What if your media library comprises of too large amount of data? You won’t be able to fit the same on your iOS devices. So, here is the solution to your problem to run Plex Media Server on iOS devices.

So, basically I am going to show you two methods to do the same. Lets begin with the first method.

Method 1 :- Stream .mkv file with Plex

Have you been wondering till date that what actually Plex Media Server is? Well, than Plex Media Server runs with Windows and Mac. It scans all of your videos, photographs and music as well. The smart thing about Plex Media Server is its automatic bifurcation into different categories of TV shows, movies and so on. Not only this but also fetches episode’s information and other metadata directly from the internet.

Step 1 : First you’ll require to download the Plex From here.

Step 2 : After the Plex is downloaded, launch this application. After the application is launched successfully you’ll be able to find out an icon of “arrow” on the top menu bar of Mac. For windows this same icon will be available below i.e. in tray icons. When you’ll open this, you’ll be asked to sign up which is not mandatory so you can skip it.

To start Plex Media Server, click this arrow icon and go to the media and then the media server will open as shown in the below screen shot.

Step 6 : After it is downloaded, launch the app nad locate the VLC icon at the top right corner to open the side menu. After opening “Slide Menu“, Select the local network from the slide menu.

Step 7 : After selecting you’ll b able to see Plex media Server’s icon in UPNP section in which you need to locate your folder.

Method 2 :- Sync your .mkv file with “VLC For ios” App

The above method is useful only when you are in a wifi network and when you have your PC to work with you, but what when you are travelling somewhere but still you want to make use of this? Don’t worry, I have a solution for the same in this second method.

You are very well aware about the fact that iTunes do not allow you to sync .mkv files. So, lets proceed with another method.

Step 1 : Open your VLC app and select the slide menu from the upper left corner and ON the button of “wifi upload” lying in that menu as shown in the below picture.

Step 2 : Now copy the IP address you’ll find below “wifi upload” option, and paste this IP in your browser and hit enter. In my case http://192.168.1.102. After pressing enter, a page for uploading file will open as shown below.

Step 3 : After you are done with this step click the “+” button to upper left corner and you’ll find out an option of file upload. Check out the pic below.

Step 4 : Now select the .mkv file you want to sync and wait till it gets synced.

After the status of the sync shows complete, open VLC in your iOS device and select all files from slide menu and find out your synced file. Now sway on the tunes you want to. Enjoy.

How to Change the Start Screen Background in Windows 8

Windows 8’s new Start screen has been hotly debated since the operating system launched in preview mode earlier this year. Acknowledged by some as a bold step into the tablet market, and criticized by many others who prefer the familiar desktop experience, the new 'Modern UI Style' home is here to stay. But beyond not offering a way to bypass this screen (not without the help of third-party utilities), surprisingly Microsoft is also limiting your options when it comes to customizing the Start screen's appearance. You can choose from a couple color schemes and 10 stock background images, but that's about it.

We've seen some workarounds before but they require firing up the HEX editor to modify system files, and you are still limited to 256-color background images in a handful of specific sizes. That’s more work than most people are probably willing to bother with and as you can imagine the results are not quite optimal.

Enter Decor8. Stardock’s latest Windows 8 customization app removes this limitation by giving users the ability to pick any picture they want, regardless of size or color range, as the Start screen background.

The program is pretty straightforward to use. Upon launching Decor8, you’ll be presented with a set of background images to choose from, including the start screen and desktop background images that Windows 8 ships with and also a set of wallpapers that Stardock ships with the app. You get the usual fill, fit, tile and center options available in the classic desktop, and the program will automatically create a color scheme to match each of your background images -- or you can manually customize the color scheme if you’re so inclined.

You can add folders to the program to use your own photos and images as background. There’s also the option to select multiple background images by holding down the Ctrl key, and have them rotate on a set time interval, as well as the option to fade background images against the start screen color for a subtle effect.

Sadly, Decor8 is not free. Stardock offers a free 30-day trial but otherwise asks a modest $4.99 for the app. It’s a little unnerving to pay for such basic functionality but if you wish to customize the Windows 8 Start screen beyond what Microsoft offers this is the easiest-to-use tool we’ve found. It does one thing and it does it well.

