Charles Ritchie's godsons have had it out. One was left standing, holding the keys to the battered, creaky old family business. The business needs to be re-organizied immediately.

I took down allot of the mean things I said about Bob. Its not fair to say mean things about Bob right now even if you are an anonymous orphaned blogger. He is funny after all, and that does count.

I have allot less sympathy for Bob's geezer brigade (Sharon and Lloyd that means you) still whinging tonight about "democracy" and "one member one vote". Shut up you hypocrites. As of 2 years, 8 weeks, really up until 24 hours ago not one Rae supporter or Bob ever said a peep about "one member vote".

In fact up until mid Monday morning the Rae Campaign was quite pleased with the prospect of the ridiculously expensive deeply un-democratic Vancouver Leadership Convention in May. ie Ralph Goodale as "Interim Leader" for 6 months, warming the PM's chair for Bob.

Everyone knew that by May Iggy would have no money left, and Bob would have cash in hand. Lower mainland BC was Bob's best hope for winning.

Either Bob or Ignatieff was going to "win" this thing in some tortured ugly process.

Ignatieff's first job as Leader should be to torch a whole bunch of rules, people, and big swaths of Liberal culture, and begin again. He is definately going to need Bob's help, for sure. BR + MI Together forever.

I guess that is fair, Bob wanted a free and open vote, and now he's got one - with the least democratic most insular wing of the Liberal Party. Liberal Riding Presidents and Club Presidents jealously guard their positions as if (oh I don't know) an IRB Appointment or maybe a Senate seat hangs on it!

These are the true believers, the zealots who believe in only one thing: It is always time to bring Canada's Governing Party "back to government". And this group can sniff out losers faster than a beagle working for Canada Customs can find contraband sausage in Air Italia passenger luggage.

Bob (this week) wants "one member one vote" .

Last week he wanted the government handed to him. (Life is all about recalibrating one's expectations.)

61 years he has had to tell us the Liberal Party needed reforming, and not until now do we hear a word.

Is "one member, one vote" for real?

Or is Bob thinking we should do this "Liberal Style"?

Don’t Let Your Right to Vote be taken Away
All weekend, I’d been hearing rumors about this, but today I was really surprised to read press reports about various MPs moving for an immediate vote to elect our Leader next Wednesday, in the Commons caucus.
I thought I’d seen a lot of politics over 30 years of public service, but this one really came from left field.
The idea of taking away the vote from tens of thousands of grassroots activists in every part of Canada, and reducing the franchise to just 76 men and women seems so out-of-step with the modern world. It makes you shake your head. Here’s just a quick, off-the-cuff list of things that struck me as wrong about this idea:
The activist base of the party would be unable to vote. As an MP, I’m enormously and profoundly grateful to the volunteers who sustain my political career in my riding. I cannot imagine rewarding their tireless work by removing their say in the leadership.
Significant portions of the country that didn’t elect a Liberal MP would be unable to participate. What about the voice of rural Liberals, of almost all of Western Canada, of Quebeckers outside Montreal? All of these folks would be silenced.
What about the Senate? These great Liberals, distinguished Canadians from inside and outside of politics, would have their votes taken away after lifetimes of service.
What about the Party Constitution? The party is preparing a perfectly viable, constitutionally valid plan for holding a one-member-one-vote ballot electronically in mid-January. That’s just a few weeks away, and gives us time to prepare for the Conservative budget. It’s timely, legal, workable, low-cost, and constitutional.
It’s up to us to put a stop to this hasty, ill-considered idea for electing our leader. I am raising my voice publicly for your right to vote. Please help me by raising yours as well.

John Dudley Doright Manley, the most boring person in Canada (and thus THE WORLD) had it right on the money today. Waiting for the Vancouver "Convention" (utilizing rules, customs and traditions slightly less fair than the Mugawbe land resettlement laws) is a BAD idea.

The Liberals should have a good o'le fashioned "Caucus"vote. Yummy!

OMG!! Don't be so obvious Bob, dial it back sister.

We all know you are like sooo frustrated that the whole government is not being handed to you RIGHT NOW!!!

Pushing that Dion out of the way to speak first (after the duly elected Prime Minister completed his afternoon address to the nation) about the GG's decision, was like soooo pushy.

I sympathize I do. I am sure you nearly had a stroke watching Dion's Mayor of Mellanville, Guy Carvalero Production SCTV handy cam "Dion Video" last night.

Even Mansbridge was stressed out by how f******** up the Liberals were last night and he's on beta blockers.

But Bob really, the more you demand the government be ceded to a NDP Liberal Coalition cobbled together 8 weeks after an election when no one said a word about a "Coalition"....

the more you remind the country why this is just so wrong and anti-democratic.

1. Why has no one pointed out that the only woman, and the only person of colour involved in this fiasco is the GG?...just look at the "Progressive Coalition":Chretien, Broadbent, Dion, Duceppe, and Layton.

The architects and leaders of the "Coalition", look like they should all be sitting in a urologist's waiting room stressing about their enlarged prostrates, and middle of the night bathroom visits.
Could these guys be any older or whiter? So long democratic reform. Bonjour same old same old.

Stephen Harper in his second "learner's permit" minority mandate has given the breath of life to:

A. the WORST tendencies and inclinations of the Liberal Party;
B. Jack Layton's "grandiose personality disorder", and;
C. Duceppe's last, best and only hope of ever being relevant to the Quebecois people.

All Harper had to do was WAIT until MAY 09 for the stupid expensive deeply anti-democratic Liberal Convention.

If so much as one responsible journalist were to report truthfully and accurately on the FACTS about the Vancouver Liberal Convention "Rules" and Liberal Party Finances, to the Canadian People, that $1.75 per voter stipend would cancelled by the Canadian People faster than Air Canada cancels flights when it doesn't have a full plane for take off.

Don't be surprised if Deb Gray (god bless her) doesn't zip herself into her Winter Riding leathers, rev up the Honda Golden Wing, strap on her hairdresser husband to the side car, and make the trek east to beat some sense into Stevie ie remind him that his 5 minute"I'm the government speech" tonight didn't cut it and Canadians would like a genuine apology.

How could Harper have been soooo stupid?
