As you will be aware, the production of foie gras inflicts immense suffering on ducks and geese. The European Union’s own Scientific Committee on Animal Health and Animal Welfare – whose members include more than a dozen professors of veterinary medicine and animal science from across Europe – concluded that “force feeding, as currently practised, is detrimental to the welfare of the birds”.

This year's European Elections Manifesto calls on Brussels to introduce "mandatory labelling of meat and dairy products as to the country of source, method of production and the method of slaughter", but not the compulsory stunning of animals prior to their being hacked to death.

A judge has ruled that a Prison Service ban on sending books to prisoners is unlawful. The curious thing is that the European Convention on Human Rights wasn't even mentioned - so we now have judges able to strike down statutory instruments like this one without any legal backing at all. No doubt the judge is expecting a Labour-LibDem coalition to emerge next year, with the consequent reward of a senior judgeship.

Something that will seem very wrong to most Britons is the imminent passage of an Act of Parliament forcing governments to spend 0.7% of GDP on foreign aid. Although government policy, the four most senior Tory ministers made sure they were absent for the third Commons reading, with only a seventh of Tory MPs voting for the Bill. LibDems and Labour MPs saved Cameron's absent bacon.

The usual feminists and left-wingers are up in arms about breastfeeding in public - not just because a restaurant recently asked a breastfeeding mother to cover her breast up when feeding her baby, but also because UKIP's Nigel Farage noted that many people feel uncomfortable about, well, breastfeeding in public. As they do, but apparently it was "controversial" - mainstream media code for "fascist" - to mention it.

Stormont seems deadlocked over reductions to the welfare budget, so Cameron has decided to carry on betraying Ulster loyalists just like Thatcher did a year after the Brighton bombing, He's asking the Irish prime minister to sort it out. The "Iron" lady had prepared the way by inviting Ireland to share in the running of the north through the Anglo-Irish agreement. (Earlier this year the White House laid down the law on parades.)

Despite the creeping advance of the police state - web censorship to be tightened, parents to be jailed for upsetting their children (and men their wives) - at least a judge has ruled that a woman can't be jailed for having been drinking during her pregnancy. Yes, she did it to excess resulting in foetal damage, but if she had lost the way would have been opened to punish women for having even the odd tipple - or, of course, a fag.

However, bureaucratic overspending by the Devon health commissioning quango has allowed them to cut costs in a typically police state way. If you've had even one cigarette in the last eight weeks you can go whistle for a needed operation for all the good it will do you. Fatties can go hang too, even if their condition isn't related to obesity. And if you need two hearing aids, they'll only give you one. Serves you right for being deaf.

Children to be nationalised

Social Services departments can take your children away on a pretext. But the Serious Crime Bill allows you to be prosecuted on a pretext too - even though you haven't done them any harm. The State will soon dictate exactly how children should be raised, and punish any parent who disobeys - a process well underway in Scotland already. From the Spiked website -

"First, it will enable prosecutions to be brought where a child, although not physically harmed, has been harmed in other ways. Any form of emotional, psychological or intangible harm could be caught by this new definition of ill-treatment: ‘physical or otherwise’.....Secondly, clause 65 will also remove the examples that currently illustrate the severity of an injury necessary for its infliction to be regarded criminal."

"It will be possible for a parent to be convicted of: smacking a child; not providing it with regular meals; leaving a crying baby alone on the petrol forecourt while visiting the station checkout....the teenager who dislikes his parents’ style of parenting, should have little difficulty making a case for his parents to be prosecuted.....examples of behaviour to be outlawed [include] ‘isolating’, ‘belittling’ and ‘rejecting’ children."

And no doubt refusing to let your children go on school mosque visits could be regarded as harmful too, or smoking in front of them, or telling them that the only real marriages are heterosexual ones....

Killing billions of people might save the planet, say scientists

The BBC, partly funded as it is by the warmist European Union, seems to be taking this argument seriously -

"Schemes to tackle climate change could prove disastrous for billions of people, but might be required for the good of the planet.....That is the conclusion of a new set of studies into what's become known as geo-engineering.....these projects work by, for example, shading the Earth from the Sun or soaking up carbon dioxide. Ideas include aircraft spraying out sulphur particles at high altitude to mimic the cooling effect of volcanoes or using artificial 'trees' to absorb CO2."

