With it, you get the phone and a bunch of extra subscriptions for one monthly price. But is it a good deal?</p><h2 role="heading" aria-level="2">What Comes With the Pixel Pass?</h2><p>Google announced that the Pixel Pass would include either a Pixel 6 or a Pixel 6 Pro and a few popular Google services. Here’s what you’ll get:</p><ul><li>Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro phone</li><li>YouTube Premium</li><li>YouTube Music Premium</li><li>Google One 200GB plan</li><li>Google Play Pass</li><li>Preferred Care coverage</li></ul><p>If you want a Pixel 6, all that will set you back $45 per month. If you want a Pixel 6 Pro, you’ll need to shell out $55 per month. Both subscriptions last for two years. If you decide you don’t like the Pixel Pass, you can cancel it at any time, and you’ll be liable for the remainder of the cost of your Pixel 6 phone.</p><h2 role="heading" aria-level="2">Is Pixel Pass a Good Value?</h2><p>In the blog post announcing the Pixel Pass, Google says that you can save over up to $294 over two years. That sounds like a lot of money, but it shakes out to only $12.25 per month. Google sells the phone itself for $24.96 per month. YouTube Premium (which includes YouTube Music Premium) sells for $11.99 per month. Google One with 200GB of storage costs $2.99 per month. Play Pass is $4.99, and Google’s Preferred Care extended warranty is $7 per month.</p><p>That would bring the total to $51.93 if you were to sign up for all of these services independently. That’s a $6.93 per month savings, which isn’t terrible but is hardly enough to make this a must-buy deal. Over two years, you’ll save $166. The savings Google quotes on the regular Pixel 6 are up to $176, which is the amount you’ll save with the slightly more expensive 256GB version.</p><div data-nosnippet="data-nosnippet"><span class="future_inline_clone_target">Advertisement<br /></span></div><p>You only get an upgrade every two years compared to Apple’s iPhone Upgrade Program, which offers an upgrade every year and even more monthly value. In the end, this seems like an acceptable deal for someone who wants all of Google’s services, but not necessarily one you need to line up to get.</p><h2 role="heading" aria-level="2">What About Google Fi?</h2><p>If you’re a Google Fi subscriber, the value is a little better, as you get all of the other subscriptions plus another $5 off your monthly phone bill. That does make it a little more appealing and worth signing up for, though it’s still not a deal that’ll blow you away.</p><p>You can add an additional $120 to the numbers quoted above, so if you go with the base model Pixel 6, you’ll save over $286 over two years, which is nothing to scoff at. The company revealed the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, and both phones come with solid specs and shockingly low price tags.</p><h2 role="heading" aria-level="2">Google Pixel 6</h2><p>The Pixel 6 comes with a solid 6.4″ screen with a 1080×2400 resolution. It has a refresh rate of up to 90Hz. In addition, the screen supports Always-on technology with At a Glance and Now Playing, which lets you see essential information without unlocking your phone.</p><p>Google touted the phone’s battery life, claiming that it would last more than 30 hours on a single charge with its 4614 mAh battery. The phone comes with 8GB LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB or 256GB storage, depending on which model you go with.</p><p>As this is a Pixel phone, it comes with a tremendous camera system, including a 50MP Octa PD Quad Bayer wide camera with a ƒ/1.85 aperture and a 12MP ultrawide camera with a ƒ/2.2 aperture. The front camera is an 8MP sensor with an ƒ/2.0 aperture. You can use the rear camera to record up to 4K resolution at 30 FPS or 60 FPS.</p><div data-nosnippet="data-nosnippet"><span class="future_inline_clone_target">Advertisement<br /></span></div><p>The phone comes with full support for 5G, so you’ll get the fastest data speeds if you have it available where you live.</p><h2 role="heading" aria-level="2">Pixel 6 Pro</h2><p>Google also announced a Pixel 6 Pro, which features some substantial upgrades over the more affordable Pixel 6 model. It bumps up the screen size to 6.7″ and brings the refresh rate to 120Hz. The resolution also gets a bump to 1440 x 3120.</p><p>The battery is a little bigger, which makes sense since the phone itself is larger. It’s 5003mAh and promises more than 24 hours of life on a single charge (though it could get over 30 hours in the right situations).</p><p>The Pixel 6 Pro comes with 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and Google’s Tensor processor.</p><p>Two of the lenses on the camera system are the same, but the Pro adds a 48 MP telephoto camera with an ƒ/3.5 aperture. Google also bumped up the selfie camera for the Pro, making it 11.1MP. The company makes a compelling case for upgrading to the higher-end phone between the better camera system, additional RAM, and better screen.</p><p>Both devices come with lots of new features that Google teased when it first revealed the phones including impressive security, the Magic Eraser, and lots more.