Jets to the superbowl? -by Ross Cohen

The New York Jets, for the past two years, have been making huge runs in the playoffs, but they continue to fall short every year. The Jets have not won a championship since Super Bowl III, and the Jets know they have a lot of pressure to grant their fans what they have been waiting for: their first Super Bowl in 43 years. Despite the doubts and critics, Rex Ryan is guaranteeing that the Jets will win the Super Bowl this year. Rex has certainly made these claims before, but this year, the Jets have the team to fulfill their head coach’s predictions.
Mark Sanchez was drafted with the fifth overall pick in the 2009 draft, and he came into his rookie season with high expectations. However, Mark Sanchez not only disappointed every fan in the NFL, but also the extremely confident Jets fans who do not like to admit any faults with their team. Sanchez threw 20 interceptions his rookie season, and I personally recall being at a Jets game that year where a die-hard fan was cursing at Sanchez to stop throwing the ball. Sanchez somehow managed to lead his teams to the playoffs, mainly thank to the Jets unbelievable defense, and brought them to the AFC championship game. After that season, Sanchez seemed that he would only get better, and their defense looked just as unstoppable as they did last season, with Pro-Bowlers such as Revis, Scott, and Cromartie. They signed Super Bowl MVP Santonio Holmes that season, and the Jets seemed Super Bowl bound. The Jets went 11-5 that season and beat the Colts and Patriots in the first two rounds of the playoffs. The Jets were back in the AFC championship. Their opponent was the Pittsburgh Steelers, a team with a great offense and a brick-wall of a defense. However, the Jets fans were so confident in their team that they denounced the Steelers, believing that they didn’t even stand a chance against the Jets.
That belief was horribly wrong, to the despair of Jets fans such as myself.
The Jets got dominated. Plain and Simple. The Steelers had a 24-3 lead at halftime, and the Jets could not retake the lead despite a desperate comeback. Hopefully for the Jets and their fans, this game will give the team inspiration to finally make it back to the Super Bowl. Sanchez, who looked much better in his second season, throwing only 13 picks and 17 touchdowns, is expected to have his best season yet with his new receiving core. Over the offseason, the Jets added Plaxico Burress and Derrick Mason, two veterans who still have the athleticism to excel at their position. These two players should only help propel Sanchez to the greatness that is expected of him. Burress, who hasn’t played in the league for two years because he shot himself in the leg, will be a great redzone target for Sancez because he is incredibly tall and he has great hands. Look for Sanchez to prove all his critics wrong this season.
The Jets have the team to make the Super Bowl this season, and there is no reason why they shouldn’t win it.

What Expeted From the Texans This Season-By Matt Goldstein

There was a reason why the Texans were expected to make the playoffs last season. The year before, they achieved the finest accomplishment in franchise history: a winning season. Matt Schaub led the league in passing and was expected to become even better. The biggest problem for the Texans was their lack of a running game. The Texans ranked 30th in rushing in the league, primarily because Steve Slaton did not live up to his expectations. However, in the very first game of the season against the rival colts, the solution was found. Arian Foster was unstoppable, rushing for 231 yards and reaching the endzone 3 times.

The Texans seemed unstoppable.

They were ranked number 3 in ESPN's power rankings, and their offense was electric. In the end, however, just one small problem prevented the Texans from achieving greatness, their secondary. The Texans had the leagues worst secondary in 2010, and it caused them to finish disappointedly at 6-10.

Expect that to change this season.

The Texans signed Pro-Bowl corner Jonathan Joseph, and an excellent safety in Daneal Manning. With these two defensive veterans on the team, the Texans are expected not to only improve their secondary, but actually have a good one. The Texans front seven seems to be stacked. They are made up of three Pro-Bowlers in Demeco Ryans, Brian Cushing, and Mario Williams. With the addition of JJ Watt, the Texans first round draft choice, the front seven seems very scary. Watt is impressing everyone at training camp. Gary Kubiak has said that Watt has already won the respect of the team's veterans, and Defensive Coordinator Wade Phillips is quoted as saying, "JJ Watt is stepping up and being a starter right now."

The Jets got major signings this off-season, first they re-signed Santoino Holmes their number one wide receiver last season. The addition of Plaxico Burress and Derrick Mason to their receiving core will be great for the up-and-coming quarterback in Mark Sanchez because they are both veterans and they can help Sanchez get more comfortable at his position. However, despite the fact that these two veteran wide receivers are great players, the main problem facing Sanchez will be if he can gel with his new cast of wide outs Mark Sanchez has struggled in the red zone and Burress will unquestionably will help fix that problem because of his incredible height and hands. In addition to these off season pickups the Jets also selected Muhammad Wilkerson DT out of Temple with their first draft pick. , Wilkerson will definitely help the Jet's defensive line because of their offseason loss of Sean Ellis, who was an important part of Rex Ryan's defense.
