Jigsaw cutting template: 3D puzzle wooden crocodile

We offer you an interesting and stylish plywood crocodile, which can act not only as a toy or puzzle, but also as an elegant piece of apartment / house / garage interior. It can also act as an unusual handmade gift.

Fretsaw pattern for 3D wooden crocodile

This puzzle consists of about 100 separate parts, but do not let that frighten you. We are attaching a detailed plan (drawing), according to which you can make this handicraft neatly and methodically.

Remember: this very pattern without scaling will only work with 4 mm. thick plywood or wood. It can be easily bought in any building materials shop.

Follow the assembly sequence below (indicated with numbers on the template), and your crocodile will be like on the picture.

Tips and tricks how to cut and assemble the plywood alligator

Use the graphic files with drawings of details: having increased the scale of the details, you will increase the size of the whole crocodile and vice versa. You can use any photo-editor for this purpose – even your smartphone.

It is not necessary to cut each part separately. You can print the plan of the crafts, and then cut out all the details from paper and stick them on a suitable piece of plywood. In addition, you can transfer the drawing to wood or plywood using copy paper.

Then use a fret saw, bow saw, jigsaw or sawing machine. To make the parts more smooth after sawing, you can delicately process them with sandpaper.

On top of that, after assembling, a crocodile can be coated with a special paint or varnished. If you varnish the parts before assembly, then the connection of parts may be difficult.
Children love creating, decorating and playing with toy maracas. Toy maracas are easy and inexpensive to create and they make great instruments for young children because they are more fun than the traditional wax paper and comb, but less expensive than buying a real instrument for a young child who will probably ruin anyways.

Materials

Balloon

Papier mache

Cardboard cone with an open end

Paint

Instructions

The first step to creating your toy maraca is to blow up a balloon and tie the end. If you're doing this craft with a smaller child, you may want to blow up the balloon yourself. An older child can probably blow up the balloon on his or her own but may need some assistance. When the balloon blown up, smear it all over with a small amount of cooking oil.

Cover the balloon with five or six layers of papier mache. Be careful as you spread the papier mache over the balloon, because it is really easy to accidentally pop the balloon and ruin the toy maraca when you've barely begun making it.

When you're finished spreading papier mache over the balloon, attach a cardboard cone with an open end to the base of the papier mache covered balloon.

Now, use papier mache to cover the cardboard cone (which will be the handle of the toy maraca). If necessary, cover the entire toy maraca (the balloon and attached cone) with another layer of papier mache.

Once the balloon and cardboard cone are well covered in papier mache, you should store the toy maraca in a warm and dry spot for several days.

After leaving the toy maraca in storage, pop the balloon and remove the balloon remains from the open end of the toy maraca.

Paint the toy maraca with whatever color or design you wish to use. If you have made two toy maracas and wish to use the toy maracas as a pair, you can paint them the same color and use the same design on both toy maracas. You can use acrylic paint or watercolor paint to decorate the toy maracas. Washable paint doesn't stay on the toy maraca as long, but is a better option if you are working with young children. Older children will enjoy using acrylic paint to decorate the toy maracas.

After the paint has dried on the toy maracas, drop a handful of beans or a sand and rice mixture into the toy maracas. Use a small piece of tape to seal the end of each toy maraca.

That's all there is to it! Enjoy your toy maracas!

How to Remodel Toy Boxes

You can completely remodel your old toy boxes to extend there life, and keep passing them down as heirlooms. Toy boxes tend to take a lot of battering and abuse during their years of use. Children like to throw things around, so toy boxes can be hard to keep without damage. It's a good idea to periodically remodel your children's toy boxes and them in use for years to come.

Periodic Cleaning

First, to keep your toy boxes looking new, you should clean them regularly. This way you will keep the structure of the toy box strong. You will also be protecting your child from the nasty germs that accumulate in toy boxes over time.

Remodel Your Toy Box into a Bench

A great idea is to completely remodel your toy box into a piece of furniture. All you have to do is add a back to transform it into a bench. Now you have a new piece of furniture for your child's bedroom. You can even make your own seat cushions or buy some from a home shopping store.

