The antivirus definition files are up to date but I see a warning message "Your computer is not protected". Then I checked with the 'other settings' of Settings, then I can see the information on updates. The virus definition, spyware definition and deep guard file are up to date. However, the virus definition date is weird (see the picture). I don't know how it happened and how to correct it. If you know the solution, please help. When I check with the website of F-secure, I have to download whole program, which I think is unnecessary.
The visa process and its rules are defined by individual country or embassy/consular section. No one can ask do this or that but one can suggest systematic process for visa application. This post is for the same purpose.

If you want to apply visa for Schengen countries, what you will do?

Definitely, you will fill the application form with required documents as stated in the embassy website and go to embassy. You may have already seen that the visa section opens from Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 to 12:00 and you may appear at the gate between those days around 10:00 but that would be too late for you. Why?

Because there would be other people waiting to submit the application. There might be 'unofficial' name list of queue but that never works in order. Guards have full authority on it. Now, you have two options, come next day earlier than others or put your name in the list and wait.

Whats a big deal to wait since you are submitting an application and you are in queue?

Its a big deal since no one knows whether you will get time to submit your application or not. One may think that the one who reached between the consular hour (10:00-12:00) would get time to submit application but it is the time the section works. It is just the working hour of the section in spite of the number of applicants waiting to submit their application. If it took 30 minutes to process the application of a person, 5th number wastes time of waiting at the embassy gate for four hours. Similarly, if took just 5 minutes then even queue number 24 can also submit application. How long it takes to submit the application is never known. Sometimes, only 6 applications are received and sometimes up to 15. The concern is if one would know whether s/he would get time to submit application s/he would wait in queue and rest can come tomorrow but no one knows about it. Neither the guard nor the officials in the embassy. They just want you to wait and see. Their simple answer is 'come early tomorrow! we can do nothing!'. Coming tomorrow is not a problem but uncertainty of getting turn is a problem. How many times you need to visit the embassy and wait till the clock hits 12:00? Is there no value of time for others?

It is better to realize by the embassy that there are increasing number of applications as they can only issue schengen visa in Nepal. The applicant will visit the embassy for sure so if there would be a ticket system (pre-date booking) or fix number of application processed per day, one would not waste time standing or lying on street at the embassy gate (there is no waiting place at gate for visitors).

The time has almost come and there are very less activities for the event. There could be announcement and advertisement in international media, on web, Nepalese consular sections or embassies to attract tourists. Simple social networks could also be helpful for it.

A week back, when I was at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), I was surprised to see how well the ministry has planned for Tourism Year. First of all, there was so long queue at passport control for departure that delayed most of the airlines by an hour. Again, for security check, there was single door to pass through (though there were 3 doors with security check machines). So you could imagine the crowd at rush time at TIA. After sometime when there was such long queue, they started ‘fast security check’ but didn’t bother to start other gates.

After security check, there were two lobbies for rest before boarding. I saw a information screen and television in each lobby. Each television was with cable channel of neighboring country in loud volume. I don’t understand the purpose of television and with movie channel in language neither international (which can be understand by many passengers) nor in national (if targeted to own citizens). Are we promoting someone’s culture, tradition, language and business at the cost of our tax money? Who is doing this for what shake?

It would be much nicer if those televisions would have been used to promote Nepalese tourism. It should have displayed pictures of Nepal or documentary especially prepared for tourism. Nepal Tourism Board has such materials and they could be played continuously so that the tourists who were leaving the country would know about the next event in Nepal. They will definitely convey the message to their family and friends. They may also see the place or culture or tradition which they might have missed in this visit and would like to come again after seeing on the screen. Even if they see the thing they have already visited, they may be excited to see on screen and discuss each other. Last moment event is memorable for long so the best way to use those televisions is promote tourism in Nepal.

The account may receive normal deposits during this phase but account holder can not make transaction especially taking out money. This is like 'in is allowed but out is not permitted'.

More than three dozens of bank are being operated in Nepal. The are providing different facilities due to competition in the market but they are not thinking about 'dormant account'. Lastly, I was out of the station for four months and may be I have not used my account for two months before I left. I arrived at airport and tried to draw local currency that can be used for food or taxi but my card did not work. The situation during that time was very uncomfortable. I had money in my account but I could not make use of it. Then I started thinking whats the use to keep money in bank? Whats the use of visa or credit cards? when they can not solve my problem as required. Later I came to know that the account was dormant as I have not made any transaction for six months. I went to bank and filled the form to make it active and it is active now. During the same visit to bank I requested to extend the dormant time of six months to one year or ask me before making it dormant but they simply refused the request. In many countries, normally, the bank would inform the customer two to three times prior to the account becoming dormant and if they do not get response, take action on it.

