Ο Gaz Coombes (ή κατά κόσμον Gareth Michael Coombes) είναι ο άλλοτε τραγουδιστής και κιθαρίστας των σπουδαίων Indie Rockers Supergrass, οι οποίοι διαλύθηκαν το 2010.
Ο Coombes λοιπόν ακολουθεί πλέον προσωπική καριέρα και ο φετινός του πολύ καλός δίσκος World's Strongest Man, περιέχει μεταξύ άλλων αυτό εδώ το διαμαντάκι (Deep Pockets). Αγνό βρετανικό Indie, με γκάζι και μια τζούρα από garage. Δυνατό πολύ, το ακούμε στο REPEAT, απολαμβάνοντας το επίσημο Clip του..

Δεν περίμενα τέτοιο τραγούδι από τους The Decemberists, αλλά είμαστε στο 2018 και μόνο υγεία είναι να πειραματίζεται μία μπάντα με τη μουσική της. Ειδικά όταν το κάνει καλά. Το "Severed" έχει Synthpop ρυθμό, ένα λίγο ψυχεδελικό riffaki και μας αρέσει πολύ πολύ.

Στα όμορφα νέα της ημέρας, οι πολυαγαπημένοι Βρετανοί ανακοίνωσαν πως θα επισκεφτούν για πρώτη φορά τη χώρα μας και συγκεκριμένα στις 6 Ιουλίου στο Rockwave Festival!

The Anatomy Of Melancholy: Η μπαντάρα από τον Καναδά μας έρχεται για ένα live στην Αθήνα, στις 29 Απριλίου και απλά θα περιμένουμε στωικά να έρθει η μέρα εκείνη, λιώνοντας παράλληλα τη δισκογραφία τους. Μέσα στο 2017 κυκλοφόρησαν τον 6ο δίσκο τους Luciferian Towers και βασικά προτείνω να τρέξετε από τώρα για το εισιτήριο σας, γιατί η παράσταση θα είναι σίγουρα μια επική εμπειρία (και πιθανώς sold out). Το "Mladic" είναι το αγαπημένο μου ~~κομμάτι~~ έπος τους και θα πείσει και αυτούς που ακόμη δεν έχουν μυηθεί στις Post-rock μουσικάρες, πως πρέπει να καταπιαστούν asap.
Η συναυλία θα γίνει στο Fuzz Club και υπάρχουν ακόμη εισιτήρια των 29€ προς προπώληση στα Viva.gr, Sevenspots, Mediamarkt, Reload, Ευρυπίδης, Viva Kiosk (Σύνταγμα & Τεχνόπολη), Metal Era, Syd Records, Rhythm Records, Sound Effect Reco.

Sounded like the truth, but it's not the truth today:

Δε μπορώ να προσποιηθώ το φανατικό ακροατή της δισκογραφίας του Leonard Cohen και βασικά αισθάνομαι άβολα και μόνο που προσπαθώ να γράψω δύο προτάσεις για αυτόν. Ο σεβασμός μου όμως είναι δεδομένος και μπορεί να μην έχω εντρυφήσει όπως θα έπρεπε στην υπέροχη μουσική του, ο πρόσφατος θάνατος του ωστόσο (7 Νοεμβρίου, 2016) ήταν μια αφορμή να μπω στο μαγικό κόσμο των στίχων και των μελωδιών του. Από το εμβληματικό Songs Of Leonard Cohen του 1967 και μετά από συνολικά 14 studio δίσκους, με τον καθένα να κατέχει τη δική του ξεχωριστή αξία, φτάσαμε στο τελευταίο και περσινό You Want It Darker, το οποίο έλιωσα πρόσφατα και αγαπάω ήδη. Δεν είμαι ο κατάλληλος να κρίνω αν είναι όντως ένα από τα αριστουργήματα του ή αν ο θάνατος του Cohen το "μεγάλωσε". Ακόμα όμως κι αν έγινε έτσι, κομμάτια όπως το "It Seemed The Better Way", αρκεί για να μας θυμίζει, γιατί ο κος Cohen είναι ένας Θρύλος της Τέχνης.

