Let us all remember that Jesus Christ is the reason for the season.

I would like to share this quote with you:

God's Gift

"Christmas gifts? There were none at that time. The Wise Men came later with their offering."

"But God now gave His gift to the world-

that of His Only Begotten Son. And this divine Son by His very birth gave Himself as the greatest Gift of all time."

"He would provide the plan for our salvation. He would give His life that we might rise from the grave and have a happy life in the eternities, forever. Who could give more?"

"What a gift this was think what it means to us! We can learn patience, devotion, and faithfulness such a Mary had. And like her Son we can follow the true gospel principles, being in the world but not of the world."

(Mark E. Peterson, "His Gift to the World, "New Era, Dec 2002, 8)

Me and my family would like to wish you all a very "MERRY CHRISTMAS & A HAPPY NEW YEAR!"

by

Queenie1

Christmas recipes - Easy Toffee Squares

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 145px; height: 160px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBQbs9hq_mvEY1FyDfL2_CIlQydQlkYQ9PY1PNJX6PmdY2Ee968SdPzdV76MlYU-nF9fFzv5t7ExJCLgPDrVmRmG49Hxx0d2fI2V1JdI5I8DyYS0QKx9WzyLoGA3x56Rsx5gxQuopuOT_e/s320/thumbnailCAIXJW3R.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5416665016983112386" />
This recipe is so simple, easy and delicious. Our family love this treat!

24 graham cracker squares
1c light brown sugar
1/2c butter
1c chopped walnuts (almonds, etc)

Lightly grease cookie sheets and place graham crackers around the cookie sheets. In a small pot stir butter and sugar and heat 3 min until butter melted and the sugar dissolves and thickens. Pour the liquid over the graham crackers on the cookie sheets.

Bake 5-6 min until bubbly.

Remove from oven quickly as you don't want it to burn. (Optional - you can put some tiny marshmallows in the bag too)

This recipe makes 1 serving but you can double or triple the batch as it's east too.

Attach a little note to the bag: Add 1 c of hot water or mix in 1 c cold water and prepare in the microwave.

Christmas Recipes - Jube Jube Marshmallow Popcorn Balls

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 219px; height: 211px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjo1zXMUKcYNMK57epbPnrVoqW7R-K_GW6Bmk65epkAOiyhSpzRni5Ica3nq-kkrdfgll8yT5RSf0AdrkCgqsiFORjvQNNTDHLb5wskScVkaZhcuK7f236tvpInpPxJ8OJA44CeCTC6U9fh/s320/tree16.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5408908621266953762" />
This is a very easy, delicious popcorn ball treat that my family just loved each Christmas. It is easy to prepare like rice crispie squares.

Ingredients

3 qts or 12c of popped pop corn
1/4c butter
1 (10 oz)bag of marshmallows
1 small bag of baking jube jubes (optional)

Method:

1. Pre - butter muffin tins or cookie sheets to put the popcorn balls on
2. Pop popcorn and put into a large bowl or roasting pan and set aside. Mix in small baking jube jubes with the popcorn or add them after with the marshmallow mixture which ever way you prefer.
3. In a heavy pot melt butter and marshmallows at a low heat and stir constantly so it doesn't burn.
4. When all marshmallows are melted pour the mixture onto the popcorn and jube jubes until they are well coated.
5.Grease your hands with some butter first then grab some popcorn ball mixture and shape it into a ball. I would let my children help me do this step. Put the popcorn balls into a muffin tin or on a cookie sheet and continue until you use up all the popcorn mixture.
6. Put them into the fridge to harden quicker and then you can put them into a container and keep them in the fridge to hold their shape. You can keep them on a plate but they soften. They are great gifts to give as well.

Optional: You can use food colour and food flavours instead of jube jubes if you wish but mix the food colour and food flavour in the pot when you finished melting the marshmallows. If you can't find any baking jube jubes you can buy the regular jube jubes and cut them into smaller pieces as this works as well.

These are a delicious treat and they never lasted long in my home.

