My buddy Mario The 12 Bit Mechanic + fellow Cleveland DJ / Society Sweetie supporter DJ Corey Grand team up as "The Grand Mechanics" for their first project together , "Abstract Cocaina" . I got to preview some of their work a few weeks back . This project has become one of the most anticipated locally ! "Abstract Cocaina" is the product of dedication , the buzz around town , a compilation of audio crack + a masterpiece of two masterminds - cooked up with the right intellectual ingredients and ill equipment . "In a world where creative mines tend to be the reason of originality, everyone likes their art to be heard or seen. In this case of "Abstract Cocaina", DJ Corey Grand teams up with Mario The Mechanic (Producer) to put together some remixes. This was not a project or just something to do, this project took a few months to work on because of different ideas, production, direction, song selection and schedule. The objective of Abstract Cocaina is to take music that was made one way and to be heard from a whole different view of light. Everyone has their own abstract views of life, in which The Grand Mechanics want you to see their vision."

Homes and Sweets WHAT UP! Yeah whatevs I know you’re looking at me with the side eye but I have soooo many update! Let’s jump right into it…..

Yup, thats right, you eyes aren’t deceiving you! We finally got a bigger and more efficient work space! This is just a picture of the studio (our version of the fantasy factory lol) Maddie, Team ss, and I have to sit down together soon and figure out an official date to open it up to the public, but once we figure that ish out we will be offering our services to YEW! And we will be adding sooooooooo much more to the website.

Which brings me to my next announcement—we have a new face around these parts and she isn’t a total stranger but ill let you try to figure it out now before her “official introduction” if you follow me or maddie cakes on twitter you might already have an idea on who this mystery chick is. So do you remember how we use to show our “brother site’s” (Karmaloop) The Daily Loop here on SS? Well we will be doing our own version of that here on SS every Wednesday (starting pretty soon) and the new chick will be the host of that! Remember Jay refered to Maddie Cakes and I as the cuter version of Rob and Big? Well, the new chick is Drama! Lol matter of fact we are on some M.V.P ish ….MIKE (Maddie Cakes since she’s clearly a MAC!) Wait; did you guys see how Cam’ron dissed some random groupie chick on twitter for maddie? Lol well anyways…. PAULY D (me, because you know I’m chill “THE CABS ARE HEA”!) and the new chic is Vinny because she’s the youngest and the slightly boring one.

Did I just jersey shore us out? Yup…I sure did. (An obvious fan of the show!)

Hey Sweeties + Homies !

I was totally supposed to give this to you on Friday when it dropped , however , MC has been busy ! This was my weekend off work so I shot out to my Alma Mater , Bowling Green State University to celebrate Homecoming !

Anyways , I bring you yet another mix from my buddy DJ Corey Grand !

This time , he switches it up by combining sexual and sensual mood music typically heard in your neighborhood’s café or downtown’s lounge . Corey Grand blends the best of soul from the ‘90’s until now in his latest 55 minute mix .

Our generation considers mood music to be a blend between soul and easy listening , even incorporating a funk influence . But , once upon a time , “lounge” music was purely instrumental—embracing the distinct sounds of the saxophone and piano . As time went on , music (like that of all genres) began to embrace the use of words and delivery methods , which ended up becoming just as sensually influential as the instrumental music itself in mood music .

And another interesting fact about “lounge” music demonstrates the major influence of mellow music in lounges—it was once used as a harmonic sedative . With the increasing use of drugs (especially pills) and alcohol used in the lounge or nightclub atmosphere , calming music , with mellow , mid-tempo beats filled “safety” or “chill out” rooms , keeping users relaxed and hydrated , in safe surroundings .

Anyways , pop in DJ Corey Grand’s “Café & Lounge” and vibe out—he hand chose nothing but the best , from your favorite artists , including Erykah Badu , Lauryn Hill , D’Angelo , Sade , Indie Arie , Maxwell , Prince , The Isley Brothers , and even Mayer Hawthorne .

What’s upper’s ?

Long time . No blog . Yeah yeah , I know . Well Im bringing you guys some stuff that’ll make up for lost time .

Have you guys heard of The Phoenix Foundation ? No ? Didn’t think so . The group is an indie rock band from New Zealand , comprised of six or so bandmates . They have been releasing CD’s since 2003 , after meeting in high school . Their music has made a few soundtracks – including “Boy” , also released across the sea , in New Zealand . “Boy” is about an 11 year old who gets left home alone by his grandmother , then finds that his father has reappeared from absence from the family , only to find out he’s there to find a bag of money he hid way back when .

So here’s a recent video from The Phoenix Foundation : “Buffalo” . Enjoy !

Hey Tom's + Jerry’s !

What’s the good word ? Hope you guys got a good kick off to the weekend . I have something new for you ! A while back , you Team SS fans asked for more mixtapes . So it is my promise to bring you more mixtapes . I would have posted this one on the site whether you asked or not *serious face* .