That girl on my head: Μεγάλη αδυναμία μου οι Θεσσαλονικείς, τους οποίους θεωρώ πολύ υποτιμημένους και παράλληλα την ζωντανή απόδειξη πως η Ελληνική μουσική σκηνή έχει σημαντικούς καλλιτέχνες να αναδείξει. Σίγουρα η παραγωγικότητα τους δεν τους βοηθά ώστε να μένουν στο προσκήνιο, αλλά λίγη σημασία έχει αυτό, αφού μας προσφέρουν τόσο ωραίες μουσικές.

Η μπάντα σχηματίστηκε το 2004 και πέρσι κυκλοφόρησαν τον τρίτο τους ουσιαστικά δίσκο. Σε αυτούς προσθέτουμε και το The World is over του 2014 που περιέχει νέα αλλά και παλαιότερα τραγούδια της δισκογραφίας τους.

Το The Past is already Here είναι μία ακόμη ποιοτική δουλεία. Τα Ανατολίτικα στοιχεία, τα οποία χαρακτήριζαν τους πανέμορφους πρώτους δύο δίσκους τους, παίζουν και πάλι σημαντικό ρόλο στο χαρακτήρα των κομματιών και είναι ίσως λίγο πιο διακριτικά. Η ψυχεδέλεια και οι proggresive συνθέσεις όμως, είναι ακόμη η βάση και των νέων κομματιών, ενώ σίγουρα διαφαίνεται και μία πιο alternative κατεύθυνση. Χαρακτηριστικό παράδειγμα είναι το "That Girl" που είναι απλό, όμορφο, ίσως το πιο "radio friendly" τραγούδι που έχουν κυκλοφορήσει, αλλά και ιδανικό για να γίνεται χαμούλης στα ούτως ή άλλως εξαιρετικά live τους.

Mr Creosote: Ο King Creosote είναι ο κατά κόσμον τραγουδιστής και τραγουδοποιός Kenny Anderson. Γεννημένος στη Σκωτία ο πενηντάχρονος πλέον καλλιτέχνης απαριθμεί σχεδόν 40 δισκογραφικές δουλειές.
Πέρσι κυκλοφόρησε το πιο πρόσφατο album του με τίτλο Astronaut Meets Appleman, που μας άρεσε πολύ. Ένα από τα κομμάτια που ξεχωρίζουν είναι το ρυθμικό "Wake up to this", που μεταδίδει μια χαρούμενη και παράλληλα νοσταλγική διάθεση.

Just while love remembers: Χάζευα πρόσφατα τα τελευταία live που έκαναν φέτος το Καλοκαίρι οι Maccabees με αφορμή τη διάλυση τους -την οποία εδώ και μήνες είχαν ανακοινώσει- και συνειδητοποίησα πόσο πολύ θα λείψουν από την Indie σκηνή οι αγαπημένοι Βρετανοί. Μας χάρισαν τέσσερις αξιοπρεπέστατους δίσκους, εξέλιξαν τον ήχο τους, μένοντας ταυτόχρονα πιστοί στο indie rock ιδίωμα, όπως το ζήσαμε κατά τη διάρκεια των 00s και μας χάρισαν αρκετά διαμαντάκια. Το "Unknown" είναι ένα πολύ υποτιμημένο κομμάτι τους και σίγουρα ένα από τα αγαπημένα μου. Μουσική που σε ταξιδεύει. Τόσο απλά και όμορφα.

