Historically speaking:

While there were Thanksgiving observances in America both before and after Washington's proclamation, this represents the first to be so designated by the new national government.

After their first harvest, the colonists of the Plymouth Plantation held a celebration of food and feasting in the fall of 1621. Indian chiefs Massassoit, Squanto and Samoset joined in the celebration with ninety of their men in the three-day event.

The first recorded Thanksgiving observance was held on June 29, 1671 at Charlestown, Massachusetts by proclamation of the town's governing council.

During the 1700s, it was common practice for individual colonies to observe days of thanksgiving throughout each year. A Thanksgiving Day two hundred years ago was a day set aside for prayer and fasting, not a day marked by plentiful food and drink as is today's custom. Later in the 18th century each of the states periodically would designate a day of thanksgiving in honor of a military victory, an adoption of a state constitution or an exceptionally bountiful crop.

Consider the blessings we enjoy in this country, despite the problems that we are experiencing. May we all continue to work to preserve liberty and freedom so that our Republic and it's people can prosper through life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. My thoughts and prayers are to all serving our country in the military who are unable to be with their families this season, and my hope is that they will all be kept out of harm's way and that they will return home soon.

I hope that each and everyone of you will also be protected from the financial turmoil which now plagues our nation and that if you are touched by unemployment, financial hardship, and other difficult life lessons, that you weather it and emerge from it stronger. I pray that everyone can take proper measures to protect their health and their assets in these difficult times. We should take some time at Thanksgiving to take stock of that which is good and positive in our lives as well as that which needs to be attended to or changed.

Please try to remember that really the most important thing is our family and friends and the caring and love that we give and receive. If we don't have anything else, we have each other.
Let's take the time to celebrate not so much what we have in "stuff", but the strength and quality of our relationships with one another, and to thank whatever higher power that each of us may believe in, for all the goodness that we individually enjoy in our life.

Global Warming Fraud - A Really Inconvenient Truth

Well it looks like the Climate Change Cat (at least , the anthropogenic global warming, AGW, theory) is really out of the bag: and just in time for the Copenhagen Summit.

Here's a great article about the fraud perpetrated on everyone in order to line certain people's pockets.

Russian computer hackers have published emails and source code from the UN-affiliated Climate Research Unit showing profound corruption, fraud, and criminal activity. What's really behind the Copenhagen treaty?

Recently, Russian hackers published over 160mb of scientific emails and source code taken from the primary 'climate research unit' -- the University of East Anglia, which is the center of UN/IPCC-promoted global warming alarmism. What the emails and data prove is shocking, and may represent the greatest scandal in the history of science...

Here is a small sample of the underlying political agenda: Billions in new taxes, International regulatory control under the UN, Goldman Sachs/CCX carbon trading, Obliteration of national sovereignty, extreme forced austerity and reduction of the standard of living, deindustrialization of the First World countries, and implementation of Orwellian state policies for the purposes of "carbon tracking". The science does not matter -- the politics does.

In the emails, these UN-funded scientists talk about deleting data under FOIA request, faking data for journals such as Nature, conspiring to keep opposing science out of peer-reviewed journals (which they controlled the editorial boards), using "tricks" to "hide the cooling [period]" etc.

A picture emerges of big science funded to the tune of billions of dollars for the purposes of an underlying international political agenda. The degree of collusion between big media, the UN, and corrupted scientists involved in frank criminal activity is deeply disturbing. As I have detailed before, the purpose here is a political one. Global warming, or now abstractly identified as 'climate change', has been chosen by international banks and think tanks as the method of induction of vast political and social engineering never before seen in the history of the world.

Where is the outrage?
Why is this not front page news on every newspaper worldwide?
Instead, we see media sources running damage control stories!
(And they wonder why newspaper revenues are down?? Who flippin' believes what they write anymore?)

The disgrace is that:
-So-called "scientists" have perpetrated a huge lie for political and financial gain
-Portions of the scientific community have been silenced.
-Public policy has been initiated that is costing the taxpayer billions!

