April Showers brings May Whirlwind!

So far, this has been a whirlwind of a month...and we aren't even halfway there! We have been loving the warm weather. Zoo,pool, playground - you name it and we are there. Little miss V is still all about the accessories, as you can see in This very fashionable ensemble worn for the playground

One of my greatest joys is dressing these living dolls up for events.That is probably way lame to hear for most of you, but as a fashion loving woman still struggling to wrangle into my Pre-preggo clothes (and stubbornly refusing to believe that my 16 years old abs are just a distant memory), dressing the girls is a delight because everything fits and exposed chubby thighs are considered cute, not repulsive.

The girls and I went to a KY Derby party and got all dolled up. We didn't win best dressed, but I think we looked pretty darn cute. Also, I won $6 for betting on Orb! My first gambling success!

Since quitting my job, the girls are loving getting to see The Knight more. He works strange hours and is training like a crazy person for the full Ironman, but he is home a good bit during the day. Vivi is definitely a daddy's girl, and getting to ride on his knee on his "tractor" is a prized spot for both girls these days!

On Monday, I celebrated my 32nd birthday. While I didn't celebrate in as an over the top fashion in the past, it was really lovely. The Knight brought me flowers, shooed me out the door to go get a much needed pedicure (thoughtthenail tech was gonna have to bust out the drill and sander!) and then took me to dinner at shee shee poo poo restaurant called Acre with drinks afterward at the Grove Grill. We hadn't been on a date since before Valentines Day, so it was long overdue! Funny thing is that I was actually a little nervous, despite the fact that we have been together for 11+ years! I guess he still gives me butterflies. :)

I'm super pumped about out veggie garden! I've planted three different kinds of tomatoes (beefsteak, cherry, and a lovely purple heirloom), butternut squash, pole beans, and cucumbers. Fingers crossed the squirrels/dogs/toddlers let it thrive!

Speaking of pests, Henry has been slowly killing my rosebushes with his daily rear leg salute and shower. I decided to use some leftover bricks, mulch, and river rock to fashion a little garden and create some distance from the grass to the plants. It turned out pretty cute, and so far, it seems to be working!

Last night, I had a slumber party for a few girls who are daughters of my work friends! I felt like such a little girl planning this, I was giddy! We had required slumber party fare (pizza and cookie dough ice cream), we played Twister and an all-girl tween appropriate version of spin the bottle, and watched Pitch Perfect! I think the girls had grand plans to stay up all night until I reminded them that Coco and Vivi get up at 6:30! Thankfully, we were all tucked in with lights out by midnight.

Coco LOVED playing with the big girls. She was so cute! She patiently waited her turn when we were playing spin the bottle, and had some of the best dance moves!

The Knight is going to complete a full Ironman soon, and I am equal parts proud and terrified. 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and then a full marathon-I'm exhausted just thinking about it. He has trained and trained (and looks HOTT!). I'm going to take the girls to his parents' house and join him in Houston to cheer him on. So so stoked to have some alone time with him and be there to cheer him on!

When it comes to pretend and dress-up, Vivi is definitely more of a princess, and Coco is more adventurous. Vivi deliberately puts on bracelets before we head out the door, demands to wear a tiara and pearls to bed (which I have to sneak off once she dozes in my arms), and it is not uncommon to see her teetering around the house with a little purse on her arm. Coco, on the other hand, prefers lurking in corners and "scaring" Mommy with her monster hands, growling and roaring like her favorite animals and brandishing her royal scepters and wands with more a sword-like flair. Currently, they are 15 months and 2.5 years respectively. I can only imagine what crazy roles I will have to play in the near future as their pretend play increases!

I was so flattered when Costume Discounters asked me to do another review for them. Keeping my girls in mind, I was thrilled to discover a cute trunk chock full of fun Wizard of Oz costumes which my girls can play with either as suggested by the story, or in whatever concoction they dream up.

For $29.95, the cute little blue and white check trunk is full of fun little costumes for Dorothy, Glinda, and the Wicked Witch! Even the accessories were included - from blue ribbon for Dorothy's pig tails, red glitter shoes, a fabulous crown, scepter, and pearls for Glinda, and an awesome cape and spider necklace for the Witch!

