Review: The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Facial Foaming Cleanser

I tried The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Facial Foaming Cleanser. It is made from rice water, which helps to remove impurities while giving it a brightening effect, and soapwort extract, which helps to brighten and clear up the skin tone.

Here's my review:

I first tried several sample sachets of this and really liked how well it cleaned my skin and how my acne condition improved so I bought in in the biggest size, 300ml.

The cleanser feels rich and creamy, and forms a whipped-like foam after rubbing in. I feel it cleans well and my skin feels squeaky clean after it. It does not feel overly dry after it.

Unfortunately, after using it day and night, I feel it is not a product to use as an overall cleanser. After using for months, I noticed my acne condition did not improve with it and I learnt it is partly due to this cleanser. While the cleanser cleans well, it does not really remove dead skin well. I later switched to a salicylic acid cleanser, which gave me good results and stopped this cleanser.

I've since included it back to my routine as a morning cleanser. I would say this is good as a light cleanser for daily usage, not one to use after removing makeup or for sloughing off dead skin.

Sidenote:

Also, this product has fakes in the market. I was told the way to identify it was to purchase the one made in Korea, and not the one made in China. I did purchase the one made in Korea, but felt it did not impress me as the sample sachets I got. So I'm not confident that I got the authentic one after all. I guess the safest way to purchase would be from The Face Shop physical store or their web store.

I received a 3-pack sample for Mary & May Houttuynia Cordata + Tea Tree Cleansing Foam, Mary & May Houttuynia Cordata + Tea Tree Serum and Mary & May Sensitive Soothing Gel Blemish Cream.

I found out that on their website this Korean brand claims to be a clean and honest brand, with no unnecessary bad ingredients added.

Here's my review. The sample sachets are good for 2 to 3 days usage.

Mary & May Houttuynia Cordata + Tea Tree Cleansing Foam: I was very impressed after trying this. Felt my acne faded and skin got better after it. That's why I looked up the brand. The cleanser is very creamy on the skin and it was comfortable after washing off. Quite impressed by this product. I looked forwards to using it despite being a sample.
Mary & May Houttuynia Cordata + Tea Tree Serum: This is a very light serum. I do not feel anything special with it. It is just very light and comfortable to wear.
Mary & May Sensitive Soothing Gel Blemish Cream: This feels kinda watery and easy to apply all over the skin. Again, it is very comfortable to wear but I do not feel anything special with it.

Overall, I have a good impression on the brand. The serum and cream might take longer to give results on the skin. so my quick review might not be the most fair. None of the products gave me a bad reaction. Prices on the website also look reasonable. I actually look forward to trying more of their products after learning they are a clean skincare brand.

Been a while since I've last blogged. I want to get back to reviewing stuff. Here's one.

I've been trying April Skin Magic Stone Soap in Black for a while. This is supposedly quite a famous product highly raved by Ulzzangs. I don't really care about that to be honest. Just tried the product out of curiosity and I'm impressed.

April Skin Magic Stone Soap is stated to be a 100% natural cleansing soap. It comes in 2 colours - Original (the Grey) and the Black version. The black is used for normal cleansing, while the grey is used for deep cleansing and removing makeup.

I can't read the words on the packaging so I'll just copy the ingredient list over.

The ingredients in it are as follows:

Original - Vegetable Oils (Coconut, Olive, Palm, Sunflower Seed, Grape Seed, Shea Butter,

Black - Gangwon-do Charcoal, Shea Butter, Germented Rice Bran, Sulfur, Pearl Powder, EM broth, Sunflower Seeds, Hyaluronic Acid, Coconut, Castor Oil, Palm, Olive Oil.

I've been using the Black version for months and I really like it. For a natural bar soap, this soap foams really well and the bonus point is that it doesn't melt that fast as compared to other natural soap. So even if you leave it wet, it's still in solid form. I've used other organic soaps and they can turn soggy and melt to half the size once you wet them.

Once you foam up, spread the foam across the face. The more foam you have, the better it cleanses the face as foam can get in your tiny pores and cleanse thoroughly. One thing to note is to avoid getting the foam into your eyes as it can hurt very badly. I mean badly.