Other ways to remodel your Toy Box

To encourage your child to play with the toys their toys more, it might be a good idea to completely remodel the toy box. Remodeling toy boxes will save you some extra money and brighten up your child's bedroom, too. You can even repaint the toy box to encourage your child or children to use it more often. A good idea would be to ask your child to help you decorate the toy box. This way your child will feel a part of remodeling the toy box.

Personalize the remodeled toy box by adding your child's name, or getting them to choose a pattern, picture or decoration. Maybe they want to have a picture of their favorite cartoon character on their toy box? Or a specific color? You could even get them to do paint hand prints on their toy box. The possibilities are endless. The sky is the limit. You can do anything that you want to do when you remodel toy boxes in your home.

You can turn this project into a family fun day. You will add individuality to each of your children's room as well as promote self-esteem and uniqueness in the personality of your children. A simple remodeled toy box will always bring smile and fun. I mean, it is a toy box!!

The Easter Jigsaw Puzzles look really cool to make. I plan on making these puzzles with my kids for Easter. I know it would be much easier to run out and buy a dollar puzzle, but this would be a great project to do with your kids. I homeschool my two boys so we usually do crafts once or twice a week.

There is a site called DLTK Kids that has the free printable jigsaw puzzles for Easter. They have different pictures that you print out. After you print the picture out, you glue it to a piece of cardboard. Then you cut the puzzle pieces out. There are lines drawn on the picture to show you where to cut the puzzle pieces.

You have the choice of printing the color pictures or the black and white pictures. I think I will do the black and white pictures with my kids. I think they would have a lot of fun coloring them.

DLTK Kids offer the following Easter Jigsaw Puzzles.

Easter Basket Jigsaw Puzzle - This puzzle is a picture of an Easter Basket with a checkered background. They only offer this puzzle in a color template.

Easter Bunny Jigsaw Puzzle - This is a cute picture of a bunny holding an Easter Basket with "Hoppy Easter" on the basket. DLTK Kids offer this picture in color and in black and white.

Jesus' Crucifixion Jigsaw Puzzle - This is a picture of Jesus on the cross. This picture has clouds, hills, and rocks in the background. You can print out the color picture or you can print out the black and white picture.

Jesus' Resurrection Jigsaw Puzzle - This is a picture of Jesus with a purple cross behind him. This picture is also available in black and white or color.

If you have a laminating machine, you could also laminate these puzzles. They would last longer if you laminated them. If you are going to laminate these puzzles, I wouldn't use a really thick cardboard. Using a thick piece of cardboard may make it hard to laminate.

All these puzzles are free to use. DLTK Kids is a wonderful site to use for crafts and projects. Everything on this site is free to use. I use this site for all my homeschool arts and crafts. They also have other jigsaw puzzles not related to Easter that you can print out.

A warning for hobbyists, be careful what you wish for, or at the very least be fairly specific if you are issuing hints for a gift.

The word was out last Christmas (it could have come from me) that I was having fun assemblingjigsaw puzzles; hence, two new jigsaw puzzles were gaily wrapped and joyfully presented to me when we gathered for our Christmas celebration.

It is now two and 1/2 months later and I am only about two-thirds finished with the first jigsawpuzzle that I chose to assemble. I seem to have hit a snag with this project.

My past endeavors

Prior to Christmas I had completed three Springbok puzzles in a row. Each had 1,000 pieces and had a completed size of 24" x 30". They took approximately one month each to complete. The individual pieces were in a variety of shapes and the design and colors showed up in variations among the pieces.

Now what?

Since I had two new puzzles to choose from, I decided to postpone the beautiful Springbok shell-design one, thinking that it would be more fun to assemble that in the spring or summer. I opted for the Buffalo Games puzzle depicting the beautiful rendition of "Last Supper" by Leonardo da Vinci which had a finished size of 38" x 26". I measured my square-round glass-topped table and knew that it would fit, but without the space of an eyelash to spare.

I have learned to make use of my stack of old lap trays by sorting the colors of pieces as I go and putting those with similar colors together on various trays. The trays stack easily and can be accessed or stored away as I desire.

And so the assembling began of all 2,000 pieces of it. That's right, 2,000, each almost perfectly 1" square, sometimes nearly identical, often the same color and usually without design. The plain blue border only came together by tediously lining up piece after piece until a match was made since there was nothing to distinguish one square blue piece from another.

I advanced into the section with five rows of lettering in three different font sizes. There was a curve of a letter here, a straight line of another there - it was just about as tedious as the border.

