The Cartoon: Bino & Fino African Educational DVD

Kids for some ungodly reason means early mornings and even more distressing is the run of the mill kids TV, So this morning I was delighted to have a rest from the hyper loudly dressed kids telly presenters by watching Bino & Fino an African educational cartoon made in Nigeria.

Brother and sister team Bino & Fino have great adventures with the help of their friends, I was sent the DVD which has several colourful episodes in which the bespectacled Bino and afro puff rocking Fino learn about Nigerian Independence Day, enjoy fruit salad and try their hand a making a snail soup! Freya is only now starting to have a little bit of an attention span for cartoons and she managed to watch one full episode before getting distracted. But the mix of bright drawing mixed with real photography would keep older children entertained for the full DVD I'm sure (and adults)

The DVD is available to buy now and a full series is in production for the end of 2013, the show has already been broadcast in the UK on Sky and in South Africa. Not to worry if the show doesn't air where you are, like I said you can buy the DVD or check out Bino & Fino's great YouTube channel (I now know how to count to ten in Yoruba!)

The ACV Shampoo Bar foamed up well without much fuss, so for those who like to work up a lather when shampooing this may be for you. I follows this up with my usually styling method of leave in conditioner (TRESseme Naturals) and Coconut Oil mixed with a little Eco Styler Gel. I definitely noticed a difference in my hair regarding my curlies, this is one of my best wash n go's

Wearing a CC cream that is apparently self adjusting

It's been one of those morning, I have ranted and raved over this subject for quite some time Makeup shades for women of colour. Lets start at the very beginning......Yesterday I found this the image below on tumblr the image sparked my usual kiss teet but the comments below really caught my eye (all credit for '50 shades of Beige' go to thescienceofchic lol) I re posted the picture today on my Instagram and was not shocked by the comments coming in from people in Italy, Australia, Spain, Germany........all saying the same thing were the hell is my shade ? So here is my open letter to those 'forgetful' cosmetics brands.

Dear Leading High Street (drug store) Cosmetics Brands

Do you only cater for people with light skin ? I only ask because when I visit my local store I am under represented, that is if I am represented at all. I can pick from shades of porcelain, vanilla, beige, tan, medium tan, real medium tan......and caramel. So much choice and variation if you are the right side tan. Though I may not be the majority I am a consumer and I exist (in living colour!) if your brand is not for me might I suggest a 'whites only' sign at every counter, archaic I know but its what your counters appear to be saying across the world.

I have the right to choice like any other, and should not be pigeon-holed, I should not have to rely on ordering my make up online or spending considerably more than my fairer counterparts who can pick up a foundation, BB or CC cream (or any must have 'essential')l for under £10 from any store I desire.

I've posted numerous times on this issue, I have had many industry insiders giving me many reasons why I am ignored by your brand, I understand sales, profits, and supply and demand but what I don't understand is why as a consumer I don't exist to you ? or if I do exist It is only in one or two instances. Why does my brown money not appeal to you ? A full spectrum of colours should be a basic requirement when creating a line of cosmetics, a spectrum that caters for a cross section of society. I'm not saying you must match every single shade known to man, but one brown shade in a collection of 12-15 just isn't good enough I'm afraid. Nor is using a brown face to sell your cosmetics because they are currently popular yet the alleged shade that the model/celebrity wears is not available.

So I'm not going to shrug and just head to the lip glosses, eyes shadows and lipsticks that are more universal. If my brown money is not good enough for you to cater for, than you can keep your lipstick and your nail polish if you don't cater for ALL you don't cater to ME.

