Sparing nothing, Jesus continues onward to prove the power of immortal Love in defeating men's most feared foe, death.

Our world in turmoil pictures a battle that is not ours, a battle not of matter but of powers and principalities.

As we commemorate the journey of Jesus, we plant the seeds of his fruitage that must emerge gently into a new day.

For Jesus' willing acceptance of the cross, the only proof we could understand, we owe him endless homage.

Over the centuries we think to the work of Christ Jesus that saved us though we do not comprehend his love for us.

Every individual reflection of Soul needs its rightful nutriment. It doesn't diet. Feed it daily with gratitude.

There is a new sense pf Spirit blowing across the fact of the earth.

As the Triduum nears let us, Christians and struggling hearts everywhere, set our sails to catch its healing wind that will carry us to Easter.

the art of socializing word-seeds

The idea of morphemes resonated with me because each of us are like a morpheme, the smallest unit of language that can convey meaning. We are unique, individual units of meaning that can interact to create a larger idea - a more God idea. Like brother birds, word-seeds flock together. So now you know a bit of the backstory.

Most posts are from @mrphms posts. I chose "mrphms" because it is shorter.

Blogging posts from Twitter requires more time than it takes to compose. So do not be surprised if the blog is not as current as the tweets. In any case, I hope you will find a smile or two.

God created man

In the beginning, man,

   conceived in Mind,
reflects Soul;
  formed of Spirit,
likens Principle;
  known by Life, Truth & Love,
images God,
   now and forever.

Man reflects God by virtue of his authentic DNA.
Man, who lives in the world, is conformed by God.

Man experiences pain when not aware of this fact.
Man, who holds he is agnostic or an atheist, sleeps.

Man dreams his world and claims it as his creation.
Man, tossing and turning, tries to govern but cannot.

Man becomes battle-tired and hears his name called.
Man, opening his eyes, clears away the blurring veil.

Man was mystified by the unreal but now is awake.
Man, feeling satisfied, healthy and joyous, laughs.

Man knows the good, truth and beauty as God said.

The citations below are part of the ongoing internal conversation of the Christian Science Pastor, The King James Version of the Bible (in BLUE) and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures (in RED) by Mary Baker Eddy. This portion of the conversation begins with the creation of a home for man made in the image and likeness of God. Within the home, man, male and female respond to the command of God to be fruitful, multiply and in marital chastity to fill the home until the day that there is no more giving and receiving in marriage.

HOME

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
   And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

   And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.

ABRAM

These different elements conjoin naturally with each other, and their true harmony is in spiritual oneness. Both sexes should be loving, pure, tender, and strong. The attraction between native qualities will be perpetual only as it is pure and true, bringing sweet seasons of renewal like the returning spring.
What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder (E) Marriage

   Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:

ABRAHAM

From the logic of events we learn that selfishness and impurity alone are fleeting, and that wisdom will ultimately put asunder what she hath not joined together.
Marriage should improve the human species, becoming a barrier against vice, a protection to woman, strength to man, and a centre for the affections. (F) Marriage

   And Abraham journeyed from thence toward the south country,
   And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She is my sister: and Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.
   But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, thou art but a dead man, for the woman which thou hast taken; for she is a man's wife.
   But Abimelech had not come near her: and he said, Lord, wilt thou slay also a righteous nation? … in the integrity of my heart and innocency of my hands have I done this.
   And God said unto him in a dream, Yea, I know that thou didst this in the integrity of thy heart; for I also withheld thee from sinning against me: therefore suffered I thee not to touch her.
   Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said unto him, What hast thou done unto us? and what have I offended thee, that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? thou hast done deeds unto me that ought not to be done.
   And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife's sake. And yet indeed she is my sister; she is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife. ...I said unto her, This is thy kindness which thou shalt shew unto me; at every place whither we shall come, say of me, He is my brother.
   And Abimelech took sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and womenservants, and gave them unto Abraham, and restored him Sarah his wife. (7) Genesis

A mutual understanding should exist before this union and continue ever after, for deception is fatal to happiness.
The nuptial vow should never be annulled, so long as its moral obligations are kept intact; but the frequency of divorce shows that the sacredness of this relationship is losing its influence, and that fatal mistakes are undermining its foundations. Separation never should take place, and it never would, if both husband and wife were genuine Christian Scientists. Science inevitably lifts one's being higher in the scale of harmony and happiness. (G) Marriage

