White: A Summer Trend My Faves for Summer

White is going to be big this Spring and Summer. So, it got me to thinking which were my favorite whites. Of course, I love OPI's My Boyfriend Scales Walls but there were some others that I've always liked.

The first one is Essie's Cabana Boy. It is one of their older polishes but available on Amazon and eBay for below $8.00. I really love the shimmer on this one plus a slight ting of grayish-lilac.

Covergirl also has a really nice white called Silver Lining 195. The formula is great on these new covergirl polishes. This white has more of a silver tint to it. I kind of really like wearing white because it make my hands look really clean.

This is Pretty Serious Forbidden Fruit that has a mint green tint to it. It is a great formula. It is really thick. I did put a few drops of thinner and two coats was all I needed. This also has a sparkly feature to it which just makes it that much prettier.

There are three other great polishes you might have or maybe wanted to buy but did not know whether to buy them. One is China Glaze Dandy Lyin' Around. This one sparkles with gold sparkles. The other one is Polish Polish called White Wedding. And if you are a glitter girl the classic Stairway to Heaven is just perfect. I do have swatches of white wedding and stairway to heaven on this blog if you want to see them. I posted these three because these are the ones I reach for the most.

KB Shimmer Diva

Sometimes, You find a polish you really like and you wait around and buy something else and forget you we're dying for this polish. When I saw a notice saying this would be discontinued I immediately ordered it. What I do now is keep a list of the polishes I am going to buy at the beginning of the month but, since, I do nail art I think sometimes I show a swatch a little later, but if it is just a brand new polish I get it out as soon as I get it. Since the middle of last month things have been crazy. I admit I am completely obsessed with the Jodi Arias. The trial has reached an end sort of. So, I am again embarrassed that I have not posted so much but have tons of pictures. So, I need to get these posts done.

So, this polish is purple based with white glitters and purple glitters. It does remind me of a galaxy manicure. If you like this, there are several older KB Shimmer polishes on Etsy.

Crazy Daisies by Whimsical Ideas by Pam

I love daisies. They are actually my favorite flower, so when I heard Pam was releasing this one I just knew I HAD to have it. I ordered as soon as I could and put it on. It was great. I was really easy to work with the glitters which we all know that with chunky glitter polishes, they can be a bit cumbersome. I did not have that problem with this one. I did use a coat of Cult Nails feel me up and two coats of Crazy Daisies. I just love this polish so much. This is actually the second time I wore it. I just happen to go perfect with this blouse I was wearing one day. I got a lot of compliments on how good the two looked together. What I really love about this polish is that it is so springy and Spring is coming very late here in Houston. We have had some weird weather and everyone has noticed. But one sunny day I was able to wear this and just feel that mood that only a Spring day can bring.

I went to Ross with Goldie one day. I get some of her clothes there and she loves to go there and found this shirt, I had seen it online at Macy’s for $29.99. It was my size and priced at $12.99. I thought this will look great with Crazy Daisies and it did. It was like they were made for each other so I snapped it up unfortunately Goldie made no purchases that day.

I might be posting some stuff I have been meaning to post since I will be up all night going through my prep so stay tuned.

On Bravery

Some of you may not know this but Angelina Jolie underwent a double mastectomy. She found out that she carried the gene that she had a greater than 50% chance of developing breast cancer. I could not believe it. My cousin's wife did the same thing but she is not related to be by blood and no one in my family has ever had breast cancer but I have gone and gotten two mammograms and fortunately they were clear. Now, I know there are a lot of women out there who should have gotten one and are sitting there knowing their doctor recommended it and did not do it. Are you ever too young to get a mammogram, I say no. So, even younger girls need to have a screening and lack of insurance is not an excuse because if you call the cancer society they will help you find a place to get one for free. I am bringing this up because one of the illnesses that runs in my family is intestinal or colon cancer. We have only lost one because everyone gets their colonoscopy regularly and believe me they are no fun. I had one when I was 35. If you are 50 your doctor will recommend you get one. I am going in to get one tomorrow. I have been having some problems that my doctor did not like so, tomorrow is the big day. Tomorrow is a breeze today is the bad day in the prep and I won't get into what is required if you want information just look up colonoscopy and you will find out and if you want to see one you can go to YouTube and see one up close and personal. So, while these screenings are a pain they are early detectors of cancer and I am sure that the prep and discomfort of the screening is far less painful than cancer. So, if any of you have an order for some kind of screening that your doctor has ordered just do it. Be brave.

