Yet another investment....... :)

Today, I have just finished ordering my RT80ST IP 54" W/O FP 24V.

Hopefully it will arrive very soon since it will be shipped by airplane, and when it arrives there will be some rigging :) I hope to have it all ready to go well in time for the seatrout season starting in Mars and well in time for the deepseafishing I plan for in Mars/April. I am realy looking forward to testing it, and especially to try out the spotlock and ipilot system. Imagin the possibility to stay within 5m sircle when you are deepsea fishing:) :) and to move slowly ahead when flyfishing??? or spinn fishing??
Now it is time to look for some suitable batterys........ spending a lot of money, but hopefully this will be a great investment :)

Looking forward to saturday.... plan for some pontong flyfishing after seatrout........ Lets hope the weather turns out great :)

Fisketur med Lars i dag 20.11.11

Jeg sms et Lars i går kveld, da jeg så hvilket vær de meldte til i dag og foreslo en tur ut på havet for å lete opp fisk på dypet. Han var selvsagt mer enn klar og vi stakk til havs kl. 0800.
Vi hadde en liten tanke om at vi kanskje skulle klare å lyktes med å skaffe ham sin første blåkjeft.
Det viste seg å være tykk tåke ute i dag, men via kartplotteren fikk vi loset oss til hotspotten laaangt der ute. Vi stakk innom en grunne og lugget opp litt sei til agn....

Når vi mente vi hadde fått nok, stakk vi enda en bit videre ut...... Har taklet jeg opp med flygende øye mens Lars gutset på Blåkjeft med et noe mindre kroksett. Lars agnet m frossen makrell og jeg med fersk strimlet sei....

Men hva er dette?

Vi fikk noen brosmer og langer før jeg så landet denne:

Lars mistet først sin etterlengtede blåkjeft.......

Legg merke til at han nesten hoppet etter fisken, slik det seg hør og bør være når man endelig "lander" en ny art :)

Men heldigvis fikk han en ny sjanse og kom sterkt tilbake :) legg merke til at hoven denne gang er funnet frem og benyttes flittig :)

A short trip outside Mandal hunting....

Me and my brother Kåre decided to take a trip out, even though it was windy and promised some rain. We went out around 0700 and headed west since there has been some heavy wind and waves the last couples of days. This would have made it close to impossible to hunt from the regular spots..... as it turned out, the condition was not better west...... heavy old waves from south made it impossible to get ashore on the usual places...... We finally made it ashore and put up some decoys....

The morning started with several ducks comming by, but not in range..... we also had a visitor close by us severeal time, checking us out...... :)

We decided soon after this picture was taken, to go fishing for pollock instead....

We used a kylpesnøre and got several smaller ones that went back into the sea...... we kept 2 like this one and one mackrell.

Lets hope the wind and waves goes down until tomorrow..... maybe I can manage to get out and have som fishing action on my lighter rods.... :)

All in all a great day out at the sea, great thx to Kåre for the company :)

A small status report....

Im working home today, and are looking at the weatherforecast for this weekend, trying to decide what to do :) At the moment we are thinking of heading out once again hunting some ducks..... the season is from oct.-nov. so its not much time left, and particulary since its this time of year, it means much wind and heavy waves.

The last couple of months I have been investing heavy in some new fishing equipment, that I realy need to test out :) A new Stella 4000, a couple of light shimano aspire rods, a penn slammer, a shimano jigging rod, several new flyreels, woblers, jigging wobblers and so on.

This time of year I usualy target bigger pollocks that comes close to the mountains furthest out.... nothing like it when a big pollock attacks and runs on lighter equipment :) my biggest so far is 8.5 kg (not this year :)). Normal size this time of year, the bigger ones, tends to be around 4-5 kg. Nice fighters:)

But of course, if its no wind, then it will be deep sea fishing thats up :)

But the weatherconditions will decide, so one just have to wait and see :)

Btw, are thinking on investing in a bow mounted Minn Kota Riptide ST 80/i-Pilot, 24 volt system. Anyone that can recommend where to by this in US? any experience with it?? my boat are 19 feet (silver shark), 90 hk and weighs around 11-1200 kg on the water.... will this engine manage to hold it spot on and move it enough without to much struggle in a bit wind and current?

