The Truth About POOP!!!

I don't know about yall, but me, I don't like poop. I don't like cleaning it and I don't like smelling it. But, as I am a mother to a 3 month old, I must unfortunately DEAL with it. Poop is a regular part of my day (will be for quite some time) and me being a cloth diapering mommy makes many people wrongly assume that it takes up much more of my day than it actually does.

Really people, in the three months that I have been cloth diapering my imp I have never......

found poop in my washing machine
found poop on my clothes from being washed in that very same washing machine
scrubbed a poopy diaper clean by hand

In fact compared to what I have heard from my friends who use disposables, I have had to touch poop far less than any of them. I have not dealt with an explosion because, even though the truth may hurt some of yall, cloth diapers do a much better job of holding the poop captive than their plastic based counterparts.

Really its all in how the diapers are made. The majority of cloth diapers, unlike disposables, have elastic in the legs AND waist that makes for a tight seal and therefore no leaks. Yes their are the occasional leaks, but if you take the necessary precautions when placing the diaper on the child those are few and far between as well.

Fluff Storage

As a new mommy I have learned that some type of organization is key. Personally I am a tidy organizer, others I know are messy organizers. Either way ORGANIZATION is key. This is especially true when it comes to cloth diaper storage. In my home diapers are located in three places:

A hanging Diaper Caddy: Pocket Diapers
Top bedside drawer: Prefolds and Covers
On the top of my bedside table: Double Stuffed Pockets, All-in-Ones, and Fuzzibunz

I store my Pocket Diapers in a hanging Diaper Caddy because they make up the majority of my stash and are the ones most frequently used in the day time. On the other hand I rarely use my Prefolds and Covers so their location in the top dresser drawer keeps them out of the way yet still easily accessible. The last location is for my preferred night time diapers where they are close at hand for those groggy changes.

To go even further, in the hanging Diaper Caddy my diapers are separated by minky pockets and non-minky pockets. I did this once I realized that my minky diapers have a lower absorbency rate than my non-minky diapers. For this reason I much rather use them during the Little Miss's non napping times.

No matter how you choose to store your diapers, always remember that the quicker the change the happier the baby, Cheers!!!

A Fluff-full Learning Experience!!!!

Following my eye opening to the option of cloth diapering I began researching in earnest. I would love to say that I found immediate answers in cloth diapering but that would be a total lie. You see cloth diapering for a beginner is SO VERY CONFUSING. Everywhere I looked I was reading words that made no kind of sense. I mean, What is and All-in-one? How about a pre-fold? Or maybe you might know what a Hybrid is? These terms threw me for a major loop and it took me a bit a time and whole lot of YouTubing to realize what many of them were. Well to begin with:

Prefold Diaper: These are the least expensive type of cloth diapers and the ones that most people think of when they think of cloth diapers. With prefolds you must use either pins or a Snappi to fasten them closed. They must also be covered by a waterproof cover.
All-in-One: These are much higher in price than prefolds but they are also much easier to use. All-in-One's require no covers or pins. They are exactly what their names states, all in one. Sewed into one diaper is a outer water proof PUL layer, a stuffer lies within which absorbs, and against the babes skin is usually micro fleece or cotton. These are pretty much disposables that you don't throw away but wash and re-use.
Pockets: Pocket diapers are close in resemblance to All-in-Ones except instead of having a sewed in stuffer there is a pocket in between the sewed together outer water proof layer and inner micro fleece layer. These pockets can be stuffed with any absorbent material including prefolds and microfiber.

A Fluffy Introduction!!!!

My Fluff Journey began nearly a year ago when I learned I was expecting my dear one Leona Ree. You see I am a planner. I plan months ahead for every and anything. So of course the arrival of my firstborn produced much planning on my part. There was the obvious things to plan for: cribs, clothes, and nurseries AND the not so obvious things to plan for: food and diapers. I quickly decided that I would deal with the crib in a few months time and the nursery then as well. Clothes I started stocking immediately and food would't be much of an issue until later since I was going to nurse (the benefits are too hard to ignore). It was when I came to the diapers that problems began.

The prices of disposable diapers astounded me, they were practically over milking the cow. I immediately began looking for the cheapest quality diapers available. Unfortunately for disposable diaper sellers everywhere, before I could even get deep into my search for those mythical cheap quality diapers, I ran astray of a picture of a baby in a cloth diaper. CLOTH DIAPERS.... that was a word I didn't see myself ever associating with yet the picture I saw didn't beckon to me as a cloth diaper. In fact... it looked more like a fashionable diaper cover. I mean the thing had designs and buttons and looked oh so fluffy on the little ones rump. Really all I could think was that if this was what a cloth Diaper was then maybe my options weren't so limited.
