Canadian McCarthyism

Today the parliamentary committee for official languages called Hockey Canada officials to the floor to explain why they made Shane Doan the Team Canada captain. Doan was accused of making a slur against a referree during a game.

As anybody who plays hockey or enjoys a good game of hockey will tell you, pissing and moaning about the ref is part of the bloody game. Not to mention that Shane Doan has been proven to not have said what the referree says that he did. Basically its a pretty damn childish thing in the first place, and to bring it before a parliamentary comittee after the NHL and Hockey Canada have already have resolved the issue brings it to an entirely new strata of idiocy.

This should never have been brought before a committee and it definately should not have been a unanimous decision by the committee to have this McCarthy like prosecution of Mr Shane Doan. In my humble opinion this entire waste of money and committee time is a very good reason for any voter who has a MP in the committee NOT to vote for that person in the next election, regardless of party affiliation.

We deserve and I demand a responsible government. Including all MPs, opposition or in power.

Sometimes, anonymous kicks ass!

A comment on my last post by an anonymous reader that was too good to miss;

CTV's Lisa Lafamme put her foot in her mouth when she was on such a time delay that she thought she had the scoup of the century that War-Crimes were committed by our troops , during a CTV interview over the new evidence to expose the Liberal and NDP lies based on a G&M article , the host cut to Lafamme who was beaming as if the Jury was back and it was a slam-dunk Guilty charge.
You would think the media learned from the Arar case that if a canadian newpaper assumed a citizen was guilty by the lack of evidence to prove innocence and it's hearsay 4th and 5th party translations from Arabic printed it as if it was fact, they would at least try to assume our Soldier were innocent before Lisa convicted them by Taliban testimony.
So low and behold the host is trying to stop Lisa from her CNN style rants by Lampour who would talk on and on and fill the 5 second delay for dead-air , Lisa finally took a break and was told of this new evidence , but she insisted the man across the table told her to her face that the claims were true.
When Lisa ran her special to show the taliban where our troops were and the offensive stragedies
by APC's , it was about 2 weeks later the Goddard was ambushed by a sniper that waited for her head to pop up and Lisa showed for scouting the enemy.
The media is now a bunch of weasels selling their souls for a Award on Journalism and they give a damn who gets murdered from the irresponsible filming that the enemy uses to spot the troop positions, the Taliban know the landscape and can spot most hills and hamlets, the road landmine the murdered 6 soldiers was planned based on video evidence from CTV on how our troop advance and where the tires rid in the road surface.
The moron Dawn Black told Charles Adler she was disgusted at the non-air conditioned tanks our troops used in the hot weather over there, but in the next breath
she rants about Harper excalating the Liberal war with big air-conditions tanks with big scarey guns on them.
The NDP are weasels , and maybe Libby Davies, Bill Siksay, and Svend Robinson could visit the Taliban and use Diplomacy to change these misguided Muslims.
If every goes well we'll see them on Al jezeera getting their heads sawed off with a dull knife
and the remains hacked up and tossed to children as a trophy for the idiot westerners that think the Taliban can be changed , Svend's career is over and Layton can't seem to push his ban on Trans-fats while Libby keeps ramming the food down her throat and nneds the House doors greased to fit into Q.P. , Siksay is the biggest fool and Jack will just blame the beheading on the taliban being victims of child abuse and not understanding the true Islam.

If those 3 Amigo's won't stand behind our troops, at least they
can stand infront of them to slow down the bullets and show the taliban how quickly the NDP is willing to be murdered in their false paradise of Diplomacy.

Sorry folks, but the NDP has crossed over the line with the War-Crimes rants and defending Hezbollah and Hamas , three less idiots in canada is fine with me , plus Libby has enough fat for the dogs to live off her for at least 2 weeks.

An Impossible Situation

The big buzz around parliament hill is the Afghan prisoners and the allegations of torture and abuse after being handed over to the Afghan officials. The NDP in particular have been tossing around owrds like war criminals and war crimes in the general direction of the government and especially against our troops. The Liberals are marginally more intelligent in their attacks but no less immoral.

We know very well that the NDP have an absolute hate-on for anybody in uniform especially our valiant troops, who are absolutely and without question NOT war criminals! And I am very very not surprised to hear them take the word of their friends in the Taliban at face value. After all the NDP has been unwavering in their support for the Taliban.

The Liberals are outright liars in several points in this issue;

The liberal defense minister was the one who signed the prisoner transfer agreement yet Ugal Dusange (spelling but I dont care) grilled the conservative defense minister O'Connor about who signed the agreement and when.

The Liberals are also taking the word of the Taliban at face value, or at least are saying that it isnt important who is making the allegations because no matter what, its all the conservatives fault. Even though the prisoner transfer agreement was signed by the liberals.

Unfortunately no matter whose mess it is, the consevative government have been handed the bag and it is up to them to clean up the legal mess, lies or no lies. Canada is culpable for anything that is happens or is alleged to have happened to our prisoners by international law, law that the taliban do not respect.