The True Story of the Rings

Most of you who read my blog know I have this thing for rings but this is nothing new. So, here comes the true story about the rings. when I was very young from 3-5 years old I spent every Thursday with my mother's sister. now, my family is huge. I have 10 maternal and paternal aunts all related by consanguinity. The men in my family either die soon or just were not born in our family. Both sides of the family used to get together for holidays because some sisters married brothers. So, every Thursday my aunt would pick me up we would wear matching dresses do a little shopping pick up my go have lunch with my mom then head back to my aunt's house so she could start doing some craft but she had several wigs and a jewelry box full of rings. So, we would just sit in her room and she would show me stuff or over patterns for dresses we would wear rings and one of her wigs. It is a good memory that came to me during a therapy session. I called her to make sure that it was really a true memory and she said yes and we had a good laugh. Now, here comes the funny part it was Thanksgiving and we had about 25 people at my grandmother's house and my aunt was wearing a wig. So, at some point I went and pulled her wig off and said it is my turn to wear the wig. Oh, my gosh, she ran to the bathroom and my mom grabbed my hand and took me to another room and explained that what my aunt and I did was only play and to be done only when we were playing in her room. I don't remember what happened after that but we didn't play with the wigs anymore just the rings. So, I have always had a thing for rings. My sister gave me this one and when I saw it I decided to do a matching mani and yes, I sent pictures to my aunt and reminded her of that fateful Thanksgiving that ended my wig wearing days.

I used OPI's Bling Dynasty, Konad plate M57, black Konad polish and dotted with OPI Smoking in Havana.

Kimber’s Challenge A-Z Letter S

Stands for Stilleto by Ciate. I got this polish about 6 weeks ago and have only worn it once. It is really pretty and easy to apply. It dries fast and is a crème Kelly green. There is not much more to say about it. There are not bells and whistles. It is just a pretty colored green polish. Very simple and sometimes that is ok.

Deep thoughts by Goldie and Patty

Today's topic we will explore the mysteries of the male mind. Now, I know they have two but we will explore the head region. Are they crazy or just stupid. Goldie has it all figured out she hates her father all weekend, any time he is her during the day. She only wants him here to walk her and feed her.
My therapist is a woman and says men only think in black and white and my doctor says he might just have a rare thinking impairment. I try not to share this on this blog but it must be said. I think my husband is crazy. First, he jumps into a tube at the Frio River in two feet of water and tears his Achilles' tendon. He saw Troy. He won't go to the doctor. Finally after seven months he goes and they find out he has diabetes. His ketone level is a 10. ( that is extremely high). Now, the doctor won't operate until he gets down to a 6, which will take another month. You think he would stay still but no. He takes a new job working 55 hours a week including Saturday. He used to work 35-40 hours and have Friday and Saturday off. He's not even getting paid much more. I don't understand. It is stupidity. Well, I guess, I'll be looking out for husband #4 cause at this rate he is just killing himself out of stupidity. No, wonder women live longer than men.

Oops, I Did It Again

As you have noticed I have not written a single post this week. That is is not normal for me. I didn’t even write on my other blog. Well, all I can say is that life happens and sometimes there is nothing you can do. One word can change your whole life and that what happened. That one word was uttered and it changed my life.