Guess that doesn't leave me with much choice, I'm either going to be out of pocket or barefaced. Drug store brands are not the only culprits, high end brands also leave a lot to be desired as well as natural eco brands. We can argue the statistics of there being no demand for darker shades with them often being discontinued, but if we are not made aware of these shades how are we suppose to purchase them. The term 'perfect match' is added to pretty much all foundation these days and it very rarely is unless you are willing to pay £20+ for a 'leading' brand or play ashy face roulette with the internet

Maybe my little stand, doesn't stand for very much at all, but it IS time to be the change we want to see in the beauty industry, if they don't cater for us lets cater for ourselves. brands like Anita Grant (who has recently launched a mineral foundation line Hello Beautiful) have already started doing this. You will eventually find your shade through research, trail and error (or just mixing and matching) but personally I really don't think we should have too.

The Clay: Moroccan Rhassoul Clay

I finally found the time to use my Rhassoul clay (300g at £8.70) from the Sheabutter Cottage,

Rhassoul is a mineral-rich clay from Morocco. It's different from other cleansing clays, as it is very gentle and beneficial for dry hair and sensitive skin and scalp. this clay is found in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco.

I used the clay on my hair and face and found the results great! I used the methods suggested by Akua Wood, (I have added extracts from her 'how to' below) I used the Rhassoul clay for my hair and as a face pack, as suggested I did not use a conditioner after using the clay on my hair which felt odd but I actually didn't miss the conditioner. I aired dried my hair until it was almost dry then I used a blow dryer as I wanted a stretched out big hair look. (I used coconut oil to seal when my hair was damp but no leave in conditioner) My hair feels very soft and my scalp feels so fresh!

Mostly I'm loving the effects the clay has had on my skin after just one application my face feels divine when removing the clay I could feel the moisture from the clay on my skin which felt great! I'll definitely be adding the clay into skincare regimen from now on!

B E N E F I T S

Completely non-irritating to skin and scalp

Cleans skin and hair without removing all of its protective sebum

Removes surface oil and oil from inside and around comedones (blackheads and whiteheads)

Leaves hair soft and shiny and enhances its volume

Gradually reduces the need for frequent hair washing

HAIR

To make rhassoul mud for your hair, you will need:

50g of rhassoul, more if your hair is very long, less if you have short hair. Put the rhassoul into a

bowl and add 50mg of tepid water, which should be enough to cover the pieces. Don’t attempt to

stir the mixture at this stage, simply leave it to stand for a full 5 minutes or until the water is absorbed.

You will then find it easy to stir the mixture into a smooth paste, adding a little more tepid water if

necessary.

Apply the rhassoul mud to dry or damp hair. Work it through your hair and massage well into your

scalp.

For dry hair, leave on for 5-10 minutes.

For normal hair, leave on for up to 5-15 minutes.

For oily hair, it can be left on for 10-20 minutes.

Rinse thoroughly, then towel dry. Ideally, allow your hair to finish drying naturally

FACE

To make a face or body pack, including a foot pack for smoothing dry skin, follow the same

method as described above. Always think in terms of an equal figure of grammes and millilitres – for

example, 10g of rhassoul mixed with 10g of water; 100g of rhassoul mixed with 100g of water, and

so on. You will probably need extra water which can be mixed in after the rhassoul has swelled.

Face packs are normally left on the skin for 5-15 minutes, before rinsing thoroughly with warm water.

You might follow this treatment with a spritz of rosewater to tone and refresh. Body packs can be

left on for 20-40 minutes and then rinsed off under a warm shower or in the bath.

FACIAL CLEANSER AND EXFOLIANT

Rhassoul is a great exfoliant and skin softener. The same rhassoul paste that you mix for your hair

can be used as a daily cleanser and skin polisher. For this purpose you may wish to mix a slightly

thinner paste the consistency of a cleansing lotion. Massage it gently into damp skin using circular

movements and then rinse. The paste will remove most make-up (except perhaps stubborn

waterproof mascara) and will leave your skin feeling velvety.