Of course, this product is not perfect. After using it for a while, I notice it did nothing for my acne or acne scars. So if you are purchasing this for it, it's not going to do wonders for acne skin. But I did notice that I don't have as much blackheads as before. I usually get like a cluster around my cheeks and they have lessened. It does not make bigger blackheads disappear overnight, but I've noticed them to dry up a little faster with time and they pop really easily. So my blackheads have really reduced significantly.

After my first time cleansing my face with this soap, I also noticed how clean and soft my skin felt. Then it felt a little dry (I noticed other reviewers mentioning it so I took extra notice of it) so I had to moisturize properly after it. But after using it for a while, my skin got used to it and it no longer felt dry. Instead I feel fine even if I did not moisturize my face after. I also notice less oiling as compared to using other cleansers.

So I really love this soap. I think it's really worth buying and it's also affordable. I love that it's natural and also does wonders for my oily skin. I've noticed an improvement to the texture and brightness of my skin after using this. I would recommend it.

Hello, I'm back with a review.

The weather is really horrible in Singapore lately. We are going through a heat wave where weather's really warm and humid. It is a little better today. I'm sharing the product that has been helping me survive the heat wave.

I got the Laneige Water Sleeping Mask a long time ago but only started using recently. My thoughts are "Why oh why didn't I start using it earlier?"

Laneige Water Sleeping Mask comes in a sleek blue container. It has a gel consistency and there's a distinct aqua smell in it (it comes off smelling like alcohol sometimes. I have no idea whether there's any alcohol in this). The texture is light weight to me and absorbs really easily.

I use this at night, after cleansing my face. At first I thought since it's a sleeping mask, it would be thick to keep the face hydrated but no. It's really light and easy to slather over the face. Initially I used a lot thinking that's the right way to use it. But I've since minimize the amount I used. There really isn't a need to slather much on. I just take a pinch and apply it evenly. It leaves my face feeling cool. The product also absorbs fairly easily, leaving the skin feeling hydrated.

As you can see earlier, I have been complaining about the weather. The product has left my skin feeling well hydrated and my skin doesn't oil up after applying it. As it is of gel texture and absorbs really fast, it also doesn't make my skin feel sticky in this humid weather. I am really thankful for the product because I was expecting my skin to dry up, itch or my pores to be visible from the weather. But my skin has been behaving well after using this product. In the morning, my skin feels fresh and dewy.

The recommended usage is once or twice per week. I have been using this daily instead sparingly due to the weather. I'm slightly addicted to it.

This is a delayed haul post. Actually I have a ton of delayed haul posts. I really wonder if i should post them. xD

Here's some stuff I got from drugstore.com during one of their sales that I can't remember. I really did minimise my order.

Bought Maybelline EyeStudio Color Tattoo 24Hr Eyeshadow as there were huge raves for them. (I'm so late into this). Got them in Bad to the Bronze and Tough as Taupe since I figured cream eyeshadows don't keep well in our weather so basic colours are probably the best. I love these. These are really nice and I would recommend them. I use Tough as Taupe just to lightly define my eyelids on lazy days.

Got L'Oreal Infallible in Perpetual Purple. I haven't opened this yet but I've swatched this in Watsons stores so many times. I really love the colour payoff of these I feel like buying all the colours. The thing that make me a little cross is they labelled the eyeshadow colours in Singapore as green, blue, purple, gold while online, these have completely differently colour names.

I also ordered a couple of Maybelline concealers but most were out of stock. :\ I'll probably try to order again. Now the Maybelline Fit Me! Concealer in Medium 25 is something i decide to try after watching MakeupGeek's rave about it on Youtube. I ordered a shade up so that it'll cover my dark eye circles. A quick review. Now it is darker than I expected. I think it will fit those NC30+ girls. It also seems orange-based for this shade which makes sense if you want a peachier shade to use as corrector for your dark eye circles. The consistency of this concealer is actually liquidy and easy to use. The concealer is pretty good though it still isn't strong enough to cover my dark eye circles. I do think many others with less serious dark eye circles problems would enjoy the light-weightness of this product. It's really cheap too. I think it was USD$6.

A little rant here. Do you know how much a L'Oreal liquid concealer cost in Singapore? It costs SGD$19.90. I can buy 3 of those.

I realised I haven't updated in a while. Truth is, I actually cut down on spending money be it skincare/makeup/clothing.

Bad thing is it actually makes me less inspired to blog.

Good thing is it actually allows me to finish up stuff I bought. It forces me to rethink about spending on skincare/makeup until I actually am about to finish it. And I get to save money.