Went out around 7 together with Kåre, and headded straight out as far as possible :) A bit more wind today than promised......

All in all a nice day, and Kåre is satisfied with his first hunting day.... he got his licens this year :)

The only not so good thing today, was a copule other hunters that behaved quite stupid......

The wind picked up more and more during the day, and we decided to stop and go home around 15.

I went out this morning together with my brother Kåre, targeting some nice pollocks and seatrout.
It didnt turn quite our way regarding the conditions or action fram the seatrouts side....... We tried out drifting casting with blinks and jiggs.... Had several strikes but nothing that stayed one for more than a few seconds......

After a while casting with no landed fish, we decided to try out a" kylpe snøre". This is aprox 20 meter coppertread with a 1.5 m mono at the end, where a red bullmakk is tied on. This is an old fishing way on Sørlandet, and is far the most effective methode for pollock.

Using no rods, just helding it in the hand......

Notice the conditions......... the waves are starting to get quite big and lots of wind......

Kåre is on :) He had a lot of fun with several nice pollocks......... quite nice action when they strikes :)

Har hatt en knall sesong, møtt og fisket sammen med mange nye spennende mennesker og har fått en haug med fisk, Tror jeg har passert 50 totalt sett med god margin, hvorav de langt fleste ble satt pent tilbake.

Went up a bit early, laid down in the grass beside the river and fell asleep :) got wokened by some swedes that fished the sone before us...... they wondered if I wouldnt whant to start fishing .... :)

Went all the way without feeling any fish, just saw several good ones that showed themselves.... also a quite a lot of small ones.
On the 2. run, I just had around 10 cast and booom....... let the line go, lifted the rod and fish on...... After a good fight I landed a male salmon, coloured with quite a jaw. Since it was a good fiish, nice colour, I tried to let it go..... It took a while, it swam a meter, stopped there for a minute and moved slowely towards the deeper part..... a nice experience :) A beautiful fish:

Wakeup call set to 04.30 and I arrived at the river at aprox 05.45. There were noone else at the sone, and I had it all to my self :) Started with the shrimp, but no luck. Changed to a black one, and at the same spot as yesterday it was BOOOOMMM.... :) I let the loop go, liftet the rod and fish on :)

5.0 kg :) the mouth looks a bit strange, since I had to cut it a bit to loosen the fly and take its life... decided to keep it.

a nice one that I think I shall send to be smoked :)

All in all a good days fishing, with a early stop :)

There has ofcourse been some fishing action lately, we have had a trip to Flekkefjord and Lenefjorden trying for bass and a couple of trips out at the sea targeting pollock.

The trip for bass resultet in none such, but several macrell..... A nice day, with good company and we found several spots we whant to try some more later on....

A bit strange weather yesterday, but decided to take a trip for some pollock. Searches for them along these kind of mountains......

Tsting some rubber stuff :) worked quite well :)

I think I got around 5 on this one......

Tested a new one, that gave me the days biggest fish..... around 3 kg..... and a nice fight.....

This evening Im headding up in the river again........ lets hope there will be some action to tell about..... The last rumors is that there is much less fish in sone 2 and the place to be is sone 3........ Well see :)

Went up together with Kåre today, and was looking forward to a great time flyfishing for salmon.
Before we headded up, I tied to flies that I whanted Kåre to try out.
He started and ended with the one and same :) He landed one seatrout, lost a nice salmon and landed a salmon on 2.5 kg.....

Looking forward to tomorrow mornings fishing action..... just have to decide how early we shall go.....

We went up at around 05.30 and fished quite hard all the way to 15 oclock without much success...... But had a nice time by the river :)

Sunday morning Steinar and Marit has landed a couple og fish, one 3 kg and one 1.7kg. Both on Peros shrimp...... Has not heared from them since 11 oclock, so recon there has been some more action since then.......

Headed up in the river again, decided to fish since the conditions looked very fine, and bought the zone together with Helge Stuve and Kåre Ormestad. The evening passed quite quiet, we all felt fish but no one landed...... Just a small one on aprox 1-1.5 kg by me.
Today the hope for good fish was better, but it turned out to be hard fishing today..... the temp in the river was 18 degrees, sun and the river was falling down quite hard.......