I usually like to use a skincare product a few times before I review but due to the instance result this mask claims to give I have used once and have pictured my results above. I can definitely see a difference in my skin it looks slightly more glowy but the real difference is in the feel of my skin after using the mask, I have moisture for days! which is rare as I find masks can often draw the moisture out of my skin. I wasn't in love with the the tingly feeling the mask gave my skin after a few minutes and this mask is not recommended for those with sensitive skin. Thinking Outside The Beauty Box

Another day another beauty subscription box, the box market is becoming ridiculously over saturated, with practically a box for everything and every taste. I'm not quite sold on the box craze, I've had some rather sketchy experience with Glossy Box allegedly one of the leading boxes, whom have the worst customer service I have ever come across and companies that boxes never actually materialise. That being said I've also had some good boxes from the likes of Birchbox.

The idea of beauty subscription boxes work well in theory, a selection of usually (4-6) product samples arrive monthly at your door for around £10-12, great for bloggers and beauty junkies. but the problem I have found with many of the boxes is consistency ....I have heard of so many instances of receiving a box with full sized products and the next box is basically six sachets of body conditioner and shampoo.

add to that, wait lists and dodgy shipping it smacks of an industry in it's infancy which is expanding far to quickly. With all these new boxes popping up it's hard to separate the good from the down right crappy!

So for a box to have peeked my interest, It really has to be bringing something a little different to the table, which is why I subscribed to new box BeautEco, which uses sustainable methods when it comes to packaging (it's 100% recyclable) and shipping, BeautEco also has a range of naturally derived samples. Like I said I'm not 100% sold on the subscription box craze but I'm open to having my mind changed........

It's funny, the term wash n go implies that it is a speedy process, It should be re named, wash, condition seal, smooth with gel n go! I love the look of defined curls especially on this cut but I'll be damned if I become a slave to curl definition so today I skipped the Eco Styler in favour of a simple co wash (TRESemme Naturals, leave in (Bamboo Milk) & seal (coconut oil)

I used Bamboo Milk from the Sheabutter Cottage it's a light leave in that can also be used as a daily hair refresher, I was sceptical as hair milks are often to light for my hair but this was just the right consistency (I found it relatively thick for a hair milk)

Hi Natural belles, my name is Wunmi, a London born and breed Nigeria, who is a fanatic of all things beauty, fashion and natural hair related. How long have you been natural?
I went natural for the second time back in December 2009, so just over 3 years now. I first attempted to go natural back when I was 15, I lasted till I was 21 so had a good stint at it. I wore my hair in fancy canerow (cornrow) for the last year of secondary school and upgraded to kinky extensions and ponytails during college. A lot of people didn't actually realise it wasn't my hair till the last few weeks of college. I matured into a full fro and rocked that for the first year of uni. I then started to experiment with heat, weaves would and get my hair pressed about every two weeks. Brazillian was in and the fro was out. As well has having to blend my hair with the weave, I felt I had to blend myself in with the other girls that attended the uni. Fast forward to fried, dyed and a badly relaxed head of hair is was time to start a hair journey. I was on a quest for healthy hair and to get my edges back. I embarked on a health hair journey mid 2009, but relaxed then just decided one morning I wanted it all gone.

How did you transition, did you big chop?
I did the Big Chop and had about 1/4 inch of hair left to work with

What were the main reasons for your choice to wear your natural hair?
I decided to go natural because I was tired of looking generic, the same as everyone else. I have always been one to stand out and was tired of my hair never seeming to grow past a certain length. I craved healthier longer hair, for me I could not achieve that being relaxed. It's not until I actual did the Big Chop that I started to think about the true reasons why I relaxed and straightened my hair in the first place.