Christmas Recipes - Candy Cane Cookies

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 188px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifsg5V_M3iKr_jAM7C95L85m2NcmyS3J3f6LdCAeN5WzObz9YOK6HgBO-k3pgSMIOnpj-weaeC2TyZ-2ymlp0j9ooxoR7und9ND6qIa8RkQYn14zSbrtNt9S7bn4FxgwDX3sn-MTWNOncC/s200/candy-cane07.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5406185087836483474" />
Candy Cane Cookies

1 c butter
1 1/4 c powdered sugar (place 1/4 c in a small bowel)
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
1 1/3 c white flour
1 c rolled oats
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 c crushed peppermints (crush candy canes on sheet of wax paper with a rolling pin)

Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

Mix butter, powdered sugar (icing sugar) until creamy and then add vanilla and mix.

In a separate bowl mix flour, oats, and salt and then mix together. Brown hamburger and then add the celery, green peppers, onion and cook until vegetables are slightly soft.

2. Take your pumpkin and cut the top off like you do when you prepare the pumpkin for carving. Open it up and take out all the seeds and strings. Set it aside until the food is cooked.

3. Add cream of mushroom soup, water and let simmer a few min.

4. Add instant white rice and stir it well.

5. Put your pumpkin on a cookie sheet, pizza pan, cake pan or pie plate for any food that overflows while cooking. You will also serve the meal in a pumpkin on this as it's easier to.

6. Scoop all the hamburger mixture and place into the pumpkin and then put the pumpkin lid on it.

7. I always drew a pumpkin face on the pumpkin with a black magic marker before I cook it as it's too soft and shrinks in the cooking.

8. Set the pumpkin mixture in a preheated oven at 350 degrees and bake 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Check he pumpkin inside with a fork to see if the pumpkin is tender enough and when it's soft it's done.

Leave the pumpkin on the cookie sheet to serve as it's too soft. Scoop some of the tender pumpkin as well with the hamburger meal to eat. This was one of my families yearly favourite treats.

I also would empty a second pumpkin the same way and use it to serve my beverage with the meal. I would put apple juice and cinnamon sticks with ice in it and serve with a punch bowl server. It was a pumpkin, apple juice drink which my family loved.

Have family fun while you eat this delicious meal!

Gross Halloween Food - Spooky Recipes

<object height='350' Have you wondered if you can make them too? You can and I will explain how.
You will need to be prepared to take a whole day to go through the complete canning process. You should prepare ahead of time by going to the hardware store or into a hardware department of a big box store and buying a large canning pot as well as canning jars, canning lids, canning seals for the lids. It is also a very good idea to pick these items up at the end of the summer when canning season ends for next year as the prices are reduced and you can get them much cheaper. The initial cost is greater but the canning pot and jars are reusable year after year so after that it's relatively a lot cheaper to can your food. I like to buy extra seals as I like to replace them each year.
A pressure canning pot is used for canning meats and vegetables. The pressure canning pot comes with an instruction booklet most times which will explain how to use the pot and will have time tables to help you process the meats and vegetables properly. I usually use a regular canning pot to can fruits, jams and jellies. You should also get some long tongs to help you grab your jars out of the canning pot when it's hot after the processing time is done. I also like to use a good quality pair of oven mitts so that I don't get scalded while lifting the jars out of the canning pot when they're finished processing. A wide mouth funnel is also a good item to buy when canning fruit as it will fit into the wide mouth jars and your fruit will go into the jars easier. I also like to put a thick towel down on my counter tops or on my table to put the hot jars that I take out of the canning jars. It picks up any mess from the jars and helps them not to burst from a cool counter top or table.
After the jars are placed on the towel on the counter top they will start to cool down and you will hear some pops when the seals are sealed to the jar. The seal of the lid will also pull in so then you know that the jars are properly sealed. When the jars are cool I like to wipe the jars off if they are sticky and then label the jars with what I put in them and the date so I use the old jars up first.
You can find many recipes for canning on the web or recipe books. I also get recipes for canning or making jams, jellies, etc from the sure-gel, certo, etc that you buy to make the jam. There are many recipes, videos, etc to help you in your canning foods.
You can purchase your produce at the store, roadside fruit and vegetable stands or from your own gardens. Your fruit, vegetables and meats will be your main costs after the initial cost of purchasing the pot, jars, lids and seals next year. What a great savings in the cost of feeding your families.
I find that I feel a great satisfaction after I see the table full of jars of preserves that I just put down. You feel a great sense of accomplishment and you know that you have helped your family by saving money on commercial products. When you give a gift of fresh homemade jams or jellies I've always had such a positive response from the receiver. They usually ask for more.

