Hello to all my Lovely Blog Reading Friends,

Well 2011 sure was a whirlwind of changes around here....
Hubby self employed, Etsy business running, son's last year in middle school,
family health changes and oh yes,

I took a new day job....
My new day job is as a para-professional in a VPK class (actually 2 classes)
with 38 four and 5 year olds. I have always loved working with kids and though it
surely doesn't pay very well and it totally wears me out every week,
I feel grateful to have such a rewarding job that makes such a difference in the
lives of these young ones.

Though they are a challenge many days, they are certainly a blessing too.

Now, let's see how I can balance jewelry making with this new schedule....

In the Pit?

I flicked on the radio while I was driving yesterday and into the middle of a radio program. I wish I could tell you what program it was or who was speaking as he was just wrapping up, however, I missed that part....

but what he said in his wrap up really spoke to me. Read on and tell me if it speaks to you

He told this story:

I decided to take a walk along a certain road one day, and I fell into a deep dark pit. It took me a long time to get out. It wasn't my fault.

I decided to take a walk on that same road another day and I fell into that same pit. It took me a long time to get out. Why didn't I see it? Maybe it is my fault.

I decided yet again to walk that road and I fell into the pit again!!! I got out a little fater this time. It is my fault.

One more time I decided to walk that road and this time I saw the pit and walked around it.

Finally, I decided to walk a different road.......

We all seem to have some pit filled roads in our lives and why oh why do we continue to go down those same roads knowing those pits are there? Isn't it time to take a different path?

I will never forget October 1, 1982 or February 25, 2004. These are the dates that my precious Momma Kitty entered and left my life. She was the most special fur baby and companion I ever had. She was with me through thick and thin- through some wonderful ife experiences and some pretty awful ones- she was always by my side with a snuggle and a purr.

I loved how she used to sleep curled up against my neck and heaven forbid, I have a yogurt to myself! It was the only people food she liked but boy if I opened one it was like most cats that hear the can opener. She'd bolt for my lap and try to stick her paw in the cup to pull it to her. I guess she could smell it in the air. So here I'd sit, a spoonful for me, a spoonful for her..and so on.

I used to say she was living out her 9 lives because she had some strange accidents, like the time she broker her tail in the fence and it had to be amputated.

The year she passed was also the year we had 3 major hurricanes hit here within 6 weeks. A traumatic year to say the least. My son was in 1st grade and I remember that day, she looked so bad and I could see she was struggling. I took my son to school and then loved on her and held her in my arms. I took her to the cat hospital but she didn't quite make it. I am glad her last memory was a loving one.

When I picked my son up from school that day, I told him. He looked at me so sweetly and said "Don't worry Mom, she's in kitty heaven right now, playing with toys and chasing lizards. Got to love that boy of mine!!

It has been miserably hot and steamy and many of the veggies in my little
garden are kaput. Thank goodness for hardy herbs.

I am always amazed at where my clients find me!
Just looking at some of my sales records while prepping for taxes,
it dawned on my to map out where they live and I was surprised
by how mant states I have mailed jewelry, artwork, and spa products to.
All those states in gold are home to my wonderful clients!
(Thank you Robin for the link to this mapping website :D)

Not showing on this map is the fact that I have also had lovely people
from Canada, Ireland, Australia and even Moscow, Russia shop with me.

The wonderful woman in Russia told me the necklace she purchased is the finest piece of handmade jewelry she owns. Have to say, that made my day!!

Truely the internet has had a profound inmpact on our lives ....

Celebrating Womanhood - UWIB Blog Hop

What does womanhood mean to me? It is a never ending process of creativity, growth and new beginnings.
Wow, that almost waxed philosophical didn't it? But, it is the truth for when we stop growing, we wither and die.