I managed to almost land one, but it went off on the shore..... quite ok since I had planned to practice c&r anyway...... It was on for about 5 minutes before the filming started....

I also had another one on for about 15 seconds.....

Helge and Kåre also felt fish, but they went off after a few seconds fighting.....

Went out this morning with Steinar and went west of Mandal, targeting some bigger fish at 100-200 meters. The bait was fixed in a minute, lots and lots of smaller mackrell.

and it both looks like and feels like a good one... :)

The wind picked up today, and it made the driftfishing quite difficult. But I managed to get one finally after just feeling several.....

it actually felt quite big for a while there :)

There has been some serious action up in the river the last couple of days, with lot of water and fantastic salmonfishing, on the right spots :)
One morning I landed 11 salmon during 3 hours of fishing, and they all were between 3-5 kg. Estimated, c&r. One fly was supreme, Aasmunds pattern, and I never got to the spot where I changed it to something else.... :)

I found this "giant" that had ended its days way to early....

The last 24 hours I have fished the same spot together with Steinar. Not the same degree of action, but well enough :)

Since there is a little bit more water in the river than I prefer and enjoy fishing for salom, I went out at the sea this morning targeting some lumb.
Quite a nice view driving out like this:

Tried out something new to cover my ears from the winb, and it actually worked quite well :)

Went quite a bit out and tried some mountaintops at the depth of 150 m, but no success. Only felt and lost one. I then went out to some new spots, and had action several times.

We are 4 men on the zone this time, me, Aasmund, Steinar and Torvid.
Lots of fish to see this afternoon, but not much action on the fly. I got one seatrout on aprox 800 gram and lost one salmon. Aasmund did better :

Havnt fished with Torvid since I was 17, so it was nice to see him in action. Has grown up to be a good flyfisher. Looking forward to tomorrows action :)

update: Steinar called and informed thet he had lost a real big one this evening....... tomrrow he will bring the big gun........ estimated a new personal record ig he had managed to land it.... the line went off, probably due to the teeth on the fish. A big monster, and has lost two so far in 24 hours..... man....

Went up early this morning, around 0300 and met Torvid up in the river aprox 5 oclock.
There were action on the river from the first moment:)
We both felt and lost fish on the first round, and today all of us landed fish.

All in all a nice fishingtrip. Felt and saw a lot of fish. Aasmund landed 4 and kept one. Me, Steinar and Torvid all kept one each. Steinar landed 4.
And I experienced a big one, on the same spot that Steinar lost his, and I lost it since the lin got clipped straight off by the hook. Same as Steinaer yesterday...... s BIG one...

Fished quite hard this time, without much action until a sudden change of fly around 12 the 02.07.
I saw a LOT of fish this time, but didnt mange to get them to take. Only lost one yesterday evening that I recon was a seatrout.
Started early this morning, and fish was comming up the river all the time. but no take one the fly..... For some reason I had not tried out the peros shrimp........ when I put this on, it all changed :)
On the first round I felt and lost 3 after a short while. Decided to use a trebble instead of the small dobble, and after a small brake it was a take on the 2. or 3. cast...... bang.....

A really good and long fight with a fish in superb condition. In and out severeal times, and it went far down the river and was over on the other side severeal times.

It weighed a little bit over 5 kg, and took as mentioned on peros shrimp, and I used mye "lovely" lecie 6/7 dobblehand with fs1 line.

Vi bestemte oss for en liten tur ut på sjøen i dag for å se om det var mulig å dorge på noe laks. På turen skulle Steinar, Leon og Leah Mathilde være med.

Leon er klar som et egg for å ut i onkels båt :)

Det samme er selvsagt Leah :)

Baugen var den foretrukne plass...... :)

Stemningen var helt på topp :)

Noe ikke minst pannekakene var med å sørget for :)

Vi kom etterhvert i kontakt med noen som var i behov av slepebistand; tante Lotta :)

Som etter å ha kjørt inn noen medlemmer av sitt eget utdrikningslag, ikke fikk gang på motoren igjen. Så vi hentet først de siste gjestene og fikk de trygt inn, hvoretter vi slepte tante Lotta inn til Sjebstad.