If I scream at the top of my lungs, Will you hear what I don't say?:
Πανέμορφο τραγούδι από το φετινό δίσκο των ταλαντούχων Λονδρέζων, που μπορεί να μην κυκλοφόρησαν το album της χρονιάς, απέδειξαν ωστόσο για μία ακόμη φορά, πως αξίζουν της αναγνώρισης που απολαμβάνουν. Το "Performance" δε στηρίζεται στις ενορχηστρώσεις του, παρά μόνο στη σαγηνευτική φωνή της Ronnie και τους υπέροχους στίχους του. Απλά και και διακριτικά βρίσκεται στα ομορφότερα κομμάτια της χρονιάς.

The odyssey, came down, kind of hard on me:
Χρειάζονται συστάσεις? Ο Alex Turner (Arctic Monkeys) & ο Miles Kane είναι ουσιαστικά ορόσημα σε αυτό που ονομάζουμε Βρετανικό Indie rock από τα 00s και μετά. Δημιούργησαν το 2007 το project group Last Shadow Puppets και με τη δισκάρα The Age Of Understatement του 2008, μας ανάγκασαν να αναμένουμε με αγωνία τον διάδοχο, που ήρθε τελικά οκτώ ολόκληρα χρόνια αργότερα. To περσινό Everything You Have Come To Expect όμως δεν ανταποκρίθηκε στις προσδοκίες μας τελικώς και ήταν επιεικώς μέτριος δίσκος. Είχε ωστόσο τις πολύ καλές στιγμές του. Το "Used To Be My Girl" έχει Indie rock σφραγίδα και είναι σίγουρα μία από αυτές.

Dreams, like coins down a well: Ο Radical Face είναι ουσιαστικά ο τριάντα-πεντάχρονος Αμερικανός τραγουδιστής/τραγουδοποιός/μουσικός Ben Cooper. Με το παρόν σχήμα έχει κυκλοφορήσει 5 δίσκους, με πιο πρόσφατο το εικονιζόμενο The Family Tree:The Leaves του 2016. Ουσιαστικά πρόκειται για το τελευταίο μέρος της τριλογίας The Family Tree και διαδέχθηκε το The Roots (2011) και The Branches (2013). Και τα τρία κινούνται στο χώρο, του indie folk/pop και τα τρία είναι υπέροχα. Στην ιστορία του The Leaves πρωταγωνιστεί η Οικογένεια "The Northcotes" ξεδιπλώνοντας μας τη ζωή τους. Από το δίσκο ξεχωρίζω τα "Rivers In The Dust", "The Road To Nowhere", "Bad Blood" και τέλος το αγαπημένο και μοναδικό "Everything Costs" που ακούμε παρακάτω. Μόλις το ακούσετε και το λατρέψετε και εσείς, ασχοληθείτε και με τον υπόλοιπο δίσκο αλλά και γενικά με τον ταλαντούχο κύριο B. Cooper, γιατί το αξίζει πραγματικά.

There is a light that never goes out: Έχουν πλέον περάσει δύο μήνες και φυσικά δε μπορείς να πεις ότι το έχουμε χωνέψει ακόμη. Ούτε λίγο.

Το video clip των Linkin Park για το "One more light" είναι αφιερωμένο στον Chester και εμείς χαζεύουμε, συγκινούμαστε, απορούμε και ανησυχούμε...

Στα υπόλοιπα νέα, η μπάντα ανακοίνωσε το πρώτο live της μετά Bennington εποχής των Linkin Park, που θα γίνει στο Los Angeles, στις 27 Οκτωβρίου με συμμετοχή πολλών καλλιτεχνών, φυσικά προς τιμήν του.

