I’m blown away! What a brilliant idea. Have your child’s artwork made into a real toy. Doodle Your Toys

Prices are decent, considering this would be an heirloom to keep for ages and passed down through the family. So tell me, would you do this?

My daughter draws things in a whimsical style and I would love to try it out. If I do, I will post a “part two” featuring her toy.

I just installed that cool little App that everyone uses so they can post funny text conversations and share with the world. And I was playing with it and then realized just how annoying I can be.

And then I noticed that my son is actually snubbing me. He is my oldest (age 27) and is living with us temporarily. He is being a text snob! Or maybe I am being annoying!! Or maybe both!!! But clearly I am doing the most “talking here”. Texts cannot lie!

He is a Geek ( by trade) which certainly has its advantages in this tech world we live in.

Kids don’t care if their party wasn’t inspired by Pinterest

Never believe doctors. Okay, maybe trust their advice and expertise, but remember they are just humans, with experience. Nature can prove them wrong.

Such as when I had my last baby at age 45. After three different doctors, over the course of a few years, told me how bad my internal baby accommodations were, I found myself pregnant with no medical assistance.

And this -Knock me out of a chair-Are you kidding me?!-Hysterical laughter surprise- just turned five years old.

She has been such a joy. And such a blessing. And totally meant to be.

I don’t do Pinterest style birthday parties. And you know what? Simple can be better. A few presents, a cake, and no high expectations are the best way to go. In my opinion anyway.

Besides, kids just want the presents and the cake. They don’t care about any of the other stuff.

So, happy birthday my precious little one.

I love you more than I can possibly form into words.

Sharing The Internets and Why Couldn’t I have Thought of it FIRST?

In case you haven’t noticed, the Internet is a huge thing. On the rare moments when I can sit and follow bread crumbs from blog to blog to blog, I stumble upon things that are pretty much truly awesome and I think, “DAAAAANG that is SO cool!” And sometimes I think, “Why couldn’t I have thought of that first?

Like this – Sock Puppet Theatre.

I laughed and laughed AND laughed. Some of the language is bad, but then again these people did not write the script. Forums, Facebook, and any other method from online comments, did. The worst arguments between people in a comment stream are acted out and it is so hilarious. Check it out for a few laughs. ( Click photo to go to site)

And then there are those yummy things on Pinterest….

I’m telling you guys, I love bread. Really love it. Give me a hot yeast roll with melted butter and I’m in heaven. Then you can give me a cold baked potato salad and I’m in heaven again. Hair: and why my husband hurt my feelings.

So I cut my hair. And then I highlighted it. And now I look like someone other than myself. I’ve pretty much always had dark hair and I’ve always worn it long. I’ve been thinking about this lately and asked myself some personal questions.

I said, “Self? Why do you have long hair?” And then I replied to Self, “Because my husband likes it long.” And then Self rolled her eyes and said, “How long have you been married, exactly?” “Over 10 years”, I replied.

Then Self said, ” OH. MY. GOSH! I thought I raised you to be more confident and live for yourself once in a while!!” And I hung my head and mumbled, “yes, yes you did…I’m so…so…sorry.”

Then Self handed me the scissors and hissed out, “DO it Debbie!” DO IT NOW!”.

Then I said, “OKAY! I WILL!! I WILL Dadblastit!!”

Chomp.

Then it was too late to change my mind because 4 inches was now missing from the center of my neck line.

And so I kept cutting.

Which brings me to why my husband hurt my feelings.

The first thing he said when walking in the door was not “Hey Honey”. OH no he dit in!!

He said, “WHAT on EARTH have you DONE to your hair?”

So now I am semi mad at him. Semi because I am giving him points for not being able to help it for loving long hair on women. It’s innate for him.

But still.

Hasn’t he learned anything over the last 10 years of marriage? I mean come on – guys! You always tell your female companion that her hair looks great!

I think I need revenge. Anna from My Life And Kids has a method she uses. I may have to try that.

My expressions on the photos above crack me up. I look scared like I’ve been arrested or something. These are totally what my mug shots would look like. I hope I never have to prove that to be true.

TALU: Tuesday Archive Link Up

Hi Everyone

First of all, I want to thank everyone of you for faithfully linking up at TALU for the last 45+ weeks. I have had fun with this link up and met all you awesome people, so I consider it a success.

