Ideally, you want to use various methods to contact employers. 6 of the most popular resources and methods are:

*Contacting Employers Directly*

One of the most compelling ways to acquire a job is to contact employers directly, whether you know of an opening or not. First, create a check list for classifying the types of companies for which you'd like to work for. You might classify them by product line, size, growth outlook, or geographical locale.

The next step is to begin working on your resume. Send out your resume with a personalized letter. The letter should be addressed to a specific person, not just to the Personnel Office. After sending your resume and letter wait 2 or 3 days, then call the person you sent it to and let them know why you're calling. Speak with confidence, why you would be a good candidate for hiring, and what kind of position you're interested in.

*Networking*

Networking is the way of exchanging data, contacts, and services among individuals, groups, or corporations. Networking is a great method for finding a new or better job. Some of the groups and organizations you can contact or attend for carrying out your net working plans are...Industry and Trade Shows...Business Seminars...Conferences...Professional Organizations...

Career fairs is another important job-searching resource. With representatives and hiring personnel from various companies there, provides the opportunity to introduce yourself and have the chance to exhibit your skills and experience.

On-line newsgroups are an excellent place for networking, with discussion groups to suit practically every interest. These group participants generally include human resources agents and hiring supervisor, who lend their know-how by discussing the qualities they look for in employees.Taking part in on-line discussion groups brings a much larger exposure than, say, going to a meeting.

*Internet Job Search*

The Web is fast becoming the place to look for jobs on the Internet. There are many career resources on the Web that are devoted to job listings, with additional lists spring up every day. The Web has listings for job searchers of all backgrounds. Four of the major and most popular job-search sites on the Web are Career City, Career Mosaic, Job Options, and the Monster Board. Another way to find job listings on the Web is to perform a keyword search in search engine's like Google, or Yahoo. Use keywords like "employment opportunities", "job listings", or "positions available".

*CD-ROM Job Search*

Business directories on CD-ROM contain a vast amount of data for anyone searching for a job. Most furnish the same basic information; company name, description, address, phone and fax numbers, e-mail or Web site address, product and financial information. All directories list one or more contacts, so you know exactly whom to call for information or where to send your resume. The following is a list of 11 Databases on CD-ROM.

1. Today, employers choose to not only speak with your former employers, but also verify your credit, and conduct a criminal background check depending on the position for which you apply.

When it comes to checking your job references, employers will want to speak with two groups within your previous employer’s organization. First is Human Resources where they can find out about your employment dates, job title, salary, and your attendance. Second are people who have first hand knowledge of your actual job performance, your ability to communicate, meet deadlines and your interpersonal and leadership skills. Typically, the best people to address these types of qualities are those who have worked with you directly – supervisors, peers and subordinates. But, what are these individuals legally allowed to say?

Legal Reference vs. Slander

According to the Webster Dictionary, slander is also known as “oral defamation,” or telling one or more persons an untruth that will harm someone’s reputation. When one person slanders another, there may be legal consequences. However, a employer saying “he would not re-hire that person, or declare the said person is ineligible for re-hire” is not an attempt to harm someone’s reputation, it’s legal for an employer to provide such a negative reference of a current or past employee as long as the information is factually accurate

Because many companies are concerned about being dragged into a lawsuit, many employers choose to implement job reference-checking policies, which state that callers must be referred to human resources and that only limited information, such as dates of employment and job titles, will be verified.

How to Get the Job References You Want

The entire concept behind building job references is to provide a list of individuals that can attest to your character and job performance. So, your first step should be to create a list of past supervisors, peers and subordinates who can provide a job reference for you.

When you provide contact information, make sure to include each person’s proper name, job title, organization, and a phone number where they can be reached. E-mail address is another huge plus since many employers find it easier to communicate and get a higher response than by phone. E-mail request for references also provides the perspective employer a more detailed record.

How to Deal With Bad Job References

Most employers want to seek out information from past supervisors. So if your reference list includes your mom and some buddies, and maybe a fellow co-worker, understand that most employment verification forms request the supervisors name, title and a contact number to be reached. After all, everyone knows that the average job seeker is going to provide the names and numbers of those willing to endorse them. So, if you have skeletons in your closet, deal with them before your begin compiling job references.