Resource Box or Author Bio Information:
Jeannette McQueen-Nobbs or Queenie1 has written some articles and was published. It’s one of my family’s favourite recipes!
You need to go to a farmers market, a food stand or else a grocery store and purchase some smaller zucchini’s no longer than 15 inches. If you have 6 adults eating then you will need only 3 zucchinis and less if you have small children but they are also good warmed up later for another meal. Take the zucchini home and wash them off. You will need to cut the zucchini lengthwise in half. One half can feed one adult or be cut into smaller pieces for children so that will help estimate how many zucchini’s you need to purchase for your family.

Ingredients:

Zucchini
1 lb Hamburger
1 16 oz can spaghetti sauce
1 Spanish onion
1 c Mozzarella cheese

Method:

Take a spoon and scoop out the zucchini centres of the zucchini halves to make the long zucchini's look like little boats. Put the scooped zucchini pieces into a bowel and cut into smaller pieces to use in the recipe.
Fry about 1 LB of hamburger with 1 Spanish onion. Drain the fat from the hamburger.
Get a 16-oz can of tomato or spaghetti sauce to add to the hamburger and onions. Now simmer on medium heat and add the scooped zucchini pieces so they soften. Cook for 10-20 min until the zucchini pieces are soft.
While this is cooking get some mozzarella cheese and grate it until you have about ½ - 1 cup.
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees and take a cookie sheet to put the zucchini boat shells on. When the mixture of hamburger, onions, zucchini pieces are soft scoop the mixture into the zucchini boat shells until higher than the sides of the boat. It's okay to be rounded up high in the centre of the boat. Take some of the grated mozzarella to sprinkle on top of the zucchini boats. Bake for 30 - 40 min until the outside zucchini boat shell is tender so you can eat it like a squash.
This is a great way to feed a family a low fat meal like pizza without the flour. It's also good for vegetarians too if you just substitute the meat for something that you can eat.

Resource Box or Author Bio Information:Jeannette McQueen-Nobbs or Queenie1 has written some articles and was published. It’s one of my family’s favorite recipes! Even my ex-husband commented this was one of his favorites.

Take a spoon and scoop out the zucchini centers of the zucchini halves to make the long zucchini’s look like little boats.

It’s okay to be rounded up high in the center of the boat. Take some of the grated mozzarella to sprinkle on top of the zucchini boats. Bake for 30 – 40 min until the outside zucchini boat shell is tender so you can eat it like a squash.

This is a great way to feed a family a low fat meal like pizza without the flour. It’s also good for vegetarians too if you just substitute the meat for something that you can eat.

How To Make Jams and Preserves

Excellent video how to make homemade jams!