This picture is a little blurry because I was laughing so hard...when I told C she needed a little dog in a basket, her response was to grab the shopping cart and big brown puppy dog. I guess I need to show her the movie so she knows about the real Toto!

Of all the surprises in the box, these red shoes make a near daily appearance in our home. They may have also gone with us to the grocery store, story time, and to the hardware store. I kind of want them in my size too. :)

The one odd thing about the costumes is that the sleeves are detached from the bodice of the costumes. I guess this makes it more adjustable for more sizes and ages, but it does take a little longer to assemble each costume because of that. Just FYI. Well, I made the leap. In case you didn't see the Facebook posting about a month ago, I bid adieu to the life of a trial attorney and said hello to my children. This decision has been in the works for a long time, but this past fall, I was finding myself more and more unhappy, unfocused, and unfulfilled at my job than I had ever felt before. I was under a lot of stress and although my reviews and evaluations at work were very good, my self assessed evaluations on the home front were not so favorable.

After many talks with the Knight, my boss, and God, I decided to hang up my briefcase and pull out the jogging stroller. I couldn't ignore the tuggings on my heart and my desire to raise my girls and care for my husband any longer. After one month, my review on my new career is resoundingly positive. I'm loving getting to see my girls all day, every day. We can just hop on over to the zoo, make a pile of stuffed animals on the floor for an impromptu snuggle fest and talk about the difference between a butterfly kiss and an eskimo kiss without me anxiously checking my phone for emails and stressing about all the deadlines and tasks on my digital to do list have turned red bc they are way overdue.

Selfishly, I feel better, I'm more well rested and I love not having to make the mad rush in the morning with the girls - bags and meals for daycare, get girls dressed, get mommy dressed, breakfast, feed dogs, briefcase, possibly another change of clothes after breakfast, load up car, lock up, forget that vivi's out of diapers so stop and buy more, and we're still not even to daycare yet! Let alone work! So yeah...eliminating that has been pretty much amazing. The Knight is thrilled that he gets to see his family more now too, since he has such a weird schedule which prohibited us from getting to spend most evenings and the majority of the weekend together when I was working.

As a woman in America, I truly believe you can "have it all" but for me, I think that the second part of that saying is "not at the same time." I will keep my license active and I'm still doing contract work for my firm, but this girl doesn't plan to go back into the legal corporate world any time soon. I know the saying is "home is where the heart is" but I must say, my heart is so glad to finally be home.

An interesting insight on being a true shopaholic

I write on here a lot about shopping, sales, great finds on etsy, etc. I love to shop for myself, my children, my friends, my family...I am a Taurus, and even though I don't put a lot of stock in horoscopes, I do love comfort, security, and material things. I guess I come by my shopaholic nature, well, naturally.

I often joke about how I have my debit card number memorized, and how the Knight starts sweating when I show him how much I "saved." I hope you know that such comments are in jest. Although it would be lovely to have access to a Hilton-esque trust fund, I am actually quite thrifty and (most of the time) stay within my "fun money" budget. We try very hard to follow the advice of Dave Ramsey, live beneath our means, eliminate debt, save for emergencies, retirement, and our girls, and would you believe that the only credit card we have is truly "frozen" in a block of ice. So, we actually have to thaw it before we use it...talk about the chilling effects of credit card debts! Ha!

I guess I am divulging this because I do think about my love for shopping and what kind of message that sends to my girls. I do love showing C the little packages I get in the mail for her. Just a couple of nights ago, I showed her a pair of flip-flops that came in the mail for her for this summer, and it melted my heart when she clapped her chubby hands and exclaimed "Thank you, mama!" Despite my urge to give my children everything, I want to teach my girls that the ability to buy nice things come as a result of hard work, and also that, while nice things are nice, acquring such items is not a proper elixir for dealing with troubles and should not be used to measure self worth. I desperately want their treasures to be heavenly.