Surely the table and the figures would be easier. Wrong. Do you know how much design you can distinguish on a 1" square piece? I have learned that it is virtually nada. There is a part of an eye here, the curve of the palm of a hand there, parts of five different green robes and six different blue robes; well, you get the picture.

I occasionally have the help of the person who gave me the puzzle who, after a few such helping sessions, suggested to me that it would be more fun to complete a number of 1000 piece puzzlesthan to work for months on such a large one.

Yes, this puzzle will get completed; but I definitely have no interest in ever doing it a second time.

And the second puzzle?

Springbok's "Seashells" has 1,500 pieces (oy vey!) and the completed size will be 28.75" x 36". That means the pieces will be slightly larger and I'll have a bit of room to spare on my table as I am assembling it. The design won't be easy as the same types and colors of shells are scattered about the picture, but at least the border has some variations of color.

What about In the future?

I will be spreading the word that 1,000-piece puzzles are nice, while anything with a higher count stretches my patience and my attention span to an unacceptable degree. I would not have learned that without attempting this project, so for that new knowledge I am appreciative along with the thought and love that came with the gift of the puzzle.

My best advice is that there are three things to watch for when purchasing a jigsaw puzzle, namely: numbers of pieces, size of the finished product and the complexity of the design. When it comes to all three, for me less is definitely better!

It is a truth generally acknowledged that all young people adore toys. There are some parents that disapprove of some toys, believing that they are bad for their kids; however, the truth is that no matter which toy is in question it helps our children learn new things.

Some negative effect can occur if you let your kid playing all day long and doing nothing else. Even when prevented from playing, children simply adore toys and games and they would spend their days with their favorite toys.Wooden toys are probably the best toys your kids can use. If you want to learn how to make these toys, just keep reading.

These wooden toys are not only fun and exciting for kids, but they are also very easy to create. Wood is extremely cheap to buy; sometimes you can even obtain it free of charge. You can find more expensive and exotic wood types too if you want. Numerous woodworking stores sell special types of wood that aren't dangerous and are ideal for toy producing.

Should you own special equipment, such as a lathe, you can make some great and even wooden toys. Handheld saber saw may also be used for this specific purpose, but the end result won't be as great. You must not expect that your first products will be perfect, but you have to be persistent and not to give up immediately.

Perhaps the wooden automobiles are the easiest and the most enjoyable for making. The good thing is that you can even buy pre-made components such as tires. Moreover, you do not need any pompous equipment; a simple saber would be enough. Details are also not essential for these to be recognized as wooden cars, but if you are able to provide the cars with some details you can do that.

The most important thing is to use all of your imagination and to use in the best possible way. Bear in mind the fact that these wooden toys will be used by your kids, so try not to use any toxic materials.

This was just an example what you can make, but you can utilize your equipment to produce anything you want. We chose to talk about wooden vehicle toys simply because they are the easiest to be made. Many people decide to get these online, because they are cheap here and they save themselves from the trouble of making them from the scratch.

Here are just a few of the environmental and practical benefits of wooden toys.

Environmental Benefits of Wooden Toys

Wooden toys are better for the environment than their plastic counterparts, because they are made from a renewable material. Although plastic is a finite resource derived from petroleum, sustainably harvested wood can be produced for an indefinite period of time. Wood also involves less energy and pollution than plastic, and it is usually not overpackaged to the same degree.

Health Benefits of Wooden Toys

If you have a young child, such as a baby or toddler, you should consider the possible health effects associated with plastic. Plastics often contain neurotoxic compounds such as phthalates and bisophenol-A (BPA). In theory, these can disrupt a young child's mental and neurological development. Provided they are not adorned with lead-tained paint, wooden children's toys do not contain any compounds taht are harmful to a child's health.

Educational Benefits of Wooden Toys

Many modern, colorful toys discourage creativity and reinforce the culture of distraction. Toddlers who play with noisy, flashing contraptions do not learn the importance of creativity and delayed gratification. Their mental development suffers because they do not learn to use imaginative play. However, wooden toys encourage creativity, problem-solving skills, fine motor development and other important traits for strong educational development in children.