Home Cooking Lays the Foundations For a Healthy Body

May 26, 2009, 6:29 pm visits: 61 wordcount: 557

By Sunil PunjabiFast food restaurants may be a dime a dozen these days, but would their easy recipes ever erase the memory of the perfect dishes that your mother dished out, when you came home famished, from school or the playground? Today, all family members, including mothers themselves, grab a bite from the nearest fast food eatery, before they hop back into the office. Dinner may be a pizza oozing with cheese, that either parent picked up on their way home. Flavors of home cooking have been forgotten memories today that visit you only in your dreams. All the fat from the cheese and chips that fast food chains gift, nestle in your body and most of it is seen deposited around the midriff. These fats live in the place of the essential nutrients that home cooking might have provided. From a theoretical point of view, everyone agrees that fast food delicacies are deadly concoctions that their bodies do not need. People do grow nostalgic now and then about home cooking recipes and smells that wafted from grandmother's kitchen, but somehow they go back to their fast food eateries, like an addict going back to his bottle. People have to be de-addicted from it, and giving them free recipes is one way of attracting people back to cooking wholesome food at home. A balanced diet is the ultimate requirement for staying healthy, and one way - rather the only way - in which this can be managed, is by home cooking. There are plenty of home cooking recipes, and easy recipes at that, which make the dishes tasty and provide the necessary nutrition. Tasty dishes are the best way to make mealtimes a pleasure, and perfect mealtimes in which everyone join, are the best way to make family members bond together. In short, home cooked food and the dinner table can become the factor that knits the family together. Dieticians and nutrition experts strongly recommend home cooking. While medical expertise itself endorses the need for home cooked food, simple layman's wisdom is sufficient to understand the importance of cooking at home with recipes that ensure a balanced intake of food. People of developing countries rely less on fast food chains for subsistence, and most of the households in these countries have hundreds of recipes that have been handed down through generations. These are time tested and proven, with unchallengeable nutritive values and taste. They have their own traditional spices and herbs and marinades, and each recipe is unique in its own way. Cooking is an art, and a well laid out table is a symbol of the interest a person takes in the family's health, its gastronomic delights, and the bonding among the members of the family. Nothing will help this interest and care better than easy recipes. There are plenty of tasty and free recipes which may have a rather long preparation time and may require too much of labor. While these have their charm, they may frighten off the beginners, and make them indifferent to cooking. So start with the easier recipes, which can be whipped up quickly. While making the food simple, try to change the recipes, so that there is some variety. Somehow or other make the mealtimes attractive so that the family is attracted less and less to the junk food that goes by the name fast food. Please do visit our site for hundreds of Free and easy Recipes for Home Cooking - Veg Recipes, Vegan Recipes, salads, soups, main course dishes, chili recipes, Appetizer recipes, desserts, Cookie Recipes, Chocolate recipes, and an extensive cooking guide.Source:www.isnare.com
Fun Kool-Aid Jelly

By Jeannette McQueen-Nobbs

This fall I decided that I would make my husband some beet grape jelly for his toast. Years ago when I was a young mother living in Southern Alberta, Canada a woman from my church taught me to save the water from cooking my beets. She told me to strain the beet water from the roots and pour the beet water through cheesecloth to get the impurities out. I stored the beet water in an container in the refridgerator until I was ready to use it.

I learned that when I cut the beet tops off that I could use the tops like spinach by boiling them and eating the beet tops with butter and salt just like spinach.

The beet roots were cooked and eaten hot with butter and salt or pickled. The beet is a wonderful vegetable as you can use all of it and there's no waste.

Beet Grape Jelly

1 package grape Kool-Aid, no sugar added
1 package pectin (Certo, Sure-Jell, etc.)
1 packet of unflavoured gelatin (Knox, etc.)
3 cups granulated sugar
3 cups water

1. Mix water with Pectin, Kool-Aid, and unflavoured gelatin together in a pot.
2. Bring to a boil and then stir constantly.
3. Stir in sugar.
4. Stir and bring to a full rolling boil.
5. Boil 1 min.
6. Remove from the heat.
7. Quickly skim off the foam with a large metal spoon.
8. Pour into jelly canning jars and seal.

I decided to try the same recipe for regular Kool-Aid jelly in different flavours.

I did Kool-Aid jelly using different flavours of Kool-Aid.

I made:

Orange/Carrot Jelly-Orange Kool-Aid with a carrot juice drink instead of water.
Raspberry Jelly-Raspberry Kool-Aid and raspberry drink instead of water.
Lime Jelly-Magic Kool-Aid and lime aid drink instead of water.

The beet grape flavour jelly people said tasted like regular grape jelly. I gave away 6 jars of different flavours of jelly that I made and still had 60 small canning jars of jelly left. Everyone I gave the jelly to finished them in one week. My husband finished his jar in a few days. I knew then that I had some good jellies as each person loved the different flavours.

