In the manga and anime Neon Genesis Evangelion, the EVAs are mecha piloted by Rei Ayanami, Shinji Ikari and Asuka Langley. The EVAs were allegedly created by NERV to defend Tokyo-3 from the threat of the Angels. The EVAs were designed by Ikuto Yamashita and series director Hideaki Anno.

Although they appear to be giant humanoid robots, the Evas are actually semicibernéticos, integrating a biological with mechanical infrastructure, flexible polymer and armor.This armor is almost impenetrable for the ordinary weapons, but have different levels of effectiveness against the attacks of the Angels.

Evangelion Mass Production (MP) (units 05 to 13)

Unit is shown hanging upside down on a pool of purple light, the helmet looks like a horn of Units 01 and 06, and although it only shows the upper body, which is seen to have a kind of drive in traditional vertical shoulder, presumably because of its shape that has legs, not the unit 06. The armor of this unit has more mechanical appearance, without even knowing why. As shown in dark color of this unit is unclear.No one knows if you have a pilot.

Evangelion Unit 06 (Rokugōki)

Shown sparingly in Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance, Unit 06 is mostly dark blue and gray, with small parts oranges. Its hull is similar to unit 01, with the horn that extended upward and lateral identical, but with a red visor for eyes. This unit is a design produced by Seele, and as a result appears to be able to levitate and act without umbilical cord (although it is unknown how long);is believed that the aura that is visible on his horn is the one that generates energy, although it is unknown how. As seen in the second movie of Rebuild of Evangelion a new version of the unit 05 is shown, being defined as "provisional." It has a dark green color orange sides and a white torso mostly minor parts in orange and gray.Appearance has mechanical arms and a clamp and a spear instead of hands. The classic rectangular shoulders high in the EVA are present, but they have this time a kind of antennas that can be used for energy by contact, making it without umbilical cord. The head of the unit has a gray helmet with a large lump on his forehead, below the orange which has a visor over his eyes, and mandible (when exposed) are distinguished metal teeth. Evangelion Unit 03 Sangōki (参号)

Built in the First Branch of NERV located in Massachusetts, USA. Unit 03 is one of the two units built with the Second Production Model Design (ie, following the model of EVA-02, but standardized).It is the sister unit of Evangelion Unit 04. The Angel came when the Commander Ikari was giving explanations to the Committee about why SEELE used the Spear of Longinus from the fifteenth Angel. The angel appeared from nowhere on the outskirts of Tokyo-3 and was floating and rotating on the valley with its AT field Ohwakudani active. Its wave pattern changed from blue to orange, which seemed to indicate that their shape may change.

NERV sent to both the EVA-02 and the EVA-00 to intercept. Once the unit approached 00, Armisael adopted its form of combat, through the AT field of 00 and its core unit, and beginning to merge with the EVA. Meanwhile, mental contact with Rei, expressing his desire to merge and forcing her to feel his pain, Rei identified as loneliness. When ordered to help Rei, Asuka could not even move, because their level of synchronization was less than 10%, so it was withdrawn from combat.

Gendo, apparently desperate to save Rei, Unit 01 ordered removed from quarantine when he was after his battle with Zeruel, to fight against the Angel.

When powered unit 01 AT field attracted the other end of Angel, which began to invade. The invasion was partly physical and partly mental. Shinji cut the Angel with his progressive knife, which caused the angel to become first in a being that looked like a mix of some previous Angeles and then in a kind of white Rei EVA-sized.

To prevent the Angel merged with the EVA-01, Rei reversed its AT field, catching the Angel within the core of the unit 00. She self-destructed after the EVA, killing and destroying the unit, along with a significant portion of Tokyo-3. The explosion is so massive that it is suggested to draw a new map of the city level.

Armisael Oath means Mountain of God. It gets its name from the Angel of the Matrix (子宮の天使, Shikyū no Tenshi .)

In the manga, Nagisa Kaworu, Asuka no, he drove the unit 02. The weapon used was a double-edged chainsaw. Armisael partially merged with Unit 02 while he was doing with the unit 00 and Rei, and Kaworu both experienced the emotions of Rei. He considered using his powers against Armisael Angel, but chose not to do to keep their nature hidden.

The fifteenth Angel, Arael, is a large winged creature, shining. In addition to its AT field, his main weapon is a ray of yellow light that enters the mind of the target, attacking it (mentioned that the beam has properties somewhat similar to an AT field.) Its outer core is supported by two appendices that are in the bottom.

Arael appears in a low orbit, but beyond the scope of the normal weapons of Evangelion. Ignoring orders to serve as reinforcement to Rei, Asuka faced the Angel alone in Evangelion Unit 02. When the angel said, that she wore on her beam. Psychic attack Asuka forced to relive the horrors of his childhood and undo the emotional facade showing to others, causing trauma deep enough to lose synchronization with your unit completely, leaving it idle.

After confirming that a particle beam had no effect against Arael AT field, Rei Gendo ordered, the unit 00, removing the Spear of Longinus Lilith's body and use it against the Angel. This was released by Rei, and crossed the Angel's AT field, destroying its core. Then drifted, finally falling on the moon, and being away from NERV.

Arael means Light of God or Vision of God reference, or your body of light or to form mental attack. It gets its name from the Angel of the Birds (鳥の天使, Tori no Tenshi .)

It is never explained how the unit 00 was able to develop enough force to launch an object such as the Spear of Longinus at a speed greater than escape. However, in The End of Evangelion the spear back into the hands of the unit 01 on its own, indicating a degree of self-propulsion.
In the anime, Angel psychic lightning is accompanied by the oratorio "Hallelujah" from Handel's Messiah.
Version "Director's Cut" episode 22, which appears Arael includes several sequences with new animation, as scenes in the nightmare of Asuka (in which there are strong references to their hidden feelings for Shinji) and a shot of the section the tip of the spear is melted in a manner similar to a spiral, just before entering the Angel.
In the anime, Asuka apparently does not suffer any physical sequel of lightning, but in the manga is reduced to a vegetative state because of the mental shock.