Bank would usually say that they make dormant for your account for security reasons or keep your money safe but actually, they want to be sure to use your money for free. Once your account becomes dormant, they can use your money for further investment as you can not use your money till you get permission from bank to make your account active. Sometimes the bank employee has misused such accounts as they know which accounts are dormant and for how long. There were news of such events in news paper too. Though there are rules that banks should send the dormant accounts money (if never claimed) should be the property of nation but bank don't want to send that money to the state and they keep it in the bank.

If I want to print a browser content to my printer, Canon Laser Shot LBP-1210, the application crashes. I have Windows Xp with recent update (SP3). I was using Mozilla Firefox as my browser when I got following error, I checked with Internet Explorer, Google Chrome but all gave me same problem. I even tried with notepad and got problem. While checking with MS word or excel, there is no problem of printing. I can make pdf files from any applications (browsers as mentioned above). I reinstalled the printer drivers from the CD that came along with printer. I even uninstalled browsers application and reinstalled with latest versions. I installed latest Java thinking that that could be a problem. But the problem is still there. It has recently changed it name from 'Mero mobile' to 'Ncell'. When it started it new tariff 'Rs 1.99' for any networks throughout Nepal, I also became a member of it (Pre-Paid). Since it is a multinational company, the chances that the same sim can work in other countries, international roaming, was high. Actually, it had some countries where I can use the sim to reach my country in spite of its cost. When I checked the website of Ncell, I was very excited to see that it works for India, Kazakhstan, Sri Lanka and Turkey (see http://www.ncell.com.np/prepaid/roaming/international). It happened that I have to visit India and Sri Lanka few weeks back and I took the mobile with Ncell sim within it. I tried to connect through automatic and manual search to network in India and Sri Lanka but it did not connect to any networks. I was surprised to the situation. How could such a multinational company can claim that it works on roaming and not working? Who is responsible for the false information on it? If you are also visiting these countries and have Ncell sim, please try and check if that works to you.

The charge for general checkup, lab analysis, admission to hospital and other investigation costs are subsidized due to governmental funds. The hospital also runs 'Extended Hospital Service (EHS), which is costly as the charge is similar as in private clinic or private hospitals. The general check up and operation cost compare to private hospital is low but all costs are not subsidized. While comparing to lab tests, the cost is similar to some of the private labs. Many doctors recommend to have lab analysis in private labs especially if you visit doctor in EHS. Most of the lab equipments might be not working or operators are in leave or there are many waiting for their turn which may take even months to get their turn so patients are forced to visit private labs or centers.

Last week, I have to visit a doctor who only checks in TUTH either in general or EHS. The doctor recommend to get admitted for detail investigation. There were no beds to get admission. After waiting and searching for some hours, I got a bed but 'cabin' bed. The cost for it was about $14 per day but a room with attached toilet and single bed. The common bed in general rooms is about $1 per day. I had no options so I got admitted in spite of high cost. It was very surprising and came very expensive later when I came to know that all the other costs are also charged higher for the bed I have taken. The lab and other diagnosis costs are more than 33% higher for the cabin bed than general beds. There might be a policy to charge high for 'haves' and compensate the charge for 'have nots' but cabin bed is not always taken by 'haves' one. In my case too, I was forced to take cabin bed due to compulsion. Now, how can a hospital decide to charge me under 'haves' category? Another very important issue is the hospital authority neither told me about this extra charge nor inform others through any means. I have not known this charge before. With the more charge for bed per day and other analysis costs, the hospital bed cost me more than a luxurious hotel bed in Nepal at the end.

Afterwards, same site was bought by Yahoo and it was free through Yahoo for some time. Last year it stopped free service so I don't have website because I don't earn from my site to host by paying. However, I feel to have my site again. While searching, I got many such sites and different offers. I am little bit confused to register them as they say 'free' and there are hidden charges. Some are really free but have their banner or advertisement in the pages. That must be their business strategy. Among such searched sites, I like the one, its theme "Free web site for all". It is free only for some aspects and the charge is only $10 but not affordable for me. Do you know how many days are there in a year for Nepal Telecom Company (NTC), a major tele company of Nepal?. It should consider 365 as normal but not. It only considers 360 days in a year. I didn't know this before till I find problem in my ADSL plan. I was paying the bill every month thinking that the monthly bill covers total days of perticular month but I got disconnected a day before the actual date. When I inquired about it, NTC told me that no matter how many days are there in a month, it calculates only 30 days. That means even you pay for a yearly bill (365 days), you don't get service for 5 days. What a system? Do you know, NTC disconnects you at midnight and counts the day of connection as one day in spite of time (You again loose 12 hours of connection as the office opens at 10:00 and re-connection may take 2 hours after payment). Is there any consumer rights organizations or medias to voice this issue?

