Happy Shivaratri to all friends and family. The Kashmiri Pandit Diaspora continues to observe Herath with pomp and piety, Vatukh was set up and worshipped in many a families.
Memories of how it was done back home, in Kashmir still linger with all of us. The new generation is going to learn not only about the significance of the fesitival but the reverence and love of a Pandit for Shiva and Parvati. With strength from Shiva, Kashmiri Pandits bear the brunt of the wrath of a lost people, the muslims of Pakistan and Kashmir, a people who are confused with their identity of faith and nationality.
Hertath will always bring benediction on the ardent worshippers of Shiva.

Summers in India's heaven: Kashmir

How the summers remind me of trips to the valley of Kashmir.
Walks in dense poplar forests, rivulets humming in the background, mighty mountains watching over us all the time. Oh the smells of the apple orchards , the apricot groves, the blossoming flowers.
The summer weddings, the pilgrimages, the sleepovers. Summer was time to be in the peaceful valley of Kashmir.
But each summer now, only memories remain, I can ski in Keystone, Colorado, or see the Cherry blossoms in DC, or go boating in the finger lakes, but everything and everybody enveloping you in one empowering embrace of belonging is still amiss.

The president said to get more education as your name gets added to the unemployed list,
But what about those who have at least two graduate degrees already? What about those with doctorates?

As students graduate from colleges around the country, where are the jobs for them? What incentive do they have to get higher education?

Money is being funneled to already funded be it banks or universities. The have's have it all and the have not's have only hope.

We still await the change

It is a wonderful feeling to see young students enter college and metamorphose into energetic ambitious young adults. Like a mother watching her chicks take flight from the nest, A proud college teacher looks at the graduates walk away with honors and diploma with their confident strides into the path they chose.

I am eager to meet my new class of 40+ students. Will they be a talkative bunch , a quiet bunch , a lazy bunch , a curious bunch or a little of all and much more.
How many would be doctors, scientists or educators will I have in my class?
Bio1 is their entrance to biosciences,I hope to keep them motivated to continue with what I like the most , getting to know how we function.

SUMMER SPECIAL

Finally the days start early and last tilllate. It is warm and bright. Time to feel the nature'e elemnt the sun's glaring heat that caresses your skin and reminds of its prowess. You seek the shade of a bloosomed tree. Green is the color you see all around. Birds are chirping away at this bright season.
Well this is when the kids will have npo school and will n ot be bored ever since free time is so hard to come by.

Memories will be made in the summer that will last a lifetime.

How do you transfer the zest to learn to the new college students? How do you instill in them, that their prosperity will ensue when they think of the progress of their community, city and country?How do you fill the youth with a sense of moral integrity? How do you teach them to appreciate that time fleets by ever so persistently and can never be used again? How do you tell them to live a life to give? How do you bring them to appreciate the differences between a generation past and yet be themselves, the youth still? How do you tell them that they will find love if they give love?
