Take a Breath and Run!

Life without all those products in your hair, the best thing that ever happened to your hair? Or a living hair-hell? That's what I'm going to try and find out over the next few weeks. You're welcome to come along on this journey if you'd like!

I first heard about "Going-Shampoo-Less" a few years ago from my dad, it sounded interesting and a great idea for me since I spent some much time on my hair in the mornings. So I decided to give it a try. I made it a week and threw in the towel. I couldn't take it! My hair a greasy heavy and smelly! I knew that it takes a few weeks for your hair to normalize and become this beautiful, wonderful hair everyone promised it would be, but I couldn't wait! I was also in College at the time and I just couldn't get past the thoughts of everyone in school looking at me and pointed at my greasy hair! So I gave up.

I had nothing more to do with GSL till about a year ago when I decided that if I wasn't going to go cold-turkey I would at least try and get out of the habit of shampooing my hair every day. So I worked my way back from once a-day to every-other-day. That turned out to be great for me! It didn't take my hair long to fall into the routine of fewer shampoos and I was happy!

I was perfectly content to go with this routine for the rest of my life, until on day a few weeks ago my dad starting talking about GSL again! He told me I should start again, but this time I should stick with it. Almost everyone in my family has already taken the plunge and are happy they did. Even Eli went Shampoo-less well over a year ago and he has been happy with his hair.

So after we got home from our 4th of July weekend in Wisconsin I decided to take the plunge. Since I'm threw with school, and I'm not working I figured now would be the best time. The fewer people saw my hair the better!

So far things have been going just fine. My hair doesn't "look" greasy, but on the other hand it feels greasy and I don't like that. But everyone has told me to stick with it and I'll be glad I did. So I'm going to stick it out!

Today marks the date four years ago today that Eli and I decided to be together and we've never looked back! I planned a fun day in Stillwater, starting with a picnic by the river and then antiquing and walking around downtown. It was great, I couldn't have asked for a better day! The sun was out and shinning down on us as if to say, "I'm glad you two are together! Have a wonderful day on me!" We took the sun up on his offer and had a wonderful day!

I found tons of wonderful vintage dresses that I would have killed to own! There were at least three I could have owned. The first one (Pictured) I loved but it was beyond repair so I sadly had to say goodbye. The second dress (Pictured) was just lovely! But it didn't have a price tag, :( so I didn't get it I should have asked how much it was, I'm really wishing I had right now. The third dress (Not Pictured) was so beautiful! It was a white 50s flowered sundress! I don't know why I didn't get it! Or why I didn't take a picture. The last dress that's pictured was just a really fun wedding dress they had!

I love Stillwater's antique stores! I've never seen so many vintage clothing fines in one place before! For my anniversary present Eli bought me a vintage pearl necklace! I just love it! So elegant and vintage!

Today was a great day! I'm so happy I was able to spend it with my love! I really think he's the Cat's Meow!

Not quite so big adventure!

I've been waiting for today for weeks now! The day I finally re-dye my hair! I should have dyed it weeks ago. My hair had become lifeless and void of fun that one would expect with red hair. But since I have a big date coming up with my fella I decided I better hold off as long as I can so my hair will be at it's best for our Four Year Anniversary on Sunday!

I bought my dye over a week ago in preparation for theBig Day! I even scoured the stores in town, looking for that perfect Red Hair Color Shampoo to insure my hair was at it's best and brightest! Who knew it would take four stores to find it! Walmart didn't have it, even Target's shelves were surprisingly bare. I checked the grocery store in hopes that they would have it, but still no luck! Then I remembered I had read online that Walgreens might carry it. I ran in the store and straight to the shampooaisle. I almost didn't see it, nestled in between the "Brilliant Brunette" and "Sheer Blonde" shampoos. But there it was! "Finally!" I said out loud. I would have jumped up and down if a worker hadn't been stocking right next to me. "I've been looking for this all over town!" I said when she looked at me quizzically. She gave a little laugh and a looked that said, "Yeah, I don't really care." But I didn't care! I was just so happy. I walked to checkout and was helped by a guy with a curly mustache and who called me "Ma'am" and I skipped out to the car!

I love dying my hair! It makes me feel like a girl! All girls love to change their look and style right? At any rate I love it! I can't believe I waited this long to start dying my hair again! I did dye it a few times in the past but I never got such a great result as I have the last few times!

I had plans to finally dye my hair myself, but I chickened out. Thankfully mom was willing to help me. So I mixed the color and handed it off to mom and she went to work. within 10 minutes my hair was saturated with the purplish-red color. I set the timer and waited.

30 minutes later I rinsed the color out, applied the extra strong conditioner, that is considered to be heaven in a bottle. 5 minutes later I was rinsing it out and heading back upstairs to change into my super cute dress I got shopping the other day!