Never mind the fact that, as the Met Office admits, global warming isn't happening. And never mind the genocide -

"Although all the simulations showed that blocking the Sun's rays - or solar radiation management, as it is called - did reduce the global temperature, the models revealed profound changes to precipitation including disrupting the Indian Monsoon....between 1.2 and 4.1 billion people could be adversely affected by changes in rainfall patterns [such as] the complete drying-out of the Sahel region of Africa.'"

Sorry, but I thought the idea was to prevent the world drying out? Anyway, the BBC article goes on to mention a less brutal "geo-engineering" solution to the non-problem of global warming. We simply make plankton obese by weighing them down with iron. As they sink to the seabed, whales won't be able to reach them and release the CO2 they adsorbed on the surface -

The EU Court of Auditors has refused to sign off the Commission's corruption-riddled accounts for the twentieth year running, but it now claims that it has done so, Britain's net extortions have been soaring above the rate of inflation for years, with an extra £1.7 billion now being added to fund overspending - a surcharge Cameron pretends he has halved - taking us up to a record £13 billion this year. Oh yes, and we've just been saddled with another £680 million surcharge too, for yet more overspending.

The former prime minister of Luxemburg - who arranged dirty deals with UK firms so that they paid bugger-all corporation tax, forcing you and me to make up the shortfall - wants the Commission, of which he is now the president, to have control over, er, corporation tax. He wants to preside over the EU inquiry into his tax dodging deals too.

This month's stupid bitch is Ros Altmann, the highly-paid, government-appointed (not elderly-appointed) tsar for the elderly. She wants to ban those road signs showing a bent-backed elderly couple because, she says, they discriminate against the elderly. Obviously she's oblivious to the fact that the signs are there to warn drivers to take extra care because elderly people may be crossing the road. She just says the signs encourage employers to discriminate against the elderly.

You see, at the same time she has been encouraging employers to take on the elderly as free labour, as if mass immigration wasn't driving wages down fast enough for the government's liking. Let's just hope these "interns" survive crossing to road to their employers' premises after the signs get taken down.

Government to ban smoking in cars

....if there are any children inside - and that includes the Welsh and Scottish governments too. I have covered the creeping criminalisation of smoking, which originated in Brussels as a directive, in several previous posts - see here and here too and also here and here as well. Whatever happened to the presumption of innocence? Savile died before he could be accused or tried, leaving police and newspapers - egged on by man-hating feminists - to declare him a serial sex-pervert. The lawyers were over the moon - they were going to make an absolute mint. And ministers breathed a sigh of relief, for an elderly white celebrity (the first of many, even though he was dead) had now been publicly branded a paedophile.

It takes our minds off endemic moslem grooming when we read about celebrities getting up to no good, you see. But now the grasping compo-vultures, egged on by press and police to "remember" being abused all those years ago, have lost out. There'll be no filthy lucre for them, shamelessly snatched out of the charitable trust fund so richly endowed by Savile to benefit genuinely good causes after his death. No, the money's all been swallowed up by the lawyers -

"UKIP councillor Julien Parrott walked out of a meeting of Torbay Council on Wednesday in protest after he was prevented from giving councillors evidence of the level of sexual abuse and rape in Torbay. Cllr Parrott asked whether Torbay was a safe place and after being told by the chair that it was, he attempted to inform councillors of the 32 cases of violence, threats and rape against women and children that had been to court recently and a confidential police report citing 65 cases of child sexual exploitation this year but was prevented from doing so by the chair....[he] walked out in protest, as did a local resident who told the chair 'you are a disgrace madam'"

A favourite ploy is to borrow a friend's taxi, pick up women and rape them - or if they are children, get them drunk and share them around. Always specify a white cab driver, ladies. And vote UKIP.

Local government reform

My model Local Government Act would drastically change the way town and county halls work -

Allow councils to bring back grammar school selection, thus ending the postcode lottery. And given that the cost of state education has been standardised by Whitehall - which stumps up the money - let private and voluntary sector schools claim this funding instead where parents don't like what the county's offering.

Likewise if you don't like your bin collection service, spend the money on your own collector instead. Lots of Americans do this where their council doesn't collect rubbish, but only disposes of it. Separation at source should be made optional once we quit the European Union, as there are plenty of landfill sites to go round.

Elsewhere I have proposed taking former county and municipal hospitals back into local ownership. This would remedy the democratic deficit involved in running them. Competition from the private and voluntary sectors for treatment costs from a state health insurance fund would reduce unnecessary deaths too.

Planning permission is best left to residents living in the area which would be affected if the proposal went ahead. If a ward referendum turns the scheme down, it simply won't go ahead. If the scheme increases traffic flows or reduces the total amount of open space, then a referendum covering the whole district will be held instead.

