Want to dabble in something related to architectural and landscaping? People often try landscaping not only to escape boredom, but to find other means of expressing themselves. After all, peppering a scene with plants and statues is enough to interest anyone passing by.

People love to go to gardens mainly for two reasons: to observe the plants being grown there, and to bask in the ambience of nature. There is something about being immersed in greenery that soothes and refreshes the viewer. Gardens can be constructed near one own home in order to implement cost-effectiveness. Home gardens are constructed not only for aesthetic purposes, but also to foster plants which the owner can later harvest. Examples of such gardens include herb, fruit, and vegetable gardens.

These gardens are easy to cultivate and maintain. There are also gardens which are more luxurious, and which usually serve as the backdrop for hotels, restaurants, and other event places. These gardens are usually made up of varieties of palms, and painstakingly maintained to aesthetic perfection. Then there are gardens which showcase an object or dwelling. Statues are a common prop in such gardens. The garden serves to enhance the appeal of the object that is showcasing.

A country cottage garden consists of a cottage house surrounded by a fruit or vegetable garden. Constructing one such garden brings into mind images of the feudal age, when farmers lived in humble cottages and kept gardens in order to supply their family with fruits and vegetables. A lot of planning and effort is required in order to construct the perfect country cottage garden. First, you will have to build or choose an existing cottage house. This will serve as the foundation of your garden. If you are going to build a house from scratch, you have to be prepared to shell out money for construction materials and labor. If you are building the garden around an existing cottage house, you may have to buy the house, or the whole property itself. After all, the cottage house is an essential feature of the country cottage garden.

Next, you will have to decide what your garden will consist of. If you have limited budget, you can settle for vegetables and fruits, which are easy to maintain. If you want your country cottage garden to be a bit more luxurious, you can integrate palms into your garden, or an array of flowers. There are many possible combinations when it comes to the layout of your country cottage garden. You can search the internet for popular landscape layouts, you can take a garden design courses, or you can opt to break away from the trend and think up of a brand-new take on the country cottage garden design. Whatever design you choose, always keep in mind that keeping a certain balance is essential in landscaping. Moderate yourself whenever you are tempted to showcase too many types of plants, or when you want to focus on one plant only. Variety is a good feature of a successful country cottage garden, but do not overdo it.

Kevin Payne is gardener enthusiast, and enjoys helping others get started in this amazing hobby. The newest eBook, "Herb Garden Kits," teaches gardening and everything you need to know about Garden Design Courses.
In an era in which frugality and wise use of resources is replacing boastful strutting and ostentatious display, the cottage lifestyle is coming more and more into its own. Here are some ideas which you can incorporate into your own cottage house plan, or improve your existing cottage home.