ISAAC

   Matrimony should never be entered into without a full recognition of its enduring obligations on both sides. There should be the most tender solicitude for each other's happiness, and mutual attention and approbation should wait on all the years of married life.
   Soul has infinite resources with which to bless mankind, and happiness would be more readily attained and would be more secure in our keeping, if sought in Soul. Higher enjoyments alone can satisfy the cravings of immortal man. We cannot circumscribe happiness within the limits of personal sense. The senses confer no real enjoyment.
   The good in human affections must have ascendency over the evil and the spiritual over the animal, or happiness will never be won. The attainment of this celestial condition would improve our progeny, diminish crime, and give higher aims to ambition. (H) Marriage

   And Abraham said unto his eldest servant of his house, … go unto my country, and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my son Isaac.
   And the servant took ten camels of the camels of his master, and departed; … unto the city of Nahor.
   And he said, O Lord God of my master Abraham, I pray thee, send me good speed this day, and shew kindness unto my master Abraham.
   And it came to pass, before he had done speaking, that, behold, Rebekah came out, … And the man bowed down his head, and worshipped the Lord.
   And Rebekah had a brother, and his name was Laban: and Laban ran out unto the man, unto the well. And he said, Come in, thou blessed of the Lord; wherefore standest thou without? for I have prepared the house, and room for the camels.
   And the man came into the house:
   And there was set meat before him to eat: but he said, I will not eat, until I have told mine errand.
   And he said, Speak on.
   And he said, I am Abraham's servant. …

   And before I had done speaking in mine heart, behold, Rebekah came forth with her pitcher on her shoulder; and she went down unto the well, and drew water: and I said unto her, Let me drink, I pray thee.
   And she made haste, and let down her pitcher from her shoulder, and said, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: so I drank, and she made the camels drink also.    And I asked her, and said, Whose daughter art thou?

JACOB

The scientific morale of marriage is spiritual unity. If the propagation of a higher human species is requisite to reach this goal, then its material conditions can only be permitted for the purpose of generating.

The beautiful in character is also the good, welding indissolubly the links of affection. (I) Marriage

   Rebekah … called Jacob her younger son, and said unto him, … flee thou to Laban my brother to Haran;
   And Isaac called Jacob, … Arise, go to Padanaram, to the house of Bethuel thy mother's father; and take thee a wife from thence of the daughters of Laban thy mother's brother.
   And that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother, and was gone to Padanaram; ... and came into the land of the people of the east.
   And he said unto them, Know ye Laban the son of Nahor?
   And they said, We know him.
   And he said unto them, Is he well?
   And they said, He is well: and, behold, Rachel his daughter cometh with the sheep.
   And Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice, and wept.
   … when Laban heard the tidings of Jacob his sister's son, that he ran to meet him, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him to his house.
   And Laban said unto Jacob, Because thou art my brother, shouldest thou therefore serve me for nought? tell me, what shall thy wages be?

JOSEPH

   Infidelity to the marriage covenant is the social scourge of all races, "the pestilence that walketh in darkness, . . . the destruction that wasteth at noonday." The commandment, "Thou shalt not commit adultery," is no less imperative than the one, "Thou shalt not kill."
   Chastity is the cement of civilization and progress. Without it there is no stability in society, and without it one cannot attain the Science of Life.
   The higher nature of man is not governed by the lower; (J) Marriage

   And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him … And the Lord was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man;
   And his master saw that the Lord was with him, and that the Lord made all that he did to prosper in his hand. And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him:
   And it came to pass after these things, that his master's wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me.
   But he refused, and said unto his master's wife, Behold, my master wotteth not what is with me in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand; There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God? RUTH

If the foundations of human affection are consistent with progress, they will be strong and enduring.

