Mom, Maryjo tells us Bozlee's story:

Bozlee is a California Surfer Dude who moved to Alaska in March of 2007.
Bozlee came into rescue practically hairless and skinny, but (with the right meds and lots of TLC) flourishes in his new forever home.
Nowadays, he loves to hang out with his brothers and sisters, and play with his favorite toy, a sock.

Alaska agrees with him- no fleas, ticks or heartworm-carrying mosquitoes (although plenty of regular ones).

His personality, after years of living in a crate, has burst thru and he is the life of many a pug party!

A note from PugSpeak: When we first joined the international pug community with PugSpeak back in 2002, Maryjo and her pug gang were the first to welcome us to the 'net and exchange links. We think you are a very special lady and we are proud to feature Bozlee! We send our kisses and hugs to you and all your sweet puggy children!

Every Pug Has His Day & Every Pug Has Something To Say!

Mom, Paula McClary, shared some interesting facts about Anna:

Anna was born Dec. 20, 2001 - sired by Bev's Bugsy Malone and Bev's Love Bug. So Anna came by her name partly from Paula's mom, JoAnne, and pug mom, Love Bug.

Anna is originally from the Seattle area and moved to Kansas in 2007 so mom, Paula, could be nearer to relatives.

Anna is a girl on the go -she loves to run and play with other pugs, going on walks, and loves crawling into laundry fresh and warm from the dryer!
And her absolute favorite snack is chicken jerky!

Dislikes include lightening and thunder - which Paula says has been an adjustment since moving to Kansas.
Paula says Anna adores her pet sitter, Pat Ramm, of Grand Paws Pet Sitting Service. Pat visits, walks, and cuddles with Anna while Paula is at work.

Paula also tells us that Anna accompanies her to visit Paula's mom at the assisted living facility. Anna brings a smile, warmth, and puggy kisses to many residents there!

A note from PugSpeak: We had the pleasure of having Anna at our last Pug Parliament gathering last year. Anna is a joy and delight and we are proud to have Anna as May Pug of the Month! Thank you, Paula, for providing photos and sharing her story!

Every Pug Has His Day & Every Pug Has Something To Say!

I am amazed at the number of dogs I encounter - pugs and all breeds - that are not neutered or spayed. What's up with this??

The three biggest reasons I hear for not neutering or spaying is:

1. I can't afford it
2. If I neuter my male dog, he won't be manly anymore.
3. I didn't think anything could happen.

Okay, where to begin: Neutering and spaying does not have to be expensive, folks! Many Humane Society branches and other shelters will spay and neuter at a lower cost. Not all veterinarians charge a huge fee to spay and neuter. In the final analysis, you can shop around and prevent an unwanted litter of puppies or kitties.

Regarding reason number 2, may I just say - a bigger load of rubbish I have never heard! This is purely a myth and one of huge proportions. Whether this is some leftover stereotypical propaganda of the 50s or what, I don't know. Trust me, your male dog will be happier and there is nothing manly about a male dog running upstreet and down alley impregnating every female within a 5 mile radius. Think about how many of those puppies will wind up in shelters and possibly be put down. How cruel is that??

Reason number 3 - all it takes is one time. If your female is not spayed and there's even one unneutered male in the area, he'll find a way to make a date and she will find a way to rendezvous. You can't fight Mother Nature - and unless you are a responsible and professional breeder, you are actually being cruel to your pet. Even if you keep close watch on your dog or cat, you allow them to go through the heat cycle. It's akin to being all dressed up and no place to go.

I urge every dog and cat owner out there to please, please neuter and spay your pets. If you need help finding a facility to do this at low cost, please email me and I will be glad to help research your area.
Mary

Every Pug Has His Day & Every Pug Has Something To Say!

