Amanda kept going outside to talk with Troy's skeleton. No one had the heart to tell her it was motion activated and not a real live skeleton. (Just kidding, Amanda)

The festivities started with some good ol' pumpkin carving. Or as tony likes to call it "punkin" carving. tony also likes "punkin" pie quite a bit.

There were some old friends...

and family (deb your costume was great - so scary!)

and new friends.

Tony ended the night by stealing his "punkin" back. (This is where kelly's memory of the night gets a little hazy.)

I took this a few weeks ago and never got around to posting it.

I find autumn's natural closing down process very comforting as I get older. When I was younger it seemed depressing. I'm really not sure what that says about me.

That Leaf

That leaf tries very hard to turn over
in very little wind. It lifts a corner
and settles on the ground exhausted, lifts
itself half over but, as the wind shifts,
falls face down eating mud. It hikes half up
in an attitude of prayer, then gives up.
Suddenly it turns fully over, sun
illuminating its dry belly. The sum
of all attempts is change, yet when change comes
it's finally so easy the world becomes
instantly rearranged, present
from past estranged, the old energy spent
in almost angry astonishment.
All the leaf sees is sky, appallingly wide,
though it always was so -- depleted, terrified
by sudden perspective, the outside brought inside,

Seriously, kayaking rocks. It's a great time, and I personally give it my "certified outdoor fun" stamp of approval. Now I just need to buy a kayak (a cheap kayak, we're not made out of money, people) and get Tony to sign up for swimming lsns. (That's code for "swimming lessons" for those not in the know.)

This is the underwater shipwreck we found. Fortunately, at that time I also possessed an UNDERWATER CAMERA to preserve that moment of discovery.