For sometime now, I've been pondering this idea, as I enter my 50's and start thinking about what my next path might be. I have dabbled in so many different creative things over the years...and thruth be told some not so creative things... that my house is stuffed with too many crafties. I can't bear to part with any of them, I cry but I have come to the realization that this may just be a new stage of growth for me.
If my Mom were to read this, I am sure she would see herself in this part of me....I can say I come by it honestly.. Thanks Mom. It pleases me to have passed on creativity to my son too-- hopefully I don't pass on too much of the pack rat gene :)

But celebrating womahood is so much more. Think, who are your deepest and best friends? I don't get to see my BBF as much as I'd like since we now live in different towns but I do know that I can pick up the phone even if a month or two has gone by and in minutes we'll be in thick of it laughing, crying and chatting picking up where we left off just as though it were yesterday. We are each other's cheerleaders but are not afraid to be brutally honest when it needs doing either. I love her like she was my sister... Oh wait, she is my sister!!

I've also "met" some wonderful lady friends in our Unique Women in Business etsy group and I have to say, even though I've never actually laid eyes on any of them, they are some of the best and most supportive friends a gal could ask for.

One of the things I really enjoy about Etsy is all the friends, teams, and artists I have met. They are in far flung places and I would likely never have met any of these fabulous friends any other way!

What I am up to today...Genealogy / Family history and Stories

As part of my hobby quest to document my family heritage, I am transcribing Court ordered road records from the 1790's while my DH and son are out doing their man things.

It can be slow going what with the handwriting, the faded entries, the age of the documents with their assorted creases and tears. Still in an era when many people didn't read and write, I am thankful to have them. I've even found a few of my ancestors in them.

On Valentine's eve, I left cards and sweet little present on the table for the 2 loves of my life to find at breakfast. On Valentine's Day, those 2 wonderful guys let me sleep in a little...got to love those two.
My son couldn't stand the suspense anymore though and woke me up so he could show me what he made me for Valentine's...

Yep, It's a Lego Valentine.....

Then wonderful hubster got in on the act...

Sigh...I love those guys of mine!!

On the wrong side of the Needle ??

Did you know there is a right side and a wrong side to a sewing needle? Don't believe me?
Just take a peak at the needle's eye under a magnifying glass and you will notice that one side is more beveled than the other...making that side easier to thread...
Next time you are frustrated or going blind while trying to thread a needle, just turn it around and try the other side...
Oh, also, lick the thread and the needle eye as well....It really does work
Just a few facts about Sewing Needles
•Sharps are medium-length needles with small, rounded eyes. The larger the number, the finer the needle.( Just like wire gauge...)These are considered a general all-purpose hand-sewing needle.

•Betweens are short needles with small round eyes for fine quilting and detailed handwork. The larger the number, the finer the needle and of course, the finer the stitch. Again, Just like wire gauge...
•Embroidery/Crewel: For all types of embroidery and crewelwork, these needles with their long, oval eyes can handle yarn or several strands of embroidery floss.
•Large Eye is a needle that is actually two thin flat wires bonded at both tip ends of this sharp needle. You open the two flat wires to thread any thickness of thread making it foolproof (and so easy!) to thread. I love these.
•Beading needles are for picking up several beads or seed pearls at a time before attaching to project. They are long & fine with a small, round eye so they can pick up even the smallest of the seed beads
•Long Darners have large eyes and long shaft make the stitches line up perfectly. The shaft is perfectly straight until the point, so all your stitches will stay nice and even.
•Leather has a 3 sided chisel point so it can easily pierce through leather and suede.
•Silk Ribbon needles have large eyes and sharp tips for stitching into fabric so can be used with cardstock and lighter weight papers.

To be sure, I left out a few but these are some I use.

Almost lost vacation- South Dakota 2004

Now Found!!!!

It was 101 degrees when we landed in
Rapid City, SD but the next day, it snowed....

We love to visit the National Parks of our Great Country! Many years ago, 2004 actually, we took a family vacation to South Dakota. We made a great big circle tour and saw lots of wonderful landmarks, wildlife and Native Amercian settlements and treasures. While I have never forgotten that trip, it was only recently that I came across the pictures again..pictures that I thought were long lost with a computer crash from years ago. To my great relief, I found them in a totally unrelated file..Yipee!