It was a nightmare! I could not believe it was happening!! Victor was the only boy among the 3 puppies born.
Our dear bitch Vivi, took care of the puppies for us. Vivi was still pregnant, but nursed Victor and her sisters.
Since the beginning Victor was a stunning puppy and had a special love for me. We have many pugs at home, and most of them belong to all people in the house. But Victor belongs to me, or may be I belong to him!
He has been to shows as a junior ( he is junior champion ) , but we stopped going to shows since 2002. Victor knows he is special for many ways! He is a wonderful stud dog, producing so many champions in his 6 years, among them the pug #2 in Brasil in 2007 and Multi BIS Brasilian Ch, Uruguai Ch Nabuco´s Ana Livia. Another daughter of Victor who made a lot of success is Multi BIS Nabuco´s Tequila, the puppy #1 in Mexico in 2007.
Victor is the boss in our house for all the pugs. His pictures can tell about his personality, and how spoiled he is!!! He knows how important he is for me, the best souvenir Betty Boop could leave to us before passing the rainbow bridge. He is my beloved boy!!!
A note from PugSpeak: Angela, thank you for sharing Victor's story. We found out it wasn't easy and that patience was the key word to be part of the pug family as they were very few good litters and the new owners chosen very carefully!
Our patience was rewarded when we had the chance to have our little "Lucie": Donymoor Lucky in Love from Johna and Norma Knox in Spain and former famous boxer breeders. So we took the plane from Paris to Alicante and found our tiny little Lucie waiting for us and took her back in France. Lucie is now part of our life in Switzerland were we give her all our love. She is a typical English type pug - very short from Marbelton, Poosbury and Hatella Bloodlines.
We show her quite a lot throughout Europe and she really seems to enjoy it! Her next show is in Milan. We really can't say enough how much this is a wonderful, beautiful and loving breed!
By Fabrizia Thelliez
A note from PugSpeak: Thank you Fabrizia! We love having Lucie as our February 2008 PugSpeak Pug of the Month!

Every Pug Has His Day & Every Pug Has Something To Say!

Before Ruxby, we really didn't know much about Pugs. Now just the word PUG makes us happy. We will forever be crazy about PUGS!
Ruxby's favorite things are: His Teddy Bear, Pig Ears, Dingo's and any kind of Hair Brush. Things he does that drives us crazy: He loves eating toilet paper or Kleenex, he likes to dig in the couch and lick the carpet and last but not least he likes to chase and box with our 13 year old Cat, Chester.
Ruxby sleeps with us in a king size bed and he likes lots of room, He is a very friendly dog and likes everyone he has ever encountered. In his free time he loves to play fetch, go on car rides, lay out by the pool and get his belly scratched. His birthday is December 9th and he will be 1 year old. We love Ruxby so much! We now know why PUGS are so cherished as pets.
A note from PugSpeak: Thank you Meridith! We love having Ruxby! And have a wonderful birthday!

Every Pug Has His Day & Every Pug Has Something To Say!

When the owners tried to register him, they were told it was too late to turn in the paperwork and he could not get registered to breed until the following year. So, he never was used for breeding purposes. The rescuer had Buster neutered and told me he was very needy, most likely because Buster was neglected his first year of life. He mostly lived in a cage and had no love and attention. I was not a "dog person" per se, however, Buster changed everything. He quickly became my very best friend.

Buster has a knack for making people smile and laugh. He is a very special little Pug. I work for a commercial contractor and have a home office. Buster is by my side all day, even when I go to the job sites. He goes boating, shopping, walking in the stroller, and to many other places with me. Friends have come to expect that wherever I am, the Pug is with me. He quickly becomes the center of attention. Buster has a sweet little face and behaves so well. And, when he smiles it just tickles everyone around. Buster has visited nursing homes and the elders wait with anticipation when they know he will be there.

His veterinarian has told me Buster believes he is a human and may think he is my child. Whatever the case, He has a knack for making people feel good. I spend more time getting stopped and answering questions about how he learned to have such a wonderful, sweet, calm disposition. I simply explain that Buster is just a special little Dog and he knows it. We get many laughs when telling people his full name.. Buster Baby Pants. I joke that Buster gets embarrassed when I tell people his middle name. When people respond with laughter, he just smiles from ear to ear. And, they always tell me. '" look at him, he knows what you're saying."
My Boyfriend teases me all the time about how much I love and spoil Buster. I don't think I am crazy, just bitten with the love of my Pug and I guess you could say I am now "Forever Pugged." And, my boyfriend and friends knows loving me, means loving and accepting my very special Pug too.

Pugs and all other dogs deserve a good caring home. Being a pet owner is a responsibility. People fall in love with puppies, take them home and realize they need a lot of time and attention. I know my Buster was a very lonely, neglected animal and it saddens me. Dogs can give their owners much companionship and unconditional love. But, they need that too. and, if One does not have the time or patience to work with an animal, they should not take them on. Because most of them are not as fortunate as Buster and end up in some very bad situations. Please remember to be a responsible pet owner. Get your dog spayed or neutered and give them proper training and love. The rewards are unbelievable!