When Allison asked me if I would be interested in sharing a graphic about the "cost" of being a shopaholic, I was intrigued. It is sobering, to say the least, and I thought it was very interesting. I can identify with some of the statistics, and think it is good to keep in mind a) how incredibly blessed and comfortable we are and b) how powerful and destructive even an innocent 'addiction' can be:

Will you be my Valentine?

Today, the Knight called me at work with a simple request, "Will you be my Valentine?" This is the man who, just the night before, was doing middle school cheerleading jumps with me and laughing at with me while I attempted to do a backbend and the splits (conclusion...just because you can do something, doesn't necessarily mean that you should. Ouch!). Anyway, how could I say no? So, we are doing something for V-Day, but I have no idea what. Hopefully it will involve wine, adult conversation, and maybe even a little neckin' in the backseat (the two carseats might make that part difficult! ha!).

Speaking of sweethearts, recently, I won a giveaway on a blog for a very cute heart banner from an even cuter friend!

Rachel and I are friends from college (and a fellow Sister of Joy) and she has the cutest blog. You can check it out here. I never win anything, so I was so stoked to find out a sweet piece of glittery goodness was coming my way. Can you believe she made this? I can see this banner easily being used at baby showers, bridal showers, even part of the decor for a funky vintage boho tea party. Currently, it is adorning Coco's window. Every night, we point at objects around the room and identify shapes. C always points to this as the heart. Thanks Rach!

Oh that Betty Rascal!

Since the arrival of Coco and Vivi, Betty Rascal and Henry don't get near the amount of press they deserve.

Even if I don't blog much about them, they are still VERY much a part of our lives, and provide a lot of entertainment. The Knight just emailed this video of Betty Rascal this morning.

Betty is SUCH a little goat. I promise we feed our dogs, but you wouldn't know it the way she is acting. I love the innocent tail wag in the the beginning and then how she checks the exterior of the bag near the end of the video to make sure she didn't miss anything!

Our Thanksgiving and annual St. Jude Marathon!

We had a wonderful fall...Coco is learning how to write (mostly O's and C's, but that's how you spell Coco, so in my opinion, she is practically writing her name!)

The Knight and I went to see The Blue Man Group (our first date since Valentine's Day 2012 - LONG OVERDUE!)

We went to my parents for Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, I was sick the entire time, but the girls got some great snuggle time with their Poppy.

On the way home, we got to witness this sweet sweet moment...

Got some crazy blue new running shoes (and some hilariously awesome bling, to boot).

We completed our annual St. Jude race...the Knight did the marathon, and his sister and I did the half. AND we all met our time goals!

Little Vivi got pnemonia...two scary trips to the ER in the middle of the night. Would not wish that on any parent.

Took Caroline with me to work on day. I was completely unproductive, but she sure was a hit at the office!

I feared the worst when decorating the house this year. Would the decorations survive the tornado otherwise known as Vivi? She actually did great!

The first year where our stocking symmetry is complete. :)

Jessica Risinger Photography...an incredible family session and an intimate interview

If you are in the Memphis area, please run to your phone or computer (well, you might actually be at either of those places if you are reading this, lol) and look this lady up. You can find her website here, her blog here, and her FB page here. She is incredible. She is the kind of person that you just feel cooler and calmer standing next to . She is truly lovely, inside and out, a woman of God, and incredibly talented at capturing life and family moments with that little black box of hers. :)

Recently, the Knight and I wanted an updated snapshot of our family for Christmas cards. Some people might think it is a little ridiculous to put so much effort into such a small thing (a card), but for us, it is our "once a year" way to share a sweet sentiment with our friends and family, near and far. Holiday cards mean a lot to me, and I treasure every one we get (I often find myself saving them until a couple of years later and then painfully throwing them away...I should invent something cool to do with all those old cards). I also treasure each person or family that we send one too, often saying a little prayer for the receipient(s) and tucking little momentos inside. It is a special time for me each year as I sit down to prepare them for mailing.