What are your earliest hair memories? How did these memories influence your hair journey today?
My earliest memories of my hair care are actually quite humorous... I have a real laugh when me and my mum talk about my hair as a child. My mum experimented a lot with my hair as a child, yet my hair was ALWAYS untidy because I used to always pull out all my hair accessories. Now this would get on my mum nerves as she would have spend ages trying to make it look neat... The one vivid memory I have though is having my hair Jeri Curled, around 4 or 5, for a wedding I had been invited to be a flower girl for. The Jeri Curl was big back then. I can't recall if it was a home job or a salon job, but my hair started to fall out a couple of days after the wedding. My mum decided it was best to just chop it all off to keep it one level as it looked a hot mess. I was distraught... Jason Donovan was the it star at the time and I loved him. To stop the tears, mum told me she was giving me a JD cut, that's how he wore his hair and it was the latest trend. Now that instantly made me feel better, I think I even help cut the remaining hair off... Looking back at the pictures, after the cut, I looked like a little boy with earrings lol... We laugh about it now... My mum wore her hair natural, short and dyed for the most part of my earlier life and I thought she was just the most beautiful woman ever. She taught me to not take hair so seriously that it doesn't define who you are, by her just being her and doing her own thing

What does having natural hair mean to you?
Being natural for me symbolizes the acceptance of the features that God gave me. Learning to love and accept them in their entirety.

How do you keep your hair looking so good?
I cleanse my hair once a week, normally on a Saturday morning, with either a Belle Vie shampoo bar or the Curls Cleansing cream. The Curls Line smells AMAZING. I deep condition after every cleanse and reach for any DC that I have in stock. There is no particular DC that I am wowed by at the moment and the one that I do use regularly do an equal job. I am some what in love with the Curl Coconut Sublime, which is a rinse out conditioner that gives an instant shot of moisture to the hair. I always use a leave-in condition before styling as I wear a lot of wash & gos and do not use a moisturiser per say. My leave-ins of choice are the aphogee liquid leave-in or the Kera Care Natural Textures leave-in. They both do an excellent job of keeping the hair hydrated. I normally lightly seal with castor oil to lock the moisture in before applying my chosen style on top.

What are your go to products?
Well, I currently have a love affair with the Uncle Funky's Daughter Curly Magic and can't seem to get enough of the stuff. I achieve amazing curl definition with zero crunch when I use this product. Castor oil is my go to oil and I feel quite panicked when I am nearly out. It has the effect of making my hair feel and look silky smooth giving a great shine to any style.

What are your go to hair styles?
Now that's an easy one, The wash & Go. With my hair being so short, at the moment that is pretty much the extent of my styling. Before my 2nd BC I would also do twists and look forward to more length so I can 're-visit this. I pretty much like my hair to be FREE

How do you protect your hair in the winter months?
Aside from moisturising a little more, I don't really switch up my styling that much in winter. Last winter I wore a lot of buns, but more so out of convenience than because the season changed.

What hair styles will you wear this summer?
I'm going to be experiment a lot with wigs and weaves as my hair is a bit too short to really play around with. This will definitely give me the opportunity to also play with colour without having to dye my own hair.

What is your biggest hair wow?
Discovering what worked for me and being able to style my hair in a short amount of time as a result

What is your biggest hair fail?
I don't really have a fail, but a set back would be the breakage issues that I had with my nape have been a major setback in my journey. It was one of the contributing factors to my second BC. I ditched the scarves and now just use a satin pillow case. My hair is growing back there nicely

Do you have any advice for women starting out on their natural hair journey?
My advice would be to go natural for the right reasons that are personal to you and not because everyone else is doing it. Going natural is certainly not easy and takes a lot of dedication to learning your new hair. Not everyone will be in your corner when you make your decision, so surround yourself with supportive people.

The Park: Fun in the Sun

Freya has been loving this uncharacteristic good weather in the UK, Freya is 7 months now, so she can now wear sunscreen, our whole family use Aubrey Organics Natural Sun SPF 30+ Freya uses unscented which is ideal for sensitive skin, the rest of us use the Green Tea rich formula. though she is only in direct sunlight for short periods of time, sun screen is important to protect babies sensitive skin even in the shade, as shade only partially protects against UV rays, Freya also has a selection of funky sun hats! The DIY: Whipped Hair Butter Fail

Not sure how to classify today's DIY mix, I guess it's a semi whipped balm (or a whipped butter that went wrong)

3/4 of cup Shea butter

1/3 cup of coconut butter

1/2 tbs Olive Oil

1 tbs Castor Oil

This suppose to be a light fluffy butter for my hair, however I think I was either very inpatient with the whisking or too enthusiastic with the oils, I whipped for a really long time, but it hardly turned at all I used the same method with this butter as I did the whipped body butter earlier in the week, however the outcome wasn't as good.....and I've ended up with what looks like a balm rather than a butter.