Marriage should signify a union of hearts. (K) Marriage

   ...the woman was left of her two sons and her husband.
   And Naomi said unto her two daughters in law, Go, return each to her mother's house: the Lord deal kindly with you, as ye have dealt with the dead, and with me. The Lord grant you that ye may find rest, each of you in the house of her husband.
   Then she kissed them; and they lifted up their voice, and wept. … Orpah kissed her mother in law; but Ruth clave unto her.
   And Ruth said, Entreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the Lord do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.
   So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabitess, her daughter in law, with her, which returned out of the country of Moab: and they came to Bethlehem in the beginning of barley harvest.
   Ruth the Moabitess said unto Naomi, Let me now go to the field, and glean ears of corn after him in whose sight I shall find grace.
   And she said unto her, Go, my daughter.
   Then said Boaz unto his servant that was set over the reapers, Whose damsel is this?
   And the servant that was set over the reapers answered and said, It is the Moabitish damsel that came back with Naomi out of the country of Moab:
   Then said Boaz unto Ruth, Hearest thou not, my daughter?    And he said unto the kinsman, Naomi, that is come again out of the country of Moab, selleth a parcel of land, which was our brother Elimelech's: … What day thou buyest the field of the hand of Naomi, thou must buy it also of Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance.
   And the kinsman said, I cannot redeem it for myself, … Buy it for thee. So he drew off his shoe.
   And Boaz said unto the elders, and unto all the people, Ye are witnesses this day, that I have bought all that was Elimelech's, and all that was Chilion's and Mahlon's, of the hand of Naomi. Moreover Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of Mahlon, have I purchased to be my wife, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance, that the name of the dead be not cut off from among his brethren, and from the gate of his place: ye are witnesses this day.
   And all the people that were in the gate, and the elders, said, We are witnesses.

Beauty, wealth, or fame is incompetent to meet the demands of the affections, and should never weigh against the better claims of intellect, goodness, and virtue. Happiness is spiritual, born of Truth and Love. It is unselfish; therefore it cannot exist alone, but requires all mankind to share it. (L) Marriage

MARRIAGE

   Until it is learned that God is the Father of all, marriage will continue. Let not mortals permit a disregard of law which might lead to a worse state of society than now exists. Honesty and virtue ensure the stability of the marriage covenant. Spirit will ultimately claim its own, — all that really is, — and the voices of physical sense will be forever hushed.
   There will ensue a fermentation over this as over many other reforms, until we get at last the clear straining of truth, and impurity and error are left among the lees. ... Matrimony, which was once a fixed fact among us, must lose its present slippery footing, and man must find permanence and peace in a more spiritual adherence.
   The mental chemicalization, which has brought conjugal infidelity to the surface, will assuredly throw off this evil, and marriage will become purer when the scum is gone. Furthermore, the time cometh of which Jesus spake, when he declared that in the resurrection there should be no more marrying nor giving in marriage, but man would be as the angels.
   Jesus said, "The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage: But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage."
   No longer to marry or to be "given in marriage" neither closes man's continuity nor his sense of increasing number in God's infinite plan. Spiritually to understand that there is but one creator, God, unfolds all creation, confirms the Scriptures, brings the sweet assurance of no parting, no pain, and of man deathless and perfect and eternal. (M) Marriage

Chapter 3 Marriage

When our great Teacher came to him for baptism, John was astounded. Reading his thoughts, Jesus added: "Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness." Jesus' concessions (in certain cases) to material methods were for the advancement of spiritual good.

The commandment, "Thou shalt not commit adultery," is no less imperative than the one, "Thou shalt not kill." …

Proportionately as human generation ceases, the unbroken links of eternal, harmonious being will be spiritually discerned; and man, not of the earth earthly but coexistent with God, will appear. (B)

Chapter 15 Genesis

Every agony of mortal error helps error to destroy error, and so aids the apprehension of immortal Truth.This is the new birth going on hourly, ….

Natural history is richly endowed by the labors and genius of great men. Modern discoveries have brought to light important facts in regard to so-called embryonic life. Agassiz declares ("Methods of Study in Natural History," page 275): "Certain animals, besides the ordinary process of generation, also increase their numbers naturally and constantly by self-division." This discovery is corroborative of the Science of Mind, for this discovery shows that the multiplication of certain animals takes place apart from sexual conditions. The supposition that life germinates in eggs and must decay after it has grown to maturity, if not before, is shown by divine metaphysics to be a mistake, — a blunder which will finally give place to higher theories and demonstrations.