Character-Developing Benefits of Wooden Toys

Wooden toys command a child to come up with his own games, rather than expecting the world to produce an instant reward for simple actions. Children who play with wooden toys learn to be happy with simple, humble playthings; they view high-tech toys with awe and gratitude. Wooden toys help to develop a child's character in addition to supporting his health and education.

As a mother, I'm grateful that my daughter enjoys playing with simple, old-fashioned wooden toys. I believe that they have helped to enhance her emotional, physical and educational development in ways that flashier toys can not accomplish.

The Imaginative World for Children

Interestingly enough, most of us have a little builder inside each of us. A wooden work bench might be the perfect item for a dad who frequently works in the garage. Kids can assist mom in the kitchen and also make her something beautiful in the kitchen.

You can even build your own wooden scooter to ride on or make a little kitchen to call your own. Kids can help mom or dad make dinner and also build something special at the same time. For very young children, there are wooden building blocks that can help children learn. Girls can build their own dollhouses. In fact, a wooden dollhouse is ideal for playing 'pretend house'. You can include little people as well as animals to make the house appear more real. In addition, you can build a garden around and have loads of fun.

There are numerous things that can be done with wooden toys. You might enjoy building a tree house and putting puzzles together. You might be able to obtain a wooden balance board that can be great fun and a good balancing tool. Wooden toys go back in history, and they were a lot of fun for kids back then, just as they are fund kids of today. Kids can let their imagination run wild and be creative. You have the opportunity to observe your child growing and learning while having fun.

This art provides a fantastic way to watch children participate in a terrific learning experience, while they feel as if they are playing. More than that, wooden toys do not cost much. It is impossible to leave out the fun children can have with dominoes. We have all seen how much fun it can be to build something from dominoes and watch it fall. Or you can play a gamer of checkers. Did you know that before plastic was used, checkers made use of wooden pieces? Nowadays, the board may still be made from wood, while the pieces are made of plastic. If you try getting an original set, there's nothing like playing a game of checkers with a wooden set.

Darts might be a game that is more popular for older children. This is perhaps one of the oldest versions of wooden games ever built. This game has been very popular and will continue to increase in popularity. Despite the onslaught of modern technology, nothing can be the same as an original toy made from wood. Wood can bring back fond memories of your childhood and what it feels like to be a kid again.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://wooden-toy-plans.blogspot.com/2014/08/wooden-toys-imaginative-world-for.html' title='Wooden Toys.

Here are some free fretsaw patterns and plans of funny boxes, that can be easily made of wooden scraps. You may use it for keeping small things, or even as an amazing present for your friends! First, make five patterns of the figure, that you like (see the plan below).

Chose the appropriate type of wood. Use of contrast colours and wooden parts of different structure may lead to wonderful composition for intarsia of upper side of the etwee.

Cut out the components of a wooden jewel-box with fretsaw or scroll saw

1. For making any etwee, that is available in this lesson, you will need 4 small planks 120*120 mm. in width*height (the dolphin pattern needs the workpiece with dimensions 120*160 mm.). The thickness of parts must be: bottom and top - 5 mm., the box - 20 mm, the support plank for incrustation - 3 mm. For better combination you may cut out the planks for bottom, top and the box itself, using one type of wood. See the assembly sequence below.

2. Take the two-sided scotch and stick the workpiece of the top of wooden box onto the surface of the box. Stick the pattern of a figure to another surface of a box. Pierce or drill the 1.5 mm. opening inside dotted line in the corner of pattern. Then, insert the cutting edge of fretsaw into the opening and cut the contour of figure, following the dotted line. Leave the pattern clinged to the surface of the box, but disassemble the top and put it aside for a while.

3. By fixing it with screw-cramp, stick the workpiece to the lower surface of box. After the glue dries out, attach the 3 mm. wooden workpiece to the workpiece of bottom detail by using two-sided scotch.

4. Take the fretsaw and cut out external sizes, following the solid lines. Detach the plywood. Grind the rough parts, using little file or fine-grained sandpaper.

Click the plan to enlarge

5. Cut out every detail of intarsia, leaving about 6 mm. beyond the line of cutting line. Attach every pattern to corresponding workpieces with glue and cut the the details out of workpieces, leaving about 0.8 mm. beyond the lines.

6. Attach little parts with double-sided scotch. Polish every part with file or sandpaper.

7. Try to assemble the parts of intarsia and check their similarity with original patterns. After you have assembled all the parts, polish their upper edges to get proper contours.