Hello world. I know I've been away for a while.

To be honest, I have posts I've been wanting to post piling up. But... sometimes you just don't feel like doing so. I wanted to do reviews super badly but I get really long-winded until I don't feel like writing anymore. Hauls are easier to do but after doing them, I feel like a terrible hoarder.

Awkward.

So anyway I'm back today. I just can't sleep. Might as well right. Just a quick October haul.

Picked up 2 SilkyGirl Blockbuster Color Palettes in Bare Classics and Smokey Charm when Watsons was selling these for half off. ^.^ Had wanted this long ago but I was never willing to pay full price for this. Patience paid off. Yay! Bare Classics is just a great everyday neutral quad to have. Absolutely love the colours in Smokey Charm which is a really pretty colourful quad. Might even post an eyeshadow tutorial later...a sloppy one though.

Picked up another Revlon Colorstay Eyeliner in Blackberry too. I owned the brown one and it's my favourite everyday go-to eyeliner. Blackberry is a deep plum shade when swatched on the hand. But on my brown eyes, it just ended up looking blackish brown. Wished I had picked up the navy shade instead.

And picked up some skincare/haircare I really needed. I ran out of my favourite products for fighting acne - Thursday Plantation Tea Tree Oil and Nixoderm Ointment Cream . Had to stock up on this.

For haircare, I ran out of hair treatment product. Previously I was using L'oreal Elvive Smooth-Intense Smoothing Masque which I do like for keeping my hair frizz-free but I wanted to try something new. Picked up Essential Ultra Honey & Shea Butter Intensive Hair Mask, which bubzbeauty (youtube) raved about in an older video. It smells really heavenly, with a sweet honey scent and my hair does feel smoother with this. :)

And I've also been looking for a night cream for a long while so I also bought Sukin Moisture Restoring Night Cream, when I found it selling for half off at Watsons. Super happy with this purchase as the cream works really well for me and I love the scent of it. It has a citrusy vanilla scent similar to Sukin Protein Shampoo (which I need to do a review for it soon) and I love using that shampoo just because of the scent. It keeps me happy. The cream is rich yet not super thick and my skin absorbs it relatively fast. But some might not like it as it has alcohol content. Perhaps I am going a review for this one... :)

Qoo10 Hauls: China Glaze Nail Polishes

Sharing my mini China Glaze haul from Qoo10 (Gmarket Singapore).

Actually I was most excited about this since I do not own any "branded" nail polishes. (Revlon doesn't count). In the past, I've always wanted to try OPI, China Glaze, Essie nail polishes due to all the raves but you can only get those by ordering through online sprees. Whenever I wanted to place an order, I would take forever to decide on colours and by the time I was done and ready to order, the spree had closed. So now, I can take my time to order instead. Definitely less stressful.

I didn't want to turn into a nail polish fanatic who buys nail polishes in every colour. Thought it would be better to buy colours which are less glaring and be great for daily wear.

Picked up Sweet Hook (pinkish lilac), Electric Beat (muted blue), Gothic Lolita (purple with blue duochrome). Absolutely love Sweet Hook. It was not the shade of pastel purple I wanted but it turned up to be so pretty nevertheless (it's brighter and pinker than in picture). I can't stop wearing it. I haven't tried the rest but love the other two too. Electric Beat is this neutral muted blue. I think it's great if you really don't like glaring nail polish staring back at you whenever you look at your fingers. As for Gothic Lolita, I picked up only because I am obsessed with purple, especially purples with blue duochrome in it. Since I love purple, I guess I don't mind adding it in my collection.

So far the China Glaze nail polishes have lasted pretty well on my nails even without a top coat. Definitely will be getting more colours.

You can get China Glaze nail polishes from Sephora Singapore and certain Watsons for around SGD$18. I bought these for around SGD$7 from this Qoo10 seller when there was special promotion ongoing.

Gmarket Hauls: Missha The Style Perfect Concealer

Bought Missha The Style Perfect Concealer in Natural Beige from Gmarket (now known as Qoo10).

Read some good reviews about it so I was very keen to try since it's not easy finding great undereye cream concealer.

The concealer comes in a small jar with a screw top. Was very surprised when I tested it out as it is very very creamy and glides beautifully.