So look , I’m a big Kidz in the Hall fan , right ? The boys just have a unique sound and they’re very entertaining live . The crowd relay’s good energy back to Double O + Naledge – I like that . I’ve had the chance to see Kidz in the Hall live twice now – here in Cleveland for their “Land of Make Believe” release party at Peabody’s , and at Lollapalooza in Chicago . Both performances were dope . The Lolla set was particularly intriguing – the boys brought a varied band , I guess you could call it , to spruce up the music . Of course Double O was banging on his drums , hopping around elatedly on stage . The boys brought a supersoaker with them + Naledge even went crowd surfing .

Have you guys been paying attention to Med ? You’d know Medaphor from his appearance on Madvillian’s ‘Raid’ and Madlib’s ‘Shades of Blue’ . I guess Stones Throw has been pushing his album since 2005 , but its still not out !! Of course there’s going to be production from Madlib , Oh No , Dilla , and even outside the Stones Throw family , comes Just Blaze !

You have no idea how much I wanted to attend this ! Me + DJ Corey Grand had a big surprise for you SS Readers , but unfortunately plans fell through the cracks . NorthCoast Music Festival was held Labor Day weekend in Chicago + none other but my faves were there : Jay Electronica , Lupe , Flying Lotus , Little Dragon , Mayer Hawthorne , Phantogram + more . One of my college girlfriends got married so I attended a wedding . Big time bummer . Well looking through clips and vids and reviews and such from the festival , I came across this one – onstage coverage of FlyLo performing .

But you know who else is back ? WEEZER ! Earlier this week , MTV premiered Weezer’s new video for their first single , “Memories” off of their new album ‘Hurley’ set to release this Tuesday , the 14th .

‘Jackass 3D’ is also coming out soon , and the band + cast collabed for a video full of clips from the movie . The song reminds me of Summer’s ending .

Team SS is introducing you the first installment of The Varsity Squad’s bi-monthly The V-Side Podcast . DJ K-Nyce + DJ Corey Grand collab , bringing you Episode 1 , inspired by Cipha Sounds x Complex Magazine’s “The 75 Greatest Tunnel Bangers” .

Tunnel Bangers . Once upon a time , Peter Gatien , owner of NYC club Tunnel , created “Mecca”--a Sunday night party in NYC . On Sunday nights in the late 1990’s , Funkmaster Flex would DJ the after-midnight set , where he was responsible for spinning the illest in hip hop , soon to be referred to as Tunnel Banger’s . So what does a Tunnel Banger sound like ? Its confrontational , aggressive record , and mostly belligerent in its lyrical delivery . Tunnel Banger’s threw the crowd into a tizzy as Busta Rhymes , LL Cool J , Cam’Ron , Puff Daddy , Jadakiss , Ja_Rule , Mobb Deep , N.O.R.E and more cued play . DJ Corey Grand + DJ K-Nyce give you a good example of what it was like .

Discussion Time ! While working out today , The View was on the TV at the gym . I wasn't listening to it , but I read the captions , and the discussion grabbed my attention . Watch what The View cast + Elizabeth's husband have to say about Women + Men being best friends .

So what do you think ? Can a male + a female be best friends ? I've struggled with this in the past . You're supposed to marry who is your best friend . But what happens if a romantic relationship doesnt click with the person who was once your best friend ? Were they ever really your friend ? I'm Goose Egg for Two on this one . What do you guys think ?

MC Sidenote : I was trying my hardest to find Sherri's commentary on the subject , but there's no videos that captured it :/ .

Hi Mickeys + Minnies ! Time for Video of the Week !

After raging over the video + song for "Go Do" for the last few months , I'm happy Jonsi decided to release another video for "Animal Arithmetic" off the 'Go' album . I love the close-ups of faces + instruments , and the slow-mo of dancing , fireworks + jumping confetti .

Want to know more about Jonsi ? Well , he plays the guitar + he's the master of the falsetto vocals for Sigur Ros , a rock band from Iceland . Jonsi is also half of art book writers + music duo Jonsi + Alex -- Alex who is his boyfriend (yes Jonsi is openly gay) . Two random Jonsi facts : He is blind in one eye and a vegan who eats only raw foods . Cool huh ?

So I already hit you with the PB Wolf set – photos + review . Guess who’s next ? THE COOL KIDS !

The Cool Kids regrettably were not officially on the Lolla lineup this year , but PB Wolf pulled some strings and presented the duo for a surprise performance at the end of his set . They performed “Freak City” + another track or two .

Here’s a glimpse of the atmosphere from a vid I found on the Tube named You– obviously from way back , far out in the cut . I was MUCH closer .

Creeped around the other side of the stage , + I met Mikey after the show !