The saddest thing that can happen when you dye your hair, other then completely hating your new color, is feeling like a million bucks and you don't go anywhere! What's the point of looking hot if no one but your family see you? None! So even though I felt awesome with my nicely colored hair and new dress, I had no where to do. But such is life and we all learn to deal and get over life's little blunders, because there's always, tomorrow! (And Sunday!)

The Moment I knew...

Do you ever had that moment, that moment were everything just seems to fall into place and you just know, "This is how it was meant to be all along?" I had that moment more then once over the last 24 hours, and I've never felt so happy about a decision since I told my Fiancé "Yes" the night he proposed.

"All I want to do is make a vintage looking wedding dress, Mom!" I said yesterday morning as we walked past the satin and lace at JoAnn Fabrics. We stopped and I just had to admire how beautiful the lace and satin looked together. "Why don't you try on grandma's wedding dress today?" Mom said, "Hers is a lot like those fabrics."

I was so excited! I spent the rest of the morning wondering how it will look on me and if it would fit. Grandma is quite a bit shorter then I am. So not only did I worry about the length but I also worried about the sleeves. But I decided that both of those worried could be fixed!

Later that afternoon, after having a piece of homemade blueberry pie, I followed grandma downstairs to where she had her beautiful 1950s wedding dress tucked away. I pulled down the box that contained all kinds of treasures! My grandpa's blue suit he was married in, my grandma's going-away suit and most of all, her dress!

"Why don't you try on my going-away suit too." My grandma said as I pulled out her dress from the box. We carried them up the stairs and I went into the guest bedroom to finally try on the dress! I was so excited I was giddy! I stepped into the dress and I couldn't get it over my hips! "Oh Crap!" I thought. What was I going to do? I looked at the back of the dress and thankfully there was still a few buttons to undo. I quickly unbuttoned the last few buttons and it slipped on with ease. I put my arms into the sleeves and couldn't believe it! They were long enough! I reached behind and fastened a button right at my waist, it fit perfectly! And I looked down and it was almost the right length. I couldn't believe it!

I walked out into the living room and I was greeted by Ooo's and Aaaa's! We took a few pictures and talked about how we could adjust the dress length and cleaning. After a while I went back into the room to try on the going-away suit. The skirt, was perfect. The jacket, was almost perfect, the only thing missing was about two inches in the sleeves. Later after mom and grandma had a chance to see me in the suit, grandma shows me that the sleeves are not a problem! In fact they had always been long enough, she had just rolled up the sleeves to fit her.

Then I heard her say the words I wasn't expecting, "If you want that suit you can have it." I couldn't believe it! "Grandma are you sure?" "If you want it," she said, "You can have it." I was so excited to have a real vintage wool blue suit that fit me perfectly! She also told me if I wanted it I could take the wedding dress and alter it how I want! I was so excited! But now I had a problem, I had two wedding dress to choose from. And I loved them both!

I spent the night off and on looking at the pictures of the dress trying to make up my mind! There was something so wonderful about both I just couldn't decide! I knew for one thing that I need a puffy slip to go under grandma's dress since she didn't have the one she had anymore.

This morning mom and I had some things to do around town. I said we should stop at the thrift store and see if they had a slip. I told mom that if they had one and it was my size I was going to get it. We walked in the door and right away I looked at the wall that holds the horrible 90s wedding dress, but there was no slip. My heart fell a little. I knew it was a long shot but I thought for sure it would be there, I had seen them there before more then once. Sadly I didn't see one so I walked over to my mom and the racks of sale clothes.

I was looking through the clothes trying to find something to make this trip worthwhile when I glanced over at the wedding wall and there hiding behind a wedding dress and a flower girls dress was, The Slip! I ran over and grabbed it off the wall. I looked at the price tag, $6! I held it up and it looked like the right size! I was so excited! "Look mom!" I said running over, "I found it!" "Well try it on!" She said, so I ran to the changing room. It fit, as if it was made for me! Standing there looking at myself in the mirror wearing the slip that makes me feel like I just stepped into Gone With The Wind in the 1860s, I had that "moment"!

Almost as soon as we got home I just had to try the slip and dress together! Words can not express how wonderful I felt as I looked at myself in the mirror, I felt beautiful and happy! For some reason everyone seems to think that when you wear your wedding dress you should feel like a princess, in the back of my mind I always thought that was a little silly. But standing there I thought to myself, "I feel like a princess in this dress!"

But I still didn't know what dress to wear! On one hand, I have the dress I bought over a year ago off of Ebay, that I love! It's beautiful, it's simple, and it's a dress I can see myself wearing! And on the other I have grandma's dress, elegant, lacy, and full of frills! Also I dress I can see myself wearing!

As if mom could read my mind she said, "I think you should wear this one!" And with that I had decided! All I needed was someone to tell me, "It's OK that you're not going to wear the one you bought." I was so happy! And just like that I had yet another "Moment"!

