A work of ink and Brush Pen (similar to Pentel). This summer (in Australia the summer goes from the 1st of December to the last day of February) has been raining and raining, we really didn't had many chances to go to the beach during the weekends. This is the beautiful Manly beach. You can see the ferry coming in the center of the image.

Trabajo de tinta y pincel (parecido a un Pentel). Este verano (en Australia el verano va desde el 1 de diciembre al último día de febrero) no ha parado de llover., así que no hemos tenido muchas oportunidades de ir a la playa. Esta es la preciosa playa de Manly. En el centro de la imagen se puede ver el ferry acercándose.

Travelling around Japan

I kept a Carnet de Voyage, a Travel Sketchbook in my trip to Japan. I already post most of my drawings on location, but there are also the little ones, the ones in the train, tram, metro or Shinkansen (bullet train) around the country (or at least half of the Houshu island).

En Japón mantuve un cuaderno de viaje. Ya he subido a este blog la mayoría de mis dibujos in situ, pero aquí subo un botón de los pequeños que me acompañaban en trenes, tranvías, metro y el Shinkansen (tren bala) a través del país (o al menos de la parte sur de la isla Houshu).

This scene resume perfectly my trip to Japan. I went there for the Manga. For the technology. For the occasional temple. I went there for Pikachu, Mario and Ranma. For Evangelion and in the search of the street where Nobita Nobi used to receive (or borrow) the tricks from Doraemon. But at the end, It was just me, my wife, and a brush. Japan is a place to loose yourself, completely.

This is one of the oldest landscape gardens of Japan, designed by Muso Soseki in the fourteenth century. It's listed as World Cultural Heritage Site.

Uno de los jardines más antiguos de Japón, Patrimonio Mundial de la Humanidad, diseñados por Muso Soseki en el siglo XIV.

Sydney International Airport

After two months with me, today I said good bye to my mum in the Sydney International Airport. She's flying back to Barcelona. She's so brave to fly all by herself 28 hours. I was very happy having her in our place, and now I'm sad to see her go. We haven't seen each other for three years, and now all the sudden... Anyway, I'm going to Spain for a month in April, so will be time to catch up again.

Atomic Dome, Hiroshima, Japan

This is the only surviving building after the American Atomic attack in 1945 against the city of Hiroshima. The bomb exploded in mid air over the dome, that's why the walls weren't disintegrated. The city has been completely rebuild so far. But near the Peace Memorial and the river, this building stands still symbolizing all what is wrong with mankind, and at the same time, the rebirth that comes with each new generation. It is also a reminder, of the high chances of disappear as a specie.

Este es el único edificio que sobrevivió (y no fue derruido después) al ataque atómico americano contra Hiroshima en 1945. La bomba explotó en el aire, relativamente cerca del edificio, pero sobre este, por lo que las paredes no se desintegraron. La ciudad ha sido completamente reconstruida. Cerca del Memorial por la Paz y el rio, este edificio simboliza lo peor de la raza humana, pero también el renacimiento que experimenta la vida con las nuevas generaciones. A la vez, es un recordatorio, de la posibilidad de la desaparición total de la especie.

Kyoto is a beautiful city, full of parks and temples. Many people dress in their traditional kimonos (in the sketch, one boy and three girls). It is a City rich in history and culture.

Kyoto es una ciudad preciosa, llena de parques y templos. Mucha gente viste el traje tradicional (kimono, en el dibujo, un chico y tres chicas). Es una ciudad llena de historia y cultura.

Nara, Japan

Another place very interesting is the oldest Japanese Capital, Nara. There are also plenty of wild deers there (as per my sketch). It is full of temples, and old buildings. I actually prefer Nara than Kyoto, probably because Nara is a town and Kyoto a City, and I love Japanese towns.

Otro lugar muy intersante en Japón, es Nara, la primera capital del país. Al igual que en la isla de Miyajima, hay muchos ciervos salvajes (se pueden ver algunos en mi dibujo). Esta lleno de templos y edificios antiguos. De hecho prefiero Nara a Kyoto, probablemente porque Nara es un pueblo y Kyoto una ciudad, y los pueblos japoneses son mis favoritos.

Wild Deers at Miyajima Island Japan. I've heard of deers in Japan before, but I never expected how friendly (and cute) they were. They loved my sketchbook (to steal the paper) so by drawing them I was attracting them to get very close. Yes, you can pet them. They still wild (so you have to expect surprises) but was something wonderfull that I won't forget.

Ciervos salvajes en la Isla de Miyajima, Japon. Habia oido hablar de ciervos en Japon, pero no esperaba que fueran tan amistosos (y bonitos). Les encantaba mi cuaderno (para robarme papel), el hecho de estar dibujando los atraia muy muy cerca. Si, se dejaban acariciar. Son animales salvajes (tienes que esperar sorpresas) pero fue una experiencia que no olvidare.