Thank goodness there are scientists, and others, who insisted on fact and worked to expose the truth.

More Economic News - Truck Tonnage Declines

The American Trucking Association Truck Tonnage Index Dipped 0.2 Percent in October following a 0.3 percent contraction in September. In September, the index was down 7.3 percent from a year earlier.

ATA Chief Economist Bob Costello said that the latest reading reflects an economic recovery that is still trying to gain balance, although it is on more solid ground than a year ago. “Repeating what I said last month, the trucking industry should not be alarmed by the small decreases in September and October...

“Since consumer spending and manufacturing are not surging, trucking shouldn’t expect robust growth either. However, both retail sales and manufacturing output are exhibiting mild upward trend lines, which is the path I expect truck freight to take.”

So, the ATA pretty much states that all is well, and the industry is just having its ups and downs.. but in any case, trucking serves as a barometer of the U.S. economy, representing nearly 69 percent of tonnage carried by all modes of domestic freight transportation, including manufactured and retail goods. There have been many trucking company failures and the freight for those companies are just being picked up by others.

Just thought I'd share... trucking IS an important part of our economy.

CT Unemployment Jumps to 8.8%

The Courant reported today that the CT State Department of Labor reported CT's October unemployment numbers up 8.8% from September's number of 8.4%. (more here)

Septembers job loss total was 6,200, and for the 12 months ending in October, the state has lost 71,100 jobs.

Things may not improve anytime soon. Aetna said yesterday it is now eliminating 160 Connecticut jobs and will lay off more by March.

Nationally, the unemployment rate was 10.2 percent in October. Of the 15.7 million Americans who are currently jobless, nearly 36 percent, or 5.6 million, have been unemployed for six months or more.

With an unemployment rate of 8.8 percent, Connecticut now has the dubious distinction of being classified by the federal government among the "high unemployment states."

That makes the state's jobless workers eligible to receive up to 93 weeks of unemployment benefits, under an extension approved by Congress earlier this month.

If the jobless rate averages 8.5 percent over three months, the extension provides an additional six weeks of benefits for a total of 99 weeks -- the current three-month average is about 8.4 percent, said Salvatore DiPillo, the state's labor statistics supervisor.

Town Will Photograph Every Vehicle Entering And Leaving

The Tiburon Town Council (a northern suburb of San Francisco) voted on Wednesday by 4 to 0 to install cameras to photograph every single car that enters or leaves in order to "make the community safer". Funny thing is that the town doesn't enjoy high crime figures. The idea is to photograph the license plates of every car that travels Tiburon's roads and compare the information with the police's list of the stolen and suspicious vehicles.

It is on a peninsula, from which there are only two roads. Luckily for them, it won't be too costly to install a few cameras.

One might ask: Don't people have the right to move around WITHOUT being monitored by the government at all times?

Probably not.

I found this over at the AOCS Website and thought that I'd share it with you.

Bartering is a medium in which goods or services are directly exchanged for other goods and/or services without a common unit of exchange (i.e. without the use of money).

It's interesting to me that there are many barter networks set up. Some have been around for quite awhile. People buy what they need and sell what they want without using Federal Reserve Notes (which are becoming increasingly worth less in value).
So here is a sampling of what's out there:

Barter usually replaces money as the method of exchange in times of monetary crisis, when the currency is unstable and devalued by hyperinflation.

700 Sent Off To Iraq From CT

Hartford (AP) - Two units of the Connecticut Army National Guard are sending 700 soldiers to the Middle East in the largest single deployment of Connecticut guard members since the Korean War.

A send-off ceremony is being held at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford on Sunday afternoon. Gov. M. Jodi Rell is scheduled to attend.

Rell's office says the 102nd Infantry will help train Afghanistan's Army, police and border police forces. Its units are located in Norwalk, Manchester, New Britain, Branford and Southington.

The departing troops also include members of the 250th Engineer Company of New London. Their job will be to ensure safe routes for troops on the move in Iraq.