The essence of cottage interiors is the blending of the familiar with the fresh - with matching your grandmother's heritage silverware with your contemporary style plate or an antique chiffonier with up-to-date casements. Mixing the old with the new adds patina and personality to a cottage home and makes a unique statement about the owner. It says "home" instead of "look how rich I am!" In the same way, bold wallpaper and paint styles can be used to create a feeling of open space in smallish rooms, especially when the walls reflect decorative patterns repeated on rugs and furnishings. Again, the idea is not to create a mishmash but rather a blending of disparate elements. Bookshelves, knick-knacks, small decorative elements - even children's artwork - can be brought together to make cottage living feel as comfortable and familiar as wearing an old favorite jacket or hat. Old style pictures in old style frames, collectible plates, even quilts can be hung on walls. Dried flower arrangements in vases or folk art sculptures can be used to decorate table tops.
The small spaces inherent in cottage house plans can be offset in part by using light, bright colors on walls to give the illusion of extra space. Using light, gauzy materials to cover window areas which allow maximum light to flood the room, and which flutter in the breeze, also help to create a sense of airiness and space. A feeling of increased height can be obtained by tasteful choice of beaded board wall coverings, vertical design wallpaper, and tall bookshelves and furnishings. The sense of the cottage lifestyle is laid-back, inviting you to slouch on the sofa, put up your feet, and rest a spell. Furnishings are unpretentious, casual, and cozy rather than stiff. You can choose a sofa for its relaxed, overstuffed attitude. The coffee table should invite people to put their feet up on it. You can just cut down a kitchen table to size, or add a glass top to a chicken coop. Wicker settees, like those used on porches, also give a feeling of relaxation and naturalness. Easy chairs should generally follow the style of the sofa, but not be exactly matching. Keep the style relaxed, eclectic, and inexpensive-looking rather than formal and intended to impress. Use casual table lamps with fabric shades in floral prints or gingham. Lamp bases can be terra-cotta, wicker, or ceramic and nothing need match anything else, as long as there is a sense of blending. The essence of cottage home plans is ease, relaxation, and feeling good about who and where you are.
If you are looking for a wonderful theme for your wedding décor, garden cottage style would be a beautiful choice. The comfortable, yet pretty, look of an English garden makes for a warm and inviting wedding reception.
When you start designing your garden cottage wedding, it will be important to choose the right venue. An outdoor setting is ideal, but an indoor location could work as well. Just be sure to choose a reception site that has plenty of natural light, and is not too modern or formal. Definitely shoot for a late spring or a summer wedding.
Cottage style is always cozy and inviting, and often a bit cluttered. Don't be afraid to really fill up your space with little knick knacks or small floral arrangements in the various nooks and crannies. If your venue space feels too wide open and cold, warm it up with accents like decorative fabric screens and potted trees in the corners.
Painted furniture is one of the cornerstones of garden cottage style, so if your venue does not have this type of thing, plan to rent it. For the reception seating, white wooden slat chairs would be ideal. If you have the space (and the budget), it would look great to create a lounge seating area with whitewashed wooden side tables and coffee tables, along with overstuffed armchairs in a faded floral or a stripe design.
Flowers are naturally one of the most important parts of a garden cottage theme. They should be lush, abundant, and informal. You want the centerpieces to be full and overflowing, but simply arranged, rather like you just plucked these beautiful blossoms from your own garden and popped them into unfussy vases and other vessels. Us the types of flowers that grow in yards, not greenhouses. Great choices include roses, peonies, and lilacs.
The bride and her attendants will want their attire to fit in with the garden cottage theme. Look for dresses in feminine fabrics, such as lace and chiffon. You want to choose gowns that are beautiful, but not excessively formal. For example, the bride could wear something like a handbeaded chiffon draped over a silk crepe. A little sweep train would be just right. Another option would be a simple strapless gown created from a delicate lace.
The bridesmaids should wear equally pretty attire. Colors like pale pink, sage green, or lilac would be wonderful for their dresses. For the bridesmaid jewelry gifts, the bride should look for graceful and elegant pieces. Dainty drop pearl and crystal earrings and pendants would be ideal, especially with the matching bracelets. Gifts of bridesmaid jewelry are a great way for the bride to thank her attendants while adding the perfect finishing touches to their wedding ensembles at the same time.
Every bride wants her wedding to be pretty and romantic. A garden cottage theme is a great way to have a wedding that has a feeling that is romantic and distinctive. The relaxed backdrop of an English country cottage will make for a warm and inviting reception for you and your guests.
Colors are what give life and personality to your room.
Here are some quickies to keep in mind when deciding over colors.
1. If you are using many colors in one single room, make sure you use a color at least three times in the same room. You could use shades and tints of that color. For e.g. your curtains, pillows and tablecloth can be of the same color. This gives a look of harmony and help avoid the 'too much' and 'confused' look.
2. For filling space, use warm colors like reds, yellows and oranges. They tend to grab the eye and fill the space and are soothing and warm.
3. For giving an illusion of more and open space, use cool colors like blues, greens and violets.
4. For a serene and comforting look, use pale pinks. The closer pink gets to red, the more energetic it becomes.
5. Use vertical stripes on walls and curtains for an illusion of height.
6. Light colored walls and ceilings make the room look larger and more spacious.
7. Try to avoid contradicting colors and themes. If you want your room to look larger and need to use cool colors to achieve it, choose a theme which goes with cool colors.
8. If same-colored sofa, carpet and other upholstery give a monotonous look, use colorful cushions and wall-hangings to break the monotony.

If you are lucky enough to have a larger size bathroom than most, the cottage style can be accentuated and toyed with to become nothing less than spectacular! We have rounded up some of our favourite cottage style bathrooms to inspire your own decorating - just remember that the few rules of cottage style are that it should be very homely, cosy and full of charm; take a peep at what we have in store for you.