Tenants of social housing should be able to ballot among themselves to transfer ownership of their blocks and estates to whichever social owner they want, including themselves acting as a co-operative. Foreign tenants should be evicted, as charity begins at home. This implies quitting the European Convention on Human Rights.

In addition to the services listed above, councils should only be authorised to offer the following extra ones, on pain of councillor surcharge - highways, lighting, recreation, libraries, environmental health, consumer standards, emergency and welfare services, and the licensing of taxis.

All expenditure should show up on the council website, along with tendering details for bought-in goods and services. Elected mayoralties will be abolished, as such administrations are always corrupt. Golden handshakes will go too, as will parasites employed in greenery and equalities - just as soon as we quit the European Union.

The ban on issuing local government bonds for cheap financing of public works will be lifted and the Public Fleecing Initiative (PFI), a form of fraud introduced under cover of the EU's Stability and Growth Pact, will be abolished. And an ultra-fair land value tax will replace both council tax and business rates.

As Miliband dreams up even more soundbite policies to contort his rubbery lips around - the only one I can remember concerns payday loans - and as Cameron polishes up the skills he learned as a public relations spiv - like pretending he won't subsidise French public spending by another £1.7 billion, when he has no other option - and as Clegg keeps trying to portray himself as more of a socialist than Miliband, causing his party to lose votes as fast as UKIP gains them - the old parties dig their own graves even deeper by shredding their expenses records -

"All records of MP expenses prior to 2010 have been destroyed, preventing any further investigations in to them. A committee headed up by Speaker Bercow ruled that the records should be destroyed after 3 years to comply with data protection laws despite employment records being kept until an MP turns 100...There is nothing in the Data Protection Act that requires paperwork relating to MPs' expenses to be destroyed in anything less than 6 years, this is just a cover-up."

Which is great news for UKIP, the Greens, the SNP, Plaid Cymru and the Monster Raving Loonies - both the Official Party and its splinter groups.

The cadet, who was wearing his camouflaged uniform, suffered minor burns to his face and singed hairs in his face and right forearm, Greater Manchester Police said. The offender [was] described as black or Asian...Detective Inspector Liam Boden said -"

"At this stage of our inquiries, we're keeping an open minded as to what motivated the offender to commit such an act."

Despite Safeway's CCTV cameras, we don't even know what the attacker looked like in this incident -

"An elderly man selling Remembrance Day poppies in a busy supermarket was attacked with a claw hammer. The 79-year-old was taken to hospital after being struck with the weapon as he sold the poppies for the Royal British Legion in a Safeway store...[police] said: 'The man was attacked three times with a claw hammer and was taken to Stoke Mandeville Hospital with head injuries.'...A 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm and released on police bail pending further inquiries."

"Both the Royal British Legion and Safeway said they could not comment."

So police have imposed a vow of silence on both Safeway and the Legion. I wonder what the "further inquiries" are about? Did the old man provoke his young attacker by selling poppies, perhaps? Or can the thug be let off because he was a victim of extremism?

Police and Crime Commissioner elections - South Yorkshire

The election of a replacement for paedophile's friend Shaun Wright was straight out of a banana republic. Of the 14% turnout - kept low by popular disgust - 75% were postal votes, meaning that most of them were illegal. The tribal block vote was flown in from the Indian subcontinent and augmented by local elders.

UKIP scored a majority of votes not cast by post, mostly from white ex-Labour voters. But Labour won on a platform of "rebuilding trust" - that is, pretending that the problem had gone away to ease the fears of child rapists that they might be nicked. And Labour's victory was solely down to illegal support from moslems.

Extra - The winning candidate, a left-wing vicar, said “We’ve shown they can be defeated and can be stopped.” Unfortunately he was referring to UKIP, not Labour's filthy core supporters. Some Christian.

It's always amusing when one right-on faction has a go at another, and it makes a refreshing change from the usual news of politically-correct activists getting physical with EDL or UKIP members, or even with people who don't believe that there's such a thing as global warming. Breitbart puts it nicely -

Like the IRA, the SWP operates sharia-style courts for legal disputes between members, where a woman's word is treated with the same respect as that of a pig. As the Scottish Student Journal relates -

"National Secretary Martin Smith faced accusations of rape from a young female party member...deliberations led to dismissal of the allegations...online sources including the writings of a former leading member of the SWP, Tom Walker, express that such sexual assault allegations were 'whitewashed'...The complainant was reportedly subjected to hostile questioning....two other women made similar complaints against Smith, and in March 2013, The Guardian reported that another woman had also faced a gruelling interrogation after alleging rape by another party member."