I will still work as it was intended to seal in moisture as the ingredients work regardless of what form they are in...however I'm going to be sparing with this as it is super heavy (I think the castor oil was a bad idea!) this will teach me to experiment before I have the basics down!

The DIY: Flaxseed Gel

My journey into DIY product making is getting rather exciting, I've been keeping it very simple (as I have NEVER made products before) and this evening I tried my hand at making Flaxseed Gel.

I'm dedicated to my ECOstyler gel, however after reading the great benefits of Flaxseed Gel I had to give it a go.

B E N E F I T S

Rich in Omega 3, Flaxseed also promotes hair growth as it contains phyto-estrogens, which may balance hormones so great for post natal hair fall,. Flaxseed Gel gives great curl definition, adds moisture and shine to hair with drying or flaking!

R E C I P E

1/2 cup of Organic Golden Lindseed (flaxseed)

2 cups of water

1 tbs of Aloe Vera Gel (great for added moisture)

Essential Oil (optional)

U T E N S I L S

Pan

Fine mesh strainer or stockings

Wood spoon

Bowl or jug

Sterile air tight jar

H O W T O

Add 2 cups of water and half a cup of flaxseed in a bowl on a low/medium heat

bring to a simmer and stir though out making sure the seed don't stick to the bottom of the pan (the consistency should turn a egg white like froth)

pour your the mixture into the strainer and push through (tights are probably easier to use)

you should be left with a bowl full of gel you can then add your Aloe Vera Gel and an essential oil of your choice.

you can use the gel straight away for wash and go's, sleek styles or twist outs or decant into an air tight jar and refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.

You can also keep the used flaxseed to use again in the refrigerator

Making the Flaxseed gel was quite easy, but a bit messy and tricky to get through the strainer and it really doesn't look great (I have flashbacks of Cameron Diaz in There's Something About Mary!) But I've heard it works wonders can't wait to try it in a few days in place of my ECOStyler.

The Nails: My Hand & Nail Care

It's been a while since I have had time to have a proper manicure, with miss Freya on constant destruction mode manicures have slipped down the two do list. So I have had to find ways to make my hands reasonably presentable as quickly as possible. I'm currently using Viridians Organic Nail and Cuticle oil (£12.95) which I rub into my nails twice daily (after my shower and before bed) the oils strengthens your nails and helps them grow. I'm also loving the Award winning Rose Otto Hand Cream (£14.50) from Balance Me, rich with Shea butter, the hand cream is said to have anti-aging properties, so hopefully if I start using it now by the time I'm 50 my hands will still be 30 (the hands and neck never lie!) I'm also SO over nail art, mostly due to time constraints, but also I think it become a bit over played so I'm currently rocking nudes, pastels and grey nails, I love Tenderness by Chanel, I treated my self to it a while ago (tip for when you feel like shit! go buy the cheapest item from a leading fashion house and get them to wrap it up all nice works every time!) It's a great polish because I find it dries really face and stays glossy without top coat.

R E C I P E

1 tbs honey

2 beaten egg yolks

¼ cup milk.