Anyway, we go to church with Jessica and her sweet family. She has captured treasured memories of our family in the past at Caroline's baby dedication and other events, and I really appreciate her photography "style"... I would define it as natural, but still very pretty and dedicated to capturing the details. I thought she would be perfect to hire for our Christmas card photo (and it didn't hurt that she was running an awesome special, to boot!).

She met us twice (the first time the lighting and the wind just weren't cooperating) and both times, she got our girls to laugh, grin, and bring out their little personalities. She helped minimize my mommy gut and chin (what? you know that IS important!), and captured the Knight's eye crinkles when he smiles (my favorite).

In short, we are thrilled. I would like to wallpaper my home with her work. Would you like to see a sample or two?

Jessica was sweet enough to agree to a little nosy Q and A session by yours truly. Read on for her delightful interview...

1) Tell me a little bit about Jessica Risinger Photography? JRP formed out of a love I have always had for taking photos. It has turned into something I am truly grateful for...the chance to photograph people in ways that really shows off their personalities, what they enjoy, and who they love. I chose "All about who you are on the inside, where it really matters" as my sort of tag line, because it's really what I'm going for. In my photography I'm digging a little deeper than what you get at face value. I'm looking for the heart and soul that lies beneath those beautiful smiles.

2) Where is home? Home is where the heart is. Ha, isn't that such a canned answer? But I think it might be true. I think if you choose so, you can be happy wherever you are, even if it's not "home." I still consider New Jersey to be my home, but have adopted the Memphis, TN area to be my home over the last 11 years.

3) If you could live anywhere in this fantastic planet, where would you build your awesome dream home? Oh my, what a huge question. I wish I had one answer. I love so many places across this globe, but I think as much as I love so many different landscapes, my heart is always drawn to the ocean, any ocean.

4) Did you go to school to study photography? I went to school to study Business Management. During this time I fell even harder for photography while studying in Europe and ended up taking several photography courses when I got back. If you love photography and have ever had the chance to stand in a darkroom among equipment you have to literally feel your way around, to magically watch your photograph appear on a piece of paper, you know why I love this art form so much. Now in the digital age, I still find that "magic" when I get my photos up on my screen and see what I've captured.

5) How long have you been a photographer? My very first job was about 12 years ago--a wedding of all things. (Wow, she really trusted me with capturing such a huge day when I had never done it before.) But I started pursuing it more aggressively in 2006.

6) What is your favorite part of being a photographer? My favorite part about being a photographer is creating a piece of art, and at the same time an heirloom. Someday, families will look back at my photos and know a little bit more about their family history because of the people they see shining through in the photographs they have.

7) How would you describe your style? My style is natural and relaxed, and shows off the character of my subjects. I love working with each individual client and coming up with ways to make their photo shoot unique to them. It may be an old family quilt, or a collection of bright and funky shoes, but whatever those special items are that really make a photo "pop", it's going to be natural to my client. I don't try to create photos just for the sake of a "neat idea." I want every object we incorporate to mean something to my clients.

What tricks do you have up your sleeve to make babies and children smile? Tricks to make babies and children smile? Ha...I bribe them with candy of course Ok, not really, not every time at least. It depends on the age. One interesting thing about being a photographer is you have to figure out what works for each of your clients. Everybody's "smile button" is different. It could be a simple fake sneeze for a 6 month old, or asking a 6-year-old boy to imagine daddy dancing around in little sister's pink tutu.

9) What kind of camera do you use? I use a Canon EOS 5D Mark II with my clients. And on a daily basis with my family when I just can't put the photographer side of me away and HAVE to capture every second of my kids' lives, I use my iphone camera. I know they are so sick of it

10) Any tips for families planning their next photo shoot? Tips? Yes! Be flexible, stay calm, and smile on. We can't control everything, so just go with the flow. Everyone will have more fun that way.

11) Any tips for budding photographers? Budding photographers... Don't compare yourself to others (hmmm, a simple life lesson for us all.) But really, develop your style based on things you love. Don't go after the latest fad in photography because everyone else likes it. Do it because you like it. Your photos will be more meaningful that way.

