It's been a long while since I've had some surf shots of myself, I broke down and bought these from the local photog at Hookipa. He doesn't usually get alot of shots at Lanes as he usually shoots straight out front at Hookipa, so I was lucky to get a couple.

And yes, I'm a chronic spraywatcher..

Another clean morning with leftovers from yesterday. Light crowd and fairly consistent made for a good long session. I even went right a couple times today.

New swell filled in overnight as it was only shoulder high yesterday. Lanes was the place to be as the point was full of rip and current. I prefer Lanes anyways cause I don't really care for going right. Light winds and there were photogs on the bluff so I'm hoping for a couple shots to be posted later today.

Took a couple sneaker sets on the head, easily DOH+ but it breaks in pretty deep water so a board ditch and dive worked fine.

Mary has broken her leg badly. She is in pain and in need of your help. Because she lives in the most advanced and wealthiest country on Earth she is not able to access free medical health care.

Let's raise some money so that, at the least, we, her friends, can collectively relieve some of the stress and despair that is no doubt going through her mind as she contemplates the very real and tough decisions that come with trying to pay ridiculous costs in a land that cries freedom and then shackles the 99% with prohibitive health care costs. Let's help her to not have to face every waking moment deciding between bad options. Let's give her cause to at least raise a smile today at the idea that her fellow surfers, and others beyond, care enough about her well being that they are willing to put their money where their mouths are and donate a little bit of cash to help her in her time of trouble. For she is, in short, a dudette, a mother, great roll model and someone we all call friend.

Cracked it at 6am today in anticipation of the Sunday crowd. I was able to get an hour in before things got packed. Shot these after I got out and it was still looking kinda fun as the Kona's were picking up.

Looks like yet another gulf swell will be filling in tomorrow late and run for a couple days with offshores predicted all week.

We've had swell pretty much all week with varying conditions. Kona winds (SantaAnas in California term) kicked up yesterday making the rights open up and hollow at the point. The lefts over at Lanes had alittle bump but still fun.

The day before it was sheet glass all morning which is very rare.

Lines to the horizon

Peahi aka "Jaws" put on a show yesterday. I got there around 9 and it was already crowded on the cliff. When I left at 11 it was standing room only and more coming. Saw some spectacular waves ridden and mostly shot video (uploading today) and shot a few photos.

Eeeekk!!!

Shot these Monday after the morning session at Lanes. There was a small pod of SUPs picking off the outside sets most of the morning but I still managed to pick a few that they let through. Here's a short video to show how clean it was.

Today should pose to be pretty interesting. The Maui nearshore buoy is reading 11.8 feet at 14.3 seconds.

For those of you that don't know what this means, here's a chart to help understand the conversion to wave height when the swell hits the beach.

Yesterday I saw one of the best (surf) days without wind on the northside. Sheet glass conditions all morning and a healthy size swell (a couple feet overhead) and lined up good.

Today might be a different story as it looks like the winds are already on it at 5am.

I'm not going to make the hour+ drive to Honolua Bay today, but it'll probably be going off good. Instead I'm going to head down and get some footage of a couple spots that I've been curious about, one of them being "Jaws" or Peahi.

2012 starting off on the right foot, shot these last night after my surf. Swell angle was pretty good and most spots were lined up nicely. Buoys this morning are bigger and winds are straight offshore.

Swell kicked in and we made the drive to the west side. It paid off and there were consistent waves all day. My eyeballs are burned from spending the day in the sun surfing for many hours. Pigdog tubes all day, these photos don't do it justice as it was bigger, just didn't take time to shoot as I was surfing all day.

Arrived to pickup and Jeff was busy in the fumes.

Finished product, just as I imagined.

If you're ever coming to Maui and don't want to ship your boards, order ahead of time through Jeff Timpone and support surfer labor. Probably one of the best customs I've ordered in regards to getting exactly what I had in mind. Can't wait to get this baby in the water!

Swell filled alittle from yesterdays dribble session. Winds came up also which made it marginal. Looks like another DOH+ swell is supposed to hit Thursday night.

Talked to Jeff Timpone this morning at the beach, my board is shaped and in line for glassing. Might be done by the weekend. Excited to get on a thruster (did i really just say that?!!?!) and get vertical...the quad has just too wide to lay on rail when it's over shoulder hi.