Only few are lucky enough to be selected and among those few are given visa by the embassy. There is even an organization called 'victim of DV' in Nepal. That also shows how crazy are people to fill DV form and try to go US. It is not easy to get the information whether DV form filler got the lottery or not. Some organizations get the list (I am not sure if that is valid one or not) and publish on their website. Yes, official site, general post office give information of the letters received from their website www.gpo.gov.np but other private company also publish the list on their own or from the information received from post office. Sometimes the post office is behind to update the information where as other websites update with latest information. I don't know how this happens with out getting information from post office. It is also not good to publish the list and the address without the consent of individual but not for business purpose, I am publishing this information gathered from the post office website so that one can get information just in one file. Here is the list of 1112 people whose first letter has been arrived in the post office, Kathmandu. Wish you all good luck. Better luck in next lot or next time for those who are not in this list. Here is the excel file.

Whenever I click, either it was too late or early but no right time to get the lightning flash. I am not a professional to take such photos nor I have special camera. I thought that might be the reason but I was so desperate to have such picture myself, I tried hundreds of of time. I tried continuous picture taking mode too but my camera is not so good to take continuous picture once clicked. I have to press the key continuously and the time it captures the moment, it used to be again too late or too early. Finally, last week, I could capture one of the picture I have tried to capture for a long time. I would like to share with you. The shot is from the sky of Kathmandu, Nepal where a roof top water tank parts are also seen at the bottom corner of the picture.

May be this is not strange to computer people but it was for me. I turn on the computer as usual but I could not reach to normal desktop. I turn it off and started again thinking that some problem occurred to boot. Again I halt in the same black window. I looked the message carefully. Then I saw a message 'Keyboard error or no keyboard present'. OK there might be keyboard error or it might have connection error but the suggestion 'Press F1 to continue, DEL to enter SETUP' made laugh after trying few keys of the keyboard. How stupid I was to press key of the keyboard which has error or which is not present. Later I feel the stupidity of my computer / programmer /manufacturer who suggested to press key having the error of. I don't know how this problem can be solved or the suggestion is really good one. Anyway, I could not solve the problem by pressing any key so I plug off the keyboard wire and plug in again. After that the boot of the computer solved my problem. If you have comments on this problem, please suggest me.

At its initial stage of contruction, almost all papers highlighted that Nepal is going to have its first six land road. But the way, the construction started, I was in doubt. Now some streches are almost finished and it shows that the road is not at all a six lane. It is just four lane road. How and who said it was six lane and if it was six, why only four at this stage is a question. Anyway, here is picture of the ongoing construction phase of the same road.

I am using it for some months and recently I found an interesting thing. I had one software downloaded from internet which I had in my D:drive. The software also had key generating software 'keygen'. It was a long time I had that software but when I install the software today, I didn't find the 'keygen.exe' to run the software. I was surprised to see that. When I ask my friends if they have that software, I got it in CD. I tried to copy the keygen but Microsoft Security Essentials treated it as virus and didn't allow me to copy. Wow! its good antivirus program in this regard and I also came to know that the program might have deleted that file during scanning process. Hence be careful if you are having some keygen or similar programs and running MS Security Essentials in your computer.

There are people who claim that there are theories and mathematical models to predict future and based on the same they predict. The people tell about the past and future by looking their birth sign or by reading their palm. How good or accurate they are is a question but the number of people who look horoscope on daily newspaper is high. When a big event or disaster occurs, many papers focus on the earlier prediction. Such prediction is coated to a great philosopher or scientist or astrologer. Some of them are just based on dreams or spirit which helped the predictor. Anyway, I am not such predictor but I am having a dream for few days which I want to write here thinking that something is going to happen in near future.

For the last few days, I am having dream like:

Landslides and people sliding down the steep hills with it. The slide is striking on the rock and some people get pieces and some just get no hurt.

Airplanes are on their way to takeoff. May be they are in hurry, one after another took off. On the route, it seems that many planes taking off very fast and due to some problem with one, they started striking each other. Actually, one of the plane was little bit low in height and the hillock in front so tried to take height but as there were other planes above and behind, the behind plane didn’t thought of in front plane taking height so there was collision between three four planes.

The sleeping bed’s wooden frame gets broken into two parts. It was advised to use iron plate to fix the two broken parts but the wood seems to be old, already fixed with nails. The whole bed was surprisingly found to be very useless.