What a wonderful two days! Who knew that in just a matter of hours I would change the most important feature of the wedding to the bride, the dress! But I'm so happy and excited and filled with a new excitement for our future wedding that I pray will come soon! And I now know, this is how it was meant to be all along!

Here we go again!

So why again after all this time are you getting back into the blogging world, you ask? Well it's simple and only takes mere moments to explain! But I'm not going to take the easy way out, oh no! I think it would be fun to go the long way around! Oh sure, it would be a lot easier and quicker to just point the finger at Abby and say "She Made Me Do It!" But where's the fun in that?

It all started (like most stories do if they know what's good for them) four years ago, with a guy by the name of Eli. We met, we became friends, and we started dating. Of course once you start dating it's only natural that you meet "The Family" Don, Barb, Josiah, Micah, Joy, and Abby. I quickly learned that this was a family that I could enjoy, that I was going to love spending time with! Especially, Abby. Although she was younger then me and had some poor taste in music we quickly became friends! And after a year or two I was hanging out with Abby almost as much as I was with Eli!

We, like most girls, enjoy doing all kinds of things together! Shopping, gossiping, listening to music, and so on. So it was no surprise that when one of us decided to try something new the other wasn't far behind (Except for Justin Bieber, I would rather eat a spider then like his music) Twitter, DailyBooth, hot curlers, He is We, Knitting, Apple Computers, hair products!

So tonight when Abby wrote to me, all excited about how she was going to "Start Blogging" I knew it was just a matter of time before I would have to bring my old blog out of retirement. It was old and sad and none to pleased that I had thrown it by the wayside to collect dust. But I pulled it out, shook off the dust and gave it a new makeover, and so here I am!

And here we are back at the beginning, back where I can point the finger of blame squarely at Abby and say "She Made Me Do it!"

But really, I love that girl dearly, and I'm so thankful that I have a sister as fun, sweet and crazy as her!

Well I have recently found a new band through SunShine. They are called "FlyLeaf" When I first hear them I couldn't understand a word they were saying because they are so hard rock. Barb (Eli's mom) and I had fun trying to recognize words that the lead singer was saying. It was fun. I did kind of like them but after SunShine I didn't really think much more about them. Till about a month ago when I was able to get their EP off of a friends computer and after that I was hooked! After a while I went out looking for their CD, and lets just say I bought their CD first, heehee. But anyway, I'm really in love with them!

Once I got into the music, I really got interested in their background, so I looked them up and found out about the lead singers and it was very interesting. Knowing her background really makes the songs really feel so much more meaningful. She writes all the songs along with the other members of the band and it's just cool to know that almost all the songs have some meaning to them and are in someway taken from her and the other members lives.

The lead singer, Lacey Mosley, has a very moving background story and I really encourage you to read it, you can HERE. Even when she's not singing about something 100% Christian you can just tell how much she loves God and it's just really cool. One thing I really like about her, is the way she uses her hands. You can really see it in the first video I posted below.

I want to end this blog with some of their music so you can see what I mean. Today's my last day of school this week! YAY Tomorrow no one has school and that's just fine by me. And tonight for the first time all semester I don't have to write a paper!!!!!!! I'm all done with my journals for my writing class now, all I have left is two essays and an in-class paper. So I'm way happy!

Last weekend I went home with Eli. It was really nice to be back, I haven't been to his house since JANUARY! And that's just too long. It was a really nice weekend. On Saturday Eli, Abby and I went to St. Cloud and met up with an old friends of Eli's from school who he hadn't seen in really long time. It was a lot of fun we went out to eat and then shopping! We went to Savers and both Eli and I got lots of cool things! He found everything he was looking for; jeans and shoes! I found some cute shoes too, only one pair I got turned out to be two DIFFERENT SIZES!!!!! I guess that's what happens when you don't try on both shoes. haha I also found a really cute skirt and a sweater and a shirt. I was looking for a little sweater to go with the new dress I made! (See below) but the only one I could find was too small, which was really sad because it would have been PERFECT!

Man I'm so bored right now! I'm at school and I have nothing to do! I'm in between classes right now . Normally I bring my computer on Wednesdays to help me pass the time. But stupid me thought I wasn't going to need it too day!

I have a test this afternoon. It's my last test for Photography. yay. I want to take it early like last time, but I don't know if I can. So I have nothing to do.

Well what do you know! I have time to write a blog!! I bet you all thought I'd forgotten about you! Well, I didn't!

Right now I'm sitting in a class room that I've been sitting in for over an hour waiting for my prof to show up and teach class. but he hasn't shown! You'd think that I'd be happy just sitting at a computer for hours. But nope, not this computer anyway. I hardly have any of my links and it's very boring just sitting here looking at the same three sites, just waiting for them to do something different, but they hardly ever do. And I hate it! I want my computer dang it!!!