Use a medium bowl to mix all these into a paste. Then soak your nails in the mixture for 10-15 minutes. After the time is up wash your hands off with lukewarm water. The different antioxidant agents will heal the damages and provide the nails with the perfect care. The calcium from the milk as well as the protein from the eggs will strengthen the nails making them resistant to any deterioration (MORE HANDY RECIPES HERE)

The Oil: Coconut Oil

Coconut oil has some very unique properties which make it ideal for use in the hair. It's is great at reconstructing protein an sealing in moisture. Coconut oil repels water from the air but is light weight Coconut Oil also binds with your hairs natural protein structure, retaining it's moisture content and making your hair fibres stronger, it also prevents protein loss and reduces hair porosity which makes it a wonderful oil for us colour treated naturals

"(coconut oil) has the ability to strengthen the structure of damaged, devitalized hair by lubricating and softening the hair shaft by re-mineralising the hair with magnesium, potassium, calcium, and iron" source

You can use coconut oil as a pre poo and leave over night, it's also great for skin and I found it a dab hand at removing make up! I picked up Tiana Organic Coconut Butter with added Hempseed Oil (known to enhance development of keratin) from Holland & Barrett and I plan to whip it with added essential oils

1/2 cup coconut oil

1 tablespoon Castor Oil

2 tablespoons Aloe Vera Gel

15-30 drops of Vanilla Essential Oil

Whip oil at room temperature with a hand held whisk

The D I Y: Whipped Orange & Chocolate Body Butter

After yesterdays visit to the Sheabutter Cottage I have been excited to start making some DIY products for hair and body, first on my list was a very simple whipped body (or hair) butter,

I N G R E D I E N T S

1/2 cup of unrefined Cocoa Butter

1/2 cup of of unrefined Shea Butter

15-30 drops of Vanilla pure essential oil

15-30 drops of Orange pure essential oil

3 TBS of pure Safflower Oil

I purchased everything bar the Safflower Oil (from Holland & Barrett) from the Sheabutter Cottage

U T E N S I L S

Hand Held whisk

Wooden spoon

Metal mixing bowl

Sterile Jars (pop them in the micro wave for 8 minutes to sterile make sure that are microwave proof)

scales or average sized cup

H O W TO

Bring a pan of water to the boil, fill it half way (you can pop the metal bowl on top to ensure the water level is right, it should not quite touch the bowl)

Whilst the water is boiling measure out your Shea and Cocoa Butter

Once the water is boiled place the metal bowl on top of the pan creating a bain-marie (using a bain-marie will stop the cocoa butter from burning out and loosing it's smell)

Put the cocoa butter into the bowl first and melt down until completely liquefied

Then add the shea butter which should be at room temperature mix together until liquefied

You can now add you safflower oil, and essential oils

GIVE IT A GOOD STIR!

remove the bowl from the pan and cool for a minute or two

THEN WHISK!

for what seems like forever but is actually only 20 minutes, your mixture will turn milky after about 10 minutes then thick and creamy after 20 minutes (bit like a meringue)

I hindsight I would liked to have used a piping bag to decant my butter but I didn't have one so I spooned my mixure into a sterile container

The butter it self is light and fluffy and smells just like a Terry's Chocolate Orange!

Cocoa butter is one of the most highly concentrated and stable fats available and has been used for thousands of years in skin care items and of course, chocolate. The benefits of cocoa butter for preventing bad stretch marks during pregnancy are well-known. The Vitamin E in cocoa butter promotes the skin’s elasticity, minimizing the formation and appearance of scar tissue. Also, cocoa butter contains cocoa mass polyphenol or CMP which helps stop production of immunoglobulin that worsens skin conditions like eczema. [SOURCE]

 O R A N G E  O I L

Orange essential oil is shown to promote the production of collagen as well as increase the blood flow to the skin. It is helpful at soothing dry, irritated skin as well as acne-prone skin. It is excellent for rubbing on calluses on the feet. [SOURCE]

V A N I L L A O I L

Since it is a powerful antioxidant, vanilla essential oil is used for skin care as well. A few drops of vanilla oil when added to any face pack prevent damage of the skin cells, due to the toxic action of pollutants and toxins. [SOURCE]