12) Who would play you in a film? I can't even tell you how many times over the last 10 years people have told me I look like Ann Hathaway. (Actually, she looks like me.) So I suppose if you're looking for a stunt double, it would be her

13) First thing you would do if you won the lottery? Oh dear, if I won the lottery, I would have so much fun in the freedom of being able to give money to so many people that could really use it. None of what I have is mine anyway. Everything is a gift from God. And with a couple hundred of those dollars, I would really like to get the antique claw foot tub out of my back yard, refinished, and put into my bathroom

14) Five words your friends would use to describe you? Ahh, what would my friends say? Maybe we should ask them. I have heard some of them say on many occasions that I am so calm, that things don't get me anxious or uptight. I'll have to take a poll and get back to you on the other 4 things

15) Something you have not achieved yet, but hope too. I'm about to put myself to the test with this one. My bucket list consists of running a Marathon. And depending on when this blog post appears, I may or may not have accomplished this goal. But for now, I am excited about putting something out there that takes hard work and dedication, and seeing each goal met even when it is hard.

16) What would you like to be doing 5 years from now? My dream is to someday have a cute little studio and work with friends and clients who value relationships, family, and community as much as I do. To continue to do what I love--take care of my family, and create photos for people that help them remember what's important in life. I don't know if that will be in 5 years, or 50, but either way, I think my current job titles of mommy and photographer are exactly the titles I want.

And LAST BUT NOT LEAST....

17) If someone said, "how can I be the next Jessica Risinger?" what would you tell them? If someone wants to "be the next Jessica Risinger", they have a problem. It comes with a sink full of dirty dishes, All.The.Time! And it means cleaning up spots off the floor from the dog, and washing countless action figure undies because potty training lasts longer than it should. If however, someone wanted to follow their dream of pursuing something they love, they should figure out why they love it, and if they can find a way to do it that can somehow help others.

Belated (but Happy) Halloween (and Vivi is 10 months!)

In all the craziness of Halloween and this past weekend (Vivi with 104 fever, the Knight out of town for the Ragnar Relay, general AFS insanity), I forgot to do my monthly post on Vivi and Coco. This may be yawn-inducing for some of you, but I know my mama and mama-in-law love it, and it is so fun for me to look back, so just roll with it, okay?

We have really been enjoying fall! The Knight completed his second IronMan 70.3 in Miami (with a new PR of 5 hours and 25 minutes, woot woot).

My mama (Mimi) came for that weekend to help while I took Caroline to a wedding in Nashville and we did our church's trunk or treat.

My girls won cutest costumes at church. It was a great night for my mom especially...she made C's dress for me when I was two, and won first place. 11 years later, my sister wore it and won first place. And now C continues the tradition!

We also to the girls to Cedar Hill Farm with a bunch of my friends and their kids...it was fantastic!

Okay, so here's the latest on C & V. :)

Vivi - you are a riot and turning out to be quite the tough little spitfire! You have decided that no, you don't particularly care for your sister taking away ALL your toys, and you are starting to really let us know. I have also caught you crying a couple of times even when she wasn't doing anything to you, so apparently you have figured out that mama comes running when you aren't happy. :)

You and your sister are really starting to play together. My favorite is when we are driving down the road, and one of you starts laughing. The other one joins in and pretty soon you two are just cracking each other up (and your daddy and me in the process). Things that you have discovered make us laugh the most are blowing rasperries and bopping your mouth and humming, like a little Indian. :) You have also started waving bye-bye at everyone and everything. Your "mama" and "dada" are getting better and better, and I expect you to start calling your sissy something soon, though I'm not sure if it will be her name, her nickname, or some other combo. Like I said, you are a riot.

You are SO SO close to walking. You push everything - the baby stroller, the shopping cart, even some of our furniture! You stand by yourself all the time and get this little proud grin on your face. We took you to get your own NEW pair of shoes (no hand me downs this time, since your feet are smaller than C's when she started walking), and you seem even more confident than ever! Your daddy and I are projecting that you will walk on your own by next week, so we'll see!