Did a quick swatch. The shade is quite yellow and seems able to conceal the green veins showing at the back of my hand.

Going to test it out longer and probably do a full review for it.

Got the Missha concealer for SGD $5.90 from this Gmarket seller who sent me 2 samples too (which I forgot to include inside photos). You can also consider getting it from this seller who's currently selling it cheaper.

New Hauls: Kate eyeshadows + Canmake Blush and Lip Concealer

Posting my random haul. I try not to do impulse buys when I'm out in the drugstore but I had a voucher to use up :D *EXCUSES mode*

Anyways, missed the recent Watsons cardmembers' sale but... luckily I decided to drop by the following day. They actually still have some leftover makeup sets they usually bundle up to sell during cardmember sale. I usually try to grab those whenever I'm at Watsons sale because they offer the best deals (of course, take note sometimes the items they are trying to clear off have short shelf life).

I picked this Kate bundled set, which contains:
- Kate Diamond Cut Eyes BR-1, which contains golds and bronze shades
- Kate Gel Eyeshadow in PU-1, a light lilac shade
- Kate Lasting Color Eyes in BU-1, a sky blue shade.

Got the above set for $20. Love this set. Very impressed with the eyeshadow quad and the stick shadow. The gel eyeshadow has a bouncy mousse texture, which is fun to play with but pigmentation is lacking.

Dropped by John Little to pick up some Canmake since I realised I have not bought anything from them for a super long time. It's funny how when you have a voucher to use up, you don't really know what to use it on. Do you feel the same? I had a hard time choosing since the item I want (Cheek Gradation :(. Let me know if it's still being sold) seems discontinued. Picked up Canmake Powder Cheek in PW23 Peach Pink and Canmake Lip Concealer in 01. I kind of regret getting the lip concealer. Read some reviews after buying but still went ahead to try it on, and indeed it seems to accentuate lines on my lips.

But I like the blush. It's just a simple peachy shade, I guess. I'm not loving that most of Canmake blushes seem to have a lot of glitters.

Bought more of the Holika Holika Jewel-Light Waterproof Eyeliners after liking my previous buy in Pink Topaz.

Got in 02 Black Crystal, 03 Lopis Rajulri, 04 Purple Amethyst and 06 Olive Perry dot. Got these at sale prices at SGD$3 each. :) Came with 2 Etude House samples too.

Finally ordered the new Skin79 Super Plus Vital BB Cream too. Love the bright bold orange packaging.

Seller was generous enough to give 3 samples - a Skin79 Super Plus Hot Pink BB Cream sample, a Skin79 Super Plus Gold BB Cream sample and a Skin79 BB Cleanser sample. When I ordered, I thought I was only going to get 2, but the additional cleanser sample surprised me. :)

New Skin79 Orange Vital BB Cream vs Old Skin79 Gold BB Cream

The orange bb cream is still 40g but I actually found out that it seems a little shorter than my older Skin79 Super Plus Gold BB Cream purchased more than a year ago from Gmarket too. I started wondering if my older gold BB cream is a fake (which is unlikely since I did a thorough check on my gold bb cream before using it and it seems authentic). Did some research and they seem to have revamped it into a smaller size. The difference in height is not much but thought I'll mention it. The new packaging is actually better because the bb cream comes with a product authenticity label at the back.

Swatched this on the back of my hand and it's really yellow. That's the reason I wanted it, simply because it's not grey toned bb cream but yellow. Hehe. Tested the product on my face and it blends well and helps to brighten up the face. Although it's a yellow based shade, I think light skinned girls would still find it to be too fair for them. Perhaps it's the SPF 50 that causes the skin to look overly light. Fair skinned girls would love this I suppose. I probably need to try this longer and play around with it before I can decide whether I love it.

Gmarket Hauls: Holika Holika Jewel-light Waterproof Eyeliner in Pink Topaz

I've been obsessed with Gmarket Singapore lately. I had originally planned to order stuff (bags and apparels) from Gmarket Korea instead. I was in a mess, trying to figure out Gmarket Korea's site since everything was in Korean. Before I ordered, I dropped by Gmarket Singapore's site and actually found the exact listing with the same bags and apparels and they were having some form of sale. xD Decided to cancel the plan and just order from Gmarket Singapore directly. I've been hooked onto the site since then.