8. After polishing, measure the detail`s accuracy, and if it is ok, stick the parts to the plywood or veneer. Press and hold these parts to the plywood for 1-2 minutes, trying to keep their mutual layout.

9. When the glue is dried, take an abrasive rod and make a face on the side of a plywood with 45 degree corner. Use little nail file to form the adjoining corners. The face will make it easier to clutch and remove the cover from box, when the casket is ready.

10. To make the cover even and attach it to the plywood, you have to make 3 distance pieces and insert them into the box. Upper edges of these distance pieces must be positioned 16 mm. away from the bottom part, inside the box. It will make possible to press the cover of a box as far as it would go onto them, untill it is levelled with the top of the box. Lay the cover onto the distance pieces, apply the glue and press the plywood with intarsia to the cover.

11. Grind the etwee with abrasive sponge (grain 320 points), then remove the dust with compressed air. Finish your work by covering the box with 3 layers of aerosol lacquer.

Good luck! PART 1

Saw out the parts of a snowman with a fretsaw (or scroll saw) as it is shown on the plan. Perforate the openings. Then, take the wide brush and dye the details "Head", "Body", "Legs" with white color, detail "Present" - with red, and detail "Mittens" - with green. Keep in mind, that all the details have two sides and a butts.

Take a pencil and mark the elements on the parts of a wooden snowman. Take the "Head" pattern and mark eyes, nose, brows and fur-cap. Draw the knitted socks on the "Legs" and the ribbon on the "Present".

Mix white and blue colors to get the light-blue hue. Take the brush and try to paint the part of a plywood toyin order to give a visual round forms of a snowman parts: "Head", "Body" and "Legs". Then, prepare a little bit darker light-blue color mixture and highlight the round forms of details with thinner strokes.

Take the silver paint and rub it with cotton or foam rubber into the "frosty" parts of a snowman to make them shine a little.

Take a round brush and paint the orange carrot-nose. Mix the red and white paints, and dye the cheeks of a snowman pink. Color the brows, eyes and mouth with brown color.

Paint the lapel and the elements of socks with red color. Imitate the knitten structure of the plywood cap and socks. Try to make your strokes very short.

HINT: to make the lines smooth, first, mark it with thin strokes of pencil or brush.

Accurately outline the borders of cap, elastics socks lapels. Take the golden colour and paint the ornaments of present box, ribbon and a bow. Accentuate the shape of a bow with thin brown strokes.

PART 2

Knit the scarf of a snowman using red yarn. It should be about 8-10 cm. in length. If you do not have any knitting skills, you may make the scarf of fabric or braid.

Join the "Head", "Body" and "Legs" with thick brown treads as it is shown on the plan.

Take the glue and stick the "box with gifts" to the body of a snowman. Stick the mittens - one to the body, another - to the box, as if the snowman holds it in his hands. The last thing is to tie a scarf on the wooden toy.

The toy can be hung on a Christmas tree with decorative ribbon (satin or fosta nylon)

Well done! The funny wooden toy is ready to gladden you and your children!

Check out the site menu to see, what else we have here! Merry Christmas!

The patterns are shown as previews, but you may download it for free in full big size. Just click on the picture with right button of mouse and chose "Save as" from context menu. While printing, you may scale it to fit your maximum printer size (usually it is A4).

The methodology of cutting with fretsaw (scroll saw) is rather simple. First, you need to print the pattern on printer. Then, with help of tracing paper, you can transfer the picture onto the veneer or plywood to get the contour on it. All you have to do after it is to cut out the plan out and cover it with lacquer or paint oil!

I am sure, you will make an amazing piece of creativity and make surprized your children and friends!

click to enlarge the image of wooden seesaw

This seesaw is designed for children 3 - 8 years old. It is desirable to use pine for making seesaw slab. The axis of seesaw is supposed to be made of beech, birch or oak bar with dimensions 40*60 mm. and 240 mm. in length. Plane the slab according to dimensions, indicated on picture, especially the front side.

Cover 280 mm. from both endings of slab and kerf the grooves in it`s sides (20 mm.) for joining handle stanchions. It is good to make stanchions of planks 22-24 mm in thickness. Plane and cut out the stanchions as it shown on the plan above. In the area of curvature, drill the 24 mm. opening for the handle.