So, since Mother’s Day is this weekend and none of my children can be here it just made me so sad. Mother’s who still have your children at home enjoy them everyday every second because before you know it they are gone and you are left at Macy’s way to close to the Chanel counter and go wild and spend $27.00 on a bottle of polish hoping it will fill the hole in your heart. It doesn’t but you get over it and then you’ve got this gorgeous polish. That flashes from teal to gold with a formula that is like butter. Was it a mistake to buy this? No, not right now. Not ever. Chanel is the ultimate. My favorite perfume is Chanel No.5. It is a classic and will never go out of style I think this is going to be the new Periodot. Everyone is going to end up buying it. It will be a fashion must. So, if you get it be happy especially if your kids give it to you and if you get it post it on Monday and let’s see how many bottles were sold I am just kind of curious.

No recycle on this. Can you guess the word I was talking about? First three to guess the word, I’ll send you a bottle of Essence nail polish for Mother’s Day.

Here is a polish that did not seem to get much recognition but it is so pretty and perfect for a summer day. It is light peach and a great everyday polish. I've only worn it once and it just stayed so shiny all day. Minute gold flecks would capture the sunlight every know and then. This isn't your WOW polish but it's simplicity is what makes it beautiful. I got this polish from Sephora the only place in the USA I have been able to find it.

April favorites

April was a month of a lot of polish and not much nail art. I ordered a lot of polish. Probably because it was my birthday and I kept justifying each bottle as a little present to myself.

So, the first polish I want to recognize is of course Claris the beautiful dream pink by Pretty Serious Cosmetics.

And of course we can't get through April without mentioning Rikki. My favorite of the shimmers. Which I ended up buying all of those. Only bought two pixie dust and am conducting an experiment. I will report next week on my findings. But I have nothing like Rikki and I look forward to wearing it often.

The galaxy manicure was vindication for the two other ones I did and looked horrid. I finally got it down and I think it looks pretty good.

Butter London's Sunbaker just reminds me of our summer vacation and how I can't wait to get a little sun and listen to some reggae music.

I added Bobby Dazzler not so much because I am in love with the polish but I like the way this picture looks. I can't wait to wear this.

This of course is my favorite polish but is it Taboo to spend $27.00 on nail polish?

Now, This is What I Want

Now, this is a wow polish because I didn’t even have any problem picking up the duochrome on this one. It is just gorgeous. It is called So Cute by Hits. I am loving this one. It is pink, purple and blue. Formula is great. But the bottle is small. I am definitely buying another bottle because it is just so pretty. I got this from Llarowe for $8.00 and it is well worth every penny. I really don’t have much more to say. The pictures speak for themselves.

Chroma Chameleon

Revlon has come out with a line of duochromes. This is their first try. Have you ever heard that you should never buy a 1st year model car because it always has gliches. Well, that is how I kind of feel about this polish. It isn’t completely terrible but they will probably be able to create a better formula. Yes, that is the first thing they need to work on. It was so streaky I must have done this manicure at least three times and tweaked the polish with first some clear polish and it was still a little thick then some thinner. Then I had to shake it and wait overnight to put it on. Then there is the duochrome which is barely noticeable but it is there. So, I bet the next time they release this polish they will say it is new and improved and it will be and then it will be fine to buy that is why I did not go crazy buying a whole bunch of them. They were a little on the expensive side. 8.99 at Walgreens. I just don’t expect to pay that much for this polish I know polishes less expensive with great duochromes. LIke the color clubs, hits and jade, the china glaze holos are 8.99 at Sally’s, so this is just not a good buy right now. LIke I said wait for the new improved formula.

Hits Mari Moon So Unique

Hits has added four new colors to the Mari Moon line and they are much more a duo chrome than the others except for this one but it is the same thing with the red version of the red one I have it I believe it is called Unconventional. They are very similar as a matter of fact Unconventional might have more of a duo chrome. I might try mixing the two to see what happens. The formula is fine I was just not too happy that there wasn’t enough duo chrome compared to the others. Pretty but should not be called a duo chrome.

So, I just could not get any duo chrome out of this one but the other ones are wild.