I really wanted either a white or beige pink eyeliner for brightening my lower lashline so I bought this Holika Holika Jewel-light Waterproof Eyeliner in 08 Pink Topaz. They also have a white one for lining the lower lashline but I was really drawn to the pink.

Received my eyeliner in about a week, along with 2 Etude House Fresh Cherry Tint samples in 1 Red and 2 Pink. :D

The Holika Holika Jewel-light Waterproof Eyeliner is actually soft and glides on skin beautifully. It is light pink with many tiny sparkly glitters in it. The top swatch shows the base colour is close to my skintone. To be honest, I can't really tell whether the base colour is a straight pink or slightly peachy pink shade since there's so much glitters. The bottom swatch shows the glittery effect when light hits the eyeliner. The tiny glitters sparkles like diamonds. On the hand, the eyeliner rubs off easily if you rub immediately but it doesn't budge once it sets. But I probably need to test it longer to see if it's really waterproof or whether it smudges on oily eyelids.

I used this on my lower lash line and inner corners and really love how my eyes look after it. It really makes my eyes look much brighter like the first picture. Love it. Would totally recommend this since it's cheap and mad gorgeous.

Bought this eyeliner for around SGD$5 from this Gmarket seller in an older listing. I snatched up the last few remaining eyeliners in the previous listing when there's a further slash of price so that's probably why it's gone. lol. You can also get it from this other Gmarket seller.

Review: Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss

Product Description:
The Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss comes in a chic black, gold and clear plastic tube. Inside it, it comes with a doe foot applicator. The glossy formula by Revlon combines sheer color and intense moisture with light-reflecting spheres to create amazing shine. It also contains SPF 15. Each tube contains 0.2fl oz (5.9ml) of product.

Formula/Texture:
I actually really like the texture of these lip glosses a lot. They go on smoothly and are not sticky at all. There is a slight sweet vanilla scent.

Colours:
They have a good variety of colours to choose from. I find the colours to be pigmented, especially those from the Summer 2010 collection (Coral Reef, Peach Petal).

Here's what I own:
Coral Reef: A really bright, neonish-looking coral. I love how bright this is. It's a lovely shade if you like bright bold colours.
Peach Petal: A milky pale nude peach. This shade is really pale so it can make you look dead. But you can layer over other lip sticks or mix with other lip glosses to lighten the initial colour.
Nude Lustre: A neutral beige peach or maybe pink. It's kind of hard to describe such a neutral colour. But it's my MLBB colour. I think this would suit most people.
Pink Pursuit: A slightly sheer medium pink with subtle silver shimmers and glitters. The colour doesn't really appear on my pigmented lips. I'm not fond of Pink Pursuit because this particular formula stings my lips whenever I apply it. I think it's probably due to the glitters. :(

These retail for SGD$19.90 in Singapore. You can get them for US$6.99 from online stores like Drugstore.com.

Overall Thoughts:
I actually think Revlon makes the best drugstore lip glosses. I really like these Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Glosses a lot. They are my current favourites and I would highly recommend them if you like non-sticky lip glosses. I just wish they'll release more colours in Singapore.

A quick review. These palettes are indeed gorgeous. The eyeshadows are really lovely. The shimmery shades are very pigmented and smooth but I find the matte shades lack in pigmentation. I also find these eyeshadows to be quite powdery too so it gets a little messy around the palette.

And I got Sleek blush in Suede and Life's a Peach.

These blushes look big here but they are actually quite small. I would say they are packed very compactly and a good size for bringing along for travelling. Suede is a tawny peachy brown shade while Life's a Peach is a apricot colour (yes I finally learnt that it should be described as apricot blush instead of orange). I haven't tried both yet but if I had to recommend, I would pick Suede because it's a more unique shade. It also has a lot of rave reviews that it goes on like a natural flush so that's why I got it.

Overall, I really like the items I got. I think they are of good value for the quality of product.

Review: Daiso Blushes - Ellefar Multi Cheek in Beige and Orange

A while back, I was wondering whether there is any cheap (inexpensive) makeup selling in Singapore. I did a little bit of research and of course Daiso was one of the brands mentioned.

For $2, you can get these Daiso blushes Ellefar Multi Cheeks. They are packaged really nicely and in fact, look similar to Canmake Cheek Gradation blushes.

I picked up Ellefar Multi Cheeks in Orange and Beige. I was really drawn to Beige in the box as it's a super pretty peachy pink shade.

