You do get your photos and videos up in the cloud along with settings and some user data, but not everything. For instance, some apps have encrypted data and can't be backed up.

Currently, you can't back up other folders, like your "Downloads" folder. But the beta version source code for Google Play Services suggests Google is working on a solution. It will likely give you the option to back up your Downloads folder, and why not other folders as well. Of course, all your data will be uploaded to your Google Drive.

Additionally, there's a string that refers to "documents", which may suggest Google will allow backups of only certain types of files and not everything.

Either way, we can only guess for now, but it seems that Google is already working on the new backup options so that we will know for sure soon enough.

Sourceroid will soon become better at backing up your data

32-Core CPUs From Intel and AMD

But we're really just at the beginning of the core wars: Leadership in the CPU market will soon be decided by who has the most cores, not who has the fastest clock speed.

What is it? With the gigahertz race largely abandoned, both AMD and Intel are trying to pack more cores onto a die in order to continue to improve processing power and aid with multitasking operations. Miniaturizing chips further will be key to fitting these cores and other components into a limited space. Intel will roll out 32-nanometer processors (down from today's 45nm chips) in 2009.

When is it coming? Intel has been very good about sticking to its road map. A six-core CPU based on the Itanium design should be out imminently, when Intel then shifts focus to a brand-new architecture called Nehalem, to be marketed as Core i7. Core i7 will feature up to eight cores, with eight-core systems available in 2009 or 2010. (And an eight-core AMD project called Montreal is reportedly on tap for 2009.)

After that, the timeline gets fuzzy. Intel reportedly canceled a 32-core project called Keifer, slated for 2010, possibly because of its complexity (the company won't confirm this, though). That many cores requires a new way of dealing with memory; apparently you can't have 32 brains pulling out of one central pool of RAM. But we still expect cores to proliferate when the kinks are ironed out: 16 cores by 2011 or 2012 is plausible (when transistors are predicted to drop again in size to 22nm), with 32 cores by 2013 or 2014 easily within reach. Intel says "hundreds" of cores may come even farther down the line.

Apple Announcing iOS 5, iCloud and Mac OS X

Much has been speculated about the features that iOS 5 is likely to bring, and now, come Monday, we shall know what iOS 5 is all about. On the other hand, Apple is also going to preview Mac OS X Lion, the eighth major release since the original Mac OS came out. Also, the much rumored Apple cloud service is also going to be formally announced, but now we do know that Apple was indeed behind iCloud all the time. Let’s see what services iCloud has to offer! Well now, that’s possible. ismoothproject has developed an Apple Script app that will allow you to run your purchased iPad apps, i repeat, purchased iPad apps, on your iPhone and iPod touch. Obviously, you’ll need to jailbreak your iPhone and iPod touch before you proceed with the steps required to run iPad apps.

The Apple Script app required for this is called iTelePad2Pod. It basically sends the .app file via SFTP to your iPhone or iPod touch which should have OpenSSH installed on it. Bear in mind that due to the colossal difference b/w the screen size of the iPhone and the iPad, not all apps would work as perfectly as you would want them to.

Opera Mini New Update for iPad Available for Download

Why use a perfectly good water bottle on your bike when you could use a complex, expensive and awkward to use “hydration system” instead? That’s the promise of the VelEau Bicycle Mounted Hydration System.
The VelEau comes in several parts. First, there’s a saddlebag which holds 42 ounces (1.4 liters) of water. Then there’s a tube through which you drink, much like those found on CamelBak water bags. This runs from under the seat, along the top-tube to the handlebars, where it is secured to a retracting cord on the stem. This cord pulls the mouthpiece back into place when you’re done drinking, where it is secured by magnets.
If that seems like it’s complex, unnecessarily heavy and annoying to use, that’s because it probably is. However, there is at least a compartment to carry a multi tool in the same bag, which adds some utility.
The VelEau will cost just $80, or the price of around 16 water bottles. Available now.

Motorola Xoom

Motorola Xoom
Be it through easier sharing of information through integration with news apps, communications from corporate heads, or clicking a button to share what song your listening to, the medium has become almost synonymous with modern web-based technology. LG is looking to carry that idea even further with its latest mobile DTV (digital television) prototype handset and its “Tweet-TV” integration. As though the cool factor of an Android-based DTV packing phone wasn’t enough, LG has included programming in the DTV app to pull Twitter updates related to what you’re watching and display them on the screen. Now, granted, the accuracy of this has yet to be verified, and it is yet to be seen if this can be made actually useful…but as a geek, I’m always interested when technologies merge into something unique. LG will be demonstrating this handset at the National Association of Broadcasters this week, so we’ll see how warmly it’s received by the tech community.

Samsung Galaxy Pro Now Available At Three UK

Samsung Galaxy Pro Now Available At Three UK

Best of all, it costs just $9 — so you won't have to worry about it getting lost or stolen. Source

Solar Generator Briefcase

Solar Generator Briefcase

Sol8 is an ideal option for anyone who works outdoors and needs a low-cost alternative power source. So many thing have changed over the years, computers are leaps and bounds ahead of what they were in the beginning, but since the advent of e-mail, the way it has been composed has stayed exactly the same, until now…
Google explains that the mouse and keyboard were invented before the Internet even existed. Since then, countless technological advancements have allowed for much more efficient human computer interaction. Why then do we continue to use outdated technology? Introducing Gmail Motion — now you can control Gmail with your body.
Gmail Motion uses your computer’s built-in webcam and Google’s patented spatial tracking technology to detect your movements and translate them into meaningful characters and commands. Movements are designed to be simple and intuitive for people of all skill levels.
First you need to familiarize yourself with some of the basic functionality of Gmail Motion using this printable guide of sample gestures. With it, you’ll be able to start writing and responding to emails – with your body – in no time.

Check out the video, or try the new Gmail Motion HERE.

comes from National Geographic

comes from National Geographic
I realize that I am too little too late for April Fool’s Day, but this Remote Controlled Snake would be a good prank to pull for anyone who is afraid of snakes, like Indiana Jones, for example.
This wouldn’t be the first time that we reported on remote controlled snakes. About a few years ago, we covered an RC Snake from IWOOT (I Want One Of Those), and it had a weird set of wheels underneath its jaw. This doesn’t appear to be the case with this guy, which is made from the real nature pros at National Geographic.
The National Geographic Remote Controlled Snake is about 20 inches long and runs on 2 AA batteries. It is able to move with a “life-like slithering action”, but it does something that isn’t very life-like as its eyes light up.
Yeah, that eyes lighting up feature would scare any ophidiophobe (someone who is afraid of snakes). Right now, it is available with the Banana Boa and the Green Mamba, and I am glad that there is no cobra model after that incident at the Bronx Zoo.
You should be able to get one of these snakes on the National Geographic site now. the Banana Boa is about $39.99 and the Green Mamba is $36.99.

Nexus Silent Mouse SM-7000B

Nexus Silent Mouse SM-7000B

The new Nexus Silent Mouse SM-7000B uses a patented Silent Switch technology, which is designed to emit zero noise whenever you click any of its buttons.
