Danny Boyle's Next Is '127 Hours'

After much speculating on Danny Boyle's follow up to Slumdog Millionaire, Variety can confirm that his next project will be '127 Hours' a film that tells the story of mountaineer Aron Ralston.

Ralston's right forearm got pinned for nearly five days under a boulder during a climb in Utah in May 2003. He used a dull knife to amputate the limb, then scaled a 65-foot sheer wall and hiked out before running into a family that gave him water and food. He was finally rescued by helicopter.

‘The Guard’ Begins Production In Ireland

IFTN has news that principal photography for a new Irish comedy thriller, ‘The Guard’, has commenced in Spiddal, Co. Galway. The feature marks the directorial debut film of John Michael McDonagh (Ned Kelly) who has also wrote the film, Brendan Gleeson and Don Cheadle are set to play the leads.

Other Irish acting talents featured include Liam Cunningham , Fionnula Flanagan, Pat Shortt and David Wilmot.

The press release for the film says: "Sergeant Gerry Boyle is a small-town cop with a confrontational personality, a subversive sense of humour, a dying mother, a fondness for prostitutes, and absolutely no interest whatsoever in the international cocaine-smuggling ring that has brought FBI agent Wendell Everett to his door.

"However, despite the fact that Boyle seems more interested in mocking and undermining Everett than in actively working to solve the case, he finds that circumstances keep pulling him back into the thick of it."

John Hillcoat sat down with atomicpopcorn were they got to talk a a little about his future projects. John confirmed casting on 'The Wettest County in The World' and that he will be teaming up with Nick Cave once again to bring 'The Death of Bunny Munro' to the BBC or Channel 4.

I know you’re circling a few projects right now, can you give a few updates?

John Hillcoat: Well, one touchwood that’s most likely to…

The Wettest County?

John Hillcoat: Yeah it’s west Virginia, moonshine, backwoods, and Prohibition. Nick Cave has written the script and we’ve got a phenomenal cast. Hopefully, but — it’s really tough out there.

Who’s attached to that?

John Hillcoat: Um… Ryan Gosling and Shia LaBeouf. But yeah, I shouldn’t really talk about it cause it’s in the middle of all sorts of stuff.

And what about The Death of Bunny Munro?

John Hillcoat: We’re going to turn that into television. We’re going to try and wake up the BBC and, or, actually Channel 4. We’re trying to say to British television,”look at HBO, I mean what the hell are you doing?”

And are you involved with the remake of La bonne année?

John Hillcoat: No… That’s very misleading, all that stuff.

No Season 3 For Flight of the Conchords?

Talking with reuters, Jemaine Clement revealed there may not be a third season of 'Flight of the Conchords' because it requires so much work. A final decision will be made within a month, he said:

"It very likely might not" return for a third season, Clement said.
"It could come back in a shorter season or like a special," he added.
"We've got to write the series, but we've also got to write the songs, and just dividing your time into those two writing tasks is really tricky," he said.

A HBO spokeperson left this statement

"We've left their future entirely in their hands," said Nancy Lesser, a spokeswoman for the network. "We would love to have more, and we left an open door at HBO."

This weeks Halloween themed 'check this...' is Michael Dougherty's 'Season's Greetings', the short serves as an animated prequel to his feature lenght directorial debut 'Trick 'r Treat', which was finally released on DVD this month after being shelved by Warner Borthers for 2 years. The short film is about a child (Sam) being stalked by a stranger on Halloween night, only Sam is no ordinary Child.

Tom Hardy & Charlize Theron Confirmed To Star In 'Mad Max 4'

Variety have confirmed what we previously reported that Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron have been cast in 'Mad Max: Fury Road'.

Although not officially confirmed, Hardy is expected to replace Mel Gibson as The Road Warrior "Mad" Max Rockatansky. Director and writer George Miller is keeping the script and all details under wraps.

'Doctor Who: The Waters of Mars' To Air November 15 On BBC

'Doctor Who' will return to BBC One Sunday, November 15 at 7pm on BBC One with 'The Waters of Mars'.

The Russell T. Davies and Phil Ford-penned episode and has been directed by Graeme Harper and produced by Nikki Wilson.

The episode will be followed by two more specials, one being broadcast on Christmas Day with the conclusion and Tennant's final outing as The Doctor before his regeneration yet to be announced but expected to air late 2009/early 2010.

Steven Moffat revealed he is writing six of the episodes and overseeing another seven for the new series and promised fans "great stories" and said there would "joyous moments" as well as "heartbreak" while attending the 2009 Screenwriters' Festival in Cheltenham.

The head screenwriter/ showrunner is currently working on the script for the series finale for which expectations will be high.

"[My] biggest challenge right now is the writing of Episode 13," he confessed.

He also praised Matt Smith.

"He's all the things you'd expect, including ancient," and "someone you can't take your eyes off".

Moffat also said he is under a lot of pressure to continue the series's success as the new show runner/ head writer.

"What if I broke Doctor Who? That would be a tragedy," & "Yes, you do feel [the] pressure," he added.

The new look Tardis was mentioned too.

"There is a plot reason for it,""I always liked the Tardis from the Peter Cushing [Dr Who] movies, and wanted to make it more like that".

Richard Ayoade's 'Submarine' Cast Confirmed

DS are reporting that Noah Taylor, Craig Roberts, Yasmin Paige and Sally Hawkins will star in Richard Ayoade's feature directorial debut 'Submarine'. Michael Sheen has dropped out of the film but Paddy Considine is still on board.

An adaptation of Joe Dunthorne's novel, Submarine centres on 15-year-old Swansea boy Oliver Tate (Roberts) as he romances classmate Jordana Bevan and attempts to stop his parents splitting up. Dunthorne's novel has drawn comparisons with JD Salinger's classic teen angst tale Catcher In The Rye.

Ridley Scott Talks Alien Prequel

Empire got to have an exclusive chat with Ridley Scott about the Alien prequel, he revealed the story will take place thirty years prior to the original telling Empire:

“It’s a brand new box of tricks,” said Ridley. “We know what the road map is, and the screenplay is now being put on paper. The prequel will be a while ago. It’s very difficult to put a year on Alien, but [for example] if Alien was towards the end of this century, then the prequel story will take place thirty years prior.”

“I never thought I’d look forward to a sequel,” said Ridley. “But a prequel is kind of interesting. I’m looking forward to doing that.”

Amy Adams & Zach Galifianakis are in talks to star in 'Once' and 'Bachelors Walk' director John Carney's upcoming comedy-drama 'Town House'.

'Town House' tells the story of an agoraphobic man who lives in a Boston townhouse with his teenage son and is forced to come to terms with his life as the royalties of his late rock star father begin to dwindle.

Carney, who adapted the screenplay for 'Town House' from the Tish Cohen novel of the same name, is planning to shoot the film next summer.
