Jimena Navarrete, a 22-year-old model from Mexico, was crowned Miss Universe in Las Vegas on Monday, extending Latin America's domination of the pageant to three consecutive years.The first runner-up was Miss Jamaica, Yendi Phillipps, while Miss Australia, Jesinta Campbell, was second runner-up. Miss Ukraine, Anna Poslavska came in fourth, ahead of Miss Philippines, Venus Raj.

Miss Mexico, Jimena Navarette, was named Miss Universe after competing in three contests: swimsuit, evening gown and "the final question."

This year's final question was "'what are your views on the problems of children using the Internet without proper supervision?" It was posed to the top five contestants — Mexico, Australia, Jamaica, Philippines and Ukraine.

Since the age of 15, the 5-foot-8-inch Jimena Navarrete, a self-described nature enthusiast who enjoys boating and motorcycles, has been working in the modeling world with gigs that include working the runway at fashion shows. 10^th Grade

As I sat there in English class, I stared at the girl next to me. She was my so called "best friend". I stared at her long, silky hair, and wished she was mine. But she didn't notice me like that, and I knew it.

After class, she walked up to me and asked me for the notes she had missed the day before and handed them to her. She said "Thanks" and gave me a kiss on the cheek. I wanted to tell her, I want her to know that I don't want to be just friends. I love her but I'm just too shy, and I don't know why.

11^th Grade

The phone rang. On the other end, it was her. She was in tears, mumbling on and on about how her love had broken her heart. She asked me to come over because she didn't want to be alone, so I did. As I sat next to her on the sofa, I stared at her soft eyes, wishing she was mine. After 2 hours, one Drew Berrymore movie, and three bags of chips, she decided to go to sleep.

Senior year

The day before prom she walked to my locker. "My date is sick," she said, "He's not going to go well, I didn't have a date." And in 7^th Grade, we made a promise that if neither of us had dates, we would go together just as "best friends". So we did. Prom night, after everything was over, I was standing at her front door step! I stared at her as she smiled at me and stared me with her crystal eyes. Graduation Day

A day passed, then a week, then a month. Before I could blink, it was graduation day. I watched as her perfect body floated like an angel up on the stage to get her diploma. I wanted her to be mine, but she didn't notice me like that, and I knew it. Before everyone went home, she came to me in her smock and hat, and cried as I hugged her. Many sufferers from heart attack fear that lovemaking will get them over excited and put them back in hospital, or even kill them, was misguided, experts said.
The American Heart Association's conference, in Washington DC, was told that it was safe to resume sex as soon as the patient feels better and can handle moderate exercise.Doctors, the conference heard, should encourage heart attack patients that sex after an attack was minimal.

A study presented at the conference found men and women were 1.3 to 1.4 times more likely to cut down on sex after a heart attack.But the study, of more than 1,600 patients, found less than half of men and a third of women were actually were given advice from their doctor about how to resume safe sexual activity.

Prof Stacy Tessler Lindau, who led the study, said fewer than 40 per cent of men and less than one in five women spoke about sex with their physicians in the year following their heart attack.

"If you can walk up two flights of stairs or do moderate exercise, then it's OK to have sex. The likelihood of dying during sexual intercourse, even among people who have had a heart attack, is really small.
"Sexuality is an important part of life throughout life, and most heart attack patients are sexually active."

Patients who were given doctors' advice about resuming sexual activity at hospital discharge were more were 30 per cent to 40 per cent more likely to engage in such activity over the following year, it found.

Depression and mood swings are common after a heart attack and can dampen interest in sex, but this usually goes away within three months, the conference heard.

Google on Tuesday introduced its most advanced phone to date — the Nexus One — and opened an online store to sell it directly to consumers, taking direct aim at Apple's iPhone, The phone, available at google.com/phone, costs $179 with a two-year contract from T-Mobile. Similar offers will be available from Verizon Wireless and British carrier Vodafone this year.

You can buy the phone without a contract for $529. The Nexus One runs an updated version of Google's Android operating system. Built by HTC from Google's direct specifications, it has a touch-screen and a fast processor. It includes a 5-megapixel camera for video and photos, a Global Positioning System (GPS), and stereo Bluetooth connection for headphones.Among gee-whiz features: speech dictation, which lets you speak and compose e-mail messages, Twitter tweets and Facebook posts without typing.

Google has lagged Apple in the mobile market. It has tried to be a major player with Android, which it offers free to manufacturers and wireless carriers. Some 20 Android phones are available, but few, with the exception of the Verizon Droid (by Motorola), have been big sellers.

The Nexus One could change that, says Charles Golvin, an analyst at Forrester Research: "It's the best Android to date."