What Is Your Blog About?

I was asked that question and said nail polish but I do more just maybe don't share. So, I am coming out. I recycle so many of my manicures it isn't funny. So, I am going to start to share because at the beginning of the year I started post titled, "How to Get Everything You Want in 2013" but never finished it. What prompted me to do this was looking at my life and realizing I pretty much had everything I needed and wanted. Now, there are things that of course I can't give you tips on getting like a mansion or a Bentley but I think I can help with advise on how to buy a car, clothing, furniture, lots of things. So, I am going to throw in some tips. My grandfather told me money is a state of mind. You can either be poor or broke and there is a big difference. I don't know how but I always have money. It amazes me. This did not come about overnight. I have lived both ends of the spectrum where we lived in the nicest house on the neighborhood to a small cramped apartment during my first marriage. I lived on my own for a while after moving to Houston when the relationship collapsed, I swore I was going to make it on my own and I did for almost 2 years. That really empowered me and I learned a lot. So, I am going to start to show you recycle of manicures. Be more informative of sales which I kind of do already. And difficult recycles I am going to put in tutorials. I feel like my blog is still a baby and just starting to sit up. I did start another blog dealing with depression so there won't be too much about that her. But please feel free to email me if you have a question. I am still a licensed social worker and able to guide you in a direction to get help. I welcome helping. So, that is my blog a blog about money saving tips on beauty products and teaching how to make the most of your beauty products. So, in the next couple of days you will see my picture and that statement.

KImber's Challenge Letter Q

I was a little worried about Q as I began to go through my polishes and then I found Queen Vic. Then I found an Old Nerd Lacquer. Quantim Bluniverse and really meant to show that one but when I would think about this challenge I could not remember what I was going to use. The first polish that always came to mind was Queen Vic. So, that just stayed in my mind. My mind is just totally obsessed with the Jodie Arias trial. I am so excited tomorrow they have closing arguments but it is bittersweet also because I had just been accepted into law school and then that accident that changed my life. To top things off they are talking all about psychological statistics which were my favorite psych classes. Well, at least I know exactly what they are talking about. Plus it shows my long term memory is strong now if I could just get my short term memory to work then you would be seeing Quantim bluniverse instead of Queen Vic. A very nice polish, What can I say it is a butter London so the quality is there. I'll just save Quantim bluniverse for the next challenge.

Martian Sea by Pretty Serious

Ahh, Martin Sea really don't see the correlation between this color and a Martian Sea. But this sure is a pretty polish. It doesn't really have a duo chrome but it goes have tiny gold flecks which of course is difficult to capture on a rainy day. The formula on this polish is great. Two coats and top coat. You could even get by with one coat but I think that we are just programmed to do two coats. I remember several years ago someone put out a one coat nail polish. It didn't sell. Even mascara two coats. They came out with a one coat, I bought it and you did need just one coat but it seemed unnatural and I ran back to my regular mascara. So, this polish is probably on my top ten for summer. So, I will be needing another bottle. Oh, news I read on Pretty Serious blog. They are celebrating their anniversary with a polish called Daphne's Happy Birthday. The polish went on sale last week and they are having a contest. The prize: the whole line of polishes plus anything new that comes out that year. Pretty sweet. If you want to know more Here is the link. I got my bottle tonight I will have swatches by Thursday. Nails INC feathers

Hi, I hope everyone had a good weekend. So, since my birthday is this month, I got a lot of offers for big savings and discounts from several of my favorite stores. Like sephora gave me 15% off any thing online or in the store. Now, my husband and I have come up with a little "scheme". If you live where there are Kroger's the have a fuel reward point system. They give you one point for every dollar you spend but if you buy gift cards it doubles and every other month they actually quadruple it. So, one $25.00 gift card gives you 100 points. Now for every 100 points you get 10 cents off a gallon of gas. So, we always have gift cards . One month, when it was quadruple points we earned 3000 points. We paid 1.34 a gallon of gas. So, I usually buy Nordstrom, Sephora, eBay, and Amazon. It just depends. So this month, I had 3 $25 gift cards so, I decided to sock up om makeup and mascara. I had some money left and reluctantly bought this. I read one bad review but curiosity got the best of me.