Where would the cottage style be without its iconic floral prints on textiles and accessories? We love to see some of these florals in the cottage bathroom; especially if you are going for a more feminine look. Its pretty, welcoming and very homely - dare we say luxurious too with your choice of fabrics and accessories. It would be just perfect if your bath sat in front of a window; this time dressed with flowing floral made to measure curtains as opposed to blinds - you might want to use both though when in need of more privacy! A claw foot bath would definitely act as a statement piece, all the more so when your curtains can be opened to frame it.

Do choose a delicate floral print that steers more towards a vintage look as opposed to contemporary; you can always bring in more vivid colours with other textiles such as a vibrant red and white striped bath rug or ruby red towels displayed on open shelving. Complete the look with some country inspired accessories such as wicker baskets and even a white or cream wicker chair when there is room.

* Another essentially cottage look is achieved with rustic pieces alongside feminine accessories and again - a beautiful claw foot bath when its at all possible! Do pay attention to how you accessorise, down to the curtain poles, storage units and cute little candles around the bath. We love to see the contrast of black, wrought iron curtain poles with the softness of cream seen in wall paint, storage units (with an aged appearance to best effect) and country style ready made curtains. The charm comes mostly from the simplicity of colour choices, accessories and one statement piece such as the bath - which would also look best when painted to match your colour scheme of cream and white.

* A sense of calm is called for in most bathrooms and the cottage style is great at setting the right mood. Start your makeover with some traditional cottage décor - tongue and groove panelling is both cottage charm and country classic. The claw foot bath comes in again with this final look, but you can always stay with an existing fitting - just try to make it more romantic by having mixer taps central to the bath instead of placed at one end (better for sharing a long soak!) Continue this subtle romance with soft lighting - a large rustic lantern or two with candles can be placed by the bath and pretty vintage florals for storage boxes and curtains.

Curtain Wizard specialize in the distribution of ready made curtains, made to measure curtains and eyelet curtains.

As you all know, when people start talking about gardens, people tend to think about a lot of things such as, a garden gives a person a fresh scenery of green plants and gives you a satisfying memory of the flowers' scent. The first thing that people think when they hear about country garden cottage design is the English cottage which has a soothing and comfortable effect because it is being surrounded will green lush garden which is full of shrubs that are flowery and plants that are enclosed around the fence. This is very relaxing scenery to everyone, but don't you know that you too can have your very own cottage garden which will give a satisfying and relaxing scenery. Save yourself of going away from your home just to experience this feeling, by having your own cottage garden you will feel very relax at the comfort of your own home.

One of the most important features that your cottage garden should have is the soothing and relaxing feeling. Once you achieved this thing you are on your way of creating your own imagination in to real life. The first thing that you should do is to think about the landscape of your garden. If your garden is small, you can have a small soothing garden with a trimmed neat lining of flowers and bushes which are filled with beautiful shrubs. If you have a big garden, you can make it look elegant by putting some green plants and alluring flowers and add some fountain or waterfall in the landscape.

You don't need to worry about what plants to grow because there are a wide range of herbs and plants that you can choose. You can look for some books about creating a nice and relaxing cottage garden. You can have plants that can easily grow and develop perfectly without the need of too much caring. Avoid choosing plants that are hard to maintain specially during cold weather as these are not the best choice for a cottage garden.

You can also add some flower shrubs to your garden to make it look alluring. Remember that flowers can help your garden to look elegant, bright and gorgeous. If you want your garden to be useful as well, why not try planting some vegetables and fruits, in this way your garden is not only alluring in the eyes but also useful for your everyday needs.

You can search the internet for some tips about the proper setting of a garden. You can also ask for the help of a landscape designer which will give you fresh ideas for your cottage garden plants such as a unique design or appearance. Remember to not over do your garden as this will not be soothing in the eyes. You should put in mind that a cottage garden should consist of flowers and plants that you loved to have. Your cottage garden plants will reflect your personality so you should definitely make it as simple and soothing as possible.

