Here's how it goes: first it becomes popular, then it becomes unpopular, then it becomes kitsch, then, sometime after that, it becomes popular again. Hence goes the pop culture cycle. Chances are by the time you grow up, all those toys that you abandoned when you became "too grown up" to play with, become important to you again. They become reminders of your youth and you begin to yearn for them. Of course, you're not the only ones. Big business knows this. Because of this you should ready to pay a premium for your beloved Playmobil toys or My Little Pony's because you're not the only one looking for them.

I recently went to the Downtown Disney District in Anaheim, CA to meet some friends for dinner. As I was walking I noticed that there was a rather large Lego Chain store which sold nothing but Lego sets and products. I didn't have to think twice, I made a bee-line for the store. Now, I know Lego's are thought of as a little boy thing, but I'll make no qualms about the fact that when I was a kid I loved Lego's. Sure, I enjoyed Barbie's, My Little Pony's, etc., but for me there was nothing more fun then putting together a Lego airport, police building or pirate ship. As I walked into the store and began to look around, two things immediately popped into my head. First: if you can dream it, there is a Lego set for it now. Forget airports, you can literally build the Taj Mahal now out of Lego's. Second, and most relevant, Lego's have gotten expensive. I'm sure you can still get a small set at Wal- Mart for something resembling a reasonable price, but wow, if you want to build an airplane or an building or a pirate ship prepare to open your wallet. A set can cost up to $70 now. Even the cheaper sets cost $30. Needless to say I passed on purchasing a set, even if I felt a child like need to.

It didn't hit me until I got home why these Lego sets cost so much. These sets were not for children, but instead, for adults who grew up on Lego's and again want to experience the thrill of constructing a building out of these tiny blocks. I recently help put together a small set a cousin brought over, and trust me; it's still as fun to do as I remember it.

If anything, this experience at the Lego shop reminded me of the "kitsch" cycle. Toy sellers now understand that parents are as willing to purchase something that reminds them of their youth as they are to purchase these new products for their children, same goes for Playmobil Toys too. Look at the Transformer franchise. Most of the people who saw the film hadn't played with a transformer for 15 years, but went in droves to the movie because of cherished childhood memories (the movies were terrible by the way, which makes the success of the second one even more "memories" based).

Next time you're at Target look around and look at how much of the DVD's or home supplies marketed to adults are simply repackaged and "hip looking" products from your childhood. I think you might be surprised at what you find. Chances are while you've "grown up" your tastes have pretty much stayed the same.

If you are a girl, you would probably be engrossed in playing with your Barbie dolls. As a boy, I am sure one of our favourite toys is actually the car toy. I guess the thing about toy cars is that they have got wheels. So the fascination is not just restricted to toy cars but also all other toys with wheels in them.

The most popular toy vehicles I bet would be those like Hot Wheels and Micro Machines. Boys would love to crash cars or even race them. Sometimes the play sets would include race tracks or make use of the pull of gravity such that the toy cars would move swiftly down from a height. Then there are those launchers which either work via a spring or be operated by battery or electricity. They can charge up your car and cause it to be powered and move at great speed!

Then there are some simple play sets which include the normal stuff that vehicles would encounter in daily life, like expressways, petrol kiosks, parking lots and what not's. Such are the inventions of the toy makers. Not to forget the many interesting train sets that are also included under the category of toys with wheels! There are so many different train models to choose from, and how you lay the tracks also counts! All this contribute to endless fun for the kids.

Talking about car toys, one must also not forget the physical cars that can be used to transport babies or young kids! What I am trying to say here are those mini cars or vehicles that are actually big enough for a child to sit in. Some of these actually come powered while others the child would have to use his or her leg powers! These toys are fun and sometimes the shopping centre even has trolleys that look like a car toy for the children to sit in as the parent pushes the trolley and goes about doing her supermarket grocery shopping! Oh then we also should not forget toy vehicles that are remote controlled! Wonder who is the genius who invented this such that the toy car can actually move without our hands touching them and even better so when we can control them from a distance and tell the car where to go!

Such is the fascination of toy cars and if I were you I would get some cheap toy cars fast because they are just so fun! Of course the toy cars that I mentioned above are more applicable to be classified as cheap toys for kids. If you are looking for some cool toy cars that would be more applicable for adults, such as buying toy car models for collectors, that is another story altogether!

Fisher-Price Little People have been entertaining young children for over 50 years. These charming little playthings are some of the most well-recognized toys ever created. What started as a peg shaped set of a few characters has evolved into an empire of Little People characters and accessories. The older pieces and sets are now collector's items and the recent versions are more popular with children than ever.

The first Little People figures were introduced in 1959 with a Safety School bus that included six peg shaped children that could be removed, and a driver that remained inside, and who's head moved as the bus was pushed or pulled. From 1959 until 1990 Fisher-Price continued to make the peg shaped Little People characters with various improvements in design and materials. These are called the "Original Little People" by collectors. The first complete play set was the Play Family Barn, which began selling in 1968. The barn doors made a moo sound when opened and the farm and family figures could be stored inside. It was an instant hit and a wide range of play sets followed.

After 1990 the Little People line of toys went through a few transformations leading up to today's characters. In 1991 Chunky Little People, or Jumbo Little People as collectors call them, appeared in toy stores to address the need for safer children's toys. They were wider than the originals and had more facial details. Then in 1997 articulated Little People were introduced with moving arms and legs instead of the previous peg bodies. These had even more details such as molded hair, and extra vibrant colors. And in 2000 electronic sounds and lights were added to some sets.