I believe that it is time for a little bit of perspective.

Canadian forces meet with the village elders and discuss what the elders would like to happen to their village, while the taliban blow in and kill a few people while they tell the elders what the taliban want to happen.

Canadian reconstruction forces build schools and make it possible for female students to go to them, while the taliban burn the schools and hang the teacher from a tree out front for teaching the female students.

Canadian soldiers hand out candy to kids, while the taliban sneak up with explosive underwear on to blow up the kids.

The taliban behead and torture all of their prisoners and videotape it for Al Jazeera, while the Canadian forces will even defend the taliban prisoners from execution by Afghan armed forces.

Is that enough perspective? Or do you need to watch the following video to finally understand the kind of scum we are up against?

A Tip for the Environmentalist Movement

I was watching David Suzuki again on the TV, waving his arms about on the Mike Duffy show, and generally making an arrogant ass of himself. His attitude has really brought home a thought that I have been having for the last few months about the environmental movement.

Basically the way I figure it, the best way to make a person do something is not to threaten, insult, or rant at him or her, especially if the person is a Canadian. We are a basically obedient people, if you try and convince us of something using proper manners.

Here is a fine example of minority politics.

We have the liberal and NDP opposition cherry picking sentences out of the press releases from Stephen Harper and Gordon O'Connor in an attempt to obfuscate the governments position on the Afghanistan mission.

"First the defence minister said Canada will be there until the progress is irreversible. Then he said we may withdraw by 2010 -- but only if certain conditions are met. Now we learn the Conservative cabinet hasn't even discussed the issue of withdrawal and won't do so until next year," Ignatieff, who was standing in for party leader Stephane Dion, said during question period on Monday.

Allow me to translate from "opposition" to english...

Essentially Ignatieff is demanding to know why the conservative position on when to withdraw troops has not changed, while he tries to insinuate that the position has changed.

Maybe I should explain that so that a liberal can understand.

1. O'Connor said that the troops would not be removed until the process of Afghanistans recovery is irreversible.

2. He later says that by 2010, if the recovery is irreversible, the troops will be removed.

3. Then Mr O'Connor says that there haven't been any discussions of removal of trooops this year. (This is most likely because Canada is signed in by parliamentary vote to remain in Afghanistan until 2009, probably it will be silly to discuss removing troops 2 years ahead of actually removing them especially since you wont know what Afghanistan will be like in two years.)

Nowhere on the three points that Ignatieff brought up is there a contradiction or a shift in government policy. Even though Ignatieff has put a lot of effort into making it SOUND like there is.

This is a fine example of an opposition party playing politics with an important issue and attempting to misdirect the public.

And yet Ol' Crooked Neck, the NDP leader, is showing his usual genius for outright lying to the public. Today on Politics, he persisted in insinuating (outright saying) that the Afghanistan mission is an American mission, ignoring the fact that it is a NATO mission.

Typical lying, scummy politics from Layton but I am a bit surprised that the Liberals would stoop that low to actively work against the public interest by trying to undermine the government with outright lies and insinuations.

Perhaps next election those most pernicious of the liars in the opposition will be gently reminded that they work FOR the people when the voting public does NOT mark an "X" beside their names.

Just a quick question for the Bloc Quebecois.

Recently I've been seeing a lot of naked greed and real attitude of both entitlement and outright blackmail ob the part of the Bloc regarding the C-17 purchase.

MP after Bloc MP stood up in the House and DEMANDED their 60% of the contract because in their words "Its only right and only fair".

Thankfully, Quebec has only received 30% of the contracts.

I suspect that the squealing over their "rightful share" of the slops will be both deafening and offensive to the rest of the country.

This of course is the way that the Bloc has always acted, whining and demanding more than their share and whenever that doesn't work, resorting to blackmail by bringing up sovereignty.

My question is, and I hope that their is somebody that is involved with the Bloc, or lives in Quebec, will be able to answer, how many of the Quebec voters who vote Bloc do so because they actually support separation and how many of those voters are those who would make a weasel vote for a party that is sure to bring in extra pork barrel spending?

Gone on permanent hiatus.

My hands have finally gotten so bad that I can no longer type without extreme effort. So I'm closing down this blog and sayin adios.

Its not all bad though, I've started up a new blog with some buddies that all of you may enjoy. Basically, we post all of the funny, silly, cool or just plain entertaining things we find online. 90% of it is worksafe, and the other 10% is clearly labeled.

Insults, smears, and general childishness. Welcome to Canadian politics, Left wing.

The demonizing of the Conservative government has really set my teeth on edge, and when you combine the enthusiastic media bias with the high road strategy of not fighting back the CPC has adopted you only hear one side of the story.

I know, turning the other cheek is a Christian thing to do, but after the second blow its okay in my book to fight back!

I for one would like to see the CPC speak up in its own defence, 'cause its about bloody time!