Apple has sold nearly 30 million phones in 100 countries. Its U.S. carrier is AT&T. On Tuesday, it said iPhone and iPod Touch owners have downloaded 3 billion applications since it launched the App Store, a marketplace for 100,000 applications that do everything from play games to translate words.

A new study may help you to pick your type of booze. Bourbon gave drinkers a more severe hangover than vodka, report Damaris Rohsenow of Brown University and colleagues in an upcoming issue of Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research.

The researchers recruited 95 healthy young adults, ages 21 to 33, and gave them caffeine-free cola mixed with bourbon, vodka or tonic water. The drinking ended when participants' breath-alcohol concentrations hit an average of 0.11, well over the legal intoxication limit. Participants were then hooked up to sleep monitors, which record brain activity, and allowed to sleep it off. At 7 a.m. the next day, the researchers roused the subjects from bed (a wake-up that did not include coffee or aspirin) and asked them to rate the severity of their hangovers.

But vodka drinkers aren't off the hook: Drinkers' sleep suffered equally with both drinks, as did their performance on tasks requiring attention and quick responses. Understanding the lingering effects of alcohol after a night of heavy drinking is important for people who engage in safety-sensitive tasks, such as driving, while hung over Rohsenow says.

Overall, bourbon drinkers reported feeling worse than vodka drinkers, rating higher on scales that measure the severity of hangover malaise, including headache, nausea, loss of appetite and thirst. It should come as no surprise that alcohol drinkers said they felt much worse than those who had drunk only tonic water.

One reason for the different effects of vodka and bourbon, could be that bourbon contains 37 times more toxic compounds than vodka does, including nasty organic molecules such as acetone, acetaldehyde, tannins and furfural. A good rule of thumb for liquors, she says, is that the clearer they are, the less of these substances they contain.

Both the bourbon drinkers and vodka drinkers slept poorly compared to the nondrinkers, the team found. The next morning, when the participants performed cognitive tests that required attention and quick reaction times, the drinkers performed worse than the nondrinkers, but the type of alcohol had no effect on performance. Both groups of drinkers were impaired equally.

The finding adds to the growing body of evidence that being slightly overweight may have no influence on life expectancy, but being severely overweight trims years off people's lives.
Lead author Eric Finkelstein says being moderately overweight may not affect people's life span because there are so many effective treatments to manage the health problems that often come with extra pounds, such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes.

The photo currently making the rounds on the Internet and on TV clearly shows President Obama checking out a girl—Mayara Tavares, 16, of Brazil—at the G8 conference. After close scrutiny of the "Obama looking at a girl" photo, the only thing that can be said in the president's defense is that he wasn't leering as badly as French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

The "Obama looking at girl" photo certainly looks bad, said Lynn Sweet in the Chicago Sun-Times. But if you look at ABC News' video, you can see what President Obama was really doing as Mayara Tavares—who was identified by some news outlets as Mayora Tavares—walked by. "Conclusion: Obama was not looking; Sarkozy maybe."

Google will launch Google Chrome OS

Google's blog announces a natural extension of the Chrome project , Google Chrome OS, which is an open source, lightweight operating system that will initially be targeted at netbooks. Google Chrome OS will run on both x86 as well as ARM chips.The software architecture is simple — Google Chrome running within a new windowing system on top of a Linux kernel.All web-based applications will automatically work and new applications can be written using your favorite web technologies. And of course, these apps will run not only on Google Chrome OS, but on any standards-based browser on Windows, Mac and Linux thereby giving developers the largest user base of any platform.

As people use more and more web applications, the operating system becomes less important and it makes no sense to pay for it. The desktop mail client could be replaced by Gmail, the calendaring application could be replaced by Google Calendar, the office suite has lightweight alternatives: Google Docs and Zoho, it makes more sense to use an online feed reader like Google Reader, your scientific calculator is less powerful than Wolfram Alpha and you'll rarely need a video player when you have YouTube, Hulu and other video sites.

Chris Brown Apologizes For Rihanna Assault In New Video

In a video that appeared online late Monday afternoon (July 20), Chris Brown has apologized publicly for the first time about the domestic altercation that took place between him and Rihanna earlier this year.

In the clip, obtained by MTV News, Brown, dressed in a red long-sleeve shirt with buttons on the front, spoke directly to the camera and apologized to his former girlfriend and his fans.

"I've told Rihanna countless times and I'm telling you today, I'm truly, truly sorry that I wasn't able to handle the situation both differently and better," Brown said.

At the beginning of the two-minute clip, Brown explains that his attorneys advised him to not speak about the situation until the legal ramifications were settled. But Brown said that ever since the February incident, he's wanted to speak about the matter. The singer expressed his "deepest regret" over the fight and said he "accepts full responsibility" for the incident.