Mattis Bailey is gardener enthusiast, and enjoys helping others get started in this amazing hobby. However, after searching for many hours you have yet to fall in love with any certain plan. You can't afford to invest in entirely custom drawn home plans and you are just about to give up hope that this dream home is out there but don't quit yet! The solution is right in front of you and it won't break your budget.
Somewhere in those hours of reviewing stock plans, you probably came across a plan or two that was almost exactly what you were looking for, whether it be small cottage home plans or Spanish mission houseplans. Perhaps you want a slightly different exterior or you need one room to be slightly larger. Maybe you wish the garage entry was placed differently or the master bath had a larger shower and smaller linen closet. All of these changes are options when it comes to customizing stock plans to fit your particular needs. Many home design designers and architects that develop stock home plans have modifications available for their house plans. Taking advantage of these options allows you to turn an "almost-perfect" plan into the dream home you absolutely love - and at a much more affordable cost than entirely customizing your dream home and starting from scratch!
Modifications to stock plans typically change some structure of the plan - from moving an interior wall, altering the exterior facade, or swapping out one foundation for another. To take advantage of these customizations, you need to be aware of your dream home's needs. Keep in mind the following limitations:
Know your lot - Before setting your heart on a specific stock plan with modifications, be familiar with your lot. Is it sloping or will it be leveled out? What is the water table? Is a finished basement practical or should you look for a plan with a second floor bonus room? Can you build a house plans ranch walkout basement?
Look ahead - Right now your family of three is perfectly comfortable in a two-bedroom house. However, what about a year or even five years from now? New additions to the family will need their own space, from children's nurseries to elderly parents who may need to move in with you. You cannot always perfectly anticipate your family's needs, but preparing now by finding a plan with an extra bathroom or a multifunctional bonus room is a terrific idea. In addition to space, look for plans that will allow easy incorporation of technological advances as well as good future resale value.
Know your weather - The weather and climate not only affects the way you dress but also the way you outfit your home. New England homes have peaked roofs so heavy snow will fall off the roof rather than cave it in. Coastal homes that face tornado and hurricane assaults have flat roofs that help avoid detrimental wind damage. Be aware of what your dream home will need to avoid unnecessary work and expensive repair in the future.
"Almost" does not cut it - The most important thing is to love the plan you choose and the modifications you've decided to make to it. If something still isn't right, do not ignore that feeling. Take time to look over the plan carefully. Look at a few more stock plans and see if modifying a different plan would be easier. Remember that customizations are being done to get exactly what you want, not just as-close-as possible.
Once you have determined the modifications you desire, it's time to get them started! Depending on the stock plan you choose, the process may differ. Be prepared to submit a modification request form that should include detailed explanations of the modifications desired. And referring to the rooms as they are on the stock plan will make it a quicker and easier process. A quote will be returned to you within days. Accepting this quote will lead to approving drafts, and sooner rather than later you will be ready to start building.

At times the process to get the dream home you imagine may seem daunting. But, with a little patience and attention to detail, it is surely not impossible. Remember that designers and architects also benefit from your modification requests. By hearing directly from the customer what does and does not work for them, entirely new plans are often designed. And in the end, these enhanced plans turn your dream home into a reality for others looking for the perfect home. If your looking for small cottage home plans, spanish mission houseplans or even house plans ranch walkout basement, visit House Plans and More Today!
To most people, the words conjure thoughts of a colorful, scented, peaceful place, but in days of old nothing could have been further from the truth. In fact the English Country Garden was born, half from necessity and the other half by accident.
In feudal England a peasants life was harsh, they were almost slaves and the greater part of what they could grow went to their feudal lord and 10% of all they grew went as a 'tithe', for the upkeep of the church and the priesthood. The rest, such as it was, they could keep for themselves.
In 1348 - 1350 The Black Death ravaged England and the surviving peasants demanded higher wages, fewer working hours and even their freedom. As there was a serious shortage of workers the lords of the manor often gave in. Thirty years later a 'poll' or head tax was levied resulting in the Peasants Revolt. A slightly better lifestyle followed, and the lords of the manor often gave their serfs a two roomed 'tied' cottage with a patch of ground around it.
This small piece of land had to keep the family in as much food as possible, they would have a chicken coop for eggs and the occasional chicken, a goat for milk, and perhaps a pig to slaughter and salt as well as the 'cess pit' for waste.
The lady or 'good wife' as she was called would plant herbs for medicinal purposes such as chesty coughs, headaches, children's complaints and of course to cook with. What was left of the 'garden' was taken up with vegetables such as onions, peas, beans, as well as greens and small fruit trees. There was no room for flowers. But hollyhocks, delphiniums, red-hot pokers, lupins, love- in- a- mist and many other self seeders all found a place for themselves, no planning or designing, just Mother Nature at her best.
Later, when the peasant farmers realized that adding flowers and herbs to their vegetable plot would help to attract bees to pollinate their crops, the traditional English Country Garden evolved with its deep borders and vibrant mix of scented flowers and herbs, meandering pathways and a rustic bench tucked away in a quiet corner. A bird bath to encourage songbirds, a sundial, even a small water feature would add to the gardens peaceful ambiance, but please, no ruined temples, or Chinese Pagodas, think dry stone walls, chaotic, colorful flowers and thatched roofs for the authentic English country look.
It also puts one in mind of beautiful beaches, rocky cliffs and endless skies. Perhaps a mountainous backdrop with animals grazing in the distance enters the scene. However imagined, the English countryside would be a perfect place to visit.

