used to think that if you’ve tried one ramen, you’ve tried them all, and that
basically they didn’t taste much different from those instant ones you can
purchase at the grocery store. I never really understood the ramen craze, never really
contemplated ramen beyond my tried-and-tested Nissin.
My
cousins brought me to Ikkoryu Fukuoka Ramen at Shangri-La Mall on a treat (I'll always be glad that they introduced me to the place), and
fortunately I picked this variant from the menu. After the first spoonful, the
first word out of my mouth was “Wow.”

The
pork broth is, simply put, DELICIOUS. It’s arguably the most flavorful broth I
have ever tasted thus far; salty and milky and just so savory. It took me
several spoonfuls to remember that there were other things to eat in the bowl,
too. :D

The
half-boiled egg, marinated in a special sauce, added to the taste (I actually considered getting an
extra egg), and the noodles were just right.

Instead of creating recipes or reviewing restaurants and rating their food, ambience, service, prices, etc. according to a scale or system, I'll be posting about specific food items -- and only the good ones!

Meaning, the fact that they made it to these pages, that they're listed here, indicates that they're great to begin with. They're all delicious, all stellar, and all awesome. Something like a Greatest Hits album, if you will. These can range from dishes served in upscale restaurants to snacks bought at the neighborhood grocery store, from foreign cuisine to native treats, from homebakers' creations to fastfood chains' offerings. What they do have in common, though, is that they're yummy!

Of course, as with anything, there may be differences in opinion; you may or may not agree with my selections. After all, as they say, there's no accounting for taste (this traditionally means in the aesthetic sense, but it definitely applies in the gastronomic sense as well!). I claim no culinary degree nor food-business experience; these are, quite simply, the views and opinions of an ordinary, satisfied, food-loving customer. Everything you'll see here will be food that I honestly and sincerely believe are just really good, worth writing about and worth trying.

And so, without further ado, "Kain tayo!" ("Let's eat!")