</p><h2 role="heading" aria-level="2">New Pixel 6 Price and Availability</h2><p>Google definitely put some solid specs in the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, but the really attractive thing about them is the price. After all, if Apple wasn’t prepared to unleash it on testers, the company, which is known for its polish, certainly wouldn’t push it to a final build.</p><p>Unfortunately, Apple didn’t say exactly when we’d see the new feature, only saying that it’ll launch “later this fall.” That means it shouldn’t be too long, as Fall is only a few months long. Apple says it features 50% more airflow than previous generations. This should let the laptop stay cool while running as quietly as possible.</p><p>Both the 14″ and 16″ models drop the Touch Bar, which is a feature almost no one will miss. In its place sits physical function keys, which should make traditional laptop users happy.</p><p>Regardless of whether you go with the smaller or larger model, you’ll get a ridiculously powerful screen with your new MacBook Pro. The 16-inch model offers an expansive 16.2″ display with 7.7 million pixels. The 14″ model has a 14.2-inch active area and a total of 5.9 million pixels. All these malicious apps are distributed on the Web via fake websites that look similar to real sites.</p><p>Jagdeesh Chandraiah, a senior threat researcher at Sophos, said,</p><blockquote readability="8"><p>“Once they’ve made contact with a target, the attackers suggest continuing the conversation on a messaging platform. Also, these scams are done in the UK, where one of the victims lost $45,000. The scammer contacted him through Facebook. Another one lost $25,000 who was contacted through Grindr. Most of the scam is done with crypto investors only.</p><p>The researchers have warned the crypto investors to use verified trading sites that are available on Apple Store to be safe while doing the crypto transactions.</p></div><p>Cybercriminals support “Enterprise Signature,” it is a system for software developers who helps to pre-test the new iOS apps with selected iPhone users to review before submitting the official app.</p><p>With this functionality of Enterprise Signature, the attackers can target a huge group of iPhone users with fake crypto-trading apps and get control over their devices.</p><p>This means the attackers can not just steal cryptocurrency but can do a lot more things as they have control of your iPhone. We’ve undergone a thorough review of the information included in the files exposed and are confident that it only affected a small fraction of users and the customer impact is minimal. We are contacting those who have been impacted directly.”</em></p></blockquote><p>Twitch has <strong>reset all stream keys and has provided a link to get a new key.</strong> All the users need to manually update their software with a new key to stream.</p><p>As per the reports, around 125 gigabytes of data was leaked in the breach that contains details of the highest-paid video game streamers from 2019. Well, according to Twitch, user passwords weren’t included in the hack, so your account is safe.</p><p>Twitch posted on its blog about the security incident from October 6, 2021, and the company confirmed what the early reports suggested: creator payouts and some Twitch source code were stolen, but individual user information was kept safe.</p><p>In the post, Twitch said, “Twitch passwords have not been exposed. Now, it appears that Valve is banning games with blockchain, NFT, and cryptocurrency technology from its digital storefront.</p><p>As of October 15, 2021, Valve lists “Applications built on blockchain technology that issue or allow exchange of cryptocurrencies or NFTs” as items you “shouldn’t publish on Steam” on an official support page for game developers.</p><p>We checked on Archive.org for that same support page as of October 6, 2021, and the rule regarding blockchain, NFT, and cryptocurrency isn’t there. It’s a recent change to Valve’s developer documentation.</p><p>This policy change came to light when SpacePirate Games, the developer of <em>Age of Rust</em> (a game that offers NFTs), tweeted that Valve would be kicking existing blockchain games off the Steam platform:</p><blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true" readability="11.272206303725"><p lang="en" dir="ltr" xml:lang="en">Community: A few minutes ago, we were notified that @Steam will be kicking *all blockchain games* off the platform, including Age of Rust, because NFTs have value. However, Call of Duty’s Ricochet anti-cheat system is installing low-level drivers to Windows PCs, which might be going a little further than most users would prefer.</p><p>The cheat system for <em>Call of Duty: Warzone</em> and <em>Call of Duty: Vanguard</em> uses multiple layers to catch cheaters, and it sounds like it’ll work quite well. A team of professionals and machine learning algorithms work in tandem with the kernel-level drivers that detect even the most complicated cheating methods.</p><p>“Cheating in Call of Duty is frustrating for players, developers, and the entire community,” said Activision in a blog post.