You love puzzles and remotes. You haven't quite figured out how to work your sister's puzzles, but are very good at dumping all the pieces on the floor! We have started having the put the remote in a high place because you hone in on it every time you find it on the floor. You are better at changing the channels than we are. We tried to give you another old remote that we don't use, but somehow you can tell that it is not the "ONE."

You put yourself to sleep by humming and patting yourself on the head. Thankfully, we still get to rock you, but I can tell that you are becoming more and more independent when it comes to sleeping. I crave the end of the day, when I can rush home from work, feed you supper, and then rock you to sleep in your quiet, darkened room. You are an excellent snug bug. I've said it before, and I'm sure I'll say it again...you are a wonderful blessing.

Coco - your sense of humor and dramatic flair is really starting to shine. You make us laugh a lot. I am having a hard time coming up with a particular example at the moment, but basically, your inqisitiveness, excitedment for life and all that is in our world, and happy go lucky attitude is the best. You love Barney, animals, airplanes, and candy! You don't like to have sticky "booguhs" and will clean the entire house with a baby wipe. You are, undoubtedly, a serious shoe lover...just like mama.

Lately, you have been quite the show-off. "Watch this!" is your new favorite phrase. Usually, you like to show off your hopping or running skills. Your love for dancing is quite adorable too. After Vivi goes to bed, you stay up with me and daddy to watch the Voice. At every song you say "sit up, Mommy...dance!" And so, I begrudgingly get off of the couch, and start dancing. Usually, daddy joins in on the fun, and by the middle of the song, I am glad that you asked me to dance, and we laugh and swirl around the living room.

You are really becoming interested in taking care of your babydolls. They sat unused for months, but in the past week or so, you have been putting Cheryl (the giant doll that my grandmother gave me when I was a little girl) to "bed" on your rug, and covering her up with your blankies. You march around the house with your babydolls crammed in the babydoll stroller and take them for a "walk." Although you still have a hard time sharing Mommy with Vivi, you are becoming so compassionate and caring toward your little sister. This past weekend, Vivi was very sick and had a really bad fever. Several times, I saw you place your sweet little hand on Vivi's head and say, "you okay, Vivi? you warm?" Melt momma's heart.

On the way home from school, our favorite game has become pumpkin spotting. Each house gets your assessment...NOOOOOOOOOOO punkins! NOOOOOOOOOOO punkins! PUNKINS, MOMMY! PUNKINS! It is really fun. The "punkins" at our house are your favorite, and when I decorated for fall, you wandered around the house in amazement. So precious.

You also have started to voluntarily apologize when you get in trouble. We've always asked you to say that you are sorry after hitting Vivi, but now you are doing it on your own...and it is heartfelt! Last week, you were cranky and tired and you smacked mommy in the face when I told you it was time to go to bed. We told you that hitting is not nice and you went to time out. After you got out of time out, you went to your room on your own and I came in there to help you do some puzzles and read some books. We were sitting beside each other, silently putting puzzles together, and you looked at me so apologetically and said, "I'm sorry, mama." I said "why are you sorry?" You replied "Coco hit." Of course, I just scooped you up and hugged you to pieces and told you everything was all better, but it really meant so to see your sweet little spirit shine through. I it amazing how much that you are learning! And we are teaching you! Terrifying and gratifying all at the same time.

Speaking of learning, here you are saying your ABCs and 123s for daddy while he was away this past weekend:

Loving fall and being a mama to these two delightful little squirts. The Knight and I are so blessed. When times get rough (believe me, it is really hard at times!), we just have to remember how fortunate we are and what little time we get with one another needs to be absolutely cherished.

Regardless of your political persuasion, no one can dispute that our country's troops make incredible sacrifices on America's behalf. I get fussy when the Knight is away for 2 days. I can't imagine what it would be like for him to be gone 1, 2, even three years...or more.

Their bravery, sacrifice, mental toughness, and dedication is awe-inspiring. I hope you have a chance this weekend and Monday to take a moment and thank a soldier for his or her service to our great country.

AFS picks for 2012 Christmas card!

