Intel® Compute Stick- Turn your TV into a Computer

2015-09-04T22:59:00.001-07:00

This PC-on-a-stick will turn your TV into a computer

Connect. Compute. It’s that simple.

Transform any HDMI monitor or TV into a computer with the Intel® Compute Stick complete with a quad-core Intel® Atom™ processor, Intel® HD Graphics, integrated WiFi and Bluetooth® technologies, 32 GB storage, 2 GB memory, a USB 2.0 port, and a Micro SD card reader. Intel Inside®―endless possibilities outside.

The Intel® Compute Stick. Small, Yet Surprisingly Powerful.

While the Intel® Compute Stick can fit in the palm of your hand, it's what we fit inside of it that is truly remarkable. A quad-core Intel® Atom™ processor and your choice of operating systems: Windows* 8.1 with Bing* (with a free upgrade to Windows® 10 after release) or Ubuntu* 14.04 LTS.

The Windows version includes 2 GB memory, 32 GB of on-board storage and comes with McAfee® Antivirus Plus for comprehensive protection from Trojans, viruses, spyware and more. The Ubuntu version has 1 GB memory and 8 GB of on-board storage. Both devices come with Wi-Fi* and Bluetooth* for connectivity, a USB port to connect peripherals and a micro SD card slot for additional storage.

Basically, you actually have a PC you can carry in your pocket and connect to any screen with an HDMI port. What It Can Do The Intel Compute Stick is obviously not as powerful as a regular PC, but it’s still good for a few things: 1. Playing 1080p videos is fine, just don’t have too many other processes running. 2. You can use Microsoft Office without any issue. That’s a big plus! 3. For web browsing, the Compute Stick is actually better than any smart TV, since you get proper Chrome or Firefox with their many extensions. 4. You can install any Windows software, of course, so it’s like using a PC. 5. It can work off a power bank. What It Can’t Do There were bound to be a few compromises with the small size: 1. The Wi-Fi strength is weaker than most PCs, which is natural considering the size. 2. Multi-tasking is a pain. Opening 20 tabs in Chrome, or switching between Office, Chrome and iTunes will invariably lead to the PC hanging or one of the programs crashing. 3. Don’t even think about gaming. Seriously. None of the modern PC games run smoothly. 4. It can’t mirror your smartphone, like Chromecast can. 5. Don’t use Wi-Fi and Bluetooth at the same time. It ends up malfunctioning often. It Stinks as a Pocket PC The Intel Compute Stick seems like a great idea for a PC you can carry around with you, but well, it doesn’t make much sense in actual usage. For starters, you’ll need either a power cable and socket or a power bank. You’ll also need a TV with an HDMI input. And then you’ll need a wireless keyboard and mouse. The Compute Stick doesn’t make much sense as a portable computer in an age when you can buy an 8-inch Windows tablet for roughly the same price. After all, you get a screen there, a built-in battery, and no need for a keyboard and mouse.

Concept Phone Designs and News Nokia E-Cu Phone Converts Heat Into Battery Energy

2012-12-11T02:17:00.000-08:00

Eco factor: Eco-friendly cell phone concept can be charged by the heat of surrounding objects.

London designer Patrick Hyland has a sizzling hot concept to heat up the cell phone market this season. Christened the “Nokia E-Cu,” this mobile phone concept is something you would have never seen or heard before. This ingenious cell phone doesn’t require to be plugged into a socket to charge, instead it can be charged by the heat in your pocket. The Eco-friendly Nokia E-Cu sports an interestingly build copper case that features engraved heat-sinks in the shape of dried earth. and this is New Concept Technologies

The phone has a thermogenerator integrated inside, which converts heat from any source into electrical energy to charge the phone. So, now forget those environment unfriendly phone chargers and let the hot objects around you do the job. This good-looking phone will eradicate the 51,000 tons of waste and greenhouse gases created by phone chargers yearly. Besides, I think it’s a great style maker.

The E-Cu name is a combo between Environment (E) and Copper (Cu) and we learn that this phone is surrounded by a copper layer with engraved heatsinks. You’ll never need a phone charger for this piece of gear, so you’ll be saving Mother Nature again. We have to say that this is quite a slim device, with a solid design and a strong idea behind it.

The phone can be charged by placing it on any source of heat e.g. a radiator, even inside a pocket.

SUNRED Solar Powered Scooter Concept

2012-09-02T22:43:00.001-07:00

Solar-powered cars and boats are all very well; they've got a lot of surface area to exploit with photovoltaic panels. When it comes to developing a solar-powered motorcycle, though, Spain's SunRED had to get a little more creative. Sliding panels on this soon-to-be-built prototype roll back to give the rider access to the seat, and form a complete cocoon around the bike when it's parked.

SunRED's prototype Solar Scooter will have a photovoltaic surface of around 3.1 square metres when the panels are fully deployed. When retracted, they'll continue to soak up sun and charge the bike, although at a reduced rate. See the photo gallery for a demonstration of how the panels retract.