Check out Jeannette McQueen-Nobbs at one of her blogs http://kitchenfun-queenie1.blogspot.com Other links to her other blogs are on her blog as well.

The BBQ Song

Cute little melody for you to enjoy!

It's Barbecue Time: Some Tips And A Great Recipe

August 13, 2009, 3:49 am visits: 16 wordcount 522

By James MawhinneyOf course here in Sunny California we barbecue all year round, but even here Summer time gives us an even bigger excuse to cook outdoors. You need a good barbecue tool set to do it right and a little practice. Remember to keep your grill clean with your cleaning tools. Stainless steel barbecue tool sets like those from Chefmaster will hold up the best. Many gas grills also have side burners and you can cook your mushrooms or other veggies while you are barbecuing that steak, chicken etc. The stainless steel encapsulated pans cook the best since the heat is distributed evenly. This allows you to cut back a little on the grease(butter, oil etc.) Multiple element cookware like Chef's Secret Cookware or Precise Heat Cookware who both offer Waterless Cookware with Multiple element Stainless Steel are good for this. When I lived in Mexico for a few years, one of my friends showed me an interesting trick to clean the grill surface of the barbecue. He cuts an onion in half and rubs it over the surface of the grill. It cleans off the tars beautifully and without caustic chemicals. An alternative to grilling fish is to cook it in an aluminum foil pouch. It is like steaming or poaching but with the aroma of your wood chips or charcoal. I did this when I was sailing a lot (had a small barbecue grill on rails in cockpit. But have used it camping and on my backyard grill as well. You make a boat out of aluminum foil the size of a single portion of fish. You rinse and clean the fish and squeeze lemon or lime juice over it, then pour some dry white wine(optional but delicious), drench in olive oil, then sprinkle Lawry's Seasoned Salt and ground pepper over it. You add your favorite vegetables including onion and green (sweet) pepper, cut potatoes (cut them thin) and green vegetables or squash. Add a little more Lawry's and pepper and I add a little more lemon and oil as well…Seal the pouch and put over the grill. I usually check it in about 20 minutes. Depending on the fish it is usually done but thicker cuts might need a few more minutes. It is delicious. The flavors blend together and you have a one pouch meal. At times with Salmon I don't add the vegetables but the Lawry's, pepper, olive oil, wine and of course lemon juice is a key ingredient. The process is basically a poaching technique. The fish come out moist, light and full of flavor. This is a very healthy technique and it preserves nutrients nicely. Don't over cook but cook it to whatever desired degree you like. Of course for Ahi tuna you can marinate in soy or teriyaki sauce with olive oil and lemon juice. Get your vegetable/fish grill and coat surface with olive oil and put on grill then the Ahi. Sear it 30 seconds each side then maybe a little longer but not too long on each side for seared Ahi. Make certain it is fresh and from a good source since it is basically raw. But, without a few simple grill accessories, it can also be one of the most frustrating ways to cook food. Below are a few must-have accessories for your grill to make your backyard cookout a snap. Grill Of course, to grill food outdoors you need something to grill the food on. Most people would agree that a charcoal grill produces better-tasting food. But, a gas grill is so much more convenient. If you have a gas grill, but want some of that charcoal-grilled flavor, you can add soaked flavored wood chips to a smoker box or foil pouch with holes and sit it directly over the flames. Fire Starter Although charcoal grills produce incredible-tasting food, it can be a bit frustrating trying to light the coals. Most people either use easy-lighting charcoal, or douse the charcoal with lighter fluid. What you have to remember is that you have to allow time for the lighter fluid to burn off before putting your food on the grill or your food could have an unpleasant lighter fluid taste. An easy way to eliminate lighter fluid is to use either a grill chimney or electric charcoal starter. A grill chimney is one grill accessory you shouldn't be without. It's a metal container which allows you to light the briquettes outside of the grill with no fluid, and then transfer the briquettes to the grill when they're ready. Another option is an electric charcoal starter, which are like big prongs you plug in and stick in with your coals while inside the grill. The electric coil heats up the coals, starting them on fire. You do need to have an electrical outlet handy, but it works pretty well. Grill Utensils Resist the temptation to use your indoor utensils on your grill. Why? Because the handles are usually shorter, thus forcing your hands over the flames and heat while you're turning your food items. You can usually get an inexpensive set of 3 or 4 utensils, which include a fork, spatula and tongs. Grill Wok Once you start using a gill wok, you'll be using it all the time. A grill wok is a large heavy-duty steel basket with holes on the bottom and sides, which sits on top of your grill grid. It's great for vegetables, shrimp, cut-up chicken, or a combination of meat and vegetables. It allows you to cook cut-up vegetables and meat without fear of the pieces falling through the grid. Aluminum Foil Aluminum foil is a must when you're cooking outdoors on the grill, so be sure to have plenty handy. Many outdoor cooks prepare a variety of grilled dishes using aluminum foil packets. And, aluminum foil can also be used to clean the grid. Just take a sheet of aluminum foil, crumple it into a ball and you can use it to scrape off food on the cooking grid. When using aluminum foil for cooking, do remember that food can stick to aluminum, so you may need to open the packets from time to time while cooking to stir the food around to prevent sticking. Fire Extinguisher Remember, you're cooking with fire. So, for safety sake, it's good to have a small fire extinguisher handy just in case something happens and the fire gets out of hand. It's also good to follow safety rules while cooking outdoors, which means never cook with a fire outdoors if it's really windy. And, never leave a fire unattended.