The Fisher-Price Little People toys available today look very different from their ancestors. Some of the animals have fur to simulate real animal textures. There are musical and talking accessories, lights, and interlocking pieces. Many of the same original play sets are still entertaining the children of today, but with modern enhancements and character roles. For example the Play Family Farm and Play Family House are favorites with toddlers and pre-school children today much the same as they were generations ago. Now there are dozens of packaged Little People sets that coordinate together and encourage creativity and imaginative role play in young children.

Toddlers are notoriously hard to entertain on a long trip. They do not have the attention span for movies, cannot read, find it impossible to sit still, and, despite what the toy companies want you to believe, there is no fail safe travel toy that will entertain a toddler (or any child) for hours on end. So what is a parent to do? The key to entertaining toddlers on a long journey is distraction.

Instead of trying to find that perfect toy, pack a variety of simple toys that, combined with imagination, can be used in a variety of ways. Think quality - you want enough toys to be able to swap out often.

Before the trip, create a toddler activity kit containing a variety of age appropriate toys. Things like stacking cups, links, cars, puzzles and chunky crayons are all good choices. Finger puppets and small animals are fun for playing let's pretend and engaging your child for slightly longer periods of time. Think outside the box as you are selecting toys. When you are buying toys for your children, whether you are a teacher, doctor, parent, or grandparent, you will see that there is an age limit on most toy boxes. Toys are designed to be age appropriate and you will often find the limit on the box and it will say, for example, age's three to five or from ages 11 to 13. You shouldn't buy toys that are too advanced or complicated for your children to play with. On the other hand, buying toys that are designed for children younger than your own may find the toy boring and will be discarded into the bottom of the toy box within hours or days.

What should you do when your children have outgrown their old preschool toys? There are many options besides throwing them out. This is a great way to get your children involved in cleaning out their old toys from the toy box and teaching them about sharing, donating, or recycling. There are many places that would be happy for you to donate your toys that your children are too old to play with. Keep in mind however, only donate toys that are not damaged or too worn out to play with. Star Wars not only revolutionised the movie and special effects industry but also the movie toy industry. When George Lucas made the first Star Wars movie he managed to secure himself the rights to any toy merchandise which up to that point was not seen as a lucrative business.

Star Wars changed all of that. They changed the size of action figures to the 3.85 inch size that we have today. This was done so that vehicles like spaceships could be sold that could fit the figures inside. It makes sense as the first thing a kid will want to do with a spaceship other than flying it around is pop some action figures in it.

When the first film was a huge success back in 1997 the demand for toys based on the film was massive and came as a surprise to toy makers Hasbro. There was just one problem. The toys weren't ready for the big Christmas season. So what did they do? They sold empty boxes. That might sound like a cruel thing to do especially at Christmas but it was all part of a clever plan. The toy pack was called the Early Bird Certificate Package. It came with a cardboard display of Star Wars characters, some stickers, a Star Wars club card and a certificate. The certificate was to be filled in by kids and mailed off. Once the figures were ready four star wars figures would be shipped out. The Earlybird Certificate was a big success and was the start of a huge toy empire that has made George Lucas millions.

The movies lend themselves very well to producing toys. It has a wide array of spaceships, vehicles and characters. The iconic spaceships from sold well then and continue to do so now.

1.) The Millenium Falcon is the coolest spaceship in A New Hope and the 1977 toy is pretty cool too. It's not proportionally accurate to the spaceship from the films because the action figures needed to fit inside the cockpit. If the toy had been made to the correct proportions to match the cockpit with figures in it the toy would have been massive and far too expensive.

2.) The AT-AT from the Empire Strikes Back is a brilliant toy. It's size is correctly proportionate to action figures which sees it standing at about 2 feet in height. There has recently been a re-release of the toy but the original is good enough as it captures the look of the AT-AT just right.

3) Clone Wars Vulture Droid
In the Phantom Menace we were introduced to the Trade Federations' army of droids. The Vulture droids are ships that can transform so that they walk on their wings. The Vulture Bomber droids are featured in the Clone Wars TV series.

4) The FX Lightsabre is a toy that kids in the eighties would never have dreamed possible. It looks sounds and feels like a real lightsabre. It's labelled as a collectors' item but trust me, it's a toy. You can't pick one up without swinging it and hitting things with it to hear the humming noises.

5) Character helmets are fantastic fun and can be bought for Darth Vader, Stortroopers and Boba Fett amongst others. The Stormtrooper helmets don't fit very snugly and are akin to wearing a bucket with a visor installed but the Vader and Fett helmets sit a lot more snugly.

Bamboo toys are the best form of wooden toys because bamboo can grow up to a foot a day. In addition, there are no chemicals used to grow the wood, unlike the chemicals used for plastics.

Wooden toys are a wonderful choice. The natural materials in them is naturally appealing to children. They are more comforting and inviting than plastic toys, and they also offer a great deal more potential for fueling creativity. They are more environmentally safe, and will give you more bang for your buck because they will last longer and get played with far more. Pixar have another hit on their hands with their latest release for 2010, Toy Story 3. Kids will love the film and will also love to bring a small part of the adventures home with them. Luckily there are a variety of Toy Story 3 toys for kids of all ages from trusted toy companies like Mattel, Fisher Price, Lego and Thinkway. Kids love to explore their own stories and use their favourite characters in new and imaginative ways. We take a look at the Toy Story 3 toys on the market most likely to inspire your child's creativity.

Following on from the critically acclaimed and hugely successful first two films, the third Toy Story film brings the main cast of the films into a different environment. With Andy off to college, the toys are accidentally thrown away, ending up at Sunnyside Daycare center.