Christmas is less than 3 months away!

Time to start shopping and planning for one of my favorite yearly traditions...the Christmas card! Since the Knight and I were married in 2004, we have sent out yearly Christmas Cards to our nearest and dearest. 2 cities, 2 dogs, and 2 kids later, our list has grown to about 180 people, and we receive about that many cards from others.

Coming soon - Vivi's first debut in 2012!

It is absolutely one of my favorite things about Christmas...walking into our home and seeing everyone's smiling faces hanging around the trim in one of our doorways. I love seeing how the kids have grown, where my friends' lives are taking them, and how blessed our family is.

We are scheduled for a family portrait with the lovely Jessica Risinger in early November. As soon as I get my digital print, I will be shooting off my order with Shutterfly. I have purchased cards from them the past 3 years, and have been very very pleased with each set of Christmas Cards that we have received!

This year, I want our photo to evoke a nostalgic feel. I am tentatively planning our family's wardrobe around this little outfit for C.

As extra props, I'm picturing old fashioned suitcases, maybe a vintage settee, or perhaps maybe some beautifully wrapped presents topped with silk bows? I am sure it will all come out great...just still in the planning stage on that one.

Fancy New Shoe Review :)

Can you believe that Halloween is less than 30 days away? I have got the girls' costumes all planned out...we are doing 2 this year. First, my mom made them adorable matching candy corn dresses and bows, so we'll probably use those for school dress up day.

For Halloween trick or treating, C is going to wear my Little Bo Peep costume that my mother made for me when I was 2. Vivi is going to be the cutest little sheep ever.

I haven't decided if I am going to dress up, but if I do, I will be going as a black sheep. :)

Speaking of costumes, recently, www.PlusSizeCostumeSuperCenter.com, asked me to do a review for their site. Up front, I am going to have to admit that I am not a plus size woman, but I am so so glad that costume designers are recognizing the plus size women want options for Halloween too! Since I am not plus-sized, I selected a pair of shoes to review.

At first, I really wanted to splurge and get these AWESOME red glittery Dorothy shoes. What girl doesn't need a pair of this awesomeness in their closet???

After a lot of hemming, hawing, brow furrowing, and closet examining, I opted for these pretties:

They are even cuter in person, very comfortable, and I have gotten tons of compliments on them! I know that they are perfect for lots of Halloween costumes, but they are also perfect for work.

Y'all know I love me some Shutterfly. I have been a devoted fan since, oh, I don't know...Al Gore invented the internet.

Seriously, I have used them for bridal and baby showers, my own stationary, Christmas cards, both girls' birth announcements, and gifts for my family and friends. I was STOKED when they asked me to do a guest post about Caroline's alphabet book that I made for her 2nd birthday.

C is 2 years old - bye-bye sweet baby, hello terrific twos!

C turned 2 on Saturday. I will share all the pictures from her fantastic party in a separate post, but I wanted to give you a little update on the Coco Bean. Here is her "time capsule," of sorts:

