Hey guys!

This Summer has been an absolutely crazy one! I'm sorry I haven't been here as much as I should BUT!!! I have some really exciting news to share with you all very soon. EEEK!! This secret has been keeping me very busy and will be something to look forward to in the new year! Can you guess :)

But in the mean time I've been designing prints for Beta Fashion's new project "Dreaming in Colour"

Its great fun and a brilliant oppotunity for students and unknown print designers to get their work out there and possibly produced! (They do the most BEAUTIFUL silk scarves and as if I wasn't addicted enough already huh!)

Anyway I wanted to share with you how I start my Print Designing.... I ALWAYS start with hand drawing whether its the outline or a detail or anything that comes to mind it just helps stop the image looking too stiff and computerised... (if that's even a real word?!)

Then, usually using a combination of promarkers, pencils and watercolours I start to build up a background image that I can use as my colour story so the work has a strong theme running through it. This can be inspired from the subject itself or wherever your whim takes you!

I created this background image using Promarkers and pencils. I layered them adding more and more detail each time. I then scanned the image in on my printer (wahoo technology!) and edited the colours in Photoshop to get a good match to what I wanted! Now seeing as hexagons work wonderfully with bees, and they work wonderfully with them (hello honey, i'm home) I layered them ontop slightly adjusting the transparency!

With a little more playing around I managed to create a final image I was proud of!

TADA!!!

I then repeated the pattern and rotated it to get a good repeat print!

Ohhhhh I just love it when it's repeated!!!!

Hello my loves.

I don't know why I am being such a bad blogger but it's the summer now, I have 13 GLORIOUS FUN FILLED WEEKS FOR YOU ALL! TUTORIALS AND EVERYTHING!!!!! I hope you're as excited I am! I've been working on some new projects to show you but here is a little something I made yesterday. It was fun and messy two thing that I love.

I learnt this at The Make It Room they run super craft workshops I even teach some there myself!

I'm trying to curb the lost feeling I get so often in the Summer when I have no definite plans. With all the freedom and time to do what ever I want I end up doing.... nothing. Which makes me feel completely uninspired so I'm trying waking up early LIST MAKING (my favourite) and keeping busy. Strictly NO sitting down! But I think I need some help, how do you keep organised and efficient on your holidays???

Any advice would be AMAZINGALINGADINGDONG

Hey guys!
I know I've been a bit scatty the past few months but this uni year has been a little mad SO as disorganised as I am I have made the decision to become ORGANISED. You who know me may laugh... but a girl can try! So out comes a brand new diary... paper clips, staples, folders and bin bags. (tidy room/office first step)...
Does anyone have any advice!? ahhh!

Hey my loves!!

I have something VERY exciting for you today!

LOOK! Crafts Beautiful Magazine posted a sneak peak photos of my cakes that I made for their June Issue!

It was a really interesting project for me as I hadn't made cakes of this size before, always smaller! But these were at least 5cm wide! But then I had a SUPER idea!!! I thought I could make replicas of Wedding cakes so you can always have a little bit of it... what do you think?
Anyway I am super excited to see the whole article, I promise to post photos when I get a copy!

This is Bramley, he's our 14 week old Bouvier Des Flandres! You might remember my Buster we were dogless for 6months but now we have this little trouble maker. HE IS TOO CUTE!!!

Hey Tea Birds! Remember me???

Well you could say that I have been in hibernating but the truth is I'm back at Uni and this year is far more intense than last! But I celebrated my 21st birthday this week! (CAN I GET A WOOOOOOHOO please).

No, 21 isn't that much of a big deal here, it's nothing that I couldn't do already! BUT more importantly little mr blog right here turned ONE! My babies growing up!!!

Make your own recycled ball of yarn! (I've missed you guys!)

HELLO! How are you all!? It's been far too long. It's been a crazy couple of months and I know... I've neglected you! I'll try not to again! But here!! Is a great little winter tutorial where you really feel like you've made something almost from scratch! Plus it's recycled too! Which makes you feel even better :) and that makes it cheap! HOORAH!!

Here it goes!!

YOU WILL NEED:

At least 3 old stretch t-shirts in any colours

A pair of scissors

Knitting needles

Start by cutting all the seams and edges off your t-shirts. For example I cut off the seams, neckline and sleeves (because mines short sleeves it int really worth the effort, there isn't enough fabric really to save here as the strips are too small. However if yours are long sleeves that's a lot of fabric so use them!)

Now, Cut the t-shirt into strips about half an inch wide. I fold the t-shirt in half because then its half the amount of cutting! This is the important part: You want to cut the fabric the way that it stretches. By that I mean most t shirts will stretch around the stomach rather than in the length this is to accommodate all our different shapes and sizes! So just think about it as you are cutting the t-shirt as if you want to make it shorter in the length! Like a crop top, but all the way to the top!

Gather your strips up and move onto the next t shirt!

This will soon be your yarn!!

To make this into one long piece of yarn what you need to do is snip a hole in both ends of every strip. Once this is done all you have to do is thread one strip through the hole in the next and loop it back through the hole in it's other end and then pull it tight. It's that easy! Now you just have to do it to the rest. Once you have done a few and before you start to roll it into a ball you have to pull the yarn all the way between your hands, you will see it starts to double in length. This is why it is important that you cut the fabric in the right direction.