According to an article by Alison Green, chief of staff for a medium-size nonprofit, you have three options:

Call your bad reference giving ex-boss and negotiate what he or she will say.

If you’re concerned your ex-boss is spreading misinformation, go straight to human resources and explain the situation.

Advise prospective employers in advance that the reference won’t be flatering, then be prepared to spend half the interview explaining why that is.

The whole concept of good job references is to present yourself in the best light possible. If you can’t offer up a long list of people who are willing to endorse you and all else has failed, you may wish to research some online job reference providers who may be able to help you.

Please comment below or email me.

High paying part-time employment.

Part Time Employment Where To Find High Paying Jobs

Where To Search For Part Time Employment

Many years ago part time employment was easy to find, with the economy going backwards people are struggling with ways to help pay the bills. There is an element of fear, which can make you nervous with the result being poor performance during the interview. Doing well in a job interview depends largely on being well prepared and in a good frame of mind. The job interview is the number one thing on which employers judge prospective employees; gauging whether or not the prospective hire would be capable of the duties entailed by the position. During the interview, the employer will try to get a sense of how you think and how this might apply to the position in question. This is why preparation is key - if you show up for a job interview with no idea how to deal with the demands of the job you are trying to land, then it will be no surprise if you fail to do well in the interview.

Preparing for a job interview is a two way street- as you prepare for the interview, the interviewer will also be preparing to interview you. The interviewer will usually choose some questions which are tailored to your experience and remember - you will be tested every step of the way during an interview. Try to anticipate tough questions which may be asked and prepare answers which refer back to your experience and your qualifications. Doing well in a job interview will have a lot to do with how well you can answer these sometimes tricky questions and how good of a job you can do of justifying your ability to do the job. Remember that you want to make choosing you for the job to seem like a decision which will make them look good.

Three questions you should be able to answer if asked are the old standbys "Why do you want this job?", "Why do you want to work for this company?" and "What is your current salary?". Others which are likely to be asked are about your skills, your achievements and your expectations from the position to which you are applying. Answer these questions in as much detail as you can manage and of course, honestly.

Have some examples to give along with your answers. Think carefully and choose some examples that highlight your skills and accomplishments. There are other factors which go into doing well in a job interview; for instance, try to build a rapport with your interviewer - if they enjoy talking to you, you are much more likely to get the job.

Be prepared when you walk in for a job interview. Have at least (preferably more) two copies of your resume, three references and if applicable, your portfolio. This is not just a conversation you'll be having, but you will have the opportunity to let the interviewer get to know you and make as strong of a case as possible for yourself.

One thing many interviewees forget is to have some questions prepared to ask your interviewer. Doing this will demonstrate interest in the company to your interviewer, which will be a point in your favor. One of the best experiences so far has been the technique employed by a popular search engine marketer. He used a (Google Ad words) Google's advertizing medium to sell himself. He basically used these Google Adwords, to target specific keywords and was able to attract the companies and CEO's he was trying to gun for. He targeted four of the companies, and before long, he was offered a position with two of the four.

Jobs for Sales Persons

First of all, you need to know the basics of being a sales person. To be a sales person, you would need to sell yourself. Think about the various ways you can sell a product, and then generate ideas that would help sell the product easily and faster. And when you have done these apply the methods on yourself first of all and see how good it gets. Whatever a company is doing, whether online or offline, they would need to have sales. It could be the direct contact sales, or sales by way of adverts in media houses as well as online. Whatever the case, you can put your thoughts in focus by asking yourself this important question: why does the company need you and for what good would you be to them?

Public Relations Jobs

Here again, the importance of promoting and selling yourself becomes emphasized. In fact, a recent example of this technique was demonstrated by a young student. The young man built himself a website, and this website proclaimed his talents, his skills and ideas for the world to see. He was also found at various locations during the rush hour, carrying a placard, on which the words "PR for FREE" were boldly written across. Also, on it was his web address. And before long he was able land the job he has always wanted, and also bagged some popularity in the local papers.

A job in a construction company

Seeking for a job in this sector can be a little more technical and needs a more direct approach.