The Husband store....

The Husband Store

A store that sells new husbands has opened in New York City , where a

woman may go to choose a husband. Among the instructions at the entrance

is a description of how the store operates:
You may visit this store ONLY ONCE! There are six floors and the value of the products increase as the shopper ascends the flights. The shopper

may choose any item from a particular floor, or may choose to go up to

the next floor, but you cannot go back down except to exit the building!

So, a woman goes to the Husband Store to find a husband. On the first

floor the sign on the door reads:

Floor 1 - These men Have Jobs

She is intrigued, but continues to the second floor, where the sign

says:

Floor 2 - These men Have Jobs & Love Kids.

'That's nice,' she thinks, 'but I want more.'

So she continues to ascend. The third floor sign reads:

Floor 3 - These men Have Jobs, Love Kids, and are Extremely Good

Looking.

'Wow,' she thinks, but feels compelled to keep going.

She goes to the fourth floor and the sign reads:

Floor 4 - These men Have Jobs, Love Kids, are Drop-dead Good Looking and

Help With Housework.

'Oh, mercy me!' she exclaims, 'I can hardly stand it!'

Still, she goes to the fifth floor and the sign reads:

Floor 5 - These men Have Jobs, Love Kids, are Drop-dead Gorgeous, Help

with Housework, and Have a Strong Romantic Streak.

She is so tempted to stay, but she goes to the sixth floor, where the

sign reads:

Floor 6 - You are visitor 31,456,012 to this floor. There are no men on

this floor. This floor exists solely as proof that women are impossible

to please. Thank you for shopping at the Husband Store. (scroll and

PLEASE NOTE:

To avoid gender bias charges, the store's owner opened a new Wives Store

just across the street.

The first floor has wives that love sex.

The second floor has wives that love sex and have money and like beer.

The third, fourth, fifth and sixth floors have never been visited.

Wearable Art~ Gift from the sea

Many distractions later...I finally got the new bracelet finished and listed.
It was a tough one to photograph well. I think I took about 30 shots of it
trying to get a good angle and to show the whole work. Photographing jewelry
has been a real challenge for me.....but I'm learning...

Right brain exercise for creativity ~ Spark

One way to ramp or respark your creativity is to engage your right brain. After spending most of the morning on Tax prep stuff, I really needed a spark. There are a lot of really awesome creative bloggers out there and it is all to easy to spend hours and hours reading them......you know what I'm talking about.
Wait, you say...What do you mean by right brain?.....
Different sides are our brains control different activities and functions
The Left Brain is Logical, Sequential, Rational, Analytical, Objective and Looks at parts.
The Right Brain is Random, Intuitive, Holistic, Synthesizing, Subjective and Looks at wholes.

Gift from the Sea~ a work in progress

Whe I was a child, my Mother took me to lots of museums. Sometimes I thought it was boring but many times there were amazing inspirations there. Her love of art and craft have always been an inspiration to me.

On one vist, I recall seeing a particularly fascinating Japanese painting of the oean. I love oriental art. While searching the internet for it recently, I came across this amazing version of it which is completely made from bits of plastic. It has an amazing message.....

by supernova17 This triptych is based on the famous Japanese painting, “The Great Wave off Kanagawa”. Instead of paint, the colors are composed of 2.4 million pieces of plastic - the estimated amount of plastic that enter the world’s ocean’s every hour!

The paitining itself inspired me to start thinking about a new project...

Here's a glimpse of it as seen through my working magnifying glass

As you might imagine, I can only sit for so long looking through a magnifying glass and so I have to give my eyes regular sight breaks...
not to mention breaks that come with life....dinner, laundry, family, homework helper, scouts, etc.
I hope to complete this new cuff sometime this week. The little hand beaded goldfish is rising up out of the waves to deliver his gift, a pearl, to you.
Still have to finish the rest of the waves, create a closure and back it with a lovely soft felt...