Located just a relatively short distance from London, it is possible to make the commute to the city daily for work and still have a heavenly retreat from a hectic day in the city. Who could resist the draw of the pretty scenery and lifestyle provided by such beautiful land that borders the seaside and the mountains?

Reaching this destination for international travelers arriving at Heathrow Airport requires a train ride into Paddington Station, and then another ninety minute train journey out of the city. Bus (coach) service is available, though it will take a slightly longer time to arrive, with a ride lasting about three or four hours. By auto, expect a two hour road trip on the M4.

Once there, your breath is taken away by visions of sea and sky, sandy beaches, cliffs and mountains. The pleasure of staying in English country cottages will surpass any thoughts of relaxation and comfort, and will, of course, offer tons of personality. As a stay for the holidays or a break from the pressures of daily life, a stay in such a home will charm and entice your every sense. Delightful would be the cottage with a thatched roof, but no less wonderful is a newer home with modern conveniences as we have come to appreciate, such as a washer and dryer and adequate heat and hot water.

Homeowners and vacationers alike will appreciate the square cottage with an attic or eave suitable for a snug reading loft, as will the chef preparing a meal for a hunting party just back and expecting some hearty fare cooked on the giant old stove. Mismatched dishes that have been stuffed into an old kitchen dresser complete the image of a simpler time, while meeting every need and expectation of those partaking in the meal offered. Only a great old Aga with an endless pot of tea boiling makes this picture complete. Fear not, homes that are available to let are usually quite updated, and can accommodate any number of guests. Perfect for a family reunion or celebration, the picturesque beauty will sing to any visitors who choose to make this countryside a memory.

One can only imagine the delight of English country cottages, enjoying the seaside, sandy beaches, golf or horseback riding. A trip to the pub for a pint or a day of exploring castles will surely be made more special with the anticipation of a warm cup of tea in front of a fire calling you home.

Unlike hotels, cottages allow for an authentic English countryside holiday, immersing you in the charm and mystique of the country as you literally become part of the experience. As compared to staying in hotels for your vacation, English country cottages can make the difference between a good vacation and a great one.
There are countless reasons why staying in a cottage is a better choice than a hotel. For those travelers who come to the English countryside, authenticity is often an important factor in their vacation. After all, England in steeped in history, and its cottages capture that spirit with original building materials that often date back hundreds of years. Many cottages have their original flooring and roof, and a traveler can wonder who came before him as he rests his feet near the fireplace after a long day on the countryside. Solid wooden beams rest upon original stone walls, traversing the ceiling as they open into a thatched roof. But don't let their age fool you; English country cottages are restored with utmost attention to detail. The kitchen and bathrooms have all the typical modern-day amenities so you can sample the history without actually having to relive it.
While many hotels are located in the city, most cottages are located away from populated areas- usually seated right in the middle of the English countryside itself. Many offer fantastic views of rolling hills, meadows, forests, and streams. To wake up to a trickling stream as you enjoy the patio view over breakfast is an incomparable experience.
Cottages come in a variety of shapes, colors, and sizes. They can accommodate anything from a big family of twenty, to a romantic getaway for two. There are cottages located as far from, or as near to any city centers that you choose; allowing you to customize your experience based on your particular preferences and circumstances.
What's best about English cottages is they're oftentimes cheaper than a nice hotel! Rather than staying in a small room, you have an entire home to yourself. There's no hotel staff or noisy neighbors to intrude on your privacy, and there's plenty of room to stretch out and relax. If you enjoy cooking you can store all the amenities you need as you enjoy your private kitchen and sitting room. Rental agreements usually last for a week or more, but some agents will allow three or four-day stays as well.
There are countless cottages dotted throughout the English countryside, each with a charm and history unique unto itself. When comparing the history and mystique of English country cottages to hotels, the differences are immeasurable. For a vacation that really captures the beauty and history of the English countryside, English country cottages are by far the best choice for your holiday. They can make the difference between a good vacation and a great one.

