Team it with opaque tights and boots to wear to the office or for every day wear but at night it's striking enough due to the elegant cut and colourful design to just add a pair of high heels for a more special occasion or for an evening out.

The length of the Millia Dress is just above the knee so it's short enough to show off your legs but it isn't in decent.

What you can't see from the image is the rear of the dress which has a faux button panel down the back which adds a feminine contrast.

What To Wear To A Black Tie Event

Are you wondering what to wear to a black tie event? Well you've come to the right place.

This time of year there are hundreds of gala dinners, dinner dances and balls taking place up and down the country and the dress code is often stated as Black Tie which is pretty easy for men to interpret but what about for Women?

As you've probably guessed Black Tie for Men simply means an evening suit or tuxedo which should be Black with a white dress shirt and bow tie. The options for Women though are pretty wide spread.

If you wanted to wear a full on ball gown then go ahead but it's not strictly necessary and certainly don't be tempted to go for a Tiara as they should really be kept for weddings or a White Tie Event.

What ever dress you choose for a Black Tie Event the emphasis should be on elegance so don't choose something that you would wear for a night out clubbing for example and it certainly shouldn't be to short.

A full length evening dress is a safe choice but it doesn't have to be stupidly expensive or the type of dress that you could never wear again.

However you don't have to choose a long dress a sophisticated cocktail dress is also acceptable as are prom style dresses.

As for jewellery pretty much any thing goes but a black tie event is a great opportunity to bring out the bling.

There are many high street stores that I can recommend that will sell suitable dresses to wear to a black tie event and I have listed them below.

Coast - Coast stock a wide range of beautiful dresses and they really do specialise it dresses for really special occasions.

Debenhams - Department Stores usually have concessions for formal wear.

Monsoon - One of my favourite high street stores and especially at this time of year they sell some very beautiful dresses and usually a good choice of full length dresses or beaded designs.

Words are all very well but I wanted to provide you with some inspiration so here are a few designs that I noticed at the stores mentioned above that are perfect to wear to a black tie event.

My first stop was to take a look at mail order company La Redoute, French fashion brought to the UK. This vintage inspired sleeveless dress caught my eye. I love the nude fabric teamed with antique black lace. Nude shades can be difficult for many to pull off but the Black lace positioned at the neckline and the hem will help prevent you from looking washed out. This Ted Baker Julieta Dress is truly stunning. Whilst the design is rather demure it's very classy and striking due to the vibrant colour and the frill around the neckline and hem. It isn't clingy either so will skim over any lumps and bumps that you want to hide and yet is is quite short so a great way to show off fabulous legs. Colleen Rooney has launched a great range of clothing for mail order company Very.co.uk. I think she makes a great role model and she is more natural looking than many of the Wags that grace the pages of glossy magazines. Her clothing range is really accessible for the modern woman. This embellished dress from the range is a real highlight and it's proving to be a big hit with Very Customers as it's one of their best selling dresses. It's easy to see why as it has a very feminine shape that doesn't expose to much flesh. The shape is very forgiving and will suit most body shapes especially pear shaped Women. The sparkly high waist band draws eyes upwards as does the embellished neckline. It's great to see the range also caters for plus size Women. It can be difficult to find glamorous plus size Christmas Party Dresses so well done to Very who are stocking this gorgeous creation in size 8 - 24. Price £59.00. So far in this feature all the styles shown have been fairly short in length which is perfect if the dress code is for cocktail wear. However for more formal parties a full length dress may be more suitable or maybe you just don't like your legs and prefer to keep them covered. This Black Scarf Pleated Long Dress by Wallis just boasts 1970's glamour, though the pleats at the front of the dress are bang on trend for 2011. The skinny gold belt really breaks up the design. Many beaded and embellished dresses can be very expensive so I think this find from Dorothy Perkins is a real steal. A floaty and feminine design that is covered in pretty beads. I'm a real fan of strapless A-Line dresses they are perfect for pear shaped girls or anyone who isn't keen on their tummy, hips or bum. In fact I have a wardrobe of them. This Ottoman Bustier Dress is a classic example. The crumb catcher top will give shape up top for those that have smaller chests and the criss cross design will give the illusion of a teeny waist. The final design to feature in my Top Ten is taken from John Lewis Ad campaign it's the Reiss Hunny Pleated Dress in gorgeous Fuchsia Pink. Reiss have really raised their profile here in the UK this year largely thanks to many of the outfits the Duchess Of Cambridge has been photographed in. The 1970's Trend 2011

I know it's still the middle of August but already we are looking forward to the hottest trends of Autumn 2011. It's quite clear from taking a look at both the catwalks and the high street that many of this season's must have pieces are inspired by 1970's fashion.

Here I have picked out some of the best 1970's inspired buys available from high street brands.

Monsoon Fusion Ceres Pleat Dress

This Vintage look silk dress manages to combine many of this seasons key trends such as Pleats and a Pussycat bow. The Nude colouring and Silk fabric combine to add a luxurious feel. Available in sizes 8 -16. Priced at £65.00 I think it's really good value for such a great quality garment. I have to say though if you decide to buy it make sure you wear it as much as possible as this is a high fashion item that you may not want to wear again next Season.

Ax Paris Star Print Chiffon Trousers

Chiffon Trousers and Wide legs are also set to be huge for Autumn 2011. If you don't want to spend a fortune on the 1970's trend then this could be the look for you. Ax Paris have many designs in their new collection including these striking Star Print Chiffon Trousers.

Dorothy Perkins Flared Bead Jumpsuit

Another way to work the 1970's Trend is to don a Jumpsuit for a night out instead of a little dress. One of the great things about a jumpsuit is it guarantee instant glamour. Think 70's disco. This little number from Dorothy Perkins is available in 3 colours, Purple as shown here, Beige or Blue. The beading detail adds glitz but is also really flattering. The low cut neckline draws all eyes upwards and fitted high waist can disguise a less than toned tummy.

Full Circle Dali Skirt

Skirts for Autumn 2011 are knee length and full. Well they are if your going for the 1970's look. Full circle have got it spot on with their Dali Skirt the Midi length is perfect is the weighty fabric that causes flowing thick pleats. Top top it all off it has a smart belt to cinch in that waist. Just add a floaty blouse and a pair of ankle boots and you have a modern take on an old classic. Available in two colours, Moss Green as shown here or Black. To really keep this look authentic I'd recommend going with the earthy Moss Green. Price £75.00. This is a personal favourite of mine.

So we've covered what to wear if you want to work the 1970's trend this season but now we're looking at how to accesorise the look. The Day Bag was launched into 2010 and has quickly become one of the most popular bags in this popular range. The start of 2011 sees a choice of 7 different colours and prints to choose from. All of which you can see below.

Like many bags in the Cath Kidston collection the day range is made from PVC Coated Cotton or Oilcloth as it's commonly known. Oilcloth is a durable fabric that can be easily wiped clean.

This is a hand held design and the handle of the day bag is made from cotton webbing though it is trimmed with brown leather.

Fully closeable for added security and also features a zip up internal pocket as well as popper pockets on each end of the bag which are really handy for storing your umbrella.