Orange is a burnt orange shade which is a little too dark for me but I think it will look nice on slightly medium tanned skin. Beige is this peachy pink shade, which should be flattering on most skintones. When swatched, there's a little bit of shimmer but it's not noticeable on the face. I do not find the blush shades to be extra unique after trying them out but still, these are very decent blushes for the price you are paying. As you can see from the swatches, these blushes are super pigmented. You might want to apply with a light hand when using these.

These blushes come with blush applicators. I usually like to keep the applicators inside the casing (and use them if the bristles are soft) but I would recommend throwing these out because they have a strong chemical smell. Just use your own blush brush.

For $2, I would say these Daiso blushes are definitely worth a try. They are budget friendly for those unwilling to spend too much money on makeup and those who don't really apply makeup often.

There is a total of 4 shades. There's one in Pink, which is just a very sweet pink shade and another in Brown, a dark brown shade which is more suitable for contouring.

New Hauls: More Revlon and Ginvera BB Cream

I've been really lazy and not been updating. It's about time I get back to my blog.

This is quite an old haul. Picked up these stuff during Watsons members' sale again. I think it was during the Chinese New Year sale.

Picked up Revlon ColorStay Liquid Foundation in 180 Sand Beige. I've been wanting this forever. I just couldn't bring myself to pay full price (S$29.90) for it in Singapore. Also picked up Revlon PhotoReady Stick Concealer in 004 Medium.

Now I only got this because there was 30% discount off. On top of that, I get a free makeup pouch and another Revlon nail polish (yay for freebies). I picked out Revlon Nail Enamel in 907 Steel Her Heart, which is a gunmetal shade.

Also finally got a full sized Mentholatum Acnes Creamy Wash. I did a review for it back here. It's really affordable for an acne cleanser but yet I keep forgetting to pick it whenever I go Watsons, until perhaps the Watsons members' sale. It's always sold out during members' sale so you can imagine how popular it is.

Also decided to try out the Ginvera Green Tea Nude Cover BB Cream. It was going for buy 1 get 1 free so I thought might as well get it. Test it and I find the Ginvera BB cream to be liquidy. It seems more of like a tinted moisturizer than a BB cream (which you would perceive it to have a thicker consistency). The shade is on the beige side but works for me. Would be trying it out longer before doing a review.

Review - Chersamme Reversible Skirt

Bought 2 Chersamme Reversible Skirts (Zara-Tulip Skirt Inspired) after reading Wendy's review. I thought the skirt looks really cute on her and moreover, I really really like multi-functional clothing.

I've stopped shopping from blogshops online mainly because a lot of "free sized apparels" didn't fit me right and ended up disappointing me. So I took a gamble this time as this blogshop offered bigger sizes. I'm glad I bought these.

I ordered Girly Teenager, which has a strawberry fushia and bubblegum violet combination and The Wonderwoman, which has coral red and electric blue combination.

I would say the colours are true to the website's photos, except for The Wonderwoman's Coral side, which turned up looking more of a coral orange in reality than a coral red. All the other 3 colours are all very rich and vibrant while the coral appears a bit duller in comparison. Nonetheless, I find it to be a unique shade.

The reversible skirts are made of elastic polyster silk and so they are incredibly smooth to the touch. They have a few pleats in front but I don't find them to be that visible. The skirts are not sheer at all since they have 2 layers of coloured fabrics sewn together. The skirt comes with 2 pockets and it's the same even when you reverse it. It is smocked at the back.

When I reversed the skirt to try on the other side, I noticed that it will end up like this (see below) where the different coloured fabrics aren't aligned properly so the blue fabric will peek out a little when wearing the coral side. But I am not that bothered by it as it can still pass off as part of the design (to have it peeking out).

Overall, I really like the Chersamme Reversible Skirts. I like the cool concept of having 2 wearable skirts in one. I prefer The Wonderwoman a little more as the electric blue side is really pretty while the coral side is more muted but still really nice.

New Hauls: Watsons Christmas Member Preview Event 2011

Went to Watsons Christmas Member Preview Event on 16 November 2011. There was 30% discount off for most items. I thought it was a pretty good sale considering Watsons only had 25% off sales for previous Cardmembers' events. I had planned to get KATE stuff but the place was so packed and overwhelming that it totally slipped my mind. -.-

Here's the stuff that I picked up.