Loves to dance, run, and go "wimming"! Prays sponatenously, and ends every prayer with a hearty "AMEN!" Is very brave, loves to jump in the pool with no floaties (holding mommy's finger of course), and climbs all over everything. Loves "sungasses", shoes, bows, headbands, necklaces, bracelets, anything fancy. Loves Betty and "Henny." Says her sister's name with a French accent (VeeVee-Onne). Still loves her paci, but follows the rule (for the most part) that it stays in her room for nap time, sleep time, and those particularly rough days where she needs a little extra comfort. Loves coloring - markers, crayons, chalk, ink pens...keeps her occupied for hours. Loves Elmo - he is all over our house in a multitude of books, coloring books, stuffed animals, dishes, and on our TV. Holds out her arms and says "Hold you?" Refers to herself in the 3rd person as "Coco." Uses "Ima" as a verb, as in "Ima shoe on" and "Ima wash hands." Talks a ton, most of it we can understand and/or translate. Is no longer interested in potty training and we are okay with that (for now). Loves her Mimi and Poppy (my mom and dad) and her Ma and Ba (the Knight's parents), and looks for them in pictures all over our house and on our computer. Is a mama's girl, but absolutely adores Daddy and Vivi! Goes to sleep with a book every night, and when she wakes up in the morning, she sits in her crib and reads it. Can sing her ABCs, Happy Birthday, and snippets of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Itsy Bitsy Spider, and songs from her VeggieTales CD. Knows SO many animals (I was astounded one night when she showed me a dolphin, giraffe, and alligator without my asking). Knows several colors ("Onge!" "Lellow!"), can kind of count to ten (1, 2, 4, 10!), and knows several shapes (thanks to her fabulous day school for that!). Thinks all hearts in pictures are suckers. :) Is obsessed with cupcakes. Loves to go outside and "wing." Does not like bugs. Loves to put things in the trash. Wears 18/24 months clothes and weighs 28 lbs. Likes to "rush" her teeth and her hair all by herself. Is starting to exhibit defiance, but responds pretty well after time-out. Says "shorry" after she does something mean to Vivi. Is learning (slowly) how to share. Drinks easily from a cup, uses a fork and spoon quite well, and DOES NOT like for her food to be cut up for her. Is already acting like the perfectly bossy big sister.

She makes us belly laugh daily and is so fun to love. I love having a two-year old already...the world is so exciting and new, and she teaches us how to see everything with a totally new perspective. Happy 2nd Birthday to our little Coco Bean!

Vivi at 7 months

She is a giggly, crawling, teething, pulling up, humming, squirmy delight. She crawls with a focus and determination that I hope she keeps for years to come. Her laughter and smiles melts everyone's hearts. The lady that primarily watches her told us that Vivi is the happiest and sweetest baby that she has ever cared for. She hums along with me when I rock her to sleep, then gives one big grunt and body lurch before completely passing out. Hilarious. She thinks C is the funniest thing on earth, but has learned that C doesn't like to share and lets us all know about it by a loud whiny cry. She loves to play peek-a-boo, splash her sister in the bathtub, and has taken quite a liking to gnawing on pizza crust. It is amazing to me how fast she is developing, but then I guess that is typical for the 2nd baby? She is already pulling up and starting to show the early signs of wanting to "cruise." When I hold her hands, she walks like a little toy soldier - kicking those legs out in front of her.

We are blessed beyond measure. I can't remember life before her or imagine our lives without her in it! Happy 7 months, sweet Vivi Sprout!

Currently Coveting...Cruise Clothes!

Soooo, I am getting REALLY excited. The Knight and I are going on a cruise for 5 nights with two of our fave couple friends next month. Both couples also have 2 littles b/w 14 and 18 mos apart, and I am certain that they need a break as much as we do!

My parents are coming to stay with our girls which is SUCH a blessing. We don't have to travel 7 hours one way to drop them off, they can sleep in their normal crib/beds, and my parents can use daycare during the day (if they want a break themselves!).

I am so sick of shopping for work clothes (another wool blend pencil skirt? yawn.), so I find myself (almost daily) searching for the perfect outfits for our grown-up, kids-free vacation! I have to say that I have been so successful in procuring a fun, cruise-worthy wardrobe, I might have to take two cruises, just so I can wear everything. What can I say? I lead a very troubled life. :)

Today, I hit the mother load in the mail department. I got a package of sweet dresses from my mom for the girls, then I got a box of treats and supplies for C's upcoming birthday party AND the first Wittlebee box for the girls!

Luv Mud 2012 (toddler version)

This theme of this weekend was water. On Friday, we babysat the Cantrell cuties. The kids played in the sprinkler and ate Italian ices.

On Saturday, the Middlekauff kids came over and we hosed 'em down till we had so much mud, we had our own personal Luv Mud, right in our backyard.

On Sunday, I took the girls to swim in Aunt Janie's pool. All I have to say is that Caroline is fearless. She is a little fish! Not even 2 years old, jumping in the water with no flotation devices and holding her breath! Can you tell that this mama is just a little proud?

Summer in Memphis is fun, but we have to work hard to beat the heat!