Neither EUSA nor the Feminist Society dare draw the parallel with genuine sharia tribunals, or with such hotbeds of "rape culture and lad banter" as Scotland's moslem grooming communities. In fact just questioning the strict segregation imposed at University islamic meetings can have the two-faced sisterhood jumping down your throat.

Glastonbury bans sale of Red Indian headgear

I know, it's not even June yet, but already all 150,000 tickets have been sold - and already organisers of next year's Glastonbury Festival have decreed that no-one will be allowed to sell Native American headwear.

This follows an online petition to ban such sales at the festival, signed by a massive 65 people, few of whom may actually attend, but all of whom are clearly left-wing control freaks. Like the petition organiser, the American-sounding (and therefore riddled with guilt about the nineteenth-century ethnic cleansing of American natives?) Daniel W Round -

"Daniel W Round launched a campaign to ban the popular festival accessory on Change.org, arguing that wearing them is 'offensive and disrespectful'.....Mr Round said the headdress had become 'increasingly prevalent' over the past few years at Glastonbury and other music festivals, which was a 'concerning trend'."

Continuing the politically-correct tradition of feeling offended on behalf of minorities, Daniel W polled not Red Indians, but the kind of Guardian-reading white folk who frequent Change.org instead. He rants on, like fabled polytechnic lecturer Dave Spart -

"There has long been consensus among indigenous civil rights activists in North America about the wearing of headdresses by non-Natives – that it is an offensive and disrespectful form of cultural appropriation, that it homogenises diverse indigenous peoples, and that it perpetuates damaging, archaic and racist stereotypes."

And fearful organisers took note of the 65 signatories. Such is the power of the middle-class left - they can threaten so much bad publicity for businesses which don't comply with their wishes that they usually get their way in the end. It doesn't take many, does it?

Judge sentences toddler to death

Just came across this shocking article in the Express. In modern Britain wicked murderers have the right to life and can't be executed - but innocent children can. And the parents have no say in the matter, as in this case -

"Welcome to a country where a judge can loftily decree that the unnamed child should die in an unknown hospital and we are to be told nothing. What is even more chilling is that the judge accepts the 17-month-old boy’s demise has in part been brought about by the incompetence of staff at the hospital. However, the fatally incompetent staff, who are pushing to have the toddler’s life support switched off, enjoy a rigid cloak of secrecy....as a mother sobs and intones prayers in a courtroom, the state, in the form of a High Court judge, can overrule a child’s parents and decree what is in its best interests"

NHS staff often murder people in their own "best interests" - the Liverpool Care Pathway being a notorious case in point. Under this scheme the elderly and people with learning difficulties are butchered to free up bedspace.

This particular case echoes that of the boy who would have suffered extensive brain damage if an NHS hospital had succeeded in "treating" him for cancer. The parents fled abroad with him, with police in hot pursuit. Although briefly arrested, they did manage to get their son treated in a foreign clinic, and he is now on the mend.

Put cows in nappies, says EU

Following the passing of a European Union directive. any farmer with land that slopes steeper than 15% - say, in the Lake District or in the Scottish Highlands - will have to put his cows in nappies. From Richard Littlejohn -

"Johann Huber, a Bavarian cattle farmer, has started putting nappies on his herd to avoid falling, er, foul of an EU fertiliser directive. It might seem like an absurd protest against another ridiculous piece of Brussels bureaucratic interference, but.....the Bavarian dairy industry is convinced that there is no other way to comply with the latest environmental laws. New EU legislation forbids ‘land application of fertilisers to steeply sloping ground to avoid leaching of nitrates and water pollution’.As the ban on ‘fertilisers’ also includes cow-pats, farmers feel they have no alternative but to prevent what cows do naturally from coming into contact with the soil. The directive applies to all land with a gradient of more than 15%."

We knew the EU had it in for cows - blaming them for non-existent global warming - but this latest flatulent outburst from Brussels (geddit?) provides even more proof that we should leave now, before we do ourselves a mischief. Which would incur savage penalties if we're hiking up Snowdon at the time - unless we're wearing nappies.

Police spied on newspaper to protect Chris Huhne....