Now, you may ask... What can I do with this now? How can I use it? WELL... I was dying for a snood, a good old tubular scarf! And these are my winter colours! So i cast on 70 stitches on 8mm needles and ribbed every 2 stitches. It is so so warm!!!! And comfortable too! I haven't taken it off :) If you don't want to do that you could knit a normal scarf or maybe even a cushion cover. Why not crochet with it?! When I have time and enough rubbish t shirts that I don't wear anymore I'm going to make a blanket! I cant imagine anything more warm and cosy!

Where did the summer go? I mean suddenly it's cold and beautiful mornings rather than sticky afternoons. I'm not complaining. I want to go for long walks with my dog (now, I don't have a dog at the minute- we are inbetween pets, but come January we will be owners to our beautiful pupsicle. HOORAH HOORAH I am all too excited- this is how beautiful he will be) OFF SUBJECT. So today I found myself doing what I would do if it was January.

Fishtail Plait- Why can't you have a prettier name?

Hey there Mr Tuesday. I hope you are well.

Hows it going!? Today I am showing you my Fishtail plait tutorial! Easy peasy. I always have people asking me if I can show them how or if I can do it in their hair for them... I even once remember going round my entire art class fishtailing everyone hoorah hoorah! I find this tutorial works best if your hair is not freshly washed as it has a tendency to just slip out. Plus the longer your layers the better!

So all it is is overlapping small sections of hair from one side to the other. The smaller the sections the more intricate the braid will look. Once you have pulled a small section from one side over to the other hold the entire side with one hand while you select the next section. You only need to hold one side at a time as holding that side keeps the other in place! Far easier than it looks or sounds!

My advice is... Just keep practicing! Hope this goes well for you all!

Hey hey hey! Happy Thursday! Hope you're all well.

Let me give you the run through of this tutorial! I was a little bored of having vaguely cotton candy coloured hair, if this was all over my thick thick head of hair I would be only too happy. However I am too scared of taking that leap. So, the bolder the better? Right? I don't know but I'm pleased with how this turned out!!! What do you think!?

1. Make sure hair is tangle free! For me, MASSIVE deal (I just have to look at my hair and knots appear. I have learnt to deal with it, eventually. I just have to live off 4 day hair. Yes, four day hair is when it does what its told. When styling AND look peaks. "Gross" some of you may say- you everyday washers and I envy you and your silken flowing locks but I, Jessica must live with goodlookin' dirty hair.- Once I didn't brush my hair for six weeks. Yes, I can hear the screams now. don't judge. I looked just like the love of my life heart russell brand heart and several small rodent families formed a nest at the back of my head. I was never alone. Anyway off point) your hair can be dry, wet, dirty or clean it just has to be knot free.

2. Section hair up. I went for the top/bottom approach however the left/right is also acceptable especially if you hair is thinner, If you have bushman hair like mine that is too thick to swing a cat at (not endorsing animal cruelty in anyway, totally against it. Just a figure of speech) then the top/bottom technique is best.

3. The fun part begins. I decided to go for dark tulip and violet (La Riche- Directions) and used conditioner to make the colours lighter in places. I literally just stuck a paint brush in one pot, onto my hair and then back in the pot, into the conditioner, back onto hair rub with hand covered in cling film. Bish bash bosh done. (Thinking about recreating famous painting in my hair how about Monets Water lily's next?)

4. REPEAT

5. If like me you are too lazy to find gloves then you will end up with pink hand, AS SEEN ABOVE. It WILL come off... eventually. I joke I usually bath while waiting to the colour to develop and it comes off then.

6. BEAUTIFULLY wrap your hair up in a shower hat or cling film to protect clothes/furniture and to stop your shoulders, neck and in my case back turning peculiar colours.

7. Rinse until water comes clear.

DRY AND STYLE!

Hey tea birds and September bugs.
Happy happy Monday to you all and where did that come from? September too,talk about out of the blue. I swear if you're on holiday for the beginning of the month it's like hat month never even happens... Or is that just me?

1. This is QUITE CLEARLY my "HOLIDAY TOMORROW" face, never mind the fact we had to get up before the sun even showed its pretty bright face.
2. Finally at the beautiful beach week, swoon swoon. Come back August, let's do it again. I want sun sand and sea in my eyes. Because what's the beach without a little bit of pain. Gotta be with me here!

Hey Tea birds, Summer is almost over. Who agrees, LEAST favourite time of year?

It's not that I don't want to go back to University it's just... I don't! I like it and all.. but I want to do what I want to do, you get me!? (are you with me or are you with me!? I'm with me)

I'm one of those people who when I have nothing to do I am totally unproductive (is it me or is that a terrible sounding word, unproductive. It may sound bad but it means what I means. You means me? means starting to sound weird too now right? means.) ANYWAY. If I have 1001 things to do I can guarantee I will get at least double that done. So, going back to work WILL be good for me and my blogging will improve for it, and what do we want if not an improved blogger hey!? So secretly my mixed feelings about re-enrolling are just feelings of excitement? See how I am coaxing myself back into wanting to go..? It might just work..? AS MUCH as I love watching Gilmore Girls all day and playing Gnome Town (she says in hushed tones- please don't tell anyone!) I just want to want to do things again and to get things done.

But today is my anniversary with my lovely boy and it's a long story but the is our second first anniversary... Details another time! I spent the day baking peanut butter cups, his favourite AND Oreo cheesecake cake his favourite three things- cheesecake cake and Oreos ahhh. Personally, cheesecake YUCK.