S A F F L O W E R O I L

Safflower oil contains a high amount of linoleic acid, a natural posturing agent. Linoleic acid is an essential fatty acid found in plants, fish oil, meat and dairy products. It is a necessary nutrient and helps maintain elasticity in the skin by removing flaky, dry skin and enabling the skin to retain moisture. Safflower oil does not clog the pores, making it suitable for sensitive skin. [SOURCE]

The DIY: Faux BB Cream

BB cream is an all-in-one facial cosmetic product it's usually marketed as a serum, moisturiser primer, foundation, and sunblock in one. most brands have their own version of the BB cream which stands for Blemish Balm usually they come in the usual white - tan shades (though brands like Bobbie Brown have more shades to choose from) A lot of the drug store brands don't have the best ingredients or shade options so I figured I would try my hand at making my own version of the BB cream.

I used up my Hello Beautiful Mineral Make Up and I mixed with a moisturiser, I used a make up lid to mix a few sprinkles of Hello Beautiful Foundation in Gatteau au chocolate, with Madara Deep Moisture Fluid for normal to combination skin because it is light weight and has great ingredients for supple, firm skin.

I added some Balance Me Radiance Oil for added moisture.

A lot of the moisturisers on the market have a lot of combinations for your skin needs, such as anti ageing serum and SPF which are similar to what BB creams offer. The Anita Grant Mineral Foundation mixes well with creams and is a great idea if you are not to handy with a brush as the faux BB can be applied with a make up sponge. you still get the reflective element from the Mineral Foundation which helps to bounce light off any uneven skin. and just add more if you want more coverage. Mines more of a tinted moisturiser than a BB cream but you can add whatever products work for you, for instance add Monistat chafing gel if you want the primer element that BB creams give which helps the cream to go on smoothly with a matte finish and use a moisturiser with sun screen.

The Cottage: Sheabutter Cottage Visit + Haul

I had such a wonderful day at the Sheabutter Cottage, based in Sonning, Reading you would never guess that on a little farm (like a real farm with cows!) sits a little natural hair and skin haven. Akua Wood has a great set up at the cottage I got to meet her helpers and see where everything happens! the cottage is fantastic I think I pee'd a little with excitement! I can not believe that Akua mixes, moulds and whips all the products I found.

The Sheabuter Cottage has a great array of raw and pre blended products, since I've vowed to start doing some DIY product making I picked up a few essential and plan to make some lovely butters for hair and body. I went a bit mad actually and brought A LOT of stuff...but everything looked sooooo good!

Moringa and neem soap, Monoi Soap, Agave Deep Conditioner, Organic Rosehip Oil, Vanilla and Orange essential oil, Marula Hair Balm, Bamboo leave in conditioner and Tucuma hair butter (I will review all of these products eventually)

Sheabutter Cottage source much of their raw ingredients like sheabutter, cocoabutter, unrefined coconut oil, African black soap and palm kernel oil directly from farmer co-operatives in Ghana and are of the finest quality.

I made my first ever D I Y beauty treatment, a really simple skin scrub, great for lips, face and body using contents of your kitchen cupboard.

The Hair Wash

Hair wash day! it's a lot easier now I have shorter hair and now that I have gotten into the groove of this new style. I've been wearing my hair in a turban for the last few days because I've been giving my hair a deeeeeeeeeeeeep condition, by mixing Deep Treatment Masque from Shea Moisture and Jamaican Black Castor Oil, I warmed it up in the microwave for a hot oil style treatment and it works very well.

I left it for 24 hours and my hair was super soft and didn't dry out when I did a deep cleanse with Africa Black Soap, which really cleans you hair and I find it feels hard on hair unless I pre poo (pre shampoo)

I conditioned with the Shea Moisture Restorative Conditioner which I left in and seal/styled using Haitian Black Castor Oil and Eco Styler Gel which made a type of custard. The Haitian castor oil has the same benefits as the Jamaican castor oil but I found it lighter so perfect for mixing with my gel, (mixing oil with gel helps to rid the dreaded crunchy hair with loosing definition and hold)