This is what I found, i used a light green polish then two coats of the polish which dries pretty fast. Then I used a regular coat of top coat Seche vite. Then one coat of a polymer top coat I got from Julep. It was smooth and gave me no trouble. I really liked it. It remained me somewhat of floam. It is very pretty. It comes in threes other colors, blue and white, (I might go get that one)orange and blue, and orange and white. The trick her is the color you use, for example for the blue and white you can use a pale blue or whit and then proceed to put the " feathers" on. The feathers are nothing more than a matte bar glitter. It is a really nice casual look for weekends. This is not something you would wear to something dressy. So one bad review did not scare me off and I am glad I took the chance with this polish. It retails or $9.50 at Sephora.

My Most Expensive Polish

Call it just good after getting out of therapy or weak. On Wednesday, I have therapy and I have been seeing the same therapist for almost eight years. So, sometimes we might cross the line and talk about nail polish, I turned her on to it, clothes, Jodie Arias or sometimes she wants my advise on a case she is having problems with but we decided I still needed her as my therapist and would never switch because she talks to my psychiatrist. That is almost like never done but I force them to talk. So, we had a good session. After therapy is my shopping time. I go to Sally’s, Charming Charlie’s, Macys and they opened this new story called Versona where they sell really cute jewelry. I went to Macy’s and got caught by the Chanel lady. I was of course looking at nail polish. Then she showed me this one and bragged about it. So, stupid it doesn’t take much to get us polishaholics to buy polish. So, I bought it and I am not disappointed at all.

First I have to say that the formula is not like any polish I have it just has a superior consistency. One coat would have been enough but I put on two. Then it dries so fast. The color is gorgeous. You can see the blue undertones. This is officially my favorite polish and yes expensive. I wish it was $18.00 and I would buy more but at $27.00 a pop, it will be a while before I buy another bottle but I am very happy and have no regrets for spending the money.

A Shameless Post of Self Promotion

Tri-Color Challenge #4

For this challenge I used the pink and blue for a gradient and then used my DRK-B plate to stamp the giraffe print with the orange polish over the gradient. This is an easy manicure. The best tip I have for doing gradients is to make sure you use a layer of top coat and that it is really dry and you won’t get the polish lifting or the sponge tearing. Then for stamping same thing goes, make sure you have a top coat over your polish before you stamp just in case you make a mistake you can take it off really quickly although I have heard that using a lint remover takes the stamping off. I haven’t tried it but I am going to and I will report my findings. (That sounds so stupid like I am some investigative reporter. I guess the investigator in me will always be there. My husband hates it. He doesn’t get away with shit though.)

Kimber’s Challenge A-Z Letter P

For the last two weeks I have kind of bashed Nars but there are two polishes from Nars that I have that really have the things I want in a polish. So, for this letter of the challenge I have Pussy Galore. I think this polish might be discontinued but finding a bottle might be a little hard. It is a light pink and does take three coats, now the one I have might be old so it does dry faster than the other two I have shown you. The first picture in the sunlight looks like I put a matte coat on it but I didn’t maybe it just looks dried out in the sun but in the shade it looks shimmery almost has a wet look to it with three coats and a top coat. I do really like this polish especially in the shade.

Crumpet’s Tri-Color Challenge

This is my third entry to the tri color challenge. I had a hard time on the last challenge when this challenge came around. This is not done with a brush. I was watching YouTube and saw this technique where it was done with dental floss. It was super easy you just paint the top of the floss and roll it across your nails. So much easier than using a brush.

This is the type of floss I used. You can buy a bag of 100 for a dollar at Walgreens or Walmart.

So, now that you know a different way of doing this manicure do you think you can do it?