There's sugar on your soul: Τώρα που πλέον πέρασαν αρκετά χρόνια και δοκιμάστηκε αρκετά (στα αυτιά μας), ήρθε η ώρα να κάνουμε μία ειλικρινή παραδοχή για το "Sugar". Δεν είναι απλά ένα "καλό single" (σ.σ. δίσκος Weight of your love, 2013). Είναι ΚΟΜΜΑΤΑΡΑ, με στιχάρες. Ο Tom Smith (όπως αναμενόταν) το απογειώνει με τη φωνάρα του, αλλά το "special" που τελικά το κάνει να ξεχωρίζει οφείλεται σε... αυτό το μπάσο-ρυθμό, που μπαίνει και σε "παίρνει" μαζί του καθ όλη τη διάρκεια του και του δίνει μία ατελείωτη ένταση. Αναπόσπαστο μέρος πλέον των set list της μπάντας, αξίζει πραγματικά να δείτε και να ακούσετε αυτήν την εκτέλεση από το περσινό Best Kept Secret Festival στην Ολλανδία, όπου όλη η μπάντα και κυρίως ο χαρισματικός T.Smith δίνουν ένα εξαιρετικό performance.

Look outside at the raincoats coming: Μας έχει φάει η αναμονή για το νέο δίσκο των Vampire Weekend και εκεί που νομίζαμε πως είχε μείνει στον πάγο για λίγο, ήρθε ο Ezra Koenig (κιθάρα, φωνητικά) να μας αναθερμάνει με δηλώσεις του, λέγοντας πως είναι έτοιμο το 80% του διάδοχου του Modern Vampires of the City (2013). Δεν θα το περιμένουμε λογικά μέσα στο 2017, γιατί όπως ο ίδιος ο Koening είπε "το 20% είναι πάντα το πιο δύσκολο". Δεν πειράζει όμως! Πάμε να φτιάξουμε τη μέρα μας με το τραγούδι-ύμνο που τους έβαλε στις καρδιές μας βαθιά. Προτιμήστε το ένα πρωινό που δε θα ξυπνάτε να πάτε για δουλειά. Σκοπός είναι να χορεύετε στον καθρέφτη δέκα λεπτά αργότερα. Δοκιμάστε το!

One day at a time: Μπήκε για τα καλά στις ζωές μας, με το δεύτερο δίσκο του Love & Hate και το ομώνυμο υπέροχο κομμάτι (Click). Τον θαυμάσαμε με το γεμάτο νόημα, αλλά και soul ρυθμό "Black Man In A White World". Αυτό εδώ όμως είναι αξεπέραστο. 11 λεπτά που απλά ευχαριστιέσαι τη μουσική, χαζεύεις το εξαιρετικό παίξιμο αυτών των ταλαντούχων μουσικών. Οι "Φλοϋδικές" επιρροές είναι διάχυτες και αποδίδονται εντυπωσιακά. Ναι, αυτό είναι το ευαίσθητο σημείο μας και παρότι οι στίχοι του είναι "πικροί" και απαισιόδοξοι, σε γεμίζει τόσο όλο αυτό που έχεις ακούσει, που σου αφήνει ένα οξύμωρο χαμόγελο. Εξαιρετικό κομμάτι από έναν -ήδη- αγαπημένο καλλιτέχνη, που έχει δείξει πως μπορεί να κάνει σπουδαία πράγματα και να μείνει στη μουσική ιστορία. Μένει να το αποδείξει.

Where is the magic?: Εάν γνωρίζεις τους Blur μόνο από το "Song 2" και το "Girls and Boys", τότε ίσως δεν έχεις συνειδητοποιήσει γιατί είναι μία από τις κορυφαίες μπάντες της σύγχρονης rock σκηνής.

Το "Caramel" είναι μία από τις "ονειρικές" στιγμές της μουσικής ιδιοφυΐας που λέγεται Damon Albarn και της παρέας του. Και ναι, ~~μπορεί~~ πρέπει να σου αλλάξει τη γνώμη για την αξία των σπουδαίων Βρετανών. Ένα αριστούργημα σε ένα δίσκο διαμάντι. Επειδή οι ζωντανές εκτελέσεις του είναι το ίδιο "δυνατές" με τη studio, το ακούμε έστω και λίγο κουτσουρεμένο σε διάρκεια από το live δίσκο Parklive του 2012.