Wait... wasn't Obama supposed to bring troops home and end the war?

In a proper cultural meaning that gesture would have been simultaneously returned.
It wasn't.
And for men, the hands are at the sides.
This bow wasn't even executed properly in accordance with Japanese custom.

IRS And Alleged 5th Amendment Violations - Was The 16th Amendment Really Ever Ratified?

Apparently, the Federal government sued William J. Benson to censor and punish his speech disclosing a major government fraud with respect to the federal income tax. Even as the Fifth Amendment protects our right to due process of law and prohibits the government from denying a person charged with illegal conduct the ability to defend himself, the government has refused to hear Benson's evidence proving government fraud!

Meanwhile, the Federal Judiciary refuses to enforce the Constitution!

The authority of the federal government to collect its income tax depends upon the 16th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, the federal income tax amendment, which was allegedly ratified in 1913. After a year of extensive research, Bill Benson discovered that the 16th Amendment was not ratified by the required 3/4 of the states, but nevertheless Secretary of State Philander Knox fraudulently announced ratification.

The ongoing litigation in U.S. v Benson is a fight for all of us ... and now includes an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.

In 1984, William J. Benson traveled to the capitols of all forty-eight states. There he obtained official, certified, copies of each State's legislative journals pertaining to the State's activities in ratifying, or not ratifying, the proposed 16th Amendment. Benson also traveled to Washington, D.C. and obtained from the United States National Archives, certified copies of the official documents pertaining to the proposed 16th Amendment.

The legislative journals conclusively establish, that despite not having the power to do so, several States intentionally modified the language of the proposed amendment. Having done so, the States violated Article V of the United States Constitution, and their votes cannot be counted.

Benson discovered other discrepancies too. He wrote and published a book on what he discovered, The Law That Never Was, Vols 1 and 2, available on his web site at www.TheLawThatNeverWas.com . The 17,000 official, certified, documents conclusively show that less than the constitutionally required thirty-six States voted to ratify the proposed Sixteenth Amendment.

Without a validly ratified Sixteenth Amendment, the federal income tax is unconstitutional. Bill accused the government of a massive fraud and cover-up and urged the American people to exercise their rights under the First Amendment to petition the government to correct this fraud.

In 2004, the government filed a lawsuit against Bill Benson. That lawsuit alleged Bill was falsely telling people the 16th Amendment was not ratified. The government asked the United States District Court in Chicago to issue an order preventing Bill from telling people what he found and preventing him from selling the supporting information through the Internet. The lawsuit also asked for the names and addresses of everyone who obtained Bill's information.

Bill attempted to defend against the allegations that he was lying by filing with the Court the evidence which proves he is telling the truth. The government, being wholly unable to refute the fact that the documents prove Bill is telling the truth, instead asked the Court to strike Bill's evidence from the court record.

The Court struck Bill's evidence from the record, then ruled that Bill had provided no evidence to refute the government's allegations that his statements were false. The Court then issued an injunction making it illegal for Bill to tell the people what he had discovered.

Bill then filed an appeal with the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Bill argued that when the District Court refused to look at and consider his evidence, he was denied fundamental due process of law. The Fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution mandates the government give a defendant, charged with violating the law, a fair hearing in which the Court must consider the defendant's evidence.

The Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, just like the government attorneys, refused to address this issue.

The 4 states listed below are among the 38 states that Philander Knox claimed ratification from.

* The Kentucky Senate voted upon the resolution, but rejected it by a vote of 9 in favor and 22 opposed.
* The Oklahoma Senate amended the language of the 16th Amendment to have a precisely opposite meaning.
* The California legislative assembly never recorded any vote upon any proposal to adopt the amendment proposed by Congress.
* The State of Minnesota sent nothing to the Secretary of State in Washington.

The Founders understood this, which is exactly why they made the oath to the Constitution, not to any man or office, and why they put the oath requirement right in the Constitution itself.