Creatures of lower forms of organism are supposed to have, as classes, three different methods of reproduction and to multiply their species sometimes through eggs, sometimes through buds, and sometimes through self-division. According to recent lore, successive generations do not begin with the birth of new individuals, or personalities, but with the formation of the nucleus, or egg, from which one or more individualities subsequently emerge; and we must therefore look upon the simple ovum as the germ, the starting-point, of the most complicated corporeal structures, including those which we call human. Here these material researches culminate in such vague hypotheses as must necessarily attend false systems, which rely upon physics and are devoid of metaphysics.

In one instance a celebrated naturalist, Agassiz, discovers the pathway leading to divine Science, and beards the lion of materialism in its den. At that point, however, even this great observer mistakes nature, forsakes Spirit as the divine origin of creative Truth, and allows matter and material law to usurp the prerogatives of omnipotence. He absolutely drops from his summit, coming down to a belief in the material origin of man, for he virtually affirms that the germ of humanity is in a circumscribed and non-intelligent egg.

If this be so, whence cometh Life, or Mind, to the human race? Matter surely does not possess Mind. God is the Life, or intelligence, which forms and preserves the individuality and identity of animals as well as of men. God cannot become finite, and be limited within material bounds. Spirit cannot become matter, nor can Spirit be developed through its opposite. Of what avail is it to investigate what is miscalled material life, which ends, even as it begins, in nameless nothingness? The true sense of being and its eternal perfection should appear now, even as it will hereafter. …

If Life has any starting-point whatsoever, then the great I AM is a myth. If Life is God, as the Scriptures imply, then Life is not embryonic, it is infinite. An egg is an impossible enclosure for Deity.

Embryology supplies no instance of one species producing its opposite. …

Evolution describes the gradations of human belief, but it does not acknowledge the method of divine Mind, nor see that material methods are impossible in divine Science and that all Science is of God, not of man.

Naturalists ask: "What can there be, of a material nature, transmitted through these bodies called eggs, — themselves composed of the simplest material elements, — by which all peculiarities of ancestry, belonging to either sex, are brought down from generation to generation?" The question of the naturalist amounts to this: How can matter originate or transmit mind? We answer that it cannot. Darkness and doubt encompass thought, so long as it bases creation on materiality. From a material standpoint, "Canst thou by searching find out God?" All must be Mind, or else all must be matter. Neither can produce the other. (C)

Chapter 2 Atonement and Eucharist

The illumination of Mary's spiritual sense put to silence material law and its order of generation, and brought forth her child by the revelation of Truth, demonstrating God as the Father of men. The Holy Ghost, or divine Spirit, overshadowed the pure sense of the Virgin-mother with the full recognition that being is Spirit. The Christ dwelt forever an idea in the bosom of God, the divine Principle of the man Jesus, and woman perceived this spiritual idea, though at first faintly developed.

Man as the offspring of God, as the idea of Spirit, is the immortal evidence that Spirit is harmonious and man eternal. (D)

Matthew

… fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: (14)

Chapter 10 Science of Being

Jesus said substantially, "He that believeth in me shall not see death." … Such a one abideth in Life, — life obtained not of the body incapable of supporting life, but of Truth, unfolding its own immortal idea. …

When spiritual being is understood in all its perfection, continuity, and might, then shall man be found in God's image. (E)

Scientific Statement of Being designed by CaroNote

The first is from the Christian Science textbook,

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.

I John 3:1-3 design by CaroNote

The second and correlative passage is from I John3:1-3.

The first states man's true origin and nature. Man is not a mortal material body but the spiritual image and likeness of God. It for this reason that man is referred to as the reflection of God.

The Scientific Statement of Being reasons that God's image, man, cannot be what God is not or have what God does not have. Man's health is a portrait of the God he images, an exact reflection of God who is perfect. In other words, man cannot lack health.

That said, when relying on material senses, the portrait appears imperfect suggesting that God is whimsical, changeable. Man appears to be conformed by the world, matter-limited, matter-governed and matter-dependent. But can that be the truth of man created in the image of God who is Spirit, Life and Mind? Can such a portrait of God be reasonable?

Can man image another original? Can there be another original when God is infinite and eternal? When God is Omnipotent, Omnipresent, Omniscien t? All-power, Everywhere-present, All-knowing?