Its dash will feature an LCD touch screen showing information on energy consumption, range and load as well as speed, odometer and trip meter readouts. The motor is mounted in the front wheel hub, eliminating the need for a transmission and the associated power losses to squeeze out a better range from the available power.

SunRED prototype could make a practical short-range commuter, with a range of 20km(13 miles) and a top speed around 50Km/h (30mph).

Clearly solar transport is still in a development stage, but as a totally free and environmentally neutral form of energy, we think it's worth encouraging.

Oxygenated Notebook

Oxygenated Notebook Or Plantbook

The Plantbook or the ‘oxygenated notebook’, a concept designed by Seunggi Baek and Hyerim Kim, is a laptop whose technology is largely inspired by the bamboo plant that derives its nutrients when soaked in water. The design of Plantbook is amazing and unique. It comprises of a cylindrical structure with two rollout screens (for the keyboard and monitor). The green color of the notebook is a representation of its ‘green’ capabilities. There is no need for you to charge the notebook as it uses hydrogen generated by electrolysis of water as its energy source.

The Plantbook is a notebook concept that takes a leaf out of the life of a bamboo plant. What I mean is that the battery charging system is inspired by the water-soaking abilities of the bamboo!

The designers clarify, “The system uses an external water tank, hence the Plantbook continuously absorbs water when soaking it in water and generates electrolysis using power stored in a solar heat plate installed on the top.

In this administer, it is operated using hydrogen as energy source and discharges oxygen. If you place it into a water bottle while you don’t use the mainframe, it automatically charges a battery and discharges oxygen.

The designers explain, “The system uses an external water tank, hence the Plantbook continuously absorbs water when soaking it in water and generates electrolysis using power stored in a solar heat plate installed on the top. In this process, it is operated using hydrogen as energy source and discharges oxygen. If you put it into a water bottle while you don’t use the laptop, it automatically charges a battery and discharges oxygen. A leaf-shaped strap hanging on the top is made with silicon. It plays a role of a hand ring and a green LED indicates when the battery is charged. Using this LED, users can check how much spare capacity the batter has.”

Compenion FOLDED UP Laptop

Compenion FOLDED UP Laptop

Compenion concept shows possible 2015 laptop evolution

A slide-up touchscreen panel reveals an OLED touchscreen keyboard which can obviously change layout depending on preference or language. It’s a multi-touch screen, responsive to both finger-presses and a dedicated pen called “senstylus”; if you need more traditional methods of interaction then you can slot it into any one of a number of docks, each designed for different tasks.

Challenged to design a portable computer for 2015 he’s obviously a fan of tablet PCs and OLED.

It’s an interesting idea, and undoubtedly a beautiful design, but I’m not sure about the landscape orientation. Anyone who has actually used a slate tablet PC for any length of time knows that most of the time it’s held as a clipboard, and Felix hasn’t done any renders to show how that broad wrist-rest might impact on portrait use.

So, for the office you might have a pretty mundane dock with a normal keyboard and printer, while in the lounge at home there’s a dock with a built-in projector for enjoying big-screen films.

Apple-Keysless Keyboard

2011-11-24T19:59:00.000-08:00

Apple recently patented their take on the glass piezoelectric keyboard concept such as the Kong Fanwen “No-Key” design announced months earlier.

Where this will go remains to be seen, but rather than a clear sheet of glass, Apple’s patent indicates an LED backlit device with LCD “screens” under a stamped or formed hard touch-sensitive surface. Keys will be positioned and marked as they are on a conventional keyboard allowing for touch typing, but a haptic feedback method like the vibration-on-click method that many cellular devices currently use will indicate key presses rather than any direct key motion.

Cyber E Sport Orbita Mouse

2011-11-24T02:45:00.000-08:00

Looking for an extremely cool mouse? Your search ends here. Cyber E Sport's Orbita is designed for people who are looking for "something different". I bet, once it graces your desk you'll have many people ogling at your latest purchase. The Orbita is the world’s first wireless 3-axis mouse, integrated with intuitive control centre that redefines conventional mouse limitations. A built-in compass calibrates movements in 3 dimensions. The most noticeable change to your conventional mouse is the replacement of the scroll wheel. The wireless cylindrical shape becomes the basis of this incredible enhancement. Now instead of a vertical (up and down) scrolling, you simply rotate the mouse left or right in a natural dialling action

The Orbita Mouse works with both Mac and PC platforms, and will communicate wirelessly over the 2.4GHz band. This three-axis mouse comes with an adjustable top and side shell buttons, allowing its scrolling body to be spun freely or adjusted slowly.

5-Pen Computer

2011-11-24T02:12:00.000-08:00

One pen with the CPU, one with projecting a virtual keyboard, one projecting the output, one with a camera, and one for communications. This with a base containing a battery charger and a mass storage device. Prototype will be around 30k$, or 24kE. Cool!

Realisation on the CPU pen and the Base is open at the moment, but the display, communication, keyboard and camera pen are either near completion, or almost near completion. As to the keyboard, projecting a virtual keyboard is already available on the market. The remaining two pens don't sound as the most difficult, so I think this will see the light of day relatively soon.