There are many reasons which make staying in an English Country Cottage a better choice than a hotel. For one, renting a cottage costs a fraction of what you would pay at a hotel. The cottages are self-catering so you can stock up with essentials for breakfast and tea and also have an occasional meal at the cottage if you wish. Instead of staying in a small room, you have an entire cottage to yourself. So there's plenty of room to move around and relax plus no hotel staff to intrude on your privacy. Cottage rentals are usually for a week but some are given out even for three to four days as well.
You will find that many English Country Cottages generally date back a hundred years or more and some of them even have the original flooring and roof. Thick wooden beams on the ceiling, original fireplaces and solid stone walls will beat a hotel for ambiance any day. Most cottages are lovingly restored and often have antique furniture. The kitchen and bathrooms have all the modern amenities so you won't have to compromise on comfort either.
Then there's the matter of the location. These cottages are often located just off the main city or town and have gorgeous views of rolling hills, streams and forests. To just get up in the morning and enjoy a quiet breakfast on the patio overlooking a stunning view is a priceless experience.
The country cottages come in a variety of sizes so they can accommodate anywhere between 2 to 20 people. So whether you are looking for a romantic holiday for two or a holiday with family and friends, the country cottages are the perfect place to spend time together, without having to worry about disturbing hotel guests.

There are plenty of options in the market and a little research will help you identify a cottage that suits your needs. Who bids the waves be still in thee,
And keeps you from all dangers free
      Amidst the wreck;
All sin, and care, and dangers flee
      E’en at His beck.

And on that great and dreadful day
When heaven and earth shall pass away,
Each soul to bliss He will convey,
      That knows His name;
And give the giddy world a prey
      To quenchless flame.

So oft when Sabbaths bade us rest,
And heavenly zeal inspired your breast,
Obedient to the high behest
      You preached to all,
Whilst God your zealous efforts blessed,
      And owned your call.

The very thought my soul inspires,
And kindles bright her latent fires;
My Muse feels heart-warm fond desires,
      And spreads her wing,
And aims to join th’ angelic choirs,
      And sweetly sing.

May rosy Health with speed return,
And all your wonted ardour burn,
And sickness buried in his urn,
      Sleep many years!
So, countless friends who loudly mourn,
      Shall dry their tears!

Your wailing flock will all rejoice
To hear their much-loved shepherd’s voice,
And long will bless the happy choice
      Their hearts have made,
And tuneful mirth will swell the noise
      Through grove and glade.

Your dearer half will join with me
To celebrate the jubilee,
And praise the Great Eternal Three
      With throbbing joy,
And taste those pleasures pure and free
      Which never cloy.

When balmy scents perfume the gale,
And purling rills and linnets hail
      The King of kings,
To muse with you I never fail,
      On heavenly things.

Where dashing cataracts astound,
And foaming shake the neighbouring ground,
And spread a hoary mist around,
      With you I gaze!—
And think, amid’st the deaf’ning sound,
      On wisdom’s ways.

Where rocky mountains prop the skies,
And round the smiling landscape lies,
Whilst you look down with tearful eyes
      On grovelling man,
My sympathetic fancy flies,
      The scene to scan.

From Pisgah’s top we then survey
The blissful realms of endless day,
And all the short but narrow way
      That lies between,
Whilst Faith emits a heavenly ray,
      And cheers the scene.

