Gun Ban Debate

2012-12-20T02:10:00.002-08:00

I posted this as part of a debate with someone. I wanted to make sure it was saved, and that other people can view it. It followed from an argument that Western Europe has a lower murder rate than the USA.

"States like Japan and West Europe have always historically had lower murder rates to begin with. Before or after gun legislation. In fact, the origins of anti-gun legislation in Europe come out of a desire of national governments to prevent armed political uprisings, because Europe has had a long history of them from the 18th century on, not out of public safety concerns. The fact that millions people, in Europe, who were legally disarmed, were murdered by their own governments is troubling.

If I'm going to continue with this line, how come you guys don't consider the murders of tens of millions of people in Europe in the 20th century, in Germany, the Soviet Union, Spain, Italy,Warsaw pact countries, etc, a terrible consequence of gun control. Those murders would simply not have been possible if those Europeans were able to exercise their natural right to self defense, that the 2nd amendment protects. Citizens in Europe are at the whim of whoever the current crop of leader are."

TSA and the 4th Amendment

2012-04-23T22:51:00.000-07:00

It seems there is a story daily this week about TSA abuses in airports. I began wondering at what point the 4th amendment steps in to protect you against TSA harassment. After some research, it turns out, apparently some 1973 court ruling said you have essentially no 4th amendment rights in airports. Yes unbelievably, zones exist where your unalienable rights can be suspended. It's amazing small rulings like this with potentially huge ramifications go unnoticed by the general public, and how a ruling made decades before the existence of the TSA can justify their illegal behavior. Their response, "passengers may avoid the search by electing not to fly."

World of Tanks: KV-1 Skin

I have been playing World of Tanks for a few weeks, and only recently discovered the possibilities for making custom skin textures for vehicles. Here is my first attempt. All done in Gimp, and using a custom Soviet decal. The historically plausible phrase reads "Za Stalina!", "For Stalin!"

I cleaned it up a little more, and added some shadow to make the pauldron and helmet stand out a little more. In the original I found the helmet was too much blending into the rest of the breastplate.