A few somewhat random thoughts,

I am officialy at war with Telus. I switched to Vonage three weeks ago, because it saves me $35 a month. When we switched, my wife called Telus and set up a redirect which should have told anyone who called my old number what my new one is. Telus said "No problem". Then on the weekend my wife calls her grandparents, who tell her that her aunt is dead and they kept trying to call but our number was down. My wifes Aunt was in hospital for two weeks, and thanks to Telus's bumbling, my wife never got to say goodbye. On CPAC yesterday, I watched some of the debate on the Street Racing bill. The government has the right idea when they decided stiffen penalties on the crime, but the NDP MP who was speaking thinks that banning performance modifications will solve the issue. Hate to tell him, but not only do some performance mods improve safety (suspension and braking upgrades) and emmissions (high flow exhaust and intakes improve milage as well as power), but jackass kids will race any car they can get ahold of. I should know, I played car tag with my '81 Olds Omega 4-door every night from age 17-19. A large sedan with a 70hp 4-banger didnt stop me from 90kmph runs down mainstreet at 4am.

At the same time my daughters cat got 5 rabbit-hide mice as a "we love kitty" present, my sons Cocker Spaniel got a taste for rabbit-hide mice. Anytime now the results will apear on my lawn, sometimes its good to be a gimp...

I have an aweful twitch in my right wrist, making it impossible to game last night with my buddies. Sometimes it REALLY sucks to be a gimp.

The proposed ban on trans fats is yet another example of a nanny law that clearly states that there is no such thing as personal responsibility.

Yes trans fats are bad for you, nobodys gonna argue that point. The public is educated, and the marketplace knows it. Thats why the latest marketing ploy is to cut trans fats volentarily, solving a good chunk of the problem without legislation.

About the media and climate change...

Its really too bad that the media in general tends to send mixed and misleading messages whenever they cover Climate change. I grant that the science is very complicated, and the scientific community is still debating the details, but the basic premise is very very simple.

CO2, carbon dioxide, is the offending pollutant. A colorless, odorless gas, emitted whenever oil and gas are burned. Thats what scientists believe we have to slow down on producing. I don't know how CO2 causes climate change, I'm not a scientist.

And neither does the media, or the environmentalists. The media are more interested in sexy images and entertainment value than the truth, and the environmentalists are too busy frothing at the mouth to be bothered with the facts. Between the two, mixed messages are burying every chance of an intelligent discussion.

Some examples of mixed messages are mentioning smog in almost every CC report, or CBC news showing video of an oil slick during todays CC story. CO2 has absolutely nothing to do with smog or a bloody oil slick! A favorite tactic is to use misleading images, pictures of smog, smoky tailpipes, cooling towers (these are the shorter, fat stacks that the media often films for CC stories. They have nothing to do with emissions, their purpose is to reclaim boiler water from used steam for re-use or to cool it so it wont damage the sewers), steam from natural gas exhaust stacks shot on a cold day. (Natural gas exhaust has a large percentage of water vapor, which shows up as steam on a cold day)

This really has got to stop. Its impossible to have an intelligent debate about climate change when theres so much disinformation flying around. I'd expect a serious effort by the media to make an issue easier to understand, and environmentalists are harming their own cause when they treat the public like dupes.

I saw a story on CBC.ca about how BC and Alberta's population is larger than Quebec's for the first time in history. It goes on to say that a total of 64 members of Parliament are chosen from B.C.and Alberta, compared to Quebec's 75 seats. This piqued my interest, so I went to Elections Canada's website and had a look around.

Quebec rural ridings;

Abitibi--Baie-James--Nunavik--Eeyou (Quebec) has a population of 80,052 with 56,615 registered voters

Manicouagan (Quebec) has a population of 84,872 with 64,537 registered voters and 186 polling divisions.

Chicoutimi--Le Fjord (Quebec) has a population of 98,739 with 78,073 registered voters and 199 polling divisions

Montmorency--Charlevoix--Haute-Côte-Nord (Quebec) has a population of 89,257 with 74,190 registered voters and 203 polling divisions

Portneuf--Jacques-Cartier (Quebec) has a population of 87,141 with 73,483 registered voters and 172 polling divisions.

Jonquière--Alma (Quebec) has a population of 98,167 with 78,153 registered voters and 209 polling divisions

Alberta rural ridings;

Peace River (Alberta) has a population of 123,877 with 89,318 registered voters and 252 polling divisions.

Fort McMurray--Athabasca (Alberta) has a population of 88,882 with 65,496 registered voters and 168 polling divisions.

Vegreville--Wainwright (Alberta) has a population of 107,771 with 79,393 registered voters and 219 polling divisions.

In almost every case, the Albertan riding has a larger population. In urban ridings its the same case. By rights, Alberta should have a few more seats.

This got me really thinking, is the practice of smaller riding populations for Eastern provinces more widespread? Do western provinces have a trend towards higher populations in their ridings?

Oh yes, they honestly do. BC has many high population ridings, while Ontario has quite a few very low population ridings.

The west deserves more seats in parliament, we're getting screwed over here.