Sydney Commuting

I commute about 1.5 / 2 hours a day. I use that time mostly to draw, also to read. Today I was reading and finally drawing. I'm normally to self aware to draw commuters, but today I didn't care that much.

Uso unas dos horas al día para ir y volver del trabajo. Normalmente en ese rato dibujo o leo. Hoy tocaba leer y en el último minuto, dibujar. Normalmente no dibujo a los otros viajeros, pero hoy no me ha importado.

Dotonbori Osaka - Japan

I do prefer Japanese towns than cities, but my favourite city in Japan is Osaka. I did this sketch in Dotonbori. Many people, specially kids, were curious about my public sketching and even took pictures with their keitais (japanese mobile phones).

Japanese Calligraphy brush pen (very appropiate) and watercolor.

Prefiero los pueblos japoneses que las ciudades, pero mi ciudad favorita en Japon es Osaka. Hice este boceto en el ara de Dotonbori. Mucha gente, especialmente niños se mostraban curiosos sobre mi dibujar en publico. Algunos incluso me hicieron fotos con sus keitais (telefonos japoneses).

Pincel de caligrafia japonesa (muy apropiado) y acuarela.

Sketching the Sydney Opera House while waiting the ferry.

I did the first sketch of the Sydney Opera House while waiting for my Ferry (that is about 10 minutes) from the Ferry Wharf next to where I live. It's a very quick sketch (goes well with my personality) and I was able to add some color in the Ferry. The trip from Luna Park to Circular Quay is about 5 minutes but is great to cross the Harbour. I did the second sketch when the ferry was entering in the wharf.

Dibuje estos esbozos de la Opera House de Sidney mientras esperaba el ferri (eso son unos 10 minutos) desde la parada de al lado de donde vive. Es un esbozo muy rapido (casa con mi personalidad). Pude añadir el color en el ferri. El trayecto desde Luna Park hasta Circular Quay es de unos 5 minutos pero es muy agradable cruzar la Bahia de Sidney. Hice el segundo esbozo de la Opera cuando el ferri entraba en Circular Quay.

Adelaide, South Australia

I came back last Sunday from my second visit to South Australia. I specially love the beach there, where I did those sketches, near Adelaide. The water is calm, fresh and transparent. The sand is white. The jetties give the perfect shadow for when is to hot, and the sun goes to rest in the Antartic Ocean creating beautiful colors. The one from my drawing was from the last sunset of the year 2011, a sketch to conclude a year!

El domingo pasado llegue a casa tras pasar unos dias de vacaciones en el estado de Australia Meriodional (South Australia). Me encantan las playas del sur, en el Oceano Antartico. El agua es cristalina y traquila, la arena blanca y las puestas de sol en el oceano son impresionantes. Hice estos bocetos cerca de la ciudad de Adelaida (Adelaide), el de la puesta de sol, es el de la ultima del año, una gran forma de concluir con dibujos el 2011!

I tried to re-start the daily strip as an exercise but I'm into too many thinks at the moment. I still thinking that I can keep this blog working in a weekly base (with few entries per week). I still drawing daily, I just don't want to expend one extra our per day scanning, formatting and adding to this blog. But there are few good solutions. Let's call it "resolution" and see what happenes from here.

Intente resucitar la tira diaria, de hecho por algunos dias más de los que postee en el blog, pero no ha funcionado. Sigo pensando que el blog puede funcionar de una manera semanal con actualizaciones. Sigo dibujando cada dia, estoy metido en varios proyectos interesantes de los que ire enseñando partes. Llamémosle un propósito de año nuevo :P y a ver que pasa.

Era el primer gol del Barça. Luego cayeron dos más. Resultado final 1 - 3. El partido acabo hace unos minutos (Domingo por la mañana en Sydney / Sábado por la noche en España), por eso la fecha de la tira es del 11.12.2011 y no del 10. :)

End up being the first goal of F.C. Barcelona. The end result was 1 - 3 (victory for Barça). The match was Sunday AM on Sydney, while in Spain was Saturday night. Pretty cool game :D

Pues como dice la tira, vuelvo al hábito de la tira diaria. Necesito un chute de creatividad, asi que vuelvo a los origenes, mientras sigo haciendo el resto de proyectos detrás de las cortinas, como mi colaboración mensual con la revista (vie lite), mis fanzines (de venta en Sídney, Australia!) y mis sketches.

This blog has been quite quiet for the last few months. I decided to reinflate some of the old glory by trying again a daily strip. Will see how much I can last this time. I'll keep all my other projects like the monthly comic for (vie lite) magazine, my zines (available for sale in Sydney!). I'd like to see were I can get three years later of the previous attempt. Still trying to decide what to do about the English translation of the strip. Will see.