I wish I knew if my other class was canceled, because it's the same prof too, because then I could just go home and go back to sleep. I had to get up at 6 this morning......you know what? Why don't I just tell you what a week of school is like for me!

I hope you all had a great New Years Eve and New Years! I know I did! We had another movie/game night! Everyone who was anyone was there! At 12 we stopped the movie and had some cider. Abby came too, and at 12 she went running out in the street! I have videos of the night and when I can, I'll upload them here. So if you are reading this and they're aren't any yet, just check back later!

I'm spending the week at Eli's house! Right now I'm sitting here on Eli's computer and Joy is sitting next to me playing! She's so cute! I've been sitting here for about an hour now and she hasn't stopped talking! It's so fun to just sit here and listen to her talk and play! Little kids don't need a lot to keep themselves happy!

Eli is at work, he's working every day this week. It's sad not having him here but he needs the money and I can spend some time with Abby, Joy and Barb.

I'm starting school on the 14th. I'm a little worried about it. 99% of my school life as been at home and I don't know what to expect. I ordered my books last week and some have come already! That's exciting! I just hope the rest makes it here on time! (And little side note: I'm all done with my NWC classes!!!! NO MORE!!! YAY)

Jennifer's Big Year!

Well, it’s been quite the year! My life has changed quite a bit! I know I haven’t been blogging as much as I use to and I’m sorry about that. I guess I’ve just been busy, more then I use to be. And when I did have time I was too lazy to write. But that was this year, a new year is coming that I hope will change all that.

The year started out great! I met some great new friends and actually got to have a social life! It was wonderful to have friends other then people from my family. We started getting together about once a month to watch movies and to just hang out! Among those friends was a guy who was destined to become my first and best friend outside of my family, Eli! (He was also destined to become the man I love!)

Ok, now what should I start with? How about school? Well, I took four classes from NWC this year: Algebra, Chemistry, Music, and History. Out of them my favorite I’d have to say was History and my least favorite was Chemistry. As for College itself, I’m starting Century in the spring. I’ll be studying Visual Communications. I’m really excited about it! The only thing is that I’ll have to go four days a week. That’ll suck but most of the classes are ones I want to take and are interested in so that’s good.

Things on the internet. For a very short time I was into video blogs. I had one or two that’s I’d watch all the past videos of in order and then by the time I was all caught up I kept up with them for a few weeks and then I just didn’t care anymore. And that ended my experience with video blogs; it was fun while it lasted!

I also got into online quizzes. I found out a lot of interesting stuff about myself! Like I’m only 44% girly, I’m a Plain Ole Cup of Joe, out of all the possible varieties I am Chocolate Chip Ice Cream! I also belong in Paris, how cool is that?

Over the summer I ended my, I think it was almost four years, long babysitting job. :( Do to “Different things” Josh and his family had to move and that left me without a steady source of income. It was pretty sad. I didn’t even get to really say goodbye….

On June 5th I started dating my best friend! After knowing each other for about six months Eli and I finally admitted that there is something between us. We’ve been together for almost seven months now and I’ve enjoyed every moment of it!

I tuned 19 this year! Now only seven more months of being a teenager! Then I’ll be 20! I’m so looking forward to that! Because that mean when I see kids acting stupid I can just shake my head, sigh and go, “Teenagers!” It’s going to be so much fun!!

I try Sushi for the first time…….

I have my wisdom teeth pulled, man how fun that was! I was a little worried they were going to try and steal my brain, but they didn’t!

I stared a web comic with Eli! You can look at it HERE.

I got my hair cut! ONCE and TWICE

Took the ACT. Didn’t like it too much. Too long. I didn’t have to worry too much about it (Even though I did) because I had already decided to go to a community college.

Made the long trip to Eli’s house a few times! Spent Thanksgiving there with his family! It was a great time; I stayed almost a whole week!

And that’s pretty much my year! I hope you liked reading about it! There are some other little things I’m sure that I missed or that were too private to share…. :) But I think I gave you enough, don’t you?

Sick, a week before Christmas....

That's right I have a cold. :( Not a very bad one so that's good. As I write this I'm laying in bed in my PJ's that I've been in all day! :) This morning my mom was like, "Take a break today." Sadly she meant from everything BUT school.

I have less then a week till the semester ends and I have to work hard to finish on time. Some how I think I'll be working just a little into break...

I have all my Christmas presents wrapped and under the tree! (All but one, darn thing was sold out when we went to get it.) So I'm all really for Christmas to start! Just 5 days to go! I'm so excited!

If you haven't heard or seen, I have a new blog for pictures I've taken! I'd love it if you'd go take a look and comment! I just love comments!

Also, I think I'm all done working on this template. What do you think? I got a little help from a graphic designer!