With you I wander on the shore
To hear the angry surges roar,
Whilst foaming through the sands they pour
      With constant roll,
And meditations heavenward soar,
      And charm the soul.

On life’s rough sea we’re tempest-driven
In crazy barks, our canvas riven!
Such is the lot to mortals given
      Where sins resort:
But he whose anchor’s fixed in heaven
      Shall gain the port.

Though swelling waves oft beat him back,
And tempests make him half a wreck,
And passions strong, with dangerous tack,
      Retard his course,
Yet Christ the pilot all will check,
      And quell their force.

So talk we as we thoughtful stray
Along the coast, where dashing spray
With rising mist o’erhangs the day,
      And wets the shore,
And thick the vivid flashes play
      And thunders roar!

Whilst passing o’er this giddy stage,
A pious and a learned sage
Resolved eternal war to wage
      With passions fell;
How oft you view with holy rage
      These imps of hell!

See! with what madd’ning force they sway
The human breast and lead astray,
Down the steep, broad, destructive way,
      The giddy throng;
Till grisly death sweeps all away
      The fiends among!

As when the mad tornado flies,
And sounding mingles earth and skies,
And wild confusion ’fore the eyes
      In terrors dressed.
So passions fell in whirlwinds rise,
      And rend the breast!

But whilst this direful tempest raves,
And many barks are dashed to staves,
I see you tower above the waves
      Like some tall rock,
Whose base the harmless ocean laves
      Without a shock!

Here comes a foe, and there a friend,
These point the dart and those defend,
      Whilst some deride her;
But God will sweetest comforts blend,
      Whate’er betide her.

Thus heaven-supported, forth she goes
Midst flatterers, critics, friends, and foes;
Secure, since He who all things knows
      Approves her aim,
And kindly fans, or fostering blows
      Her sinking flame.

Hence, when she shows her honest face,
And tells her tale with awkward grace,
Importunate to gain a place
      Amongst your friends,
To ruthless critics leave her case,
      And hail her ends.

To all my heart is kind and true,
But glows with ardent love for you;
Though absent, still you rise in view,
      And talk and smile,
Whilst heavenly themes, for ever new,
      Our cares beguile.

The happy seasons oft return,
When love our melting hearts did burn,
As we through heavenly themes were borne
      With heavenward eyes,
And Faith this empty globe would spurn,
      And sail the skies.

Or, when the rising sun shines bright,
Or, setting, leaves the world in night,
Or, dazzling, sheds his noon-day light,
      Or, cloudy, hides,
My fancy, in her airy flight,
Now I am relating one of a number of articles relating the story of and portraying the environs of Le Moulin de Pont de Chez Lord, France 23430.

When the watermill was constructed the Limousin part of central France was ruled by English forces. The mill was built in around the year 1271 and the regional commander of the garrison lived in a house alongside a bridge over the river Beraude. Since he was a member of the English aristocracy the area became known as Le Pont de Chez Lord which means literally ---- The Bridge by the House of the Lord.

Le Moulin de Chez Lord (which means The Mill of the House of the Lord) was constructed close by the house of the English milord. It was required to prepare the flour to make bread to feed the military and also to mill the oats for the horses. It is not generally known that the potato did not exist in France until very roughly 1450. Thus the construction of the mill was long before the arrival in Europe of the potato and bread was a very substantial part of the diet. The mill had been in use for 300 years before the potato first arrived from South America and eventually became a part of the European meal. This is why for any semi-permanent garrison it was obligatory to have a trustworthy source of flour.

To get the era when the water mill was constructed into some time scale, we should point out that it was the thirteenth century, the time of Richard the Lionheart, who became King of England and Aquitaine the other side of Bordeaux in 1189. So the water mill was constructed in the era of the crusades and Robin Hood in England. The story of King Richard and his involvement locally will be looked at at another time.

In Europe this was the epoch of the start of The Little Ice Age. The Thames in Londres froze over on some occasions and the Scandinavians withdraw from their outposts in Iceland as the polar ice crept south. The sun was less active and the our planet suffered this Little Ice Age that persisted for about five centuries finishing in the middle of the nineteenth century. Crops failed regularly throughout this era ... so much for NOW being a time of specific climatic changes. Here in France the temperature was some 2 degrees below the current average so here at the watermill in winter it was colder and no doubt wetter than now makes me feel sorry for former owners.

