Sometimes I have to finish a painting before I know what its about. . Looking at the past 3 - 4 abstract paintings I can see some references or suggestions of underwater shapes and the constant moving of. A metaphor for life perhaps...constant movement, shifting, floating, coasting, sinking, swimming..lapping

I really liked how the orange in the centers of the flowers mirror the orange bits in this painting.

Whew! This one was a toughy for some reason, though i am very pleased at the outcome. Painting is so unpredictable, i suppose in particular this approach. Every paint stoke reveals what is to come about.

The photo reference for these flower paintings are from quite a few years ago. Since just back from the desert it made me think of the time lag between seeing something of interest, taking the photo and then painting it. Hopefully the time lag between taking the desert photos and painting them wont be so long, otherwise I will run out of time!..So many wonderful things to paint.

I always feel like painting flowers this time of year..as if by painting them spring will arrive!. Maybe that is the point of painting, to create ones own reality.? Thoughts anyone on the point of painting?

Its really a joy to get out yellows, reds, pink and oranges and squeeze them out on the palette.

Nimbus Grey, A Pond Or an Abstract?

I just finished painting the dining room a new colour, Nimbus Grey, I love it, the perfect sky colour somewhere between blue and grey and I think shows off paintings well. I love paintings on a coloured wall. I wonder if the preference though is the Pond Or the Abstract.? Paintings take on another life when placed in a home or wherever they find themselves.

I think I am happiest in the path to discovery, rather than knowing the outcome before i start. Like the paintings have a story to tell me that I havent yet heard.

The weather was so much brighter today than yesterday I rephotographed this painting. Yesterday was so dismal and dark I dont know why I persisted!. Photoshop helps somewhat but there is nothing quite like good natural light. What a difference! November is perhaps the hardest month for photographing artwork.

I love this group of trees, A little grove up on Helliwell, passed by on one of many walks, I finally noticed them, the view to the sea is so spectacular i hadnt really spend much time looking at the trees.

I am really getting into painting trees lately, I think this was from a photo taken up on Helliwell, ..there are some beautiful stands of trees up there. I like it when trees seem to group togeather like an intentional meeting or hanging out ..they look like friends or family! or is my imagination overactive!!??

I noticed the white appearing trunk and pretty light coloured grasses while driving across Denman Island in the usual mad dash to the ferry. I did quickly pull over to snap the photo and was glad I did. Sometimes one drives by a beautiful place so often they "no" longer see it as photo worthy..but really its all about noticing the light play on its surroundings.

Meanwhile today we woke up to frost! And its so pretty as there are still orange and red leaves on the trees.

I titled this painting, "Every Which Way" because the painting almost worked from in every direction! So a few abstracts for exploration and to increase the creative flow and now back to my Hornby/ seascape paintings.