Shari Hearn is a writer and creator of Your Backyard World, where you'll find more information on backyard cooking.
Source:www.isnare.com

The Good Barbeque Guide

May 30, 2009, 7:22 pm | visits: 54 | wordcount: 483

By Thomas Kerrin

By far the most popular type of outdoor grill in the UK is the type that uses traditional charcoal as a heat source. Although propane and natural gas based barbeques are less popular and commonplace, no doubt due to the fact that they are a lot more expensive, they do have a number of advantages over the more traditional charcoal grill. Not only are they easier to control and keep clean, they are also a lot healthier due to the comparative lack of harmful emissions when compared to charcoal burning grills. They also heat up quicker, are easier to clean, and produce far less in the way of smoke than their charcoal equivalent. So, if you want to have a successful barbeque experience, there are a number of things that you can do to ensure this: Keep the grill away from anything that might be flammable, such as bushes, trees, or wooden outhouses. Never use your grill indoors, even if you think that there is little or no risk of fire. Make sure that the racks are clean, the cover fits snugly, and that the grill pan doesn't have any fissures or holes in it. Make sure your grill is clean before you fire it up. This is especially important if it is the first time you have used it this year. In particular, get rid of any old ash, as this can turn into a corrosive chemical when mixed with water. A layer of ash that has been created over the course of a grilling session works well as a heat insulator, but old ash will only rust your grill. Be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions regarding the correct lighting method for your grill, as you may damage your grill permanently if you do this the wrong way. The charcoal-like rocks used in gas grills are referred to as lava rocks, and usually come included with the barbeque. These look, and behave, a little like charcoal, but the two are far from interchangeable. You can heat lava rocks many times before they need to be replaced. The rocks are used to retain the heat energy given out by the gas flame, and do not catch light as such. You need to keep these rocks clean if you want to avoid flare-ups caused by grease getting stuck to the rock and then catching fire, which can burn the food. Be sure to clean and replace the rocks according to the instructions given by the manufacturer. After you've finished all your grilling for the day, turn up the gas burner to full power for five minutes or so to burn off any grease and drippings from the lava rocks. Turn and rearrange the lava rocks every so often to ensure even heating and cleaning. If lava rocks look unclean and start to break apart, it is time to replace them. Lava rocks should be no more than one layer deep, so avoid stacking them or your grill will not function correctly

British Gas is the nation's favourite cheap gas and electricity supplier, boiler service provider, and energy efficiency advisor.
Source:www.isnare.com

How To Can Pears

This method is similar to the methods I was taught in canning peaches, pears, plums when I was a young mother.
