Sometimes it is so hard to find my artistic inspiration when I feel so tied up to this busy life of creating, selling and teaching. It is difficult to know if having a weekly venue to sell my work is a blessing or a curse. The crazy month of November has forced me into a hiatus from showing in Palm Springs. During this hiatus I have found so much freedom to create. There is no pressure to get enough pieces done so that I have lots to display, no special orders, and no repairs. Along with that there comes an excitement to create and time to actually put my designs from sketches to real sparkly pieces of jewelry. Of course I will be back to my weekly spot in Palm Spring at the beginning of December, but for now I will enjoy the creative freedom and excitment for what I love to do...create!

Grants for the arts!

As many know I have another job teaching performing arts at a Middle School in Temecula CA. I have been blessed to have this job with all the cuts to arts programs in the public schools. This year our program faced cuts and we are not able to offer some of the programs that we have in the past. These cuts have led me to seek out additional funding from corporate America. Last night I had a dream with giant pinwheels, The pinwheels transformed from bright colored giant works of art on a hillside to tiny copper wheels on a chain. REALLY! I woke up and had to create a fabulous little pinwheel pendant. It took 3 hours to make and I only had to scrap one of the original trial pieces. I wore it all day today and found that people were struck by the beauty and simplicity of it's design. It moves and I found myself spinning it everywhere I traveled today. SO..,I went to Michael's after work today and bought the supplies to teach my 5th grade girls how to make these marvelous pendants. I have it down to a 20 minute process now and can't wait to teach the girls . It all starts with a dream!

I recently purchased a lot of gemstones. The group was sold as a group and no description other than "fine Cut Gemstones" I took my chances for $25.00. It is like Christmas for me to open things like this, and I find that sometimes the best designs come from items that have been thrown in my lap and I just have to make them work. So the box came in the mail and to my surprise there were really amazing gemstones. I have made my first of many creations from the stones. I love the way this came out and I am not sure I will be able to part with this one....

I sat in the aisle at barnes and noble last night on the floor in front of the craft books. I thumbed through at least 40 books looking for my inspiration. The price of silver has sent me in search of new and creative ways to make things I am proud to put out there for sale and that my customer can still afford. I didn't really find much in those books and went home to sit in front of my tray of copper. I did find some fun in that tray. We shall see how it all turns out...

Am I the only one? I often ask myself this question. I find myself working endlessly at all the jobs that I have. So many days I think I can't take another minute! Yet, I have constant ideas running through this crazy head! Though I try to ignore and suppress the flood of new ideas some are too exciting for me to contain...SUMMER Rock and art camp! OF COURSE! Really? A new idea?
So let me take inventory- I work full time teaching and directing the visual and performing arts for a charter school, I am on a committee planning the start of a home school program for the school where I teach, I am the developer and director of the Visual and performing arts dept. at the school and this time of year we have 4 plays in k-5 grades and a middle school showcase with 10 acts, I am the only person to stage and choreograph at the school so I have to be involved and help my poor husband who teaches and develops all the music and acting for the younger grades, I am in charge of the after school enrichment program, I am faced with looking for fundraising options in a budget crisis and learning to write grants, I have three boys at two different schools, and in my spare time I design create and market my jewelry. So naturally I have to start the summer rock and art program!
I think if I met the girl who is living the life as described above I might first call her a liar, because all of those jobs are not possible for one person to do. If I did believe her I might have to question her sanity, because clearly she doesn't sleep...EVER!
I know that there are other people who do as much as I do, and maybe more. I must ask... where is the group therapy meeting? We need a group! Is there a 12 steps program that I can fit into my day? Maybe it can be a app for my droid that I can have read aloud while I plan, create and conquer! Yep, I need to create that app....oh wait. Another project? AHHHHH!

It has been some time since I have shared my work with those of you that do not live near. I have been busy creating and my business has grown an incredible amount this year! I am amazed by the amount of fingerprints that I have taken and designs that have come from them. I have really enjoyed the custom orders and very special creations that I have created with my customers. My business is continuing to grow in my home town of Temecula and I feel so lucky and blessed to have found my place in Palm Springs. I have met people from all over the

world and to this day I receive orders from Canada, Russia, and Germany to name a few.

My latest and most fun venture is the monthly open house that I hold at Cafe Bravo in Temecula. We have a collection of artists and live music. The first month included my work, painters Nathan Maffin, and Corinne Cortinas, and a fun collection of items from Geranium gem. The live music was played by The Sean Sheldrake duet, with Alan Morganstern on upright bass. It was a fantastic time and busy! This month I will have a fabric and clothing designer, as well as a few photographers. If you are near Temecula please come and see the show, December 14th.

Well- I have decided to have my own art show! The past few weeks in Palm Springs have been terrible! Sorry Martha! The last time I pulled into town and the creepiest looking storm was just sitting over the desert. I hesitantly unloaded my car to discover that I forgot my lights.... No lights...No show! After 4 years one might think I could remember these things.

I found out the next day that everyone packed up and went home because it started raining. IN PALM SPRINGS! STRANGE!

My Labor Day

On this fantastic Labor Day my husband has taken our boys to the movies and I have been researching web design, planning my week, cleaning, and most exciting of all...designing jewelry! Designing has taken a back seat to all my other new projects, so it is very exciting to get back to it! I have also discovered how to develop an RSS feed to this blog. WOW! It was not a simple task, but I did it. Join my new feed by e-mail. There is a button to click and it is done! -it can't be more simple

New adventure

Well, I am off on another new adventure. I am homeschooling my middle son with learning disabilities. He has auditory processing, and visual processing disorders. He also has aspergers syndrome. It is going to be an interesting time in our life, and still I am looking forward to it. It will be nice to spend time with him. He is the middle child, and as such, he receives less attention than the 4 year old, and the 7th grader (first born). Poor middle children. The challenge will be in scheduling. I definitely have too many jobs! I will now be dividing my time between homeschooling, my jewelry business, teaching 2 days a week, and starting an after school program for student enrichment. Seriously! I am a very energetic girl, but really!
Well, the fact is that if anything has to go it will be the teaching at the elementary school. I hope that it will all work together. We will see. Keep you posted!

my arrowhead weekend

Fun, Fun, Fun!!! Arrowhead was a great time! My booth was next to a couple of great artists that I know from my Palm Springs show. It was a party! Wine was flowing and the lake was beautiful. I also made a new friend who also makes fantastic jewelry. Elise Kost. What a wonderful soul. We did some trading of products and I obtained the most beautiful Lapis ever!
Now I am preparing for the next Palm Springs Thursday. It was 114 degrees last week. AAAHHH! I will just suck it up and go on. I always make it through even if I think I might die.

My one of a kind baubles....preview of Arrowhead

Well here they are!
These are my, one of a kind-new and fresh-pieces -
This is part of the collection that I am taking to Lake Arrowhead. I have had a great time creating them. This was my first week of vacation from teaching. It has been so great to have some time to really create. Each of these pieces have been baubles, bits, and pieces in separate baggies for months. I attached their design sketches to them and they sat. It was a huge weight off of my shoulders to finally see the designs come to life.