The correlative passage from I John confirms that perfect God and perfect man is the Truth. It confirms that man can only reflect the real and perfect that the world cannot recognize or know. The world knew our master not, why should the world know us?

In I John, we are exhorted to purify ourselves, to reject world beliefs and be true "sons of God" loved by the Father who is Love. We are instructed to be, in expression, the spiritual man unknown by the world. We are reminded that we are sons of God, now, and no future appearance or form will change this fact.

SUMMARY

Christian Science Sunday Services close with two citations that, together, tell us who we are, our duty and our expected outcome. We are brought to the absolute Christian conclusion that is Scientifically provable by every man, male and female. We are then, sent forth with a blessing to demonstrate the Truth we have shared.

Recent headlines indicate that people around the world are looking for the stability Truth offers and are embarking on a search for it. They are encountering stormy seas where what they trusted is proven unreliable. They are finding that wanting something like freedom is not enough, it must be claimed and possessed.

While in the midst of such hard and even violent battles with error, God's unfailing care may seem hard to remember and believe. Recalling what has been proven to be true and victorious in previous times may feel impossible. But rejecting panic and calling on the tiniest shard of Truth will turn the tide.

Know the Truth and Truth will set you free. (1)

Truth known is Truth called upon. It sets free like someone waking you up from a dream of flooding waters. You find you are dry. There is no need to dry the floors, there was no flood. There were no waters though they appeared so very real and frightening while dreaming. They didn't go away, they were never there.

Truth brings to light the ever presence of Love and Its eternal care for Its child. Love is trustworthy because It cannot contradict Itself. It operates by Its uninterrupted eternal law that saw all It had created as not only "good," but "very good."(2) Love does not rethink.

Seeking Truth is safe. Your crown awaits.

Rockwell or Black Friday?

After all the news and discord about stores opening a day early to get Black Friday shopping jump started, I was musing about the state of celebrating Thanksgiving. Admittedly it was from a material perspective but with a tradition push-back. Thought you might find interesting so here is my post from G+ on the topic.

Rockwell Thanksgiving passé? Et tu, Black Friday?

With all the focus and concern on eliminating stress and obesity, how does having Thanksgiving Dinner with family on Black Thriday help? Isn't that at least as stressful as playing Bingo using a card having no Free Space?

Will #BlackThriday trend? Or will #Thanksgiving keep its traditional edge. Airports indicate that Thanksgiving has a staunch following - large numbers of people are willing to subject themselves to expensive indignities and discomfort in order to get "home" to family and loved ones. Highways are less clear indicators unless retail parking lot car counts offset traffic numbers.

What would be the effect on retail of being Thankful on a day in September? Or even once each month on the 2nd Thursday of the month? Turkey might be less often the entrée of choice along with other menu modifications.

I cherish the Free Space in life called Thanksgiving Day and its harvest gifts that have been simply or elaborately prepared to share in intimate gathering of family, friends, and loved ones. I want that for everyone wherever they find themselves, whatever their circumstances. Hangout gatherings online to share gratitude and meal fit perfectly. It is the unadulterated Spirit of Thankfulness of our annual Free Space that is its central attribute.

I here present to my readers an allegory

Suppose a mental case to be on trial, as cases are tried in court. A man is charged with having committed liver-complaint. The patient feels ill, ruminates, and the trial commences.

The evidence for the prosecution being called for, a witness testifies thus: —

    I represent Health-laws.

The next witness is called: —

    I am Coated Tongue.

Another witness takes the stand and testifies: —

    I am Sallow Skin.

The next witness testifies: —

    I am Nerve, the State Commissioner for Mortal Man.

Another witness is called... and says: —

    I am Mortality, Governor of the Province of Body,

Another witness takes the stand and testifies: —

    I am Death.

The testimony for the plaintiff, Personal Sense, being closed, Judge Medicine arises, and with great solemnity addresses the jury of Mortal Minds.

The case is given to the jury. A brief consultation ensues, and the jury returns a verdict of "Guilty...”

...but Christ, Truth, the spirit of Life and the friend of Mortal Man, can open wide those prison doors and set the captive free. Swift on the wings of divine Love, there comes a despatch: "Delay the execution; the prisoner is not guilty."