Secondly, this will be the last day for TALU. I have decided to take it down because of some obligations I have over the summer. I want to be able to blog when I feel like it, not blog because I am required to.

I’m a rebel like that. Sort of.

On a side note – if anyone has been thinking of starting their own blog hop and wants to take on this link up party and own it, let me know. TALU is already branded and people know about it, so it you would have a head start in the popularity blog hop cool kids club.

Not really. But you definitely would have a head start over stating one from scratch.

Saying Goodbye To My Dog

Today, Friday, June 7th, my dog passed away. I say my dog, because he was.The time when I turned into a single mom he was my companion when I was home alone. I chose to buy him at the loneliest time in my life. By myself, I picked him out of a litter. By myself I went to get him and brought him home. Max filled my heart with happiness and filled the silence at home on the days when I was alone.

I hope dogs can tell we love them. We don’t know how their minds work and what their thoughts are. If they could speak to us, would they tell us “I know you love me and I will always love you too.”

People don’t only fall in love with people. They can fall in love with dogs.

My mother told me today that part of being a responsible pet owner is knowing when to say goodbye. The hardest part is making the decision to end your pet’s suffering. To take on the pain of loss in order to end the pain of your pet. I did this today for Max. I did it because I love him.

I searched for poems to say what I couldn’t put into words in order to find closure. Most of them talked about dogs going to heaven and waiting for us there. Although that would be wonderful I don’t know that I believe that to be true. But then again, no one knows because we haven’t experienced that mystery yet. So I will hold a bit of hope that it could be.

So, this post is dedicated to my lovely chocolate lab, Max. I hope he knew just what he did for me by being in my life.

So I made a craft the other day-shut up-I KNOW

About a month ago I was browsing AC Moore with my mother for a few minutes before I had to go get the kids from school. Word – don’t do that. Not the craft store thing, but the craft store thing when you only have 30 minutes to browse. Because only having 30 minutes to browse means you will find 132 things you MUST make RIGHT now and then you will start to sweat and act like the those people in matching team T-shirts on the show Super Market Sweep (Is that even still on TV?) as you toss things in your basket and give stink eyes to the 5 people in the check out lane before you.

Whew, were was I?

But Oh My Gosh guys it was so fun getting creative. We bought the supplies to make a glass box display. The thing about a glass box display is- the options are endless. Anything you want to put inside, go for it.

Here are the step by step photos of how we did our glass box displays.

If you want to have a print on the front, AC Moore has many different ones to choose from. Or you can make them yourself if you are a crafty diva (like my mom) who owns a die cutter. You just follow the easy instructions and transfer the vinyl onto the glass.

A string of lights (also at AC Moore in the Glass Box section) is what goes in next.

The lights were a bit tricky to get them spread out. They wanted to twist back together inside the box. We used drastic measures after we realized we had no long handle tweezers.

And just some advice. Cooking spoons do not work that great. Buy some long handle tweezers. Plus, when you use a cooking spoon I can’t promise that the band-aid bandit won’t make an appearance.

Never mind.

After the lights are in, we stuffed the box with moss, which can be found in packs back in the floral department. One bag per box was plenty.

Mom and I spent the most time on this part. Getting the moss positioned around the lights in order to cover them up but still allow light was not that easy. It takes a few minutes, so go into it with patience and nothing pressing to do. Nothing pressing like, oh I don’t know…having to go retrieve your offspring from the carpool lane.

There are so many options of what you may want to sprinkle inside. We wanted something Spring so opted for paper flowers from the scrapbook section of the store.

This was another step where long handle tweezers would come in handy.

When everything is like you want it, thread the cord through the end cap and plug the cap over the opening.

We copied a display model from the store and bought some burlap ribbon to wrap around the box. We thought it was pretty and wanted to do the same.

Using a glue gun, start at one side of the bottom opening and tack the ribbon down, gluing and securing the ribbon all the way around.

(The box is upside down) Notice how we started at the edge of one opening and ended at the edge of the opening on the other side? This allows you to open it back up and change things up a bit, if you want. Think Christmas!

Next comes the embellishing which is where you can really get creative. We used glue dots to secure our items of choice.

I love the bird and nest my mother decided to use.

I used a couple of silk flowers in bright colors. I need some color in my kitchen!

Once finished, plug it in.

I love the coziness I feel, especially at night, when my glass flower box lights up my kitchen counter.

It looks pretty regardless if you plug it in or not. It’s nice to have options. Options are nice.