Thanks so much Monica and Buster!

Every Pug Has His Day & Every Pug Has Something To Say!

She would like to thank me, her family, the dogs of Pooches Paradise Doggy Day Care and Tammy Faye Bakker for assisting her in achieving this prodigious title. In case you, the reader, are confused: My name is Lee Heinemann. I am one of Zsa Zsa’s main companions and caregivers. As I type these words, she is sitting just to the right of my keyboard, her chin resting on the mouse pad. I am merely here to lend her a hand, and an opposable thumb, laying down in cyber-ink the words that she is transmitting to me via mind power.
Zsa Zsa leads an action packed life. She spends most of her days sleeping on a lap or in her orange bean bag chair. When she is awake she enjoys eating cat food, listening to her family tell her she’s cute, and trotting upstairs to bark at the tortoise.
Whenever Zsa Zsa is left alone at home, she sleeps in her green cage with the beware of dog signs on it. When someone returns home to free her, she finds it necessary to show that person an item that she holds in her mouth as she runs around them in a circle. Sometimes she will choose an item that is very large or obstructs her vision (such as a pillow or her dog bed) then the circle may be interrupted when she runs straight into the legs of the coffee table.
Though Zsa Zsa can only speak a few simple words herself (her vocabulary consists of barks, grunts and the word roller-skates) she understands everything we tell her . Some of her favorite words are puppies, treat(s), Zsa Zsa, and GO. When you speak to her, she tips her head from side to side to prove that she is listening. When you say something especially exciting (usually evolving the word GO) she may need to woof, howl or grab your hand in her mouth and try to drag you.
On occasion Zsa Zsa will be given a bath (which she likes more than she lets on.) While she is all wet she needs to run around the house like a mad woman, often in circles. These bouts of energy come and go throughout Zsa Zsa’s routine.
At the end of Zsa Zsa’s day, she may need to be carried upstairs from her bed to mine. No matter how much she sleeps during the daytime, she can always sleep more. When she sleeps with me, she has to be right up against me. When I am on my side she lies across my arm and rests her chin on my pillow or on my neck. She also has to be under the covers. This can cause the issue of over heating, and Zsa Zsa sometimes needs to creep out of my arms and pant into my ear for a while. She recovers quickly. I am a large person (at least 6’ 4” tall) but this 14lb dog takes up more of the bed than I do. In her need to be nuzzled right against my body, she often nudges me and shifts me until I am dangerously close to the edge of the bed. When the problem comes to the point that one or more of my limbs are dragging on the ground, or I start to fall out of bed, I wake up and push Zsa Zsa back to the far side of the bed like the dingy thing on a typewriter.
Basically, everyone in my family is absolutely obsessed with this dog, and we hope that you find her as cute and entertaining as we do.

Thanks so much Lee and Zsa Zsa!

Every Pug Has His Day & Every Pug Has Something To Say!

Raphael is from Pugs 'n Roses in St. Germanshof, Germany. Here's what Raphael dictated to his mom, Silvia D'Elicio. Just underneath, there is a translated version:

Mein Name ist Raphael

geboren am: 11.09.2005

Meine Züchterin ist Silvia D`Elicio, St. Germanshof in Deutschland

Mein Nachname ist Pugs`n RosesHier könnt ihr den Kennel anschauen: http://www.pugsnroses.de

So beschreibt mich mein Frauchen:

Translation:
My name is Raphael and I was born Sept. 11, 2005. My mother is Silvia D`Elicio of St. Germanshof, Germany. My surname is Pugs 'n Roses. You may regard our kennel at Pugsnroses.de.
My favorite thing to do is eat.
I have a wife, named Luna di Pietra and we just began our family of two dear pug children on July 13 - Pugs 'n Roses Vitali and Pugs 'n Roses Vanilla Sky.
I am also quite famous - I even modeled for a dog book that is available in France.
I weigh 20.5 pounds and though eating is my favorite thing, I am agile and have good muscle tone.

Thank you Silvie!

Every Pug Has His Day & Every Pug Has Something To Say!