Other useful Windows 8 tweaks

While we are at it, you may want to revisit other ways to customize and tweak Windows 8 to your liking.

Bring back the classic start menu. Another common complaint about Windows 8 is the lack of the old and trustworthy Start menu button on the desktop. Fortunately there are a handful of replacements available from third-parties, including the open source Classic Shell, Stardock’s Start8, and Pokki.

Simplify search. Windows search isn't perfect. Some of us would argue it's been getting worse. Although you can't do much about this you can make results less cluttered by excluding some apps you don’t intend to use. Go to Win + I > Change PC Settings > Search to manage the search list.

Restart Explorer. If Explorer locks up for some reason, there’s no need to close the process any more. Just hit press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open the Task Manager, select Explorer in the list, and click Restart on the bottom-right corner of the window (or through the right-click contextual menu).

Install Windows 8 From a USB Drive, Dual-boot with XP, Vista and 7

If you're familiar with the process, there isn't much for you to see here, but this should serve as a quick confidence booster for anyone who hasn't installed an operating system recently.

Step One

Download Windows 8 and the Windows 7 USB/DVD tool

If you're not sure what version of Windows 8 to download, we'd recommend the 64-bit build, especially if your system is relatively modern. You can read more about the difference between 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems here and the download page linked above provides system requirements for each architecture. The short of it: Windows 8 64-bit requires an extra 1GB of RAM and 4GB of storage -- negligible for most users. Also, before you ask, the Windows 7 USB/DVD tool will work fine with Windows 8.

Step Two

Create a bootable Windows 8 USB drive

Naturally, to create a bootable USB drive, you'll have to insert one and it needs to be 4GB or larger. Install the Windows 7 USB/DVD tool. Once the utility opens, you should be able to browse for and select the Windows 8 ISO you downloaded as well as the USB drive you inserted. It's worth noting that your USB drive will be wiped, so save anything important. The process takes about five minutes depending on the speed of your drive. You'll see a message that reads "backup completed" when it's done.

Step Three

Install the Windows 8 Release Preview (key: TK8TP-9JN6P-7X7WW-RFFTV-B7QPF)

Needless to say, back up anything important before proceeding. If you plan to upgrade or overwrite your installation of Windows XP, Vista or 7, open the root directory of your USB drive in Windows Explorer and launch Setup.exe to begin. You'll get to choose between the two. Windows 7 users should have a painless upgrade as programs, Windows settings as well as user accounts and files are imported. However, Windows 8 won't save programs from Vista and it won't save programs or Windows settings from XP.

If you want to dual boot Windows 8 with your existing operating system, you'll have to install a second storage device or create a new partition. The former is relatively self-explanatory, just attach the drive and choose it during the installation process. The latter, however, requires a little more effort. Vista and 7 users can create a new partition with Windows' Disk Management application (Start > search for Disk Management). Once the application loads, you should see your operating system's drive. Follow these steps:

Right click the drive that you want to house Windows 8 and choose "Shrink Volume" (Windows 8 64-bit requires at least 20GB, so shrink your current partition accordingly)
Right click the new "Unallocated" space and create a "New Simple Volume"
Choose the next available drive letter and quick format the partition with NTFS (you can name the volume anything, but we'd suggest something like Windows 8 RP x64)

Windows XP users will have make partition adjustments with a third-party tool such as Partition Logic, but you'll do the same thing: shrink one volume to create another. It should be smooth sailing from here as Microsoft's installation process guides you through everything. Just boot off your Windows 8 USB drive, choose a custom installation and select your newly created partition. If you're having trouble launching the USB drive, you probably just have to put it ahead of your system drive in the BIOS (look for boot options).

If you want to get rid of Windows 8, load your primary OS and launch partition software (again, Disk Management for Vista or 7 users). Delete the Windows 8 volume and extend your remaining partition into the freshly unallocated space. Removing Windows 8 could screw up your bootloader and prevent your original OS from starting properly. Don't panic, this is a simple fix. Windows Vista and 7 users can use the automatic Startup Repair, while Windows XP users will have to get their hands a little dirtier.