After much debate and opposition, permission is obtained for a trial in the Court of Spirit, where Christian Science is allowed to appear as counsel for the unfortunate prisoner. ...and opens the argument for the defence: —

  The prisoner at the bar has been unjustly sentenced. ...The law of our Supreme Court decrees that whosoever sinneth shall die; but good deeds are immortal ...I ask that the Supreme Court of Spirit reverse this decision.

Christian Science turned from the abashed witnesses, his words flashing as lightning in the perturbed faces of these worthies, Scholastic Theology, Materia Medica, Physiology, the blind Hypnotism, and the masked Personal Sense, and said: —

   God will smite you, O whited walls ...You came to his rescue, only to fasten upon him an offence of which he was innocent. ...Our higher statutes declare you all, witnesses, jurors, and judges, to be offenders ...You cannot trample upon the decree of the Supreme Bench. Mortal Man has his appeal to Spirit, God, who sentences only for sin. ...I appeal to the just and equitable decisions of divine Spirit to restore to Mortal Man the rights of which he has been deprived.

Here the counsel for the defence closed

The Supreme Bench decides in favor of intelligence, that no law outside of divine Mind can punish or reward Mortal Man. ...We have no trials for sickness before the tribunal of divine Spirit. There, Man is adjudged innocent of transgressing physical laws, because there are no such laws. Our statute is spiritual, our Government is divine. "Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?"

The Jury of Spiritual Senses agreed at once upon a verdict, and there resounded throughout the vast audience-chamber of Spirit the cry, Not guilty. Then the prisoner rose up regenerated, strong, free. ...Mortal Man, no longer sick and in prison, walked forth

In a word, columns.

Why are you grateful for church?

In a word, columns. The spiritual idea of Church has often been expressed by using classical architectural designs that usually include columns. Columns express many qualities. They are beautiful, solid, mathematical structural elements. They are silent sentinels that inspire thoughts of simplicity, strength, beauty, trustworthiness and more in all who pass through and by. Church columns, to me, represent the congregation. To explain why, I wrote the following folk tale.

The boy who wanted to leave his village

Grey Hairs, the village elder, was quietly listening to a boy who wanted to leave his village because it was an unhappy place and made him unhappy. As he listened, he picked up a slender stick from the ground. When the boy fell silent, he asked the boy if he could break it. The boy laughed and snapped it in two.

The elder then picked up a number of slender sticks, took a strip of bark from a tree limb, wrapped the bundle with the bark strip and tied it. He handed the bundle to the boy and asked him if he could break the bundle. Laughing, the boy took the bundle and tried to snap it but could not. A frown formed on his brow as he applied more strength but still could not snap the bundle.

Grey Hairs then began to take away sticks from the bundle one by one. Each time he removed a stick, he retied the bark strip and asked the boy if he could break the bundle. After taking away several sticks the boy snapped the bundle. The elder asked the boy what he had learned.

After thinking for a few minutes, the boy looked into the eyes of Grey Hairs and said, "If I leave my village because it is an unhappy place, my village will be less strong. If more boys feel like me and leave, our village will be snapped by adversity and become as dust in the wind. Our families will be carried away like the dust, too. Grey Hairs, I love my family, but how can I stay in this unhappy village? I want to live in a happy place.”

Grey Hairs put his head close to the boy's ear and whispered, “Then change it, my boy. Change comes from within! If you want a happy village, share your joy. Joy is like leaven, share your joy until the whole village is leavened.”

In the next moment, the boy heard his mother call for him. He quickly told Grey Hairs goodbye and started walking to his house. As he walked, he thought about how when he would skip down the road and whistle like a bird, some of the villagers would smile at him. They didn't join in but they smiled. Then he remembered how each day, more of them would be in their yards when he skipped by. Next he remembered the day that one of them waved at him and how the day after, there was a treat waiting on the fence for him. They all seemed happy to see him and he felt happy thinking of them.

“How could the village be an unhappy place if the villagers that he knew were happy?” he wondered.

When he was about half way to his house, he thought about the bundle of sticks. Suddenly the image bundle of sticks seemed to change into a bundle of villagers, a village that could not be snapped. A strong bundle of happy villagers. And with everyone standing tall they looked a little bit like the beautiful column his dad drew in the dust one afternoon.