Som tok det hele med knusende ro :)

og småtrollene ville selvsagt holde henne med selskap :)

Båten kom trygt på plass og vi avrundet turen ut etter kort tid. Kun 2 makrell, ei hongjell og et par småtorsk som ville bite på i dag. Vi sa i alt 3 laks som var oppe og viste seg frem. Den ene traff nesten båten:)
Takker for en toppers tur ut!! Heretter tror jeg det vil være vanskelig å dorge sammen med småtrolla :) etter en runde med litt rask kjøring og svinging, skjønte de fort at det jo selvsagt var mye mer spennende og morsomt :)

I og med at Hilde og Trine Lise har bursdag hhv 25. og 27, har vi hvert år pleid å feire dette sammen med st. hans. Da inviterer vi gode venner og familie til fest med masse god mat. I år var det nyfanget laks som var hovedretten :)
Det ble kjørt på 2 varianter, en ovnsstekt og en varmrøkt.

Fished yesterday evening and todays morning together with Kåre. There were a drop in number of fish sighted both yesterday and today, and not at all the same action it has been on the last trips.

The fishing with kilenot has started in the sea, maybe this can have something to do with it?? a guy we fished together with, said he had heared that the one kilenot close to the river had caught 26 salmon on the opening day, all between 4-7 kg........ and when you think of the total number of theese out in the sea today, its not strange to think taht this will have a great effect on the number of fish entering the river. There is a kilenot- several of them, on almost every little island outside here...... Up in the river you can take one fish home, out in the sea you ca do whatever you whant to do.......

Not much happened the evening, but we had hopes for this mornings fishing. We went up "early" and where at the spots around 5 oclock.
Kåre went in first, since this was his first trip up in the river this season. I told him to take his time on some good spots, but nothing happened.

I went out a bit after him, came to the spot I have taken som fish earlier, and fish on..... :)

Another trip in the river this morning, and what a great day :) spotted lots of salmon comming up the river, splashing and jumping, a great sight :)

The first time down the fishingplace ended up with "just" one time that I let the loop go. Second time, I stopped half the way down. Took a break and started from the top.

In the middel part, I felt a "dunk", let the small loop go, lifted the rod and fish on:)

Ended up with a great fight with a magnificent fish that just didnt seem to tiere...... In and out, up and down, before I finally managed to drag it into shore.....

A good one :)

It took on the somewhat different fly; superflua....

Im allready looking forward to the next trip, 23.06 together with my brother Kåre.

I think I`m in love...... with my fantastic lecie rod kl 6/7 and my own creation "Peros shrimp"..... which gives me these wonderful experiences in the river :) Once again fish on and this time on the first try with my shrimp.....

A nice take and a great fight that lasted a looong time, with several long runs out in the river, jumps an so on. Every time I almost had it on the shore, it went straight out again like a rocket.....

Thx for the great experience, I am really looking forward to the next ones :)

Went out a short trip yesterday trolling for salmon. Only makrell, makrell, makrell...... and these ones:)

The depht at the place was 8 meters :)

All in all I got 4 of these....

Went home, and prepared the fish for smoking. Tasted marvellous as breakfast today :)

Yet another trip up in the river with some good friends, having a lot of fun :) The team this time was: Bernt, Fred, Steinar and me.

There were some real action on the river in the evening, I landed two around 2.5 kg.

It came almost the whole way in, but fell off some seconds after this picture was taken.

No problem, I had a great time with it :)

This time it went the right way, and Fred decided to keep this one since it was the first of the season. No more fishing for him until 18 oclock...

We fished the zone from 18 oclock yesterday, in difficult conditions with lot of wind and smaller waves comming up the river.
I felt two but none of them did go for a real take. The lower part of the zone:

3.7 kg on peros shrimp.....

The first one of the season, and surely not the last....

The evening was quiet when it comes to landing more fish, only more and more wind...
I headed up "early" the next morning, arrival aprox 5 oclock, and landed this beauty after some few casts....:

4.7 kg

It took on the peros shrimp, fs1, and I used my favourite: the twohanded lecie kl 6/7.

It fought quite hard, after a beautiful take, and was into the backing severeal times. A nice and rememberabel catch :)

I went home early, I had gotten my fish of today and later on there will be a birthday party for my niese Ann Mari, who becomes 18 :) Next trip up in the river will be at friday, and Im going to fish together with Fred and Bernt.