The water mill was in use until the 1980s when it milled animal meal. It has now been converted into a holiday cottage in this region of France known as the Limousin.

Now going towards the East there is the Massive Central which is a mountainous sector now famous for winter sports. Turning now towards the west a short journey brings one to Limoges, renowned for its porcelain works and going further still the beautiful town of La Rochelle the largest coastal resort in the Bay of Biscay. This very interesting resort is now also a holiday resort and an important center for yachting.

This part known as the Limousin is a relatively new one on the tourist itinerary as it was for many years a mainly French holiday region however it is becoming well known. It is a locale of grasslands, hills and valleys with many beautiful small villages nestled in the hillsides. The neighborhood contains dozens of lakes in the many valleys which makes for exceptional scenery.

Most rural sports are easily accessible. Particularly important amongst these are the stimulating walks of every rank of exertion thus suiting all abilities and levels of interest.

The historic mill is 700 years of age, and was constructed to grind wheat flour for English military who were garrisoned here to maintain the English commercial interests based in Bordeaux. The watermill is sitting in a valley and includes 10 hectares of meadows and woodland. The water mill lies at the end of a long drive which provides tranquility.

The river Beraude and the mill race almost encircle the water mill and only a few yards from the house is a waterfall which was the runoff for the mill pool. The river flows through the property and forms a delightful island with several trees that is wonderful for relaxing on those very hot days because there always is a wind from the river. We also often have parties and barbecues there on warm summer evenings.

The upstairs of the mill has now been converted into two double bedrooms en suite and the on the ground floor into a living area with kitchen, lounge etc. There is a shaded patio by the waterfall which is ideal for al fresco dining or for enjoying a bottle during summer afternoons.

Since we are lucky enough to live in the center of a most interesting region and in the wonderful countryside, we would like in the future to give you reports in which we will continue to explore the region and describe the abundant attractions of the region.

Why not Google Earth us at Le Moulin Chez Lord, 23430 France and zoom on down and see us!
This delightful small island is devoted entirely to tourism, and has many wonderful sights to explore while you are visiting. The island is run as a timeshare business, which sets it apart from other tourist locations. You can rent holiday cottages, or there is one hotel on the island.

This second largest island of the Isles of Scilly, in Cornwall, UK, is accessible by helicopter or by boat. You will be met at the heliport or quays and delivered to your destination by a quaint farm tractor and passenger trailer. Tresco is car-free, but golf carts are available for visitors who are disabled. Tresco island is leased to the Dorrien-Smith estate, and is owned by the Duchy of Cornwall.

Your rental or timeshare is fully equipped for tourist enjoyment of resort quality. Stay in a traditional English holiday cottage and enjoy local sights and beaches. There is interesting and beautiful scenery on every inch of this 2.972 km (735) acre island. The retreating ice age left its mark of deformation till deposits on the north side of the island, while the south and east coast has mainly shell beaches. There are rugged granite outcrops, and broad heathland to complete the variety of scenery on Tresco.

While tourists enjoy their stay in holiday cottages UK, they are close to very historic locations, including the sub-tropical Tresco Abbey Gardens in the south, and the villages of New Grimsby, and Old Grimsby. These delightful villages are near the center of the island, and do have a shop, post office, pub, art gallery and a hotel. These commercial enterprises are all operated and owned by the Tresco Estate.

Tresco has a dwindling permanent population that numbered only 180 in 2001. Since that year, this island has participated in fundraising for Cystic Fibrosis, with a marathon run of 7½ laps around Tresco. This event coincides with the running of the London Marathon. In addition to shopping and normal tourist activities, the island is filled with historical sights dating back several centuries. Due to its history and geography, Tresco has been featured in fiction. Some points of interest include King Charles's Castle, dating from the mid 1500's, Cromwell's Castle, from the mid 1600's and Oliver's Battery, built by Admiral Robert Blake

For a remarkable UK getaway, fly away to the beautiful island of Tresco and revisit history while you rent or timeshare a traditional English holiday cottage.