These situations are little bit wondering me as something might happen. I hope it will not happen as in dream but I suppose it may be showing some sign which may happen in near future. When I check the history, January 15, 1934 (Major Earthquake hitting Nepal/India) and coming up planet position (Solar eclipse) on January 15, 2010, I wonder my dream is flashing me about the situation. I don’t want it to happen but why I am getting this scene?

When the balance reaches less than Rs. 15, you will get a sms mentioning that your balance is getting low. The worse thing is that if the balance is really low, you will get sms after every pick up call. That means you can not call others due to low credits but when you receive call from others, you get alert message 'balance is low, recharge...' just after completing the call. Sometimes it makes you feel bad especially when you get sms just after call because everyone knows it is due to low credits. NTC makes someone shame for not recharging the account. You may have full of such sms and you have to delete to get expected sms from your friends, family or others.

Is there any means to overcome this problem?

Yes, there is a way. Usually, when we finish our call, usually we press 'red' button of mobile to disconnect the call or just put mobile to pocket or just keep in hand. To overcome the problem of receiving sms from NTC, please make the mobile busy either with checking earlier sms or run other programs in the mobile just after the call. If you do this for few seconds you will not receive the sms. Wow! what a great solution! I don't know why this works and what is the technicalities behind it but in practice, it works.

Though the program is free to download and install from Microsoft site, your windows copy must pass through genuine Windows validation process. If your software is not passed through the validation, you may get through with simple technique as described here. The setup is fast than normal xp setup and it also incorporated all the device setup. Usually I had to provide board driver and other drivers like of modem, router, sound card etc after new Windows xp installation. However, Windows 7 didn't ask for any. Everything seems working perfect without extra driver installation. The sound, internet connection, display and other regular things are working smooth. The total space taken by the installation is about 13.2 GB. Its a huge harddisk space but harddisk space is no problem these days as it costs less than RAM or processor. The setup time is really short compare to Windows xp and computer boot up is also fast.

The main problem I faced during installation is language problem. During installation process, when I was asked for language and currency format, keyboard format, and time region, I checked for language and region, I provided Nepal/Nepali. I faced a problem to inter user name and computer name later. I typed the user name and it displayed in Nepali font but when I typed the computer name, it could not accept the font or language and I could not go further for setup. Finally, I reboot the computer and it came to the same place, to enter username and computer name. When I typed username, the computer name typed as 'username'-PC. The username is in the language selected and PC in English. When I click ok, it returned error or not right format for name message . So I deleted local language word 'username' from 'username-PC' in the computer name field. Now the field only got 'PC' in English. When I pressed 'ok' it accepted and the installing continued.

I am not sure whether the local language, keyboard, local region time setup problem is only with Nepali language or it is also with other languages but there is something wrong with the setup with Nepali language for sure. Since there is an option to change these settings once setup is over hence it is better to install with English language at least for username and computername.

I have subscribed 128kbps as data flow speed. But when I am downloading something, I get a window saying about 15KB/sec (+/- few KBs sometime) as download rate. Technically is it right data rate or I should get 128KB/sec as download rate? Please let me know whether I am getting very slow connection or technically 128kbps means about 15kbps of download.

I was also called to fix the problem by friends. A problem even in a single system file due to deletion, corruption or virus infection leads to whole windows system malfunction. Computer may not boot and ask for a new setup or 'file is missing' to boot the computer. If there could be A:\drive, the drive can be formatted making it dos boot disk. Then the missing file can be copied and install in the problem computer. However the practical problem these days is not having A:\ drive or system boot CD creation before hand. We usually, boot the computer with new windows setup and install the whole system. It usually take about an hour and we also have to install other programs.

Sometimes we may repair the system but we have to reinstall the other programs again. To over come this new whole installation problem, I got an option. This works for some missing files. If you experience any file missing in booting your computer, boot your computer with windows boot CD. After booting the computer from CD, it will copy required files for the system. When it finishes copying setup files, a windows will be prompt for different options:

"Repair, new install or cancel"

Here, don't select for new install or repair. Just cancel for the further setup. It will restart the computer. You can take the boot cd from the drive and allow to boot from harddisk. Now, it will boot normal without boot problem or missing files. Goodluck.

Follow the following steps:

First of all download the Media player software (ver. 11), which can be downloaded from Microsoft official site. If you double click the file or run directly then you will prompt for Microsoft Windows genuine software check and if you could not pass the validation, you can not install the player.

Press left mouse key to ‘wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu.exe’ and use winrar or unzip program to extract the files.

The unzip folder consists of many files but double click ‘wmfdist11.exe’. This will setup the program. After completing the setup restart the computer.

Again go to unzip folder and double click ‘wmp11.exe’. It will also setup the program like step no. 3. After completing it’s setup, restart the computer.

You are ready to use the media player. Enjoy!