Windows 8 Boot Issues? Try Fixing the Master Boot Record (MBR) or Boot Configuration Data (BCD)

Windows 8 received a decent amount of enhancements on the desktop side that I tend to appreciate versus running Windows 7, even if that means I get Metro standing in the middle here and there occasionally. One such area of improvement is notification management and how it handles updates and system restarts. Running the final version of the OS for a few months now, it’s been a painless affair until this past weekend.

I shut down my desktop PC with the purpose of connecting new hardware and on the way out I was prompted to “update and shutdown”. Sure, why not. I went on to install a secondary SSD for maintenance purposes and apparently that was enough for my system to refuse booting right after. I tried to backtrack to no avail.

I bet you have no love for the message, neither do I.

Because I had disconnected a few devices, it took me a while to narrow things down to my boot SSD, and for a second I even thought the SSD had gone forever kaput. After booting with a different drive and noting I could read all my data on the drive in question, I took a deep breath and started to troubleshoot the boot record. Once you settle on the idea that it’s not a hardware problem and you are unable to boot up, your best bet is to try to fix the MBR (Master Boot Record).

With a long history of dual booting different versions of Windows over the years, finding a corrupt MBR, boot sector, or Boot Configuration Data (BCD) is nothing new, but it took me longer than usual to come to a solution. Here are a few things you can try and hopefully get back to full speed in no time.

First of all, you will need a bootable disc or pen drive. Here’s a quick guide to accomplish that if you don’t already have one handy. Although it's not a requirement, to be on the safe side it's recommended at this point that you disconnect other storage devices from your PC and leave only the SSD/HDD that you are troubleshooting.

Booting into the Windows 8 setup, select “Repair your computer” in the bottom part of the window, then “Troubleshoot” and “Advanced options”. Here I was given a good reminder of another cool Windows 8 feature. If you have a restore point created you can go back to that working copy of the OS without losing your data. Well, I didn’t have any.

So the first thing you will want to try is the Automatic Repair.

If that fixes your boot problem, you had it easy and go on to create a restore point for another time you are out of luck. If Windows is unable to fix your issue, read on.

Go back to the Advanced options and choose the Command Prompt. Going for the next easiest way to fix the problem, enter the following four commands into the prompt:

bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /scanos
bootrec /rebuildbcd

After receiving a success confirmation. Close the CMD window and restart your PC.

If you are booted into Windows, excellent! If not, let’s try one last thing. Follow the previous steps until you have landed into the Command Prompt.

Enter the “bcdedit” command. A lists of items will appear under Windows Boot Manager and under Windows Boot Loader. Look for the following items:

Under Windows Boot Manager, the Device item should be set to unknown.
Under Windows Boot Loader, the Device and os device items should be set to unknown.

Run the following three commands to correct the settings:

bcdedit /set {default} device partition=c:
bcdedit /set {default} osdevice partition=c:
bcdedit /set {bootmgr} device partition=c:

One last thing to try (though in theory, it's the repeating what we’ve done before) browse to the folder X:SourcesRecovery and then enter “StartRep.exe” which executes another automated startup repair utility.

Facebook Releases a New Beta with Saving Photos and Much More

After a long time spent in mediocrity Facebook seems to have taken seriously their Android application, and, thanks to the feedback obtained through the new beta testing program (Go here after the following link) , wants to bring tangible improvements to it. This new beta announced today follows that of the 3.4 version , released a few days in the stable version . Let’s see the changes made ??in the update today.

Saving Photos : Option has been added to save photos from the image viewer
Menu Bar : Removed the menu bar at the bottom of the app for devices that do not have a physical menu button
Scrolling notifications : coming to the end of the recent notifications, the older ones will be loaded automatically
Uploading photos in the newsfeed : Solved a problem that makes some people see empty spaces where there should be photos
Bug Fix: Solved some of the problems that caused the application to crash
Facebook Home : If you use Facebook Home, the status bar will be shown by default in the top of the lockscreen

The Facebook Team warns us that not all the news described features may be available from the start, in fact, could be activated to come gradually; also no news about the new graphics that some of the beta testers (not me) have received in the previous version , this update should be available on Google Play, assuming that you have joined the beta program for Facebook.