...after journalists found that he had lied to police about a speeding offence to avoid loss of his driving license -

"Police used anti-terrorism powers to secretly spy on The Mail on Sunday after shamed Cabinet Minister Chris Huhne falsely accused journalists of conspiring to bring him down. Detectives...used far-reaching powers under the controversial Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act...to hack MoS phone records and identify the source....his name – along with details of telephone calls and emails between him and MoS News Editor David Dillon – were passed by prosecutors to Chris Huhne’s defence lawyers."

So not only did police abuse an anti-terrorism law, but they also helped Huhne's lawyer to defend him in court. He lost the case and was sent to prison for four months, for perverting the course of justice. As was his wife - she had lied that she was driving the car at the time her husband broke the speed limit.

Labour admits UKIP threat

The Fabian Society, an intrinsic part of the Labour Party, admits that UKIP doesn't just take votes away from the Tories. Indeed, the "kippers" could even lose Labour the general election victory next year that many party insiders are taking for granted. Here are some extracts from the Society's website -

"Labour seats under direct UKIP threat: Great Grimsby, Dudley North, Plymouth Moor View, Rother Valley, Rotherham.....Sixteen critical and very serious indirect threat seats which Labour might lose to Conservatives as a result of UKIP-Labour considerers: Southampton Itchen, Great Grimsby, Walsall North, Plymouth Moor View, Telford, Dudley North, Halifax, Wolverhampton NE, Birmingham Edgbaston, Blackpool South, Walsall South, Leicester West, Nottingham South, Southampton Test, Birmingham Northfield, and Wakefield.....Four critical and very serious indirect threat Labour target seats which it could fail to win as a result of UKIP-Labour considerers: Plymouth Sutton & Devonport, Carlisle, Lincoln and Ipswich."

And how do the Fabians propose countering the UKIP threat? Derisory measures, which have been and have failed, are illegal under European law, or which would cost more to working class taxpayers -

"Labour should stress a combination of cost of living issues (energy price freeze, increasing the minimum wage, capping rent increases) with policies that speak to UKIP considerers core anxieties (such as the introduction by some Labour councils of residency requirements for council house waiting lists and curbs on welfare payments to families who live overseas). Beyond this, Labour should consider promoting more contribution in welfare, ring fence a large number of its proposed 200,000 new homes for local people and switch from EU free movement of labour, to fair movement of labour....."

- and propaganda exercises carried out by local party branches, which will probably elicit caustic comments from what the Fabians call "considerers" - ie people thinking of switching support from Labour to UKIP -

"Labour should shift its campaigners efforts to community campaigning on local issues like pay day loan and betting shops, litter picks and night safety campaigns that reconnect Labour with the local community...."

Nowhere do the Fabians suggest ending mass immigration, kicking asylum seekers off the housing queue, restricting British jobs to British workers, cracking down on moslem paedophiles, or restoring law and order. They can offer nothing to stop the haemorrhaging of votes from Labour to the United Kingdom Independence Party.

Last year I mocked expense-fiddling former MEP Nikki Sinclaire's metamorphosis from homosexual man to heterosexual woman. And then to lesbian, in an attempt to sell his book. Here's another case -

"A transsexual who began life as a man, then had a £10,000 operation to become a woman, has now demanded the British taxpayer stump up for yet another operation to become a man again.....the operation is likely to cost the National Health Service £14,000, as it is a far more complicated procedure for a variety of reasons....[he said] 'I have always longed to be a woman, but no amount of surgery can give me an actual female body and I feel like I am living a lie. It is exhausting putting on make-up and wearing heels all the time. Even then I don't feel I look like a proper woman. I suffered from depression and anxiety as a result of the hormones too. I have realised it would be easier to stop fighting the way I look naturally and accept that I was born a man physically.'"

Now let's get one thing straight. You cannot change genders, because men and women are so different - even our cell and brain structures are different, as are our feelings and patterns of thinking. All you can do is live a lie by taking hormone injections for the rest of your life, plus having your organs turned inside out, resulting in impaired levels of pleasure. So if you've always felt that you were meant to be a member of the opposite sex, then blame your parents for messing you up and get psychotherapy - which like fake gender reassignment, is also available on the NHS.

What with Dave calling the latest MP to defect to UKIP "fat arse", Boris hinting that UKIP supporters (many of them ex-Tories) have sex with vacuum cleaners, and Tory conference speakers hotly urging their entire eurosceptic wing to join UKIP, I was reminded of Michael Palin, playing a mad sergeant-major in this Python sketch, telling soldiers that if they had something better to do than marching up and down the square, then they had better go and do it.....