Plane (or, if it is possible, turn on lathe) the handles of birch bar (180*24*24 mm.) The uprights of seesaw should be made of bars with dimensions 650*50*60 mm. Sharpen one end of the upright. Drill the opening for the axis in the other end.

Take the workpiece of axis and plane the semi-axes on it`s endings. To increase the solidity of axis, make the transition from rectangle to the axle conically. It is reasonable for improving the durability to put on duralumin or steel tubes on the endings of an axis.

Fasten the handles in the stanchions with wedges. The other parts may be joined together with nails. It is also great to use two bearings with internal diameter of 15-22 mm for axis-upright junction.

Install the seesaw only after it is fully assembled.

Drive in the uprights into the ground by turns (to prevent warp). Round the sharp parts a little and polish all parts with sandpaper.

You may paint the seesay with any colours you want. Use oil paints. Then cover the seesaw with two layers of lacquer.
Wooden toy pattern - monkey.

The methodology of making toy.

To make this toy you will need the plywood or veneer (5 mm. in width is desirable).

1. Print the patterns of monkeys`s parts with your printer. Click on the plan of monkey with right button of your mouse and choose "Save picture As".

2. Copy the parts of a toy wo the plywood with tracing paper.

3. Cut out the parts of a toy with a fretsaw.

4. Polish the patterns with sandpaper.

5. Join the parts with help of thick thread and glue, as it shown on the picture.

7. Paint the toy with colours you want.

8. Cover the wooden monkey with lacquer and dry it.

You are ready now to hang it anywhere, for example, christmas tree.

Good luck!

This apparatus consists of two wooden laths (2 meters in length and 40*40 mm. cross-section) and designed for children entertainment and fun. For bigger children you may take 2.5 m. or even longer laths.

To make good stilts, you should take sleek laths without cracks and twigs. With help of sharp knife, shave the length of 1200 mm. (from upper part) to round cross-section (A-section on picture). The ledges (for legs) will be two rectangle wooden bars with openings for bolts. Then drill the openings of the same diameter across the laths every 100 mm.

Owing to this, you will be able to control the height of the ledges on the laths, depending on height and skills of your child. Do not forget to attach resin disks to the ground ends of stilts to prevent sliding.

After the stilts are done, you are ready for contests and fun. By the way, not long ago, the stilts were not less popular, than bike, skis, or skates! Well done!

This workpiece is supposed to be made of foam plastic. Foam plastic sheets are very good for craftwork.

We offer you to make a toy with your own hands. Chose good (without cracks and dents) piece of foam plastic. It will be perfect, if you will be able to find the plastic 5-6 mm in thickness. Cut out the details of a toy by using the methodology, that is described here.

Use thermic cutter or fretsaw for this work. Cut out the details of flying disc: the wing (1), stabilizer (2) and two fins (3). Round sharp edges with soldering iron. Join the part of a tou with glue, epoxy resin or oil colour. Wait for the model to become completely dry. Well done! You may try it out!

Again, it is amazing, that you decided to make a toy for your child. Here is a plan of wooden truck, it is very good toy for boys. Moreover, you may produce it with your son.

First, you should make the chassis of a truck.

Use 3-4 mm plywood for this toy. Draw the contour of a chassis and cut it out with a saw or fretsaw. Then you will have to cut out two crampons. Draw them on thick piece of tin and cut with heavy scissors. Then drill the crampons with 2 mm drill and bend them by dotted line. Fasten the crampons to chassis with nails.

It is time to make the cabin and engine jacket (hood)

You will need wooden bars. Saw off the hatched parts and polish the bars with cabinet file. Then round the angles of hood. After that you should grind your workpiece with sandpaper. Stick two veneer plates to the sides of the hood. Engine jacket is ready now. To make the cabine of wooden toy you will also need the bar. Saw off the hatched parts and process the side parts it with file. Stick the plates with pre-cut windows to the cabin. Stick the veneer plate with pre-cut screen to the front side. Glaze the windows with plexiglass or celluloid. After all parts are joined together, wait for complete insiccation of all glued parts ant then process the cabin with sandpaper and stick plywood or cardboard doors. Well, the cabin of wooden toy track is also ready. The only thing you have to make is body foundation. Use 8 mm pine board or plywood.

