re so distracted by the noise that common sense doesn’t seem all that common these days. But you can try to turn off your cellphone for a while; jettison your television; kill the Internet for a month; get rid of a few clocks; check email and social networks only once a day; and find ways to remove subtle distractions from your life. Konrath, Victorine Lieske, Nancy C. Jackson. If none of these names sounds familiar, just wait a few months. In the publishing industry, these authors are dominating the indie publishing movement, with Amanda Hocking recently announcing that she’s sold more than 1 million eBooks in under a year. She’s signing a four-book deal with a traditional publisher any day now, as the New York Times reports, with Big 6 publishers bidding more than $1 million for her work.

So what is indie publishing, and how are these writers coming out of nowhere to take an obscure corner of the publishing world by storm?

Kindle Book Publishing and Every Genre

Hocking’s story isn’t unique, though her success is the most extreme. an active member on Kindleboards.com, an online community for Kindle users and writers who publish eBooks on Amazon.com’s eReader device, Hocking published her first eBook in April 2010. a savvy marketer, the 26-year-old Minnesota native chronicles her journey at her blog, My Blood Approves.

While self publishing has a long history, the online version got its big push in the late ’90s, when M.J. Rose proved that an eBook could sell. Amazon.com’s Kindle eReader opened eBook publishing to anyone. using the Kindle Direct Publishing account, all you need is a manuscript and a nicely-designed cover. Amazon does the rest, and pays authors between 35 and 70 percent of the purchase price as royalties.

Kindleboards is not owned by Amazon.com, but this board has become the go-to place for writers seeking to publish on Kindle, Nook, Kobo, and other devices. The community is eclectic, with sci-fi, fantasy, romance, non-fiction, urban fantasy, Christian romance, thriller, mystery and historical fiction writers all intermingling, focused largely on the love of writing and the business of selling.

via kindle-3g-reviews.com

Might be of interest if you are an Indie Publisher

Dealing With People Who Nag By Nature. — Powerful Traits & Habits

It's a free, web-based reader for RSS feeds.
You can find feeds on nearly every Web site. RSS feeds offer a simplified view of Web content down to just text, pictures and videos--minus the site's style and formatting, Basically it helps me keep track of my favorite websites.
Google Reader constantly checks my favorite news sites and blogs for new content. Whether a site updates daily or monthly, I can be sure that I won't miss a thing.
I use it through an ipod touch app, a web browser and a mac app.
You can use it anywhere, for Google Reader is totally free and works in most modern browsers, without any software to install.
It's also loaded with easy ways to share your favorite stories with others.
I have been using it for years and I noticed my website collection has grown out of proportion.
Another thing that became apparent is that as interests change some websites/feeds I follow are no longer relevant to my current interests.
So it's high time to prune my collection into a lean collection of websites I love to follow.
It’ll cost a few hours to do so, but I’m pretty sure it will be worth it in respect to efficient future use.
http://www.flickr.com/x/t/0097009/photos/amj121/3146777390/

How to Use Evernote to Organize Your Writing