The boy grinned as he walk in the door of his house. He had just realized that he didn't want to leave his village. In fact his village felt totally happy.

"Mom," he said, "Grey Hairs taught me something about our village. It made me realize that I don't want to leave. In fact, I can't leave. I have work to do. I must share my joy and let it leaven the whole village. It would be foolish of me to leave our happy village."

The boy's mother sighed with relief and hugged him tight and gave him a fresh baked cake that only angels should make. But that is another tale for another day.

Back to Question #77, isn't it quite possible that the column drawn in the dust was like one of the columns at your Church and represents your happy congregation standing together and standing tall?

B's 5th, Johnathan, you and Soul

Sometimes joy is simply complete. Young children are pure joy to watch as they explore and interact with life, with music, with colors, with weather, with anything and everything. Joy in observation is often complete in and of itself.

I found such joy in watching child is named Johnathan who, at 3, is well on his way to becoming a Symphony Conductor. On his mom's YouTube channel, there are a variety of videos starring Johnathan as Conductor and as Violinist. In the sidebar there are suggested videos of other children performing. The expression of Soul in all these videos is as exciting as it is amazing.

Just think about it. Soul knows and bestows all that it has on each of us. Soul's infinite resources remain infinite after the many generations of man have received of its magnanimity. There is no end to Soul's provision for every one of us.

Enjoy the 4th movement of Beethoven's 5th Symphony performed by the Berliner Philharmoniker co-conducted by Herbert von Karajan and Johnathan. Let Soul speak imperatively to you of your heart's desire. Soul placed it there for you to discover and find delight in it. You are the beloved of Soul and abundantly blessed.

BEAUTY begets GRATITUDE

Each one of us experiences beauty individually. We share our experience uniquely. Some of us share in silence, some use logic, some emotion, some order, some words, some science, some art, some construct, some spirituality, some work, some friendship, some duty, some music, some constancy, some dance and so on in an endless list. The common thread is a too-full sense of gratitude that overflows to bless all around us. It's that feeling of happiness that demands us to smile at everyone and everything. It claims all is beautiful.

Have you ever seen an Atheist and a Theist or any other dissimilar pair, enraptured by beauty and willing to interrupt their bliss to use that shared beauty as a weapon to attack one another for their differing viewpoints? In that moment they are united. They are at peace. They are embraced by beauty that is more dear in that moment than personhood.

The power of beauty to stir gratitude in every heart

Beauty bars complaint. Beauty inspires gratitude. Gratitude is unbridled. Gratitude blesses impersonally as the rain.

The power of beauty to stir gratitude in every heart, without exception, became clear to me as I watched two Ted Talks by Louie Schwartzberg. His time lapse photography thrills all, regardless of what persons believe or know. It draws everyone together under one umbrella, free of angst.

...an Aha! Eureka! moment

It was an Aha! Eureka! moment. What I saw was exactly what I had been seeking. I saw that we have been trying to capture and proliferate PEACE without understanding or recognizing it. I saw that BEAUTY has been quietly, continuously and effectively working to that peaceful end without notice or applause. Until now, that is.

Beauty tears down the walls that finity keeps building to separate us into groups according to art, science, theology, physical characteristics, status and you name it, all inside our shared home.

...it is not music, but beauty, the soul of music, that unites

People often say that music unites. But just maybe it is not music, but beauty, the soul of music, that unites. Music verifies that soul is truly the home or seat of beauty, but soul is not limited to music. Soul has many homes for beauty. Homes are found within every element of the universe. And in each soul-centered home, beauty begets unbounded gratitude. And gratitude impels outward action that blesses. One writer, I read, Mary BakerEddy, describes home as the dearest spot on earth, and it should bethe centre, though not the boundary, of the affections.

At TEDxSF, Louie Schwartzberg almost posed this question:

Is it nature or beauty in nature that captivates us?

Here is my answer:

It is beauty. It is Beauty, in and of itself, that captivates and reduces us to a state of gratitude that impels us to extend a blessing to all around us. Filled with Gratitude, we bless with a smile, a look, a touch, our presence.

And so now you can see, it is that we, ourselves, who happily fulfill beauty's promise that today "will really be a good day."

Let each of us open our eyes to see enough beauty to fill us with gratitude for a good day, today,