Now assembly the unit according to instruction below. Good luck! Go to the site menu and see what we have here!

This is very interesting toy plan. It is Woody the Ant! Now you will see, that you can do this wooden toy easily with your hands! It may decorate your room or it may be used as a toy. take into consideration - this toy is rather fragile. It is not recommended for children under 6.

So, let us get started. You will need cardboard, glue, and two types of wood -- light and dark (ideally). Your wooden toy will be amazing if you follow these recommendations. However, you may train with just a cardboard and scissors.

Take your fretsaw (or you may buy it in a hardstore or DIY) and cut these parts of wooden toy out. Follow safety measures.

The second step is to cut out front parts of Ant. Here it is.

Finally, cut out these parts of your wooden toy -- crura and antennas.

Almost done. Now join all the parts of your wooden toy like shown on the plan.

Woody the Ant is ready for his adventures!

It is also may be made of plywood or veneer.

If it is made of wood it will serve you for many years, however, you can use cardboard for that.

First you have to print this puzzle (thin paper or filigree is desirable) and stick it on a surface of desired material -- cardboard or wood. Then you have to cut it into pieces, like shown below.

After you cut out the vertical strips 1,2,3...6 (in this case 6) you have to cut out wooden puzzle parts by cutting them horizontally. Be careful with your fretsaw.

Well, when all parts of puzzle are made, scrap printed paper plan from your wooden puzzle parts away and join them together. Do you like that? Now it is time to make a painting.

Chose any picture you like. The best way to apply the picture to puzzle is to print it on a sticky glossy paper. Then stick your picture onto surface and, using sharp knife or blade separate the parts again. Puzzle is ready! You may also try to paint the puzzle with dyes if you have some talent.

Enjoy and experiment! You may surprize your child or wife! It may be an unique thematic present for some special day. It may even be a declaraton of love!

These patterns are best for plywood or veneer. You can find it in any hardware or DIY store. The toys can be cut out with use of fretsaw or scroll saw.

Fretsaw is much more widely-distributed and compact instrument, than scroll saw. The only difference while making wooden toy is that you have to apply some physical power to cut out the pattern when using the fretsaw, when the cutting mechanism of scroll saw may be electrically driven. Nevertheless, you will have to obtain a minimal knack to make your lovely child (or even wife!) happy. Wooden toy plans below may be used also for some decorative purposes if you wish so.

So, let us get started. First, you have to choose the needed size of handicraft you are going to produce. You can use the copier machine to do that. Read about it here.

After you have defined the sizes, you need to cut out the paper or cardboard template. Then, using thin layer of glue, you have to stick your template onto plywood or veneer.

Wait for some time and you a ready to work. Carefully, without haste cut out the template.

Do not throw the cuttings away. They can be useful in future. After your wooden pattern is ready, you need to work it up with sandpaper to smoothen sharp edges. Almost done! All you have to do to finish your handicraft is to encourage your imagination and cover the wooden pattern with dyes. As I mentioned earlier, the colours must be non-toxic (if the handicraft is made for your child). Anyway, it is better to use harmless materials.

Well, you have painted your wooden toy, it should lay for sometime to dry out. The last step is to cover your wooden toy with non-toxic transparent lacquer for fixing colours. Wait a little more to finish your handicraft. Thats done! Make a present!

Click the pictures to zoom (the drawings are rather big).

Plywood Wooden toy plans

The best way to enlarge or reduce wooden toy plans and patterns patterns is to use modern office copier machine.

A copier-machine-enlarged pattern is highly desirable, because it is accurate and it can be applied directly to the wood. The copies of wooden toy plan can be temporarily bonded directly onto the surface of the workpiece using a brush-on rubber glue or a temporary bonding spray adhesive. Spray-adhesive technique is more desirable.

There are several spray adhesives available that will work, but it is recommended to use artist's adhesive spray such as 3M's Scotch brand. It can be found in most photography stores, studios, graphics and craft supply stores. One can will keep proper condition about a year. It's a great time-saving product. If use the adhesive, simply spray a very light mist onto the back of the pattern copy -- do not spray directly on wood. Wait 10 to 30 seconds, press the pattern copy onto your wood with hand pressure, and...you are ready to begin sawing -- just that easy and quick!