I picked up Majolica Majorca Rouge Majex in 21 and PK102 and Majolica Majorca Frozen Splash Eyes in GR732. These came together in a pack for $15. I thought I'll try it as I have never tried MM's lip glosses before. Was also curious about their Frozen Splash Eyes, which is basically like a cream base. It's kind of sheer.

Also bought Majolica Majorca Puff de Cheeks in PK301 Peach Macaron since there's 30% off. I think the original retail price was $22.90 so I got it for $16. Can't wait to use this.

The cosmetic section for brands like Maybelline/L'Oreal/Revlon/Silkygirl had some great deals like "Buy One Get One" for lip products or "Free gift with purchase" so everyone was squeezing over there.

I picked up more Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss as I really like those I've tried. I got them in Peach Petal and Pink Pursuit. Peach Petal is a milky pale peach while Pink Pursuit is a medium pink with lots of shimmer. I don't know if it's me but Pink Pursuit stings my lips if I overapply.

And I finally bought Revlon Colorburst Lipstick in 070 Soft Nude. I have been wanting this for a while but I'm not willing to pay full price for it, which is $21.90. There was 30% off for Revlon products and if you buy their lipsticks, you get a free nail polish too. I get to pick one from 3 shades so I picked out Revlon Nail Enamel in 790 No Shrinking Violet. It's a super gorgeous deep purple (almost eggplant).

I figured I need more sunblock so got Mentholatum Acnes UV Tinted Milk SPF 50 PA++ UVA/UVB and Mentholatum SUNPLAY Water Kids Low Sensitivity SPF 60+ PA+++. I've never tried these before. Bought these after doing some online research about sunblocks.

I also got a twin pack of La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water ($24.90 member price) to try out. It was so crazy as Watsons had twin packs for thermal sprays of different brands like Avene, Vichy, Uriage. I was just so drawn to them all as my skin had been feeling really dry lately.

I actually enjoyed myself and the trip down was worth it. There were some other better deals which I missed out as I was in a rush. I also think I bought too many lip products. The Revlon nail polish was also a really nice surprise. It worked beautifully and I absolutely love the colour. Would totally recommend it.

Review: Jewelmint Serpentine Necklace

Got the Serpentine Necklace from Jewelmint. If you watch Youtube, you would probably know what Jewelmint is. It's basically an online store selling jewellery pieces designed by Kate Bosworth and Cher Coulter.

It comes in a neat mint green box with a black ribbon. You do not have to untie the bow. It's just a separate piece of ribbon in a bow shape stuck on another piece of ribbon . I feel kind of foolish untying it. -.- You just have to slip the whole thing off the box.

Inside the box, it comes with detailed information on the piece. The mint green box is more true to colour in the second photo.

The box is also well packed with black cushion.

So after removing the top layer of cushion, tada, here comes the necklace.

The Serpentine necklace is made with gold and silver herringbone chains that crossed each other in the front, giving a layered effect. I was impressed that it appears true to the photo provided on the Jewelmint website. The necklace is really pretty. It appears to be really simple but when you touch it, you can feel that it's quite substantial. The piece is also quite shiny in real life.

At the back, you get a clasp that's like those you find on watches. Generally, I find it a pain to open. I laid it flat in the photo above so you can see the gold and silver slinky chains crisscrossing each other at the front.

Here's a closeup of the Serpentine necklace. I had a hard time capturing the real colour of it as it just appears super shiny on the camera. But the colour's pretty close to the closeup shot. Look at how the two chains intertwine with each other. Now you know why it's called the Serpentine necklace.

Jewelmint also suggested that it could be worn as a bracelet.

Overall, I love it. I picked this up because I find it to be a versatile piece for wearing with collared tops, dresses, dressing up simple tops or layering with longer necklaces. Generally I am not a fan of slinky chains like these but I think it goes perfectly with this design. I love that this design is very simple, yet sleek and also the two-tone concept. Like I said earlier, the necklace is also very substantial and definitely doesn't look or feel cheap.

One thing that I probably would rethink about is the price. Each Jewelmint piece is priced at US$29.99. In all honesty, I wouldn't pay full price for it. But I've seen discount codes floating around and "Buy one get one" sales, so that would be a great time to buy instead.

Currently, Jewelmint only ships within the US. They do not take international orders at the moment.