</p><p>The issue, though, comes down to privacy. The non-optional cheat system with the kernel-level driver will arrive when the Pacific map update launches later this year, and it will make its way to <em>Call of Duty: Vanguard</em> at a later date. This type of anti-cheat system is becoming a trend, which means gamers now have a slew anti-cheat of drivers installed on their PC from various games. <em>Apex Legends</em> uses Easy Anti-Cheat, which is a similar anti-cheat system. The same goes for <em>Fortnite</em>. <em>Valorant</em> has implemented a custom kernel-level driver with a decent level of success.</p><p>There are so many multiplayer games out there where cheating could be an issue, and having all of them running their own drivers for anti-cheat isn’t a great solution.</p><p><strong>RELATED:</strong> <strong><em>Before Fortnite, There Was ZZT: Meet Epic's First Game</em></strong></p><p>Fighting cheaters requires a game of cat and mouse between the cheaters and game developers, and for smaller game companies, having a whole team dedicated to tackling cheating just isn’t feasible, so they have to turn to a third party like Easy Anti-Cheat. And that would be fine if Easy Anti-Cheat was the industry standard, but with larger developers like Riot and Activision using their own custom kernel-level drivers, that isn’t the case.</p><p>The obvious solution is something at the OS level from Microsoft, which the company briefly tried and gave up on in Windows 10. Having a single driver at the operating system level would remove the need for gamers to have tons of them installed on their PC. It could also let small developers outsource the manpower required to maintain an anti-cheat system to Microsoft (for a fee, of course).</p><p>Will any of this solve cheating? Only time will tell if they’re able to find a crack that gets around the new system, even with it installed as a driver. The company says that Tensor “enables us to make the Google phones we’ve always envisioned.”</p><p>While we know Google is going to use its own chip in the Pixel 6, the company didn’t reveal much about the actual specs of the chip, so we’ll have to wait until the big event on September 19, 2021, to learn more about what it brings to the table for processing power.</p><p>We’ve already learned a bit about the screens on the devices. According to The Verge, the Pro has a 6.7-inch QHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The Pixel 6 will come with a 6.4-inch FHD+ screen with a 90Hz refresh rate.</p><p>We also discovered that the phone would have three cameras, but we didn’t learn the actual specs of the lenses. With Google focusing on the quality of the cameras for its Pixel devices, we expect the company to put a heavy focus on them at the event as well.</p><p>It’s a bit different to go into an event like this already knowing the two primary devices that’ll be on display, but it’ll be interesting to see what details Google still wants to show off.</p><h2 role="heading" aria-level="2">What Else Will Google Announce?</h2><p>Outside of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, there’s a lot of speculation that Google will announce a foldable Pixel device. Unfortunately, Google has been extremely quiet regarding a folding phone, so we’ll have to wait and see if the company has something to announce in that regard.</p><p>Besides devices, the company will likely let us know when Android 12 will launch on Pixel devices. The prominent feature that stands out is the customized GNOME 40 desktop, but there’s a lot to be intrigued by.</p><p>With Ubuntu 21.10’s version of GNOME 40, instead of seeing the Activities View when you log in, you’ll see your usual desktop, just like previous versions of Ubuntu, which should create a more comfortable experience.</p><p>Of course, you can still access the Activities View, which is a critical part of the GNOME 40 experience.</p><p>There’s a lot new in GNOME 40 that the latest version of Ubuntu takes advantage of. Microsoft said that it wouldn’t provide updates to Windows 11 users on unsupported computers, but it turns out the company has released its most recent patches, though that may not happen in the future.</p><p>Microsoft said that unsupported PCs wouldn’t be entitled to updates, but it didn’t specifically say that they wouldn’t be able to download them despite a lack of entitlement. Microsoft had its first Patch Tuesday since the Windows 11 launch, and while the update may have made the issues with AMD processors worse, people with unsupported PCs could download and install them on their PCs.</p><p>Many people speculated that Microsoft would end up offering the updates to unsupported computers, and the company was just saying people wouldn’t be entitled to cover itself from a legal standpoint so it could withhold them if it wanted to.</p><p>Before you go out and install Windows 11 on an unsupported PC, thinking you’ll receive updates forever, keep in mind that Microsoft could decide to withhold updates at any time since the company did say that unsupported PCs wouldn’t be entitled to updates. That leaves the door open for Microsoft to stop updating those PCs, which could leave them open to security issues and other problems.</p><p>Of course, we’re not saying to avoid Windows 11 on unsupported PCs.